A bit preoccupied with her line, Elizabeth laughed when it was evident the fish did not want to get caught. It was either swimming downwards or farther away from the bank. Either way, she was getting dragged a little.
"Holy shit, it's definitely strong." She snorted before releasing the tension and then reeling it back in as hard as she could.
Beau's offer was met with a shake of the head before a confident grin descended on her lips. "Damn straight it should be." She chuckled and finally she saw the fish breaking the water surface and she pulled the pole back and dug her heel.
It wasn't that big a fish but it was pretty heavy. "Yay!" She pulled the line towards her and got slapped by the fish a couple times. "Oh my God, help." She laughed.

"Probly means it's a bigun," said Beau. his attention was definitely more on Liz's line than his own. He licked his lips, his eyes darting to his own for a moment. Yeah, she was definitely going to need his help, and from the looks of things, pretty darn soon. Beau heard the splash as the fish broke the surface.
He'd already dropped his line and moved over by the time Liz's pole started to bend. He hurried over, wrapping his arms around her. Soon his hands grabbed the pole, and he pulled back, digging his own heels into the ground. The line bent again, the fish getting closer. It hit the shore, getting dangerously close to Liz.
Then slapping her. "You gotta be kiddin' me," said Beau, chuckling. He let go, coming around to grab the line. He dug into his pocket, produced a multi-tool and smacked the fish on the head with it. As soon as he had the critter stunned, Beau twisted and pulled, getting him off the hook with almost too much ease. "He's a big'un too," he said, admiring it. The fish came back to life and Beau had to jerk. "Bucket! Bucket!" he called, attempting to jerk the still wiggling fish toward the bucket they'd prepared for him.

"No doubt." Elizabeth responded distractedly and even when Beau's arms wound around hers, it didn't really register as they tried to reel the fish in together.
But she did finally realise Beau was there when he basically hit the fish to stop it from slapping her. She started to laugh but no sooner had she done so, the fish started to squirm again. Beau's calling out for the bucket was almost not heard by the stunned Elizabeth but eventually she grabbed it and rushed to Beau, holding the bucket up.
"Oh my God, what a slapper." She started laughing again as she wiped at her cheeks with her shoulders.

Beau fought the fish for a few moments, feeling it manage to slap him a few more times. The thing almost slid from his grasp once or twice, but Beau's experience in wrangling fish came to the forefront yet again. He caught it, though not without giving it a look.
"Oughta stab you in the eye," he growled at the fish. Not that he thought it would actually hear him. he jerked it upright, getting it into the bucket. Naturally water went everywhere, splashing the two of them. Beau sputtered for a bit, waving his hand, letting droplets of water fly everywhere.
"You would pick one of the orneriest fish in the whole--" began Beau. He probably would've finished, except he saw his own line heading toward the water. Muttering some few choice words, he dove, snatching it just as it started to touch the water. This meant that Beau slid into the water for a bit, but that didn't seem to bother him in the slightest. Soon he was turned around, his feet digging into the soft bank, pulling back, obviously determined to land a slapper of his very own.

When the water splashed both of them this time, Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh. This was turning out to be the wettest excursion they have had bar none.
Elizabeth frowned slightly when Beau stopped mid sentence to dive on to the ground only to slide into the water. "Oh shit, Beau!" She winced but he came back up and was reeling in a fish that looked to be just as stubborn as the first one.
"Come on baby, getim outta there." The pyrokinetic cheered from the sidelines.

Beau had to agree with the "oh shit" sentiment, especially as he felt his shoes slipping. He'd brought a battered pair of tennis shoes though, so he wasn't exactly worried about the condition of his footwear. Didn't make the water sloshing in any more enjoyable, but, eh, what can you do. The fish fought back again, and Beau felt himself slide.
He could hear Liz cheering and grunted. He took a few more steps back, digging his heels in harder. Really, Beau should be asking Liz to help, if for no other reason than to get someone on more solid ground to do some of the lifting here. That grated on his manly pride though. Plus, Beau just knew he could do this if he buckled down and tried. The fish lunged again, as if reading his mind and challenging, but Beau dug in all the harder, taking several steps back. He saw it flop out of the water a few feet from shore, and he grunted.
"Get. The. Bucket. Ready," he grunted between words, leaning back and reeling harder than ever, the fish getting closer and closer to shore.

Elizabeth scrambled to get the bucket ready, sitting by the bank near Beau. She poked the water as the fish she caught swam circles in it.
"Ready, bub." She gave him a cheery two thumbs up. "Doing a good job, baby."
If he had asked, she would obviously have helped but part of her kind of knew that he didn't want to. It was something that she found endearing but sometimes, it did feel good to be asked.

"That's the plan," agreed Beau, nodding. He kept reeling and pulling back. His entire focus honed on getting the dang fish out of the water. Like Liz said, it had gotten closer, and Beau grunted. Then he did one last mighty pull, and...
a fish about half the size of Liz's broke free of the water. Beau groaned as he saw it. Didn't help that it wiggled about half as much as Liz's did. he sighed, reaching up for it, knocking it into the bucket easily enough. The other fish bumped against it a few times, obviously establishing itself as the more dominant animal.
"Well, looks like you won the first round, Edison," Beau drawled, looking at the bucket and seeing their catches swimming around each other. Beau tapped the bucket a few times, nodding. "Now, let's see if the others will jus' be easy ones, eh? Though I wouldn't mind havin' to work together to get another one or two out," judging by Beau's grin as he turned toward the water, he fully intended on doing precisely that.

Beau looked at the fish for another moment before reaching to rebait his hook. Because of course the monster they'd just reeled in had taken off with the worm. While he baited his hook, he smiled at Liz. "Well, I guess it don't gotta be, since we're both gonna be enjoyin' the rewards."
He deftly hooked the worm, gave it a little flick to make sure that it held, which let him see his dirty nails. He chuckled at that; like Beau was going to care about something like the cleanliness of his hands. The worm held, still squirming a little, which meant that Beau could give the line another little flick, sending the bait zooming out into the fish again.
"Guess I'm jus' use to havin' stuff be a competition an' all," he admitted, turning to look. "Comes from being near the bottom of a heap o' siblings or somethin'. Football probly don't help none," he spun the reel absently, squinting across the water. Next time, he'd have to remember his ball cap. He'd just gotten all wrapped up in getting Liz and getting everything else that he'd spaced it off this time.

"Yes. Yes we are." She nodded as she continued poking the water in the bucket. Absentmindedly, she grabbed a worm from the chum bucket and hooked it up to her line, wiping the dirt on her overalls and casting the line. The bite didn't happen as fast as it did before so she took the opportunity to grab her sketchbook out.
She dug her pole into the sand and chuckled at Beau's explanation. She understood. Hell, she had to compete for food and attention with six older brothers in the house. It was hard.
As she began the outline of Beau's profile, Elizabeth smiled and nudged him with her foot. "Hey." She grinned.

Beau quickly became absorbed in the fishing, his attention taut. He hadn't gotten to do something like this, just out and enjoying himself, in so long. He also couldn't help but be glad that they'd opted for fishing over, say, hunting or something. violence with hook and line, Beau could handle. Just so long as they stayed away from guns and powers.
Beau moved his pole about expertly, obviously from the school of fishing that believed that movement was a good thing. At least, until he felt a little nudge. He turned then, seeing Liz sprawled there, and remembered the other fun part about fishing: just relaxing and staring out into the gently lapping water: all the better if you had someone special by your side.
With a grin at her, Beau moved up a little, getting closer. "Sorry 'bout that, got a little wrapped up," he said. He dragged his pole up, moving to get it dug in. "Figure we still got a little while 'fore it gets too dark." Beau stopped bothering with the digging, having decided instead to keep hold. He did look over at Liz. "That your sketchbook? Surprised I'm surprised that you brought it," he drawled. He chuckled again before looking out at the water, taking a deep breath, obviously enjoying the indoors, his shoulders slumping, his entire posture more relaxed and at peace than it had been anywhere but Liz's arms in weeks.

It was obvious that Beau was at peace. Even the outline of his profile managed to capture that. Elizabeth's smile softened when he turned and apologised.
"It's okay. You kinda look even more handsome in this light at this angle. I was kinda enjoying it." She teased, not wanting to make the moment too serious.
Gathering her hair in a bunch before letting it drop to the other shoulder, she chuckled at his remark about her sketchbook. "Are you kidding me? It's a gold opportunity to get some sketching done. And I could totally use some shots for my portfolio." She added, though what she was going to do with that portfolio, she didn't know.
She couldn't help but stare at Beau, tilting her head a little as she admired how he looked right then. The sun was very slowly setting and when it hit the right spot, the pyrokinetic quickly took out her camera and made sure the flash wasn't on and captured the moment. "Damn, you are gorgeous." She chuckled, looking down at the display picture on the screen of her camera.

"Guess there are plenty of things to sketch around here," agreed Beau, nodding toward the lake with the evening light glistening across its surface, painting it in golds and violets. "Since I'm guessin' you can't fill the whole thing with self-portraits."
He smiled at her, and would've likely noticed the staring had his rod not started moving. He turned to grab it, pausing at the comment, looking back over his shoulder at her. "Gorgeous, huh? Don't reckon that's somethin' my ma an' paw were hopin' I'd be called in my life," he said. He chuckled and raised his pole up, working to crank the fish in. It put up something of a fight, but it definitely wasn't quite as feisty as its others.
"Should I do one of those cheesy photos holdin' up the fish? No, wait," he said, pulling a little more, "I'm guessin' that ain't fancy enough for a 'portfolio,' huh?"

"Looking at one very viable option for it too." She wriggled her eyebrows before pointing in the bucket. "My crazy fish I mean." She teased before waving a dismissive hand. "Just kidding. It's you. Duh."
His response to her compliment made her laugh. "Hey, I did say handsome first. I would have gone on with some other...stuff but you are one big blonde distraction, Beauregarde LaRoux."
When he reeled in another one while hers sat limp, she chuckled at his question. "What? Are you kiddin' me? I can see myself winning an award for that, mkay? Now come on, reel that sucker in so I can take a cheesy photo of my boyfriend and his catch." She pulled her camera up readily.
