The Problem With Paint

Vicky doubted anyone expected things to get this messy. Of course when the word "fingerpaint" was involved, a little bit of a mess was expected. That's how things had started out at least. Vicky and a few others in the art club had gone in to make some paintings. They also went in to have fun, because admittedly it was hard not to in that case. It started out tame with actual canvases to paint on. But soon one of them had found out where the long sheets of paper were.

That had been the beginning of the end. They’d spread the paper out on the floor and made sure not to leave any gaps. The floor was already pretty splattered from previous projects, but they didn’t want to add to it. That had been their initial intention. However things escalated fairly quickly. They went from fingers to hands. Then hands to arms. Then arms to limbs. Then limbs to bodies. Vicky was extremely thankful she’d brought clothes she didn’t care about getting dirty. By the time they stopped, she was as colorful as a rainbow. The art room was a bigger mess than usual, and they knew they had to clean up before any teachers or staff came back.

Vikcy helped for the most part, but as her paint started to dry she realized she needed to wash off. So she took one of the sheets as a souvenir before heading off to get clean. The others had gone to the nearest spot, so Vicky avoided it to avoid the wait. Instead she hurried to the locker rooms, where she knew she had extra clothes waiting anyways. Unfortunately she realized her predicament once she got to the door. The paint was drying, but it was still wet enough to leave a mess. “Shoot.” She didn’t want to start leaving trails everywhere. So either she would have to uncomfortably wait for the paint to dry before she could enter, or hope someone came to help her. “Aaaagggghhhh.” She groaned, but couldn’t help but giggle from how crazy she probably looked at this point.

Xander Scott wiped the sweat off his face using the towel after a good game of football soccer. He still was adjusting to calling the sport 'soccer' but the Brit was more than impressed that his American teammates were not that bad as he had initially expected. He knew the sport was not as big as it was where he was from, but he was glad the guys could play.

After bidding farewell to his mates, the seventeen year old packed his stuff and headed towards the locker rooms to freshen up. There was nothing better than taking a nice, long and hot shower after a good game under the sun. When he reached there, he was met with a surprise at the entrance.

His steps slowed and he warily approached the girl. The laughing girl covered in multiple shades of color. The sight was certainly an odd one. He stopped a few steps behind her. "Uh...Rainbow girl are you alright?"

Fortunately enough, someone showed up. Vicky turned her head and offered the stranger a smile. It was painfully obvious from his expression that he was a little confused on her current state of color. Vicky didn't blame him one bit since she would probably be acting the same way. Although he was acting far more wary than Vicky likely would be. Then again she wasn't really one to shy away from others at all. Still, she was happy he'd come over. She giggled at his nickname too.

"Yep!" She replied cheerily, turning to face him. "I swear I'm not always like this." She promised, looking down at her paint splattered clothes. She really was a mess wasn't she? "It started out as finger painting and then quickly went downhill from there." She shrugged. "Soon I became the paintbrush. A little too much, I'll admit." She looked down again. Would she be able to get this much paint out? Hopefully she could. "Yeah, so after that we decided we should get cleaned up. The bathrooms near the art studio were already full since everyone else was going there. I decided to head over here since it wouldn't be as full. That and I've got my extra closes." She explained. "So here I am! And my name's Vicky, not rainbow girl by the way."

When the girl promised she was not always like this, Xander could only raise an eyebrow at that. Considering how cheery she was in the state she was in, he highly doubted it. He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the wall as he listened to her explanation. A small smile appeared across his features.

Xander did not remember the last time he did finger painting. Well for charity events sure, but never just for the sole of having fun and doing it for himself only. The thought that someone grown up like the ginger still got up to this kind thing, he found it cute actually.

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Vicky. The name's Xander. Well, I'd say it's a good thing that it's only paint...and not blood or something. Unlike Carrie..." his sentence just trailed off, realizing how strange the reply was. He gave himself a shake and plastered on another smile. "Sorry, that was weird."

He didn’t seem to believe her, but Vicky really didn’t blame him. It was hard to take the word of someone so covered in paint like she was. Still, he was listening so that was a good thing. Her story even seemed to amuse him by the way he smiled a bit. It probably had to do with the fact she was finger painting in the first place. It was a little childish, but Vicky adored it. If it was fun, why give it up?

“Nice to meet you too, Xander. Even if I look like a mess.” She giggled again before Xander went on. She blinked at his next remark. It had to have been a reference to something that Vicky wasn’t aware of. He was already apologizing for it with a plastered smile. While it was weird, Vicky could sometimes do the same thing when she talked sometimes. So she played it off instead. “Now I’m nervous that you might have serial killers or something as friends.” She returned, giggling. “Please spare me! I’m just a girl covered in paint.”

The boy chuckled and shrugged. Whilst Xander Scott did not go around meeting people drenched in paint, kids were not included, the boy could think of other odd ways and circumstances for a first meeting. And not all might go as pleasant as this one was playing out. He thought it was going fairly well, primarily because none of the paint on the ginger had somehow found its way onto him. Phew.

He actually did make a reference, to the Stephen King's book, but considering how weird that had played out, he decided not to point it out. "Well that would be or something. Lucky for you, my boss would probably flip if I associated myself with criminals. It'd ruin the whole public image thing," he said with a laugh though it might not have been that far off from the truth.

"Oh hey, did you need help or something?" All he had now was just a dirty towel he used, but Xander was sure he could be of assistance.
