Victoria (Vicky) Blackwood
FACE CLAIM: Sophie Turner
---------------------------------
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: 20
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Pansexual
POSITION: College Student♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Empathy
Vicky is able to detect the emotions of those nearby her. It’s more advanced than simply reading an expression or someone’s body language. Once around someone she can feel what they’re feeling and get glimpses of thought associated with it. With particularly strong emotions, she can read into exactly what has caused the feeling to surface.
LIMITATIONS:
If there’s no people, then there’s no power. The level she can read into someone’s emotion also depends on 1) how strongly the other person is feeling it and 2) how much Vicky focuses on trying to read it. Weak emotions are harder for her to get a read on, or emotions others forcefully try to bury. If Vicky spends a lot of time around this person, however, then it becomes easier for her to decipher the emotion even if it’s weak or suppressed.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
Feeling what everyone else is feeling can be kind of stressful. Surround Vicky with enough people and she’ll get overwhelmed with the various emotions. She experiences a number of side-effects from this such as:
-nausea
-emotional mimicry (Taking on and experiencing someone else’s emotion as her own. Usually only occurs for very strong emotions.)
-panicked state
-increased heart rate
-increased sweating
-headache
-sudden mood swings
An additional side-effect that can sometimes be beneficial is that Vicky’s emotions can leak into other people given enough time. The effect is very small and barely noticeable unless someone spends a great deal of time around Vicky (Give-or-take two hours or so.)♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: Roughly 5’7"
HAIR COLOR: A nice copper.
EYE COLOR: A lovely blue.
MISC: Vicky’s got a thing for beanies. Doesn’t matter what color or what style. One’s almost always on top of her head or nearby for her to put back on. It’s the perfect gift for her if anyone runs out of ideas.
PERSONALITY:
Mellow
This is the first thing that people notice about Vicky, and it’s kind of hard not to. She’s mellow. She’s chill. She’s like that awesome babysitter who let you stay up late and watch movies while eating ice cream. She is very accepting and very understanding. The downside to this is that most people consider her to be an airhead. Sometimes she’s even confused of taking nothing seriously or not caring at all.
Artistic
Vicky’s got a love for anything artsy. She can find beauty in the smallest of things and get consumed by them for way longer than she should be. It doesn’t take much to wow her and she’s one of the least jaded people you’d meet. Consequently, this means she can often space out and people don’t think she’s always paying attention.
Curious
Going hand-in-hand with her artistic trait, Vicky loves to explore. She’s open to new ways to do just about anything, and will at least try anything once so long as it doesn’t kill her for sure. The problem here lies in the situations she can occasionally get herself in. Curiosity didn’t kill the cat for nothing, and sometimes Vicky can poke her nose where it doesn’t belong or try something she really shouldn’t.
Empathetic
This should go without saying due to her power, but even without it Vicky is very open to other people’s problems. She’s got a lot of heart that she wears on her sleeves and it of tens bleeds for other people. She might not be able to relate to a person’s problems, but she’ll try her best to understand and sympathize. The issue with this is that Vicky can get too attached. Most of the time she can sleep off someone’s vent, but other times it can stick with her and bother her as well. She’s got a bit of a bleeding heart.

PARENTS: Judy and Xavier Blackwood
SIBLINGS: Older sister Claudia and younger sister Margaret
WORTHY MENTIONS: She has a pet rat affectionally called Sniffles.
CHILDHOOD:
Family
During my childhood I had a pretty good relationship with the rest of my family. Even though my dad looked like he could tear you in two, he was actually a big teddy bear. We’d get into mischief all the time. My mom was more strict, but still just as loving. She just showed it a different way. Margaret and I got along pretty well. She loved the snow so we’d go out and chill when it was winter season. Claudia was the only one where there was an issue. She really liked picking on me, and I can’t tell you how many times she’d put fake snakes in my bed. She’s the whole reason they freak me out so much.
School
I didn’t hate school, to tell you the truth. Learning was kind of fun. Homework wasn’t but the lessons were. That makes me a bit of an outlier, but I loved going and making new friends. That or hanging out with the ones I already had. Besides it wasn’t like the work was all that hard. We were, like, six or something.
Me
I was doing pretty good. I had friends at school. Other than Claudia, I got along with everyone for the most part. Who was going to pick on the girl trying to draw dogs and everything anyways? I was really artsy from the very beginning. I would often win the honor of having my pictures hung on the fridge. It was the highest award we could get other than getting ice cream for keeping our rooms clean. Truthfully I was more competitive for the ice cream than the fridge. Hey it’s ice cream! Could you blame me?
ADOLESCENCE:
Family
During the crazy teen years, my parents started to realize I was probably the least problematic child. Claudia was more rebellious than me, especially in high school. She still scared me so I couldn’t really say anything against her. Even the one time I found her sneaking out, she threatened to get a real snake and hide it in my closet. I was not taking that chance with her. The others were fine though, and we had a really strong bond. When I suddenly had to switch over to Acton Vale for my manifestation, the only one who really didn’t seem to care was of course Claudia. The rest of my family was freaked out and kind of pissed off, but eventually we all came to terms with it and accepted it.
School
While I was in normal “human” school things were going pretty well. I’m not the smartest kid in the world, and I’d be the first to admit that. But I managed to get by in all my classes and excel in a few others. Those were mainly art related in some way. the only one that wasn’t was calculus. For some reason I was ok at calculus. Anyways, I had to make the transition to Acton Vale when I was 15. Moving schools is never easy, but I tried making the best of it. The academics over there were definitely more advanced than my school. But at the same time things were pretty lax and I actually liked it better.
Me
I really have no complaints about my adolescence. I mean, it was a pretty good one in comparison to some people. The biggest turmoils other than my manifestation were all almost exclusively dealing with Claudia. To this day I couldn’t tell you what I did to her to make her so nasty to me. I mean I’ve heard of sibling rivalry, but when I was 9 she took one of those staple removers and clamped it onto my hand while hissing. Those things hurt! So I guess it was probably a good thing when the people from Vale came and took me away. It was Claudia who manifested it anyways. She came home the one day and seemed really angry. Usually I avoid her but somehow I knew it was because she’d gotten into a heap of trouble or something. I feel like she would’ve killed me if the people hadn’t come two days later.
ADULTHOOD:
Family
I kept up pretty good contact with my family while in Vale. Especially Margaret. She insisted on biking over once every week just to visit. It was really nice, and I never got home sick. My dad would always drop by every month to give me a big box of food. Mom didn’t realize the bottom was packed with candy until a while later. She would come visit too sometimes, usually on the weekend. The only one I never saw again was Claudia. Sadly, I think I was ok with that. Even when I announced I was going to the States for a year abroad, there was no sign of her. My family was pretty hesitant about it since I’d be farther away, but eventually they were fine with it.
School
Vale was still as awesome as it had been when I first got there. The added classes about powers were kind of weird at first, but I got used to it. Son everything became really normal and I genuinely enjoyed it. I even stayed to go to the university there. I wanted to go into an art major. I wasn’t too sure what precisely I wanted to be yet, but definitely something in the field. Eventually I saw the deal about visiting one of the other mutant schools for a year and decided to head down to the States and give it a shot.
Me
Getting used to my powers was probably the bumpiest part of my life at that point. Crowds could be the worst thing alive. I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere near a party until much later when my powers were under control. It was way too hard on me. But when control finally came, I could head out more and try stuff. Going to a concert was actually so much better because everyone was so ecstatic and happy. It was pretty amazing. I eventually decided to study abroad mainly for a sense of adventure. I loved meeting new people and trying stuff out, so I figured it would be fun. Why not give it a shot?♦ THE PLAYER ♦
SAMPLE:
If Vicky had known she should’ve been keeping her guard up, she wouldn’t have put her back to the door. But how in the world was she supposed to know? Claudia rarely ever went out of her way to torture Vicky. That normally happened at home. But this time Claudia must’ve been feeling particularly cruel. Vicky was even sitting with a few of her friends when there was suddenly a hissing noise and the sharp pain in her hand. As anyone would expect from anyone with ophidiophobia, Vicky screamed and fell out of her chair trying to get away. The glint of red on the metal of the staple remover drew Vicky’s attention back to her hand. Blood was already starting to come out of the little punctures on her palm. Tears welled up in her eyes and she stared at her grinning sister.
“Ow! Claudia! Why?!” Her voice was still shaky from the adrenaline rush. Her sister was grinning as she stood over Vicky. No one else moved to do anything. Vicky wasn’t the only one mildly terrified of her sibling. How had she even stolen the remover in the first place? Luckily an adult had heard the commotion and came over to check. There were a few questions while Vicky’s friends helped her up. She couldn’t take her eyes off her sister. The gleaming metal tool in her hand with drops of red in the teeth. The resemblance to her worst fear made her shiver and whimper, yet at that moment it was her sibling she feared the most. Constantly torturing. Constantly tormenting. What had she done to deserve this? Even now she was spinning some tale to deflect the blame. Oh Vicky had wanted to play with the little gadget, and you know how curious she is. She accidentally hurt her own hand while fiddling with it.
None of the others spoke. They knew better. Vicky knew best. If she said anything then Claudia would only make it that much worse for her back home. It had happened before, and Vicky was not going to have it happen again. So when the adults looked to her she smiled sheepishly. Played her role and wiped the tears from her eyes. “S-sorry.” It came out meek under the burning gaze of her sister. If Vicky didn’t know better she’d swear those eyes were red with evil. But she’d seen the eyes and what lurked within them both confused and scared her. It was why she could never hold the contact for too long. Why she all but ran out of the room when the adults shepherded her towards the nurse. Anything to get away from the demon back there.
