I hope she doesn't get lost. Why would she get lost? She lives in the dorms. Stop worrying. But what if she's late? How long will I have to sit here before we can start planning stuff? Will I just have to start without her? Okay, Tori, it's only been five minutes. Just stop thinking about it. When she shows up, she shows up. It's not like this thing is due tomorrow.... What if my breath stinks? Is my room clean enough? Oh god, stop, brain, stop!
Tori sat cross-legged on her bed doing what she did best- worrying. Why worry? It was a pointless thing to do. So she tried to concentrate on something else... like the group project itself.
Group projects were great because it allowed you to work as a team, and Tori loved working with other people. When the professor had declared they would be doing a joint portfolio, Tori had instantly been excited.. and a little nervous. Photography was her thing. She didn't like sharing it. It was her way of venting and escaping and finding the beauty in everything she snapped a picture of. It felt personal, and personal things were hard to share.
For the project, she had been chosen to be Roxana's partner. The two of them weren't close, they weren't even friends. All Tori knew about Roxana was her name and the fact that she was the quiet girl who rarely spoke up in photography class unless she had something very interesting to say. This project would give Tori the perfect opportunity to find out more about her classmate and hopefully spark a new friendship.
Movement in her blanket drew Tori out of her thoughts. She reached over and moved the blanket back, smirking as one of her rats was uncovered. Scatters. His nose twitched and sniffed in curiosity while he scurried over to Tori. She picked him up and plopped him in the middle of her legs before looking for her other rat. Skitters was a bit harder to find given the fact he was pure white on a very white bed. But Tori twisting and shifted until she found him sitting next to her pillow. She scooped him up and plopped him right beside the other rat, giving each of them their turn in pets.
"You're freedom is running short, fellas." Tori spoke as she normally did to her rats, in that baby voice everyone either understood or made fun of. "Enjoy it while it lasts."
