The ability to manipulate a shadow’s form. Dean is able to shape an already existing shadow into whatever form he wants with a flick of his wrist. He’s still learning how to do it with his mind but for now, he’s very happy just making shadow puppets to entertain the younger ones

They’re intangible so they can’t be used as a weapon
He can’t create a shadow, he’s only able to manipulate what is already there
His manipulations will only remain in the shape he desires for about 3 hours
The bigger the size of the shadow, the lesser time it will keep the shape he wants

APPEARANCE SECTION: Dean has unruly light brown hair that he does nothing to tidy it up. Yes, he does shampoo and comb his hair but at the end of the day, it will go back to its naturally messy state so he doesn’t bother with it. He keeps a somewhat perpetual five o’clock shadow to make him seem a lot older and cooler than he actually is.

Dress wise, he keeps it very casual, though he does like layering his clothes. A t-shirt with a shirt over, and occasionally a sports jacket or a coat, it depends on what he’s in the mood for. He very much cares how comfortable he is than how stylish his clothes are.

Standing at 6 feet tall, his gait itself makes him seem taller. He doesn’t hunch nor does he make any attempt at seeming smaller. But he will crouch down when he addresses kids.

PERSONALITY SECTION: Although quite secretive and usually keeps things close to himself, Dean is outwardly a positive person who sees life as a stepping stone to something greater. He rarely speaks out of turn and wouldn’t interrupt someone even though he has differing opinions towards a certain subject. That being said, he is quite passionate in the things he has strong opinions on and would fight tooth and nail for it.

His clumsiness has become part of his personality so much that he is called Mr. Bump by his closest friends and family. He tried very hard to look where he’s going but he isn’t that good at being aware of his surroundings.

A big goofball that he is, to the point where he’d be the one christening a bouncy castle at the age of 21 at his younger cousin’s birthday party, there are moments where he is quiet and you can feel the intensity just rolling off him.

To say that he is kind would probably be too much of a cliche but given that he would risk getting sick just to get a stray out of a manhole in the middle of a downpour, it wouldn’t be an overshot.

EXTRA QUIRK: He has a dance for every accomplishment he achieves. Even in Wii.

CHILDHOOD: The eldest of four children, Dean slipped into the role of protective older brother pretty easily. His relationship with all three of his siblings were easy. Of course, there were some nasty downs but they were always compensated with brilliant ups.

He helped his parents walk them all to school, making sure they all had their lunches packed and when it was time to go home, he would diligently wait outside of their schools, making sure they all knew what time he would be coming.

At his own school, Dean rarely caused trouble other than a few harmless pranks that he just gets dragged into by his peers. Occasionally, he would be the one to take the full brunt but his teachers knew him much too well to know he wouldn’t do silly things without provocation.

His relationship with his father was a little rocky, butting heads every so often, mostly due to his father’s own inability to suppress his anger but they never came to blows. His relationship with his mother was a lot more pleasant, which seemed to somehow irk his father. He would help his mother out any way he can and he does try to make sure that he doesn’t step on his father’s toes too much.

ADOLESCENCE: Being hauled off to St. Bethany’s a week after his manifestation on his thirteenth birthday was both a blessing and a curse. Finding out that he was a mutant seemed to confirm every thought his father had of him not being his son. It didn’t help at all that soon after, Kelly was also sent off to St. Bethany’s. And then Ingrid and Stephen came soon after. It was enough to drive the man out of the house and with desperate pleas from her children, Lydia finally relented and found a place close to the boarding school.

It wasn’t entirely a happy thing, not having their father around. For all his faults, Dean thought he learned a lot from his father so his absence was deeply felt. It sort of showed in how his academics declined a little as he started to hang out with the rougher crowd. That somehow didn’t stop the school from sending him over to their American counterpart where he met a very young blonde who very well changed his life. Within a year, she managed to bring back the part of Dean that had gone away when he realised how big an impact his father made with his absence.

He continued keeping in touch with her, watching her grow through emails, and text messages, phone calls and eventually Skype. He grew to love her something awful and each year, she would send a charm to him to add to the leather bracelet she had given him before he left for England.

ADULTHOOD: He graduated the year after he came back from Bellefonte, choosing to intern at the school that actually pushed him in the right direction. He felt he owed a lot to St. Bethany’s, despite the rocky start and middle he had with it.

Only quite recently did he manage to get a permanent job as a trainer and he couldn’t have been happier. His siblings quite like taking advantage of his position in school, though it was mostly done out of amusement rather than actually wanting results.

He has quite settled down into the role, although not as an adult. He is still finding his way in that aspect. And still, it didn’t stop St. Bethany’s from sending him yet again to Bellefonte, now as staff, to oversee the well-being of his students in the upcoming tournament. All he cared about the trip was meeting again with the girl he had left his heart with.
