Elsa was half tempted to point out that just because everyone thought something didn't necessarily make it true. However, she could practically feel Roxana's joy over it, and so Elsa simply let it lay for now. Part of her did wonder if she really was so gloomy that everyone found it necessary to continually tell her to perk up. Shouldn't she feel a bit more perturbed about that set of circumstances?
Another question for later. Roxana apparently approved of Elsa's decision to work on herself, or at least had the tactful response prepared. "That sounds like something that was drilled into all the Strix family," Elsa said dryly. She recognized family sayings when she heard them. Elsa had been on the receiving end of a few attached to the Bellefonte name herself. Didn't make them any less pertinent, to be sure.
Ah, right, the actual creations. "I thought the deal was to try the Fried Twinkie?" she asked, looking over at Roxana and quirking a brow. "Or have you already decided to back out? I wouldn't blame you: everyone assures me that Twinkies will survive a nuclear apocalypse. I assume that's also part of the family training."

It was true that just because everyone thought something, didn't mean it was true but in this case Roxana was pretty sure it was. She still didn't get why Elsa was the way she was about this certain thing, but that was perhaps because she herself was not really one to show much...emotions or care for what others said. Unless what they said was a complement about something pertaining to herself, then she typically enjoyed it do to the foreign kind of praise. At Elsa's next comment Roxana did actually let out something like a short chuckle this time. It was not really something that was her families saying, but Rox could understand why Elsa would think that.
"No, that is just something my farther says. He is more of the...slightly softer one in the family, since he married into it." Roxana informed Elsa. That also meant that yes; he farther did take her mother’s names because it would not have been in any other way. The same would happen for Roxana and her sister; they would all bare the family last name until they died. "The main Strix saying is; Pure, wise, strong. Nothing less than the best. Oh, there is also the saying others have given us; the ill omen owls of death that dance and feed on human flesh and blood." Roxana informed Elsa of a few, actually letting out a small chuckle at the last one.
Elsa brought up about what she thought the deal was that they would try fried Twinkies; that was correct, it was not as if Roxana had forgotten but more so the funnel cake looked a bit more appetizing and less likely to kill her after the first two bites. However; Elsa asking it the way she did had Roxana feeling as if she did have to try the fried Twinkie. "We will get those then as originally planned. If it is something that would survive nuclear fallout, I will have to ask my grandfather if they could be added in something we should build a tolerance to." Roxana said, half joking.
She did have to try a lot of poisons when she was young, so if this was something that could survive something as deadly as a nuclear fallout, then perhaps it needed to be added into their 'Tolerance Diet'. At the very least, she was going to get to try it out now, and hopefully not become violent ill afterwards. “Perhaps you want to sit this one out, considering your parasite. Unless…what if such a creation kills it?” Roxana asked, smiling a little at that; another attempt at some humor.

Just something her father said. Elsa did know about fathers saying things along those lines all too well: her own father had a tendency to offer up "sage advice." It had definitely been more something her grandfather had been interested in doing, but, well, that was semantics, really. The bits that Roxana followed up with, however, had Elsa letting out another sharp laugh.
"You should consider suing George R.R. Martin," she joked, fairly certain that Roxana wouldn't get the joke. Elsa had only checked out the show after countless people compared her and the various other major families (e.g. the Banks, the Conners, the Coxes) to Game of Thrones families. It always did good to be at least somewhat aware of culture if people were going to compare you to it.
Which was part of where the joking about fried Twinkies came from. "Couldn't hurt," Elsa replied, lips twitching at the thought of Roxana's doubtlessly strict family enforcing a Twinkie eating policy. "I'm fairly certain that they contain no natural ingredients and have no nutritional value beyond sugar, so I'm not sure it should be a priority," Elsa stepped forward, almost ready to order as Roxana attempted another joke.
That actually made Elsa stop and look at her friend. "That's two jokes in only a few minutes, Roxana. Careful, someone might mistake you for someone with a sense of humor. More to the point," she paused to place their order, then nodded and turned back to her friend, "if it kills my dear little guest off, then I'll have to write a letter of congratulations to Hostess," Elsa paused as she heard crackling behind her, "and likely a suggestion to the FDA as well."

Elsa let out a sharp laugh at the little saying that Roxana had informed her that her family said or the outsiders said about their family. It was good that Elsa didn't seem to be thinking about the deep meaning behind the words and was keeping the conversation light. It seemed like they were getting on track with that whole 'acting like normal students' plan that they had been going for. The topic was easy enough to be what a normal teenager would talk about and overall it made Roxana feel like they were accomplishing something.
There was a comment about suing some guy, who Roxana was area of the name but not fully what he did besides being a book writer. She was not always sin with what was going on in the world that didn't involve war, secrete information, and death. Knowing things about a book or a popular TV show was not in the realm of what was considered important. "He writes that book series that has been turned into a TV show, correct?" Roxana asked. She felt slightly bad for not getting the reference but she was thinking on it now. Onto the Twinkies talk and how it could not hurt to give it a try and how Elsa was pretty sure there were no natural ingredients in it.
"I would likely be scolded for consuming this without any real purpose other than...I suppose you could say bonding with you or better yet just trying to keep in a role of a normal girl." Roxana responded. She was expected to keep her body at its best so this certainly was not the proper food to do that. Oh well, she wanted to try it and was going to be rebellious about this. She went for another joke, but instead of a laugh or chuckle Elsa was looking at her. Perhaps it was not a good joke, but Elsa spoke of how she had to be careful or people would think she had a sense of humor. Was that a bad thing?
Roxana was tempted to ask but Elsa spoke on about if it did kill her parasite that she would have to write a later thanking the creators of the Twinkies and then inform the FDA. If only she could get a Nobel Peace Prize for finding something delicious to eat and also instantly killed a parasite living and feeling off of your insides. "We shall see soon." Roxana said as she got her own and then handed another to Elsa. She hesitated a moment before taking the bite out of her treat, really taking in the flavors of it and just trying to process if she was going to die or not. It certainly tasted really, really good.

Elsa had to laugh again as Roxana more or less caught on to what she'd been referencing with her mention of the author's name. She nodded in response, though she didn't see any reason to linger longer on it. Especially as they had gotten close enough that money would be changing hands while they put through their order. Roxana offered up her explanation for taking the action and Elsa had to roll her eyes.
"Surely you're not 'on' all the time," she said, looking over at the other girl. "Even I'm not expected to perform like that, and I'm wearing one of the most famous names in mutant kind," Elsa offered another smug smile at that before turning to get their food. Naturally it had been wrapped in paper and handed off to them. Elsa had set things up so they'd recycle even the packaging they put around things, partially to save money, but primarily to make statements about sustainability and so forth.
"We shall indeed," she agreed before taking a bite of hers. Creme filling shot out and spilled onto her hand, meaning that Elsa had to pull that hand away and start licking at it to get the stuff away. "This tastes like skinny feels," she said jokingly, before taking another bite and letting more ooze out from around. That definitely seemed to be more of a problem for Elsa than Roxana; the Bellefonte couldn't even keep track of all the sugar that drizzled out of her treat.

Another laugh, Roxana felt like she had to have achieved some kind of record today with how many times she got Elsa to actually laugh or chuckle. A small thought in the back of her mind wondered how many times Felix had gotten Elsa to actually smile or laugh but it vanished as quickly as it appeared. It was thoughts like that they made her wonder if she was jealous at all; yet another feeling that she was not used to having and disliked it. There was the exchange of money and then receiving the fried good that could possibly be the last thing Roxana would be putting in her mouth.
The risk of it made it slightly more interesting but she could already hear the kind of cold report that would be written up if a Strix were to die because of a fried good. She would likely be disowned and removed from the family records if that were to ever happen. After all, a Strix even had ways they were expecting to die. Rox looked at Elsa when the other girl spoke of not being 'on' all the time. Speaking of how even she was not expected to perform in such a manner even with the name she carried within mutant history. "I'm always expected to be at my best. Even when I'm alone in my room 'wasting my time' on my art." Roxana said, putting emphasis on the wasting time part because that was how her family saw it.
Even if it was a waste of time in their eyes, they still expected her to be good at it. That was why she worked so hard at it and it just helped that she was also good at it. Granted, thinking on it she supposed when she was truly alone; typically out in the woods with Delta, she was not expected to be at her best because no one was around to care or see. These thoughts also made her started to miss Delta and a hint of sadness even showed on her face as she tried to threat. She was just pleased that it packed quite the interesting flavor that helped shift her thoughts.
"Skinny feels?" Rox asked as she licked her lips. It was a bit messy but she did her best to not get the cream all over the place by making sure to lick at it a little before taking another bite. It was still good all the same but it certainly was not something she could see anyone in her family consuming unless on some kind of dare or challenge.

Always? Elsa again let her eyebrows rise with that. She sometimes felt the same way, but even she knew that she was allowed to lower her guard in public, if nothing else. "There should be some way of your breaking free from them... if that's what you want," Elsa actually added the second far quicker than she would have. She'd offered Roxana help in the past, and she was fairly certain that if anyone could help Roxana shake free from her family, it was someone with a name as powerful as Elsa's. But perhaps this was actually what the blonde wanted: it certainly seemed that way any more.
Well, for now, they could focus on the delicious treat. Elsa was still dealing with the leaking white stuff, which seemed determined to leak all over her hands. She grabbed a napkin, working at dabbing the bits with some reluctance. A Bellefonte did not go about licking her body in public, but Elsa was sorely tempted.
"You know the old expression," she said while adjusting her hand, "that nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. These belie that," she said, before taking another bite. A hand went up to make sure that more creme didn't leak out, Elsa barely managing to contain it.
Post by Roxana Strix on Aug 13, 2015 18:48:30 GMT -6
A way to break free from them? Then Elsa added that bit about if that was what Roxana wanted. Was it what Rox wanted? Off of the top of her head her answer would be no, no she did not want to be free of them. What would she have if she did not have her organization and the life style her family expected of her? Nothing. Her art? That was no way to live, yes she enjoyed that she was able to do it and did sometimes wonder what it would be like to be a professional artist but at the end of the day she didn’t really want that. There was nothing there for her to do, no order to be followed, no people that needed to be silenced forever, and it certainly would mean the loss of her family.
“I would have no other purpose, no reason to exist without them.” Roxana responded as she looked at the fried creation in her hand. She would be more useless this then this food item that she had decided to consume and while it was delicious, it had no nutritional value and she doubted it would help improve something with her mind or body. Elsa seemed to be having difficulty with her treat, clearly not having given it a good look before taking a bite. Then again, Roxana to a cautious approach to most things so she should have expected that she would not have any difficulty with thee treat; while Elsa had pretty much gone right in and was now in need of a napkin.
Then there was talk about the old expression, an expression that Roxana didn’t actually know and she looked at Elsa to indicate that. “I'm not aware of the saying, apologies. I do assume that you mean the opposite of it feeling like something along the lines of you being skinny since I highly doubt a large consumption of this fried treat would lead to you being skinny.” Roxana responded. Simply put, she did not get the saying, but that was just a guess.

"I could argue that," Elsa pointed out, literally gesturing with the treat. "Starting with the very practical point of your being technically my bodyguard and security here and ending with the art that's your actual desire," Elsa had to raise her brows at that, taking another nibble. Sometimes she did wonder at that. Some of the hardest people here: herself, Roxana... they turned to something artistic. Surely there must be a world parallel to this one where they could just indulge their artistic sensibilities without any of the other drama.
It was probably a world where Roxana would recognize the expression too. Elsa gestured dismissively. "Don't worry too much about it: you're overthinking it. It just means that being skinny, the feeling, it's better than anything that you could possibly eat. So this," she held it up,"proves it false because it happens to be quite delicious," Elsa took another bite, this time backing her body up slightly to make sure that the spurting creme didn't hit her. "Though it does seem to be quite messy. I don't suppose you grabbed extra napkins or possibly even moist towelettes?" Elsa looked to her friend's hands, half hoping to see something like that just appear in a gesture like some sort of strange magic show.

Elsa said that she could argue that and then went on to talk about how Roxana was technically her body guard, had security here, and then art. Roxana glanced away for a moment as she thought about the things that Elsa pointed out. Were they even things that gave her an actual purpose? Sure Elsa had offered to pay her for her services so it would be almost like working for her organization. The major difference would be it would not be working for the people her family had been working for many generations. She would not be doing the sort of things that she typically specialized at while a member of her organization. Did she want that kind of life?
To actually be free from them, to not have to worry about trying to please every member that was a 'higher up', and to be able to do something she enjoyed without being told it was a waste of time and she could not make a life of it? Thinking about it all weighs heavily on her mind and it actually started to make her upset on some level. Anger, confusion, and even a small amount of self-piety that these thoughts were even remaining on her mind. Roxana was a Strix, there should have been no question, no doubt, and certainly no hesitation about what her purpose was. It was safe to say that this whole time she was remaining silent and just slowly eating at the fried creation. She let Elsa do the talking for now as she tried to settle her thoughts. There should have been no reason for all of this turmoil going on within her.
She didn't like it and she could not help but to blame her feelings for Ellen and the girl next to her for all of this. She felt it was because she developed feelings for them, it made her mind start to think it ways it should never even occurred. "I'm not certain I understand even with that explanation, but I'll take your word for it." Roxana responded, her words sounding a little distant. She did hear what the other girl said but it was more like background noise with how her mind was trying to work through everything. The talk about the treat was what she quickly latched onto, putting her focus on that so she could get her thoughts back under control. She was not supposed to be out of control, that was dangerous. Elsa asked for a napkin or a moist napkin, Rox had neither except the one that she had grabbed to wrap around the treat so she would not get as much on her hands.
So she simply reached out to try and wipe off the cream that had gotten on Elsa's face and hands, followed by her licking what she managed to get, not seeing the point in wasting something that did taste pretty good. It didn't even click what she had done as she moved away to get some extra napkins since she figured Elsa would probably get another mess and just in case she ended up slipping up with how she was eating hers.

Elsa could feel the thoughts bubbling nearby. It was akin to being next to a bookshelf when you were a bibliophobe. one lean, one look, and you'd see the titles, at the least. Just a little more and you could start skimming pages. But Elsa refrained from doing so, mostly out of respect for her friend, wanting to give Roxana space.
At some point, Elsa knew she would likely have to draw a line. She didn't like the divided loyalties, and she wasn't sure that Roxana could really be useful... no, she shouldn't think of her friend like that. Elsa had few enough actual friends as it was: she couldn't afford to alienate the ones she did have, not over something like power politics. It did occur to Elsa then that there was a third option: keep working for SIGURD, but with some degree of freedom. Was that even possible?
The thought bubbled even as Elsa offered up her explanation, which apparently Roxana didn't fully understand. The Bellefonte gave it a dismissive wave: it didn't really matter in the end. Elsa was more concerned about the napkin.
And to her surprise, Roxana opted to do something that Elsa hadn't experienced in years. She couldn't help but be amused as Roxana wiped the cream off her face herself. "You do understand what a toilette is, don't you?" she asked, some laughter in her voice. She gestured toward the trailer. "There's some in there. Why not go get some? "She raised her brows then. Not quite a reprimand, but given everything, especially given the intense discussion they'd been having, Elsa couldn't help but find the whole mess entirely too amusing.

It really was unfortunate that Elsa's had the power to read thoughts, but Roxana was pretty much used to it. She didn't like it but there was only so much she could do to keep the other girl out of her head but of late it did seem like Elsa was staying out. She wondered about that a little as well, questioning if Elsa was being nice or if it was that she didn't really want to know what was going on in Rox's head. Either way, Rox was trying to get the thoughts and emotions under control and thankfully they were only appearing slightly on the surface. Roxana did wonder when Elsa would be done with dealing with Roxana; a girl who could be trusted but at the same time should not be.
It was true that she was there for Elsa, cared for the girl, and would do things she should not if Elsa asked. Well, she was not certain if that remained true at the moment, but it had been true not too long ago. Still, if her organization gave her the order...would she go through with it like she normally did? Now she was wondering but yet again the 'food' had kept her mind a little more occupied. In hindsight she had not been really thinking about what she had just done to help clean Elsa up, but now that Elsa was pointing it out, it clicked. Thankfully, Elsa didn't take it in any odd ways, and was actually laughing because of it.
"I do. Apologies, I was distracted with my thoughts but was aware that you were asking for my assistance in getting rid of the cream and that seemed like the quickest way to go about it." Roxana responded as she was already moving towards the trailer to get said napkins. It didn't take her long to grab a couple and then hold them out for Elsa to take and use them as she pleased. "Sorry about that." Roxana apologized once more. Then she went about finishing off her friend Twinkies, using one of the napkins to clean any mess on herself.
Post by Elsa Bellefonte on Aug 18, 2015 19:08:36 GMT -6
Elsa quirked a brow as Roxana confessed to being distracted by thoughts. Elsa could've picked up on some of those, possibly offered advice. In fact: "Would you care for a second opinion?" She asked somewhat teasingly, her lips twitching slightly in a barely suppressed smile. She took the offered napkins when they appeared, using them to tend to her fingers.
"I should think so. Highly inappropriate to be licking someone in public. One would think you were a dog or something," Elsa said, albeit with some humor. she finished her task and then took another bite of her Twinkie, this time managing to control the excess filling with a hand. "How on Earth do people eat these things without creating a massive mess?" She wondered, letting out a soft huff and shaking her hand slightly.
She looked over at Roxana, slightly curious now: "Is this your first experience with food like this? Or did you maybe have to infiltrate a McDonalds at some point in your illustrious career?"
Post by Roxana Strix on Aug 18, 2015 20:45:09 GMT -6
Roxana looked at Elsa in a moment of silence, a small amount of confusion clear on her face after Elsa asked that question. Was she serious? Was she teasing? The other girl's facial expression seemed to be hinting at her just joking on the matter and there was almost a smile on the other girl's face. Roxana just ended up not saying anything as her face returned to its usual expressionless appearance as she looked off elsewhere. Had Elsa been serious, well Roxana doubted that the other girl would have been able to help with anything.
She had told Elsa her feelings already; they still remained, and were just one of the problems that were plaguing Roxana's mind. Not something she figured Elsa would want to talk about. Elsa was then pointing out how it was inappropriate to be licking someone’s in public and how someone’s could think that she was a dog or something. It would not be the first time she was viewed as a dog and it would not be the last in her line of work. She didn't say anything more on the matter and while she knew Elsa was sort of teasing about the matter, Roxana could not help but to feel a little odd.
Even a small blush appeared on her face for a small moment as she turned to give Elsa her back and check their surroundings for a moment. Then Elsa was back to talking about the Twinkie and how hard it was to eat them without making a mess. "If you open your mouth wide enough and only apply a certain amount of force, it helps avoid the cream making a mess anywhere but in your mouth." Roxana pointed out, seeing how that was what she did. Then the next question had Rox shaking her head no, since this was not her first time. "I have eaten things unhealthy and what you would probably considered odd to eat before. I have even had a Number three at McDonalds. It's just not something I do often." Roxana informed Elsa as she thought back to various jobs and times where she had to eat certain things.
Post by Elsa Bellefonte on Aug 19, 2015 20:47:11 GMT -6
Naturally Roxana had a proper way of eating the Twinkies. Elsa didn't know why she wasn't very surprised at this. She could only give her friend another long look while she offered up all that explanation, then simply took another bite in a completely normal way. Not that Elsa had all that much of the treat left: another bite of that size would probably finish it off.
She ate while she considered Roxana eating strange things, not to mention ordering a Number 3 at McDonalds, whatever that happened to be. "Me? I don't think I've ever been inside a McDonald's before," Elsa admitted, before mopping up the rest of her cream with a napkin. "What sort of circumstance was a highly trained operative in that required her to go to McDonald's?" Elsa looked up with a highly amused expression. "Was there someone there who needed murdering? Or did a target just have a craving for a McMuffin."
Elsa paused for a moment, then added: "Please tell me that you had to wear the uniform. I want that mental image burned into my imagination." She gestured toward her head, sighing with satisfaction.
