This wasn't happening
Alex had only been hoping to get in some time at the pool in the early evening when most everyone else was inside eating, drinking, or both. It was innocent enough, there was no malicious or mischievous intent. She just liked the pool when there weren't so many people around. When she could shut off her mind and let the soothing feel of the water against her skin consume her every thought it became the rare moment when she was able to truly relax. Water had always been therapeutic. It represented a place where she could feel safe from the one thing she feared the most. Herself.
But this was not how the evening swim was supposed to go. She'd lost herself in the calming affects of the pool and, especially when couple with the relative silence of the nearby area, hadn't noticed the loosely tied bikini bottoms she wore had somehow managed to slip off and find their way God knows where. The tiny girl's head broke the surface of the water and swiveled about in a near panic. The fading light helped keep her predicament hidden for the moment, but also proceeded to make it much more difficult to find her runaway clothing.
Muttering a string of heated curses under her breath, Alex swam toward the edge of the pool, eyes still turning this way and that in hopes of locating her clothing before she could attract unwanted attention. For a moment she eyed the deck chair where her towel and small back pack she used in lieu of a purse sat and considered making a run for it. No, that wouldn't work. Even though the pool wasn't crowded like midday, there were still enough people around for her to not want to take the chance.
After a few agonizing minutes Alex's gaze finally settled upon a familiar article of clothing being lifted out of the pool by a curious party. Her eyes widened as she recognized the boy. Or rather, the pair of boys. Alex had run across Casper & Jasper Emory before. The boys had happened upon Alex during a particularly frightening encounter with her own power and she had to cope with being on the Academy Track team with them as well. They were numbers three and four on her list of boys kissed which lead to no small amount of confusion for her and now, there they were, one of them eyeing the one thing she needed in order to prevent utter embarrassment. With a long, slow breath, she started across the pool to where the boys stood.
This wasn't going to end well. Alex just knew it.
"Hi, uh, guys." She called once she'd drawn close enough to speak without raising her voice much. Her bright, expressive eyes shone with hesitation and apprehension as the peered up to the twins. God, she still couldn't tell them apart. It wasn't as if they gave her the chance to think well enough to remember anyway. "So, uh... those are sort of... mine." She explained meekly, her hand coming up to rest against the edge of the pool. "I don't suppose I could... get them back?"
