Evelyn didn't even know why she'd bothered to come. Yes, she knew Drew was going to show up, and yes, that had majorly been the reason she'd showed up. She'd sniffed out Erika, and of course, she'd come down here to make sure that everything run as smoothly as they possibly could. That, and she wanted to make sure the brunette didn't leave before her brother could show up. However, now that he had and the couple and rushed off to god knows where, Evelyn had little reason to stay behind.
It wasn't as if she had a whole lot of friends (thank heavens for that) to see here. Well, save for one, of course, but she wasn't sure he counted as a 'friend'.
Stepping up to Alistair's side, Evelyn pursed her lips. "Now, now, Alistair," she said, her head shaking. "Don't look so disappointed. It seems as if my brother finally got the happy ending he was looking for." She had no doubt that Alistair had seen Drew rush in to replace the guy Erika had been dancing with, only for the two of them to leave shortly after.
It seemed as if the trip to Japan had done her brother well. Good, hopefully this would mean there would be no more late nights where her brother was riddled with doubts and insecurity. Both traits didn't suit him, and neither sat well with his sister. Was she surprised that he was here? Of course not. He worked for the school, after all, and he'd undoubtedly heard about Drew coming over. And in turn, he like herself, had decided to show up to see how it all went down.

Prom. The highlight of the Bellefonte social calendar had finally come around, and while Alistair had been called up to attend as a member of the security staff in order to maintain the light hearted atmosphere and to ensure the safety of the students, the bodyguard had every intention of turning up regardless. He'd gotten word of Drew's arrival back in Montana, and while he'd been unsure if the young man would make it, in a scene similar to some romantic film, he'd turned up and had in that single moment that he'd taken Miss.Bellefonte's hand and led her away surely taken the young woman's heart forever in that one instance. Did he have a positive opinion of Erika Bellefonte? ...Not quite. But what she had displayed in his observations was what he could see as being genuine affection and love for his charge; Drew... While Alistair had known the doubt and confusion the young man had been engulfed by in recent weeks, it was clear from his actions minutes pior that he'd come through the uncertainty... He'd seemed, in his brief time within the decked out gym, far healthier then when he'd left. Here was hoping that young woman knew how precious the heart she held firmly in her grasp was; As long as she did, Alistair would continue to include her under his protection umbrella.
Glad in one of his usual suits, black, formal and elegantly cut to his form, the bodyguard watched from the sidelines of the large gym space as various groups of students huddled to discuss the sudden reappearance of Drew, and how he'd plucked Erika Bellefonte from prom and stole her off somewhere undoubtably quieter. He became aware of a figure stepping close to his side, smirking a little as a familier voice spoke up. "... Is it that obvious?" He spoke in return, glancing to the stunning young woman at his side. He paused, his thoughts struck empty bar those that she was simply the most beautiful form... Evelyn Conner, was, and always would be in his eyes, the very essence of elegant beauty. He quickly shifted his eyeline away, frowning a little at the ache that entered his chest, hoping she'd read it as him being slightly disappointed with how things went with Drew and Miss.Bellefonte. "... He looked healthier," He spoke, smiling a little as he folded his arms. "... At the very least, we have that. He's certain what he wants now... I just hope the kid knows exactly what she's got." He then shifted his gaze back to her, slipping his hands into his trouser pockets. "I thought prom wasn't your thing, Evelyn. Did you only come for the show?"

Meeting his gaze, Evelyn didn't respond. At least not with words. Instead, she offered him something of a smirk; yes, yes, it was quite obvious that the man held the same tentative thoughts about the Bellefonte girl as she herself did. No matter, as long as her brother was happy and wanted this, Evelyn was not going to interfere. Instead, she was going to watch carefully from the sidelines and help her brother the only way she knew how to - and the same way she'd been helping him up until now.
"He did," she agreed, her smirk softening slightly as she nodded. "And as much as it pains me to admit, I'm sure that she does," she sighed. It had become very obvious that things had changed and that the brunette whom had captured her brother's heart a second time knew exactly what was at stake if she made yet another foolish move. The change in their relationship was obvious even to Evelyn. And admittedly annoying too. She supposed that was what happened when two people fell madly in love. It was sickeningly sweet, to be honest. "I heard the news of my brother returning, and I knew where he was headed. Call me sentimental, but I wanted to make sure Miss. Bellefonte did not leave before he could reach her."
"I'd compliment your choice of attire, but then again, you always wear suits," she added with another smirk. "Watch out, you might catch the eye of some young girl looking to "get it on" with an older guy." There was already plenty of young females tossing the bodyguard various curious glances and most of them were also incredibly flattering. It was amusing, if nothing else. "Suddenly you'll find yourself dragged out on the dance floor by some energetic little imp." Like Frank Cox, for example.

The bodyguard caught the young Conner's smirk, her expression catching onto his own lips. He knew she too shared his fairly nonpositive opinon on the Bellefonte, even with recent developments. That being said, as always, he also knew Evelyn shared his desire to still do all he could to aid Drew in his relationship, and in every other aspect of his life. Erika Bellefonte... Did seem to have matured greatly in the past few months, but she still had a long way to go; Maybe she'd be the making of him, or more accurately, that he'd be the making of her... Or perhaps it would all go up in flames. Either way, Evelyn and Alistair would remain firmly by his side. Evelyn noted, as Alistair had seen, that the young Bellefonte indeed knew now how precious the heart she held was. She knew what was at stake, knew that a third chance at being with Drew was highly likely not on the cards should she make another foolish error.
The bodyguard smiled at Evelyn's admittance that she'd attended for her brother's sake. As always, he was her priority, even when it was something she didn't fully agree with. "I never took you for a romantic," He chuckled a little teasingly, raising an eyebrow in her direction. He then smirked, taking a moment to adjust his tie and make sure it was still as perfectly placed as it had been when he's put it on a few hours previously. "A suit makes a man," He commented, a flicker of pride in his tone. Alistair always prided himself on his attire, and this time was no different. His smirk however faded as he smoothed out the front of his suit jacket at his next words, before he chuckled. "Miss.Conner, I resent that. Old? I ain't exactly ancient. I'm not much older then you." He however did take a moment to glance round a the various groups of females nearby, a few he noted had been giving him stolen glances when they presumably thought he wasn't looking. The last thing he needed was to be dragged off to dance by some smitten little imp, as Evelyn put it... It would be horribly awkward.
Alistair then caught the eyeline of a few other students, smirking as he then lent in closer to the female, speaking in a lower, more whispered tone. "You're not the only one," He spoke, before nodding his head towards a male student not too far from them, who had been gazing at the stunning young woman, immediately looked freaked and looked away. "Although they all seem to be too unnerved to ask you for a dance. Maybe you're too intimidatin'?"

A romantic, her? Hardly. "It surely does," she agreed with a nod. Though, her statement came from the simple fact that she'd grown up around men wearing formal clothing, such as her brother and her father, whom both just like Alistair seemed to prefer a good suit over anything else. Of course, that also meant that it was a normalcy for the young woman. "Older," she repeated, her eyebrow arching in an amused manner. Alistair wasn't old, sure, but he was still older than her, and many of the students roaming around. That was a simple fact, after all.
With a dry, icy expression, Evelyn followed Alistair's gaze towards the currently terrified looking young boy he mentioned. Her eyebrow arched, and it was obvious Evelyn honestly couldn't have a cared more about who or why this guy was staring at her. "Good," she replied simply. She had little to no interest in these kinds of things, and least of all boys that didn't even dare approach her. That spoke volumes of their character, and needless to say, it only proved that they clearly weren't worth her time. "Let's hope it stays that way."
It wasn't a topic the brunette cared to linger on, however. Her interest in the students were close to minimal at this rate. Always had been. Unlike many of her peers, Evelyn had never been the kind of girl who experienced an influx of hormones and crushes. She had always been the reserved, more serious counterpart to her overly charming and social brother.

Alistair took her agreement as a compliment, although he knew the men she surrounded herself with, the ones she respected, all clad themselves in fine suits. Alistair was honoured to know he was among those privileged few. Scanning his eyes over the area, noting the amount of students nervously waiting for the right moment to ask the source of their affections for dance; "... I must admit though, you own choice of attire for this evenin' is stunning," He spoke, to return the compliment, although doing so brought an increasingly familier feeling to rough proximity of his chest, which he obviously ignored. He then raised a brow at his companion, smiling at her emphasis on the word she'd used. "Duely noted. I ain't past my prime yet," He joked in response, tapping the side of his head with his forefinger.
Alistair was throughly amused by the poor enamoured boy's reaction to being stared out by the icy gaze of Evelyn Conner, raising a hand and smiling a little at the boy as he risked another glance, looking perhaps more fearful then he had previously as he snapped his gaze away, retreating into the huddle of his friends. He wasn't the only one giving the female glances however, and the bodyguard was becoming increasingly aware of them. He didn't blame them... Not only because of the elegance and glamorous beauty Evelyn radiated, but because this time of year always seemed to cause a surge of teenage emotions. Prom held a distinct aura about the entire event, that suggested romance, and as such the students and even some of the staff alike allowed themselves to get swept up in it. The gym was a positive sea of hormones. "... You know, we should give them somethin' to stare at," Alistair suddenly spoke up after a few moments of silence, shifting a sideways glance to the young woman. "What do you say? One dance?" He offered her his hand, a smirk adorned on his lips.

She was tempted to point out that she was a Conner, and Conners rarely ever dressed up badly. She had learned from her mother, after all, so it was merely a given that she had a good sense of taste. Instead, she offered the man standing next to her a polite smile in return. There was little else to be said about the compliment as it was offered. "Yet," she repeated, her eyebrow quirking again as she tossed him a playful smile. It was almost a little funny, thinking about the fact that there was a slight age difference between the two. If one didn't look at the fact that Evelyn was mature for her age, there was a six year difference between the two of them.
Thankfully, age was nothing but a number.
His sudden offer caught the brunette by surprise, and first, she simply stared at him with her stoic expression. Surely, he wasn't serious, was he? Rolling her eyes, Evelyn's head shook faintly. "Because that would look great to the rest of the school staff," she pointed out sarcastically. Thankfully, Evelyn played by no rules but her own, and after a moment, she accepted Alistair's hand. They were already here, and they'd might as well make the most of it. After all, this might even chase away all the tedious students gaping at them like zoo animals. "One," she said, nodding as she stepped forward. "And no stepping on my toes," she added with a smirk.
No harm, no foul, right? And at the very least, she got to dance with someone she actually enjoyed spending her time with.

Evelyn always dressed with upmost perfection, an aspect of her Alistair had always admired. He'd long had his love for formal attire and his Father had installed in him the importance of dressing well, but knowing the Conners so closely had reenforced this fact. Presentation was far more significant then most people seemed to realise. He took the female's polite smile with a nod, knowing she'd taken the compliment. Evelyn then proceeded to further tease him regarding his age, something which certainly didn't dampen the bodyguard's spirit; He had never viewed the small age gap between them as being of particular importance... It was funny to think on it now, that there was a six year age gap between them.
Alistair kept his smirk, still kept his hand out waiting for the female to take it despite the stoic expression she gave him. He raised a brow at her rolling her eyes, before his smirk grew at her mention of the other members of staff. He respected them to some degree, most of the people on the Academy's payroll actually took their positions seriously... But that did not mean that he cared much to their personal opinions of him. He looked out over the gym space, taking note of the other staff members milling around, most busying themselves with various duties. "Perhaps, but I never cared much what they think of me," He commented. "Where's the harm in one dance-" He then snapped his gaze back to her when he felt her take his hand, smiling as she took a step forward. "It's almost as though you don't have any faith in my dancin' abilities... But you have my word." With a quirked brow he then took the lead, leading the young woman out onto what had been transformed into the dance floor. He already noted a number of eyelines following their movements, keeping hold of the female's hand and placing his other on her waist.
As he did so, the warmth returned with renewed vigour, but he remained calm, not allowing it to seep into his cheeks. He tilted his head slightly at her, smiling, before stealing a glance over her shoulder, smirking. "... We already have quite a small audience," He observed, before looking back to his charge, his smirk fading slightly; This was another highly sociable event, and with eyes on them... And his hand on her waist... Undoubtably she must be feeling uncomfortable. "... If this gets too much," He spoke lowly, so that only she would catch his words. "I'll take you home."

Once he'd lead her onto the dance floor, one of Evelyn's hands moved to rest on his shoulder, while the other remained in his own hand. "People tend to be too nosy for their own good," she commented, shrugging her shoulders. She honestly cared very little for what the other people around might think. Surely, this was nothing more than two old friends dancing, and yes, even Evelyn understood how it all must have looked, due to Alistair being a member of the staff, but that hardly changed the stone cold facts; he was a good friend of her family, and if anything bad came out of this, they even had the proof to prove it.
His comment however had the brunette rolling her eyes. "Alistair, I'm hardly some fragile little thing that needs constant protecting. This is a dance, not a marriage proposal. I'll be fine," she scolded him. Yes, Evelyn was the kind of person that enjoyed her own personal space, but this was hardly cuddling or hugging. It was a dance. He had absolutely nothing to worry about. Besides, if she hadn't wanted to, she could easily have said no. "I'll be fine," she repeated.
The music started playing, and Evelyn's first instinct was to take the lead, though, she managed to stop herself just in time and instead, she followed the movements of Alistair as he started to move to the music.

Alistair could not have agreed more. The prattling of a few students and the stares they were getting would generate nothing more then the gossip for the evening; They had known each other for a long time, and this was a fact known by most of the staff and students alike. What was so wrong with two friends sharing a dance? Alistair doubted anyone would care once the night came to a close, especially regarding the various other insignificant drama between the students that would no doubt occur which would put this small dance into shadow. At the rolling of her eyes, Alistair smiled, and chuckled with a small shake of his head; He couldn't help his natural instinct to make sure she was comfortable, although granted he would have been able to tell without her even uttering a word to clarify it. He took her scolding with a polite nod; She knew if she so much as felt the smallest flicker of unease all she had to do was merely meet his eyes and the bodyguard would pull her from the hormone filled throng of social interaction that was prom.
The music began, and at once Alistair took the lead. He had been instructed on various skills he'd likely need while catering for the upper classes by his Mother, and these lessons had included dancing. It had never been one of his ideal activities, but then perhaps he had not danced with a partner that suited him previously. He moved well with the music, turning on point with the rhythm, their movement almost one long, sweeping flow. While he'd on occasion caught the gazes of those staring with amusement at first, steadily the bodyguard's gaze shifted, until he was focused on the deep, brown eyes of Evelyn Conner, on the delicate manner in which she effortlessly moved with his actions, on the gentle warmth of her hand. All of it held such significance, until the rest of the prom around him seemed to almost fade from his attention, until he bodyguard was unaware of there even being any other party of people around them.

The way in which Alistair looked at her was peculiar. It was unlike anything she'd ever noticed from him before, but the brunette supposed it was simply nothing more than getting caught up in the moment. Even Evelyn had to admit that she could see the attraction that came from dancing. She didn't agree with it, nor understand it, but she did see it. Dance lessons had been a huge part of her growing up - and she had to thank much of her grace for it too.
Learning how to dance surely made sure that moving around gracefully became an easy and swift task. You suddenly learned to move about the world with much more tact and grace than before. Not that someone as quiet and reserved as the young brunette needed to move more silently around than what she did already, but it was an amusing observation nonetheless.
The song eventually ended and Evelyn's hand dropped from Alistair's shoulder. She smirked slightly, without pulling her gaze away. "There, one dance," she said, nodding. After all, one dance was all the two had agreed upon, and besides, it wasn't like either of them had the time to waste spending the entire evening out on the dance floor. That was hardly in either of their characteristics.

Alistair had fought to keep the growing warmth of embarrassment threatening to seep into his cheeks, his gaze locked on his gracefully elegant partner, her movements nothing short of stunning. The end of the music came almost abruptly to the bodyguard, who silently scolded himself for getting caught up in the moment; Evelyn pulled her hand from his shoulder, her lips stretched into a small smirk. Alistair mirrored it, removing his hand from her waist and letting go of her other hand. "One dance," He repeated, before his locked gaze with her own broke, and he took a moment to glance round at their spectators. They seemed to have caused a few small gatherings, most murmuring among themselves and staring, only to quickly look away upon meeting the bodyguard's gaze. "... I think our little display this evenin' has sadly had the opposite effect," He admitted lowly. "We appear to have gained even further admirers." He then snapped his gaze back to the female; She wasn't the type to want to spend any longer then she had to in such an event, and with Drew's seemingly happy ever after well and truly instigated... Well. Alistair simply couldn't leave his charge to suffer alone in this concoction of teenage desires and no doubt cheap alcohol.
"Unless you fancy takin' up one of your many suitors on another dance, or have other business, would you like me to bring my car round?" He offered with a raised brow and a small smile. "I don't know about you, but this ain't exactly my scene."

Following his gaze around the room, Evelyn snorted; to think that some people didn't have anything better to do than watch the two of them dance, as if it was something new. "One would imagine they all have better things to do with their time," she sighed. Then again, she supposed with the way she often carried herself, it wasn't particularly normal for her to be seen at such close distance to anyone. She didn't know if that had anything to do with the various people staring, and quite honestly, Evelyn cared very little to find out. They could stare and gossip as much as they wanted. It didn't matter.
"Yes please," she replied. Like the man, this wasn't Evelyn's kind of thing either, and she had only come here to make sure that everything ran smoothly for her brother. Now that it was all done and settled with, Evelyn saw no further need in continuing staying around. Offering Alistair a curt nod, Evelyn started moving towards the exit.
"Unless you have any obligations?" she tossed over her shoulder. She didn't know how long his school staff duties lasted - or if they'd already ended. It wasn't as if Evelyn couldn't get herself home safely without his help, if he had to stay behind.
Post by Alistair Holmes on May 18, 2015 20:27:41 GMT -6
Alistair found himself in perfect agreement with Evelyn Conner; He failed to see the importance of pointless gossip... But it seemed to occur at most schools; Low grade chatter about other people's lives passed between students, in some desperate attempt to appear interesting for a fleeting moment. Most of the younger ones were obsessed with that online blog, another outlet of pointless prattling that did nothing more then give the more immature of the student rosta something to discuss for the coming week. It certainly didn't matter.
Alistair smiled and nodded as Evelyn confirmed his suspicions, before watching as the female moved her way towards the exit; even her walk radiated elegance, this beautiful, almost ethereal form making her way across the dance floor. She looked over her shoulder towards him, the bodyguard catching her gaze; Since he'd helped set the place up, he'd merely been asked to observe the students and make sure they didn't get too rowdy... but there were plenty of staff there to take up his mantle for the evening now. Even if he had had other duties to perform however, he'd have left regardless with no more then a look from the young woman to beckon him. "Not in the slightest," He responded, giving some of their watchers a polite nod and a smile, before following Evelyn towards the exit, the double doors held open, decorated according to the prom's theme. He glanced to Evelyn, a small smile tugging at his lips. "If you're feelin' up to it, Evelyn... I could take you somewhere more suited to your tastes."

Quirking her brow, Evelyn paused as Alistair offered his suggestion. Had it been anyone else, Evelyn might have thought of it as suggestive and inappropriate, but she hardly thought Alistair was the type who'd ever suggest something like that. Shaking her head, Evelyn's lips pursed. "Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather just go home," she replied as she continued walking. "Unless you had something specific in mind?" Of course, it wasn't as if Evelyn was particularly tired. She just saw little need in walking about without any reason nor mean.
After all, the sole reason she'd come here was to make sure everything ran smoothly for her brother. If it hadn't been as such, Evelyn would have remained at home, looking over the recent numbers as opposed to mingling with the Bellefonte student body.
She was hardly the kind of person who hung out with others. She didn't do typical teenager things, like going to the movies or going bowling. That wasn't her style, and she saw very little amusement in it. She couldn't really think of anything that was more "suited her tastes" here in Kalispell. Kalispell was awfully little, and lacked so many necessities. She was a big city kind of gal, after all.
