NAME: Josephine Eleanor Pierce
NICKNAME: Jo or Josie.
AGE: 19
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Pansexual
POSITION: College Student // Side-Effect Specialist
FACE CLAIM: Candice Accola
POWER: Force-Field Generation
Josephine has the ability to mentally create, project and shape fields of manipulated energy. She is able to create a shield, wall or field to protect herself, or others. The force-fields themselves are created out of energy and particles, and usually take the form of a spherical or flat wall of clear energy, which means that it's completely see-through. There's no visible traces of the wall to the naked eye, though if someone focus on it long enough, they will be able to see a slight vibrance in the air where the force field is. Josephine can change the form of the force fields, but this takes a lot more energy than having it be naturally spherical or as a flat wall. She can direct them at herself, or others, and use it as a cover/shield that can take a certain degree of damage.
These force field barriers aren't impenetrable and can be removed or broken through by an energy drain, extreme weight or if someone has the ability to mentally shield, block or remove them. This form of energy is without mass, but still acts like a wall, which means that people or objects affected by it will be unable to pass through. Josephine can use these barriers to prevent people from leaving or entering as well as creating a bubble for breathing where one normally can't, such as underwater, around toxic gas, though, prolonged use of airtight barriers will cause asphyxiation.
It takes a lot of focus in order for Josephine to sustain these barriers, and they can be disrupted by distracting her, though there has been instances where she has blocked someone's path when angered or distressed. Her ability has in some cases been used by her emotions, though that's only in extreme cases. Normally, Josephine is only able to create smaller walls or shields without a lot of effort. These are normally just big enough to form a bubble around herself in a standing position. The bigger and stronger the barriers/walls/bubbles are, the more energy it drains, and the more focus it needs. The bigger the size, the easier and quicker she will get tired and exhausted too.
Limitations & Side-Effects:
* She is limited to size, shape and how long the barriers last, all depending on how well rested she is and how long it has been since she has slept. Normally, she cannot create bigger bubbles/walls/barriers than enough to cover herself, which would be approximately 2x2 feet. She can make the barriers last for about an hour, possibly two if she is fully rested. If she make them bigger, they will last a shorter amount of time, and she will get drained of energy quicker. This often leads to insomnia, mental and physical exhaustion.
* She is also limited to range, and cannot create barriers further than 50 feet away, and that's on a good day. She prefers sticking to around 15-20 feet, because it takes less effort.
* When it comes to the part about extreme weight, she cannot stop something like bullets or a wrecking ball, or crashing cars or stuff like that. She would however be able to block low-speeding cars (To some degree; It would only last for tops a few minutes before the barrier/wall will break), or people pushing against it.
* If Josephine is under some form of stress, the barriers will become weaker and easier to break through, and attacks on them might cause damage to both her body and her mind. This often leads to headaches that can develop into migraines and nosebleeds, mental and physical exhaustion.
* Josephine has to focus and concentrate a lot to both maintain and create her barriers/force-fields/bubbles/shields, and this can result in headaches, energy drain, migraines, muscle pains, temporarily loss of sensory functions.
* People with abilities that can block/remove/break through mental barriers will have an easier time removing her barriers.
* Josephine has still a long way to go in order to achieve full control of her ability, but she has enough control for it to not really cause any issues. It normally doesn't turn on by itself, unless there's some heightened emotions causing it to happen; Fear, anger, distress, etc. However, in the future, she might be able to grow stronger, which means that her barriers might last longer, be able to grow bigger and take more weight.
The blonde's blue eyes scanned the small room with an overly exaggerated annoyed expression, "This is fucking bullshit," she whined and shook her head. "He told me he'd be here," she added with a dramatic hand gesture. She looked towards her friends. They weren't really paying attention to her. They never did. She rose to her feet then, roaring a mere 5'7 feet above the ground. She ran her hands down her shirt, straightening out the clothing that clung to her slender form. Her friends didn't look up, but she was used to it. Josephine cast a glance around and her eyes stopped at an elderly man walking towards them, "Shit," she whispered, "I gotta run."
Darting between the set of tables, Josephine greeted the elderly man with a polite smile, "Dad," she said. He cast a simple glance at her, nodded and turned his attention back at the phone. "The car's waiting," he said dully and turned on his heel, a black suitcase hanging from his free hand. Rolling her eyes, Josephine bit down on her full lips, preventing herself from saying anything. That never ended well. Instead, the fourteen year old girl followed obediently after him, just like the good daughter she was.
Once in the car, the blonde folded her hands in her lap and stared absentmindedly out the window. Her dad didn't say anything. It seemed to be normal though. No one ever really talked to her. They treated her like she wasn't even there. They barely acknowledged her. Her father wanted a son. He blamed her. His wife couldn't have anymore children. She was all they got. She wasn't good enough. He didn't want her to take over the company. He never said those things. He just made her feel like that was the case. Maybe it wasn't.
The limousine stopped outside their penthouse building and the man, her father, whom she barely knew at all, stepped outside without another word. He just looked at his phone. She followed him in silence, offering their driver a polite smile. Her mother had taught her that, to be polite even to the help.
"Go get your mother," her father said and put his suitcase on top of the kitchen table. Nodding, Josephine turned on her heels and walked towards the master bedroom. It only took her a few minutes. She knew the route by heart. She lifted her hand to knock on the door. Once, twice, three times. "Dad wants to see you." Silence. "He asked me to come get you." Someone moves within. "He's waiting." Silence. Josephine then turns around and walks back towards the kitchen.
"You've gained weight," the raspy voice of her mother says across the table. Josephine forced a smile. "I'm only 130 po--" She says, but stopped when her mother raised her hand. "Dear," her mother says and turns to look at her husband, "We should refill her gym card." Don't talk to me like I'm not here. "Is that so.." her father says, clearly uninterested. Her mother nodded and turned back to her meal.
"I can't believe she has not manifested yet."
"It'll happen soon, I'm sure."
Don't talk to me like I'm not here.
"What if she doesn't?"
"I don't know."
"Dad--"
"I manifested at eleven, as did my mother. Your family manifested at twelve and thirteen."
"It'll happen soon."
"What if it doesn't?"
Please stop.
"I don't know."
Stop. Stop. Stop.
"It's such an odd thing.."
"Mmmmhm."
"I mean... What should we do if she doesnt--"
"Please stop!"
Josephine rose to her feet and slammed her fist against the table, the corner of her eyes soaked with salty tears. She was shaking, almost vibrating as she stood there, her eyes locked upon her mother. "Please..." she whispered, her voice barely above a hushed whisper. Her mother rolled her eyes and lifted her hand to wave her daughter's temper tantrum away, but instead, her hand slammed against the glass of water next to her, sending the glass soaring towards the floor. Reaching forward, Josephine stretched out her hand, but stopped when she found the glass almost hovering in the air, the water spilled out over something that looked like a spherical shape made of nothing. "What...." she whispered, both her parents looking at the phenomenon with wide eyes.
"Well, I suppose that settles it then."
"What?"
"You have no idea how happy this has made me, Josephine!"
"Wait, what do you--"
"I'll call the school right away and let them know."
"You should pack your things right away."
"Wait!"
Josephine pressed her lips into a thin line as she watched the giant building in front of her. Bellefonte Academy. Her new home for the next four years. She was fourteen years old, had manifested a lot later than the rest of her family, but at last, it had finally happened and the young girl had been sent out into the world on her own and she was terrified. She was shaking, clutching onto her sleeve as her blue eyes scanned the almost empty courtyard. "It's now or never, Jo..."
She started walking towards the school, her eyes glued to the ground in front of her. She was nervous. Really nervous. She wasn't quite sure how she was supposed to feel like, or what she was supposed to do. She had no choice though. She had to attend this school, filled with 'people like her'. She turned to glance at the limo and swallowed hard. She could see her mother waving from behind the half open window.
"Good luck, dear! Don't forget to work out regularly. Don't eat carbs, and don't-"
"We have to leave."
"Goodbye love!"
"...Bye..."
Okay, Josephine... You can do this. If you survived them, you can survive this. Take a deep breath, lift your head and walk proudly.
