It’s Not What It Seems

[Devyn Solway]

"R-right." Devyn said with a small nod as she took a deep breath and managed to at least get herself back under control. To stop thinking such thought and to not let her emotions get in the way. She had to remain calm, relaxed, and as if nothing was no big deal. That was how she kept in control and that was when things did not hurt as bad as actually thinking about such things. Devyn was supposed to feel things, art did that, right? She felt things from Zoe's work and she probably would feel more things now that her mind had been opened a little more on this whole feeling from art. To allow it to open up your mind and reach in and pull at the strings of your heart. A small smile was brought back to Devyn’s face as Zoe squeezed her hand back and even moved to give Devyn’s cheek a kiss. "Thanks." Devyn said as she looked at Zoe, happy to have Zoe kiss her because the physical contact made her feel better.

Zoe was soon pointing off in a direction that had Devyn's eyes going to where Zoe was pointing. Zoe's work was down that way. Zoe flushing as she went on to explain that she meant the ones that she took of others, bringing up names that Devyn had heard before. That pang of possessiveness hitting her again and not liking the idea of Zoe having friends. Well that was not true. She liked Zoe to have friends; she didn't like people getting to be close to Zoe because Zoe was hers. She just wanted Zoe to herself from time to time and for no one else to exist when it was just the two of them together. Zoe wanted to look at a few more things here and it seemed she was giving Devyn the okay to move ahead. "Alright, I'll meet you there then, if that is okay." Devyn said as she moved to lift up the hand she was holding to her lips to give it a kiss before letting it go. Heading off to where Zoe had pointed her to.

Devyn still checked out the few displays on the way, looking at them, and seeing what she felt but she had her main goal. When she got there she spent most of the time looking over the photos, observing the phases closely of those that were in Zoe's phots and trying to commit them to memory. More than likely she end up forgetting them since she was still just thinking too much for anything to really stick. I really miss and need you dad. Devyn thought to herself as she let out a small sigh, green eyes looking over the photos.

The plan had been set, and Zoe smiled and nodded, glad to hear that it would be okay. They could be apart from one another for a few moments, surely, especially as Zoe kept getting completely entranced by the various artworks that she saw. In fact, as Devyn moved on, Zoe half considered going back and looking at a few she'd effectively skipped in a hurry to get here and make Devyn more comfortable.

The urge only held for a few seconds though, before Zoe shook her head. She couldn't do that, not to Devyn. It would just be wrong, mean, almost. Her lips still tingle slightly from that kiss, definitely from something that had nothing to do with mutant powers (which was a nice change of pace). No, Zoe instead focused on looking through the various photographs, recognizing the scene, many of which she'd seen through her own camera's eye. Though she didn't want to say so, she happened to think that she did better than most of these. There were a few, especially the ones in color, that she thought did better than others.

She found herself lingering upon a particular scene, one that she could've sworn she'd been at. It looked like the courtyard, but from a above looking down, caught in the middle of a slightly overcast day. Something about the simplistic, almost common look at it just... struck her, and she found herself lingering, staring, feeling almost a sad longing well up.

The different art work was still nice but it was still something that was not something that was something that Devyn could fill passion about like Zoe did. She could try but it was just not her thing. They were just nice things to look at and some would be what Devyn would put up on her wall, but that was pretty much it. Why would Devyn want something on her wall that caused her to feel sad or down? She only wanted to look at things that were good, that only brought about happy memories and the like. Still, she was giving this a shot for Zoe's sake and it was not all that bad but she knew she could not do this sort of thing for hours. Her mind was already asking for her to go off and do something else. Just looking at pictures when she was not doing anything was just not doing it for her.

Plus after that whole feeling back with that one picture that had almost made her feel like she wanted to get away from this art feeling stuff for a moment. She still she looked over all of Zoe's photos and a few more that were not Zoe's work. She did look for somewhere to sit after a moment or too, keeping close to where she said she meet Zoe at and grabbed a seat. Still hold the tiger and looking at it while her mind wondered. What would they do after this? Probably this would be it since Zoe had to go to that action and they were spending a lot of time in here. Devyn actually didn’t know how long they had been in here for but it felt like they had to have at least had been in here for an hour or two at this point.

Maybe it just felt like it because she was not having like super fun. Then again time moved slow when you were not having a ton of fun so it could have been less than an hour.

[Zoe Wallerstein-Smythe]

Zoe did linger, staring at the various photographs for a moment. After a little while, she did think to pull out her phone, wondering about the time. Her eyes widened as she saw the numbers blinking back at her. So much time! It had all passed in a moment to, flickering by so quickly that Zoe couldn't believe it. Then again, she felt so wonderful here, so filled, like walking on air.

Zoe strolled up to Devyn though, moving slightly quicker. She frowned as she saw the other girl sitting, not looking at the photos or anything else. How long had she been like that? She could've gotten Zoe or said something. Then again, Zoe wouldn't have done either in Devyn's place, so perhaps she shouldn't think as much. Still, she felt just awful, especially because:

"We need to leave," she said, apology layered thick over every syllable. "It's getting rather late..." and there were other things that needed to be done. Zoe shifted her feet, hoping that Devyn didn't hate her for wasting so much of her time on this.

Devyn smiled and looked over to Zoe when she could smell her girlfriend coming over towards her. Standing up to meet her while still holding the tiger under her arm like she had been the whole time in the art exhibit. Her smiled faded when Zoe said that they needed to leave and how it was running late. Devyn could practically hear the 'I’m sorry' behind Zoe's words and could not help but smile a little. Even now Zoe was just so nice when she didn't really need to be sorry about anything. "It's alright; it was fun while it lasted." Devyn said as she reached a hand out to take Zoe's and give it a squeeze and shifted her grip of the tiger so she could move in closer to Zoe. "Thanks for showing me art and teaching me about how to look at it." Devyn said being fully honest with her words because she was happy to have learned something new.

It was part of why she dated older people because they had more experiences then she did. Like Zoe, sure Zoe innocent and not all that but she was still older then Devyn and while she was not all that social Zoe still knew things and had done things that Devyn had never done. "I look forward to our next time hanging out." Devyn said as she leaned in to try and give Zoe a quick kiss on the lips. Sure they were in public but it would be a quick one and it just didn't feel right to say good bye without one. She would not force it so if Zoe moved out of the way she accept it and head out of the exhibit with Zoe until they would have to part ways.

Zoe smiled as Devyn insisted that it was alright, that she'd learned, that she'd had fun. Zoe wasn't certain whether Devyn lied to her or not, whether the words had been fed to Zoe just to assuage her feelings. Part of her felt like they were, that they almost had to be. She brushed all that aside, instead latching onto what the words said. Her eyes shone as she smiled, feeling the warmth that came so easily from the other girl.

"Me too," she said, meaning both words to an extent that they simply couldn't measure. She stood on her toes, leaning into the quick kiss. Just a brief touch of a lips though, then Zoe's hand was tapping at Devyn's lips. They were in public; they couldn't do much more than that. The hand then went to squeeze Devyn's, pulling it away from the stuffed toy. Then Zoe could take it, the large thing looking nearly massive when held against her tiny body.

Thus entangled, they could leave the building together, moving on from that moment into another.
