NAME: Alexandra Renee Lawson
NICKNAME: She's slowly getting used to being called 'Alex'
AGE: 18
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Pansexual
POSITION: College Student
FACE CLAIM: Ariana Grande
POWER:
Pyrokinesis
Alexandra's power manifests by creating and manipulating a simple gout of flame using her hand. Using this aspect of her power, Alexandra should ultimately be able to manipulate flame in ways impossible by normal means. She's shown a capability (although not the capacity) to one day be able to twist and loop her manifested fire around obstacles to a given target. Although it's not as easy, Alexandra could potentially manipulate existing flames, although this is much more difficult.
Limitations
- Alexandra has limited control over it as of yet. High stress situations can (and probably will) cause violent outburst.
- Alexandra is NOT immune or even resistant to fire, even her own manifested flames. Once the fire is created it is just as deadly to her as anyone else. Due to this, her hands and arms are littered with small scars from the back lash of her power.
- Any target must be within line of sight and the power only has a range of roughly 10 meters.
- Alex's power also requires the use of her hands in order to manipulate. If incapable of doing so, activating her power with her hands bound or otherwise restricted would cause an otherwise chaotic outburst that would more than likely do far more damage to herself than anything nearby.
Side-Effects
- She is extremely pyrophobic. She'd never been comfortable around open flame but the apprehension and fear over the dangerous nature of her mutant abilities has driven that discomfort into a full-blown, pathological phobia.
- Purposeful use of her power quickly (within a few minutes) causes fatigue due to the effort needed to exhibit even a small amount of control.
- Alexandra is highly susceptible to fevers and warm weather can cause an unsafe increase in body temperature. As a result, she must stay overly hydrated or risk heat exhaustion or stroke.
- Recorded excerpt from wellness interview, Bellefonte Academy, Jan 9th, 2015”Tell us about your childhood.”
“I'm not sure what to say. I was-am, a normal, happy girl from Redding, California. It's not what you think. Once you go that far North it's nothing like the California people think of. It's pretty much nothing but trees and hills. Think more Oregon than Los Angeles or San Diego.
Sorry, anyway, there's not much to tell. I don't have any dark secrets, no terrible family tragedies. I lived with my mom, dad, and younger brother. I guess we did alright, we never went without but it isn't like we were going to the Bahamas every weekend. Or ever. But I don't know. It was life. It wasn't always the happiest, but we came together as a family whenever things got bad and we persevered, just like families do. I even started working summer when I was fourteen through a program at the local community college to help pay for my own school clothes and all that. It wasn't bad. I liked it.””In your own words, tell us what happened when you were fifteen.”
“Oh. That's when everything changed. It was maybe a week after my fifteenth birthday I was messing around with my laptop and I'd already been having a bad day, so, when it started to go haywire I got... frustrated. I didn't mean to start a fire. It just happened. We were lucky we didn't lose the house, but we had to stay in a hotel for a while until we could figure out what to do. We were still there when the recruiter from the Academy showed up and explained what had actually happened.
My parents weren't happy about it, but that was mostly because they didn't want me to leave. We were all close and one of us being taken away hurt. But they understood and did what they could to help me adjust. I didn't want to go. If I thought I could fight it, I would have. I still miss home, but what can you do? I talk to them as often as I can, and they've visited a few times. I'm happy here, I really am, but I can't wait to go home.””How have you taken to living at the Academy?
“It was hard, at first. It's been three years and I'm still homesick, so that says something. But I try to keep off the radar, try to stay low key. I don't really like too much attention, so I prefer to just get my work done without any fuss. I'm no prodigy, but I don't usually need a lot of help understanding any of the lessons. Except math. I could do without math. That's a big reason why I've chosen journalism as my major.
Anyway. I'm, admittedly, a little shy when I first meet someone but I've met a few people I can open up to. I'm hardly that loner kid sitting in the corner being all brooding and emo. I'll hit up a party or something every once in a while, but if my online friends are getting a team together, I'd probably cancel. Unless there's going to be a movie marathon. Then I'll have to weigh my options.”Tell us about how your mutation has affected your life.”
-Long pause- “I don't hate it as much as I used to, but I can't say I like it. If I had the chance I'd rather go back to just being regular, plain Alexandra Lawson. I'd never been really all that comfortable around fire. Even as a little girl I always avoided it. It wasn't a great thing when your family loves making use of the fireplace in the home you grew up in. Now, though, it's gotten worse. I don't even like movies with a lot of fire in them. It creeps me out. I tried watching that old move Backdraft and it didn't happen. My trainers keep telling me I need to learn to enhance my ability, but I just want to make it go away. It didn't help that I was older when it happened and am behind the curve, but fire and I don't get along. At all. And yes, I'm aware of the irony that a pyrokinetic is pyrophobic. But tell me how much you'd like fire if you could sneeze and singe your eyebrows off.””Thank you, Miss Lawson. You'll receive a notification if we need to follow up on anything. You may now return to class.”
