It’s Not What It Seems

No, Zoe didn't have anything to do with SPECTRE; Devyn just brought it up to point out the fact that they were safe. There was no reason to fear or think that anyone hated her since SPECTRE was the only ones that really hated mutants. Zoe was not alone there, they hated Devyn, and they hated all of them. They were gone now, they didn't matter. Another hard swallow, Devyn’s eyes not leaving Zoe except for small seconds when she needed to make sure she was not going to run into something, but her peripherals were doing pretty good at making sure that was not going to happen. Plus she could smell everything and how far or close it was, so that helped as well with her being able to keep her eyes on just Zoe. More deep breaths from Zoe, Devyn still worried that Zoe was going to end up fainting and was ready at any second to catch Zoe if she needed to.

"Good, don't ever forget it." Devyn responded back to Zoe's 'i know', happy that Zoe did in fact know. She sounded like she believed it, in fact more so on the embarrassed side like she should have known but had just forgotten. Devyn would remind her as often as she needed to if that was what it took. She would help Zoe stay out of that dark hole of thinking people hated her. Keep Zoe knowing that she was cared for, she was important, and that she would be looked after and protected. Thinking all of these things just made Devyn's desire to say what was on her mind now. Holding it back was for the best, but at the same time she felt like if she said it now, it would be better. That way if things didn't go as she had planned, then it would be like ripping off a band aid. Getting it done and over with and just hoping for the best and hoping that the worst didn't feel like you were being killed.

Zoe looked back over at Devyn and was then offering her own treat to Devyn. Why was Zoe just so sweet? Devyn could not help but to smile warmly at Zoe, the person she really did want to be her girlfriend. The flushing just made it all the more cute as Devyn leaned forward to take a bite out of the treat, making sure to not be an animal about it. Chewing it and smiling at Zoe. "I love..." Devyn said, feeling so close to saying it and actually tried, but that you part got caught in her throat. That fear again settling in, but she just licked her lips of the cholate from the treat. "Thank you Zoe. You are so sweet." Devyn said after a moment of recovering and calming herself down watching Zoe closely to see how Zoe would react and if she could say it now or if she really should wait.

Everyone kept saying stuff like that. Zoe sighed, realizing for not the first time that if "everyone" kept saying it, then obviously she was the one who needed to stop and think about what that probably meant. She shoved the thought aside, reminding herself to live in the present. in the now. Where she was at a fair with someone she liked, loved on some level, sharing a delicious treat.

Zoe smiled as Devyn took a bite of said treat, flushing again and looking away. Her eyes roamed, taking in the raucous sights that greeted her. She looked back to Devyn as the other girl said something, nodding. "They are quite good," she said, obviously meaning the treat. She raised it back to her mouth, taking another nibble when Devyn had finished. she flushed a little at the compliment that followed, looking demurely away yet again.

"There's so much to do here," she said, after having first removed the treat from her mouth. She gestured. "So much noise and activity... it's quite overwhelming," she took another breath before nibbling on the last few bits of her treat.

Zoe should live in the moment, and that was what Devyn tried to do even if her mind kept looking ahead to what could happen and looking back to what happened in the past. Everything made her feel conflicted and that was why she as having the fear that seemed to make her want to mess things up that she knew deep down that she really wanted. She wanted Zoe and she knew she was going to have to stop worrying about her past failed love experiences and stop worrying about what would happen if things didn't work out. She needed to stay in control over her power and her emotions in order to not fall apart. The best way to do that was to focus on there here, the now, and on Zoe. Focusing on Zoe was not all that hard with how cute Zoe was, from the way she stood there, flushing, and then nibbling on the treat.

Zoe being so kind to share the treat with Devyn after it was Devyn's fault that her own was now ant food. She left most of the treat for Zoe to eat, since the treat was for Zoe and she didn't really need it. If Zoe offered her more or what was left then yes she would consume it, but it was not something that was on her mind. Zoe didn't seem to catch what Devyn had tried to say...that might have been a good or bad thing. Devyn was going to take it as a good thing because then she could say it when everything would be just right, romantic. Zoe would love that for sure. "I'll have to make them for you when the fair is gone." Devyn said referring to the treat, watching Zoe for a moment before looking around again. Looking to Zoe when she started to point out that there was so much to do here and how there was so much noise.

Pointing out that it was overwhelming which just had Devyn moving to take Zoe's free hand and interlaced their fingers together. Bringing the hand up to her lips then, giving the thinly gloved digits a kiss. "We can do whatever you want. We don't even have to stay here. I'll stay by your side and look after you either way." Devyn pointed out, as if she was some prince giving her life and her everything to a princess she had rescued, and in a way she was.

"It's not the same," said Zoe, nearly whining. She flushed a little after that, lowering her head. She gave the stick one last, almost mournful look. There would be more, and she didn't just mean in some far off future. Zoe fully intended on having at least one more treat in the very near future, though she may opt for an Italian Ice or something along those lines as well.

She was tempted to point out to Devyn that this was proof that she really did eat, even like sweets and everything. Zoe just preferred her food to be a good deal lighter and airier, as opposed to a heavy slab of steak or whatnot. For now though, Zoe kept that to herself. Instead she focused on Devyn's hand in hers, curling about it protectively, even pulling it up for another kiss. Zoe smiled at that, her eyes sparkling for a moment before she turned her gaze on the fair as a whole.

"I don't even know where to start,' she admitted, "well, besides getting the treat. I've looked at several of the games and such, and, well," she flushed, "I don't think I'd be very good at them. Besides," she reached over and patted the tiger, "seems we've already got one of those. There's the rides, I guess, though, um, I'm not," she shifted her feet, looking down before looking up at Deyvn, practically squeaking the next few words: "I don't really like... um, exciting rides,' she had practically blushed to her ears. Somehow she didn't see Devyn favoring rides like the carousal or the Ferris Wheel, and those were about as thrilling as ride as Zoe wanted to get near.

"I'm sorry. Then I'll just have to buy you some more before the fair ends then. How does that sound?" Devyn asked since Zoe said that her making them would not be the same as what she had now. That was very true. How it was made and what was used could all end up different and not taste the same. Plus there was that whole 'the environment also effected the flavor' sort of thing that Devyn figured Zoe was getting at. She could still make Zoe some chocolate covered treats, but for sure she would get Zoe something else from the fair. She would get Zoe anything she asked for, or at least try to. All Zoe had to do was ask, that was all she ever had to do and Devyn normally would give her best to meet the request or fulfill the question. Zoe never asked for much, which was sweet but also didn't give Devyn much knowledge in the ways of what she could do to make Zoe happy. She was figuring things out still, but other times it ended up being a guessing game.

Devyn knew that Zoe ate; she just ate like she was some little rabbit or small little creature. Yes Zoe was small and thin, but that didn't mean she should miss out on the deliciousness that was meat. She was pretty sure that Zoe would end up being a full on vegetarian if Devyn didn't try to get her to eat meat. Maybe she could try more so fish meat since it was light and lean, that might work out better with Zoe's diet. The hand holding was wonderful and Devyn actually always enjoyed that form of contact with Zoe. Able to pull her close if she needed to and would also have a connection to her no matter how many people were around or where they were. She smiled at Zoe as the hand kiss, missing that sparkle in Zoe's eyes and smiled even more for a moment at seeing it. Man she really was feeling something from Zoe, her stomach felt all weird and everything. Unless it was not liking the treat she had a few bites off, but that was less likely. Zoe pointed out that she didn't even know where to start, which was understandable because it was a huge fair and there was a lot to do.

She had only thought about treats, and the games that she saw she didn't think she would be very good at them. Devyn about to point out that it didn't matter if Zoe was good at them or not, if she wanted to play them then she could. She patted the tiger and pointed out that they already did have a prize, which was true. Then talk about rides with Zoe looking at her feet and then almost squeaking out that she didn't really like exciting rides. So that basically removed anything that went fast, up, down, upside down, and spun around. Devyn did like the extreme ride of course, since they did get her blood pumping but she pretty much enjoyed all rides, even the kid ones that she ended up being too big to ride anyways. It was just the fact that they were rides that made it fun. Then thinking of romance Devyn figured there were a ride that would be perfect for some alone time and a great view.

"You don't mind heights do you? I was thinking that maybe we could get on the Ferris Wheel together." Devyn basically asked but more so suggesting it. It was a win-win ride really. It didn't go that fast, but it went up high and just the fact of being the high itself gave Devyn a rush. Plus tons of movies had them being a source of romance or horrible drama so she figured Zoe would like them. If not she was going to have to think like maybe the swings or something for a ride.

For not the first time, Zoe felt almost girlish around someone; in this case, Devyn with the whole treat thing. She just kept her gaze averted, figuring that Devyn would be alright with it. It did seem that after Zoe's near attack, Devyn seemed to be better. Zoe's own nerves still felt somewhat fried and frayed, as if ready to spiral off at the slightest provocation. Zoe took another shuddering breath, reminding herself to keep focusing on what was going on now, not on some strange feelings or what happened or whatever.

When Zoe looked at Devyn, after mentioning the whole ride thing, she thought she saw Devyn look disappointed. Then again, Zoe had pretty well been looking for that, so maybe she saw exactly what she wanted? Ugh, she just kept overlooking things. The question caught her by surprise then, and it showed as she blinked her wide eyes at Devyn. "What? Um, no?" she'd never been bothered by heights, the Ferris Wheel often being one of her favorites. She was a little worried about being in a closed space with Devyn so high up though. It seemed like a good way to get her trapped and talking about something serious again.

"You're not, um, going to," began Zoe. She then flushed, looking away. She shouldn't accuse Devyn of that. But at the same time, she didn't really want to go if it was just going to be some way of getting her somewhere high and inescapable to bring up another heavy conversation...

Zoe was averting her eyes, which Devyn was fine with and just thought Zoe was just being cute as she seemed to have a habit. It must have been like in her DNA. One of those strands things that Devyn forgot the name of probably just had 'always be cute' codded into it. Yuck, no more science thinking at the moment, but still the idea of taking some of DNA from Zoe and looking under a microscope to see those words did make Devyn smile a little more as she was mentally chuckling. Holding back the chuckling from slipping out so Zoe would not think Devyn had lost it or something for the sort of random laugh. Devyn did calm down a lot, but she was still on edge, thinking a lot, wondering if what she was saying or doing was okay. Had the hand kissing been a bit too much, was she holding Zoe's had too protectively, was she walking to fast or slow? This that she didn't really even think about were now on her mind as she was worried that she was going to mess everything up.

She did remind herself that Zoe did like her the way she was so at least she could be somewhat like her normal self. There were just parts of her that Zoe did not like, but Devyn was not fully sure what parts that Zoe had a problem with. She guessed the whole open relationship since when someone did say they loved you that meant they wanted you and only you. Devyn could try for a closed relationship, that was her plan but she had to save that for their talk. Devyn was not outright disappointed in Zoe not liking rides that Devyn would have liked. She sort of figured as much and again liked rides because the fact that they were rides. Something you could just sit there and enjoy with someone and only a few of them ever require a small amount of effort on your part. "Great, can we go on that together now then or do you want to wait?" Devyn asked after Zoe said that she was not afraid of heights. Well said it in the form of a question, but maybe she was just confused on why Devyn thought Zoe might have been afraid of heights.

Devyn was already looking for the structure, something big enough that you could not really miss it and was pleased when she spotted it not too far from where they were. They could even grab another treat and take it and the tiger up with them. "Hmm?" Devyn made the question sound as she looked over to Zoe who seemed like she was about to ask something, but decided against it. Flushing, looking away, and causing Devyn to think. O.k...what might she have said. Devyn thought to herself as she ran through things that Zoe might have brought up. Narrowing it down to two really and just went with both of them and hoped for the best. Zoe saying 'you're not' so it was probably going to be a question of Devyn better not be trying something. "Uhh...well I'm not going to try and get real touchy with you up there, maybe a kiss or two if that was okay with you and...we can talk about anything you want...or nothing at all. Just let me know." Devyn said the last part figuring like that was the best way to avoid doing something Zoe would not like her to do. As well as finding out what Zoe might have wanted or been okay with her doing.

Could they do it together? Yes, Zoe supposed; she just didn't know if she wanted to. She kept fidgeting, trying to figure out which words to bring out for Devyn to hear. So many bounced around in her head, pinging off one another. Zoe could practically hear them jostling around in there. Devyn spoke, and more words just slid through the ones already existing. It almost sounded like Devyn fought to find each and every one of Zoe's doubts and swat it away. No touching, no talking if they didn't want...

Zoe just didn't know. She hesitated again. She wanted to trust Devyn; she still cared so deeply for the girl, but, she just didn't know. The strange chances and the sudden bursts and the conversation hanging overhead. It all made Zoe doubt, twisted her stomach and made her squirm all the more.

Finally, she just had to squeak "Okay," taking a few tentative steps toward the ride. She'd head there, hopefully with Devyn, and try to brush aside all the doubts she could feel clawing at the edge of her mind, insisting that this was going to be a horrible idea with dire consequences.

Zoe was not saying anything; just fidgeting, which was the standard for Zoe but it was making Devyn feel less awesome. Self-confidence already pretty low and when she thought it was building again it was actually just going back down. Was she still not doing and saying the right things? It was the conversation she wanted to talk about Zoe with, it had to be. That was when Zoe started to get all panicky and asked to talk about it later. Would there be a later? Did Zoe even want to talk to Devyn alone when the conversation was about something serious? Didn't Devyn at least have the right to try and take things seriously with Zoe? She thought that was what Zoe wanted, but maybe she was wrong, still wrong. I wish she would talk to me. Say something, anything...so in the dark with all of this. Devyn thought to herself as he green eyes looked down at the ground and then to the tiger still tucked under her arm. Did Zoe even like that as a gift? Maybe it was too much, too big, or maybe she just didn't like big cats.

Zoe still didn't let Devyn know if she didn't want them to talk, if she didn't want them to touch. The hand holding was apparently fine, even if Zoe had flinched away at first, but at least for now it had to be okay. Zoe didn't fight the hand holding even while fidgeting so maybe that was all Devyn should do. A simple okay left Zoe's lips and she even moved a little in the direction of the ride. "Okay...thanks." Devyn said with a small smile as she kept a hold of Zoe's hand and walked towards the ride with her. Keeping a hold of the tiger and since she was unsure of almost everything, she went for staying silent. Zoe did enjoy when they would have those small moments of silence when they would lay next to one another, so perhaps silence was for the best. Just speak when spoken to or if Zoe started to talk, that was Devyn plan even if it was a little odd for her, she would do it.

Thankfully the line for the ride was not long at all, and after two groups of people ahead of them were on, it was now their turn. Devyn hesitating for a moment, because she did have a small problem with stepping on these things since they did rock back and forth a little. Devyn knowing that they were pretty secure, but still part of her mind did not like the idea of it possibly break, falling, or causing them to get stuck. She got on it either way and sat down, waiting for Zoe to join her so the ride would start to move in its ever slow pace. "You can probably get some nice photos from up here." Devyn went ahead and risked talking, but only because it was about photos and Zoe loved photography so she felt like it was a safe topic to bring up.

They headed toward the fair, and Zoe tried to let her spirits raise with each passing step. They were at the fair, they were enjoying themselves; just enjoy it all. Zoe shifted her grip on Devyn's hand, feeling the comfortable, familiar contours and breathing deep.

The line proved another short respite. Zoe shifted toward the line, and was surprised to find that they were willing to let them take the tiger up with them. Zoe reached over and patted the animal, rubbing its head slightly. As was expected, her attachment to the toy grew with each passing second. It probably wouldn't be the same as her wolf or Pikachu, but it was at least something.

"I probably could," said Zoe. She looked around, smiling. "I wonder if they'd let me take my camera up here? I didn't think of doing it when I was here last time. I mostly just got pictures of people playing games. And the face painting," Zoe flushed. She'd been fascinating by the whole face-painting thing after all. She still wished that she could have some done to herself, but, well, she didn't see how it would be possible, not with a chance.

She tried to settle into the carriage and relax. Between Devyn and the stuffed toy, there was quite a lot there to distract her. Zoe didn't mind the soothing motion of the ride either. Smooth rides were quite splendid; it was only the fast ones that left her spinning.

Zoe's hand moved in how she was holding Devyn's but she didn't let it go and that was a very good sign. Devyn enjoying the hand holding and always did with Zoe, there was something so cute about it and even with the gloves there, Devyn could still feel the warmth of Zoe's body through them; even if Devyn was a lot warmer then Zoe. Devyn adjusted her shades while they waited in line, pleased that they allowed them to take the tiger on, but figured that no one had given them the problem of dropping one from their seat once they reached the top. Zoe gave the tigers head a pet. So she did like it, okay Devyn could relax a little more and stop thinking that she was doing everything wrong. She did make a mental note to try and get Zoe something smaller that she could carry around, something cute like a bunny or baby bear. Maybe one of those stuff animals that was also a backpack, so Zoe could have something else to carry her camera in.

That was just an idea, but Devyn did want to get something Zoe could wear, something to prove to the other girl that she was special to Devyn. That had been the condition of their relationship that Zoe had said to Devyn. Zoe didn't mind if Zoe needed to take care of her 'needs' but Zoe had to know that she was special, and that was what Devyn had to try and prove more to the other girl. "They probably would let you, if not you could try sneaking it on." Devyn pointe doubt after Zoe informed Devyn that she had not thought about it the other time she had been at the fair. Pointing out that she had been mainly taking pictures of people playing games and doing face painting. Devyn did wonder for a moment if Zoe would be up for face painting and how fun that would probably end up being and yet something else to take a photo of. Zoe needed some photos of herself enjoying things after all.

"Want to get our face painted after this? You should let me take some photos of you too." Devyn asked and then added, figuring that Zoe might be up for it at least a little bit. It was just face painting and a brush would be touching her skin. Plus she had the medicine stuff the Doc made for her so there should not have been anything to worry about too much. The ride was very enjoyable, Devyn wanting to pull Zoe close and to just kiss the other girl since he heart was pumping from the fact that they were getting higher up. She controlled herself however and just rubbed her thumb along Zoe's hand, sitting back and closing her eyes for a moment. Taking it all in and just enjoy the moment as it were right now. With Zoe, a girl she cared for so deeply that it scared her, but she wanted to do right by her. She just should not say anything until Zoe seemed to be more up for it.

"They probably would," agreed Zoe. She gathered a little more internal strength and confidence, adding a nod. "The school has me taking official pictures, after all, and the school has sponsored this," so it only made sense that they'd let her take the camera up with her. They didn't really seem to be that stringent on various items and whatnot. The tiger got to join Devyn and Zoe on the ride, and several other passengers appeared to have items too. There were a few warnings about making sure not to toss anything over, but Zoe didn't even consider that. Just thinking about it nearly made her feel mean.

The question drew her thoughts back to Devyn. Zoe actually turned to look at the other girl, before shaking her head, smiling sadly. "No, I'd better not. I do love it," she had gripped the bar, running her hands along it. One soon found Devyn's, fingers encircling while still resting upon it. "I just don't want someone to slip and accidentally get paralyzed or something." Zoe shifted though. Now that she stopped to consider it though, she did consider that the paint might actually work to help shield her power. Gloves worked, and she was fairly certain that various other things that got between her skin and someone else's worked wonders.

Still, it felt wrong to be selfish, especially for something like this. Best to just let it lie. Instead Zoe looked out, smiling as her eyes swept over the fair. "It just looks so happy, doesn't it? You wouldn't even know that we were attacked so recently...' Zoe trailed off, trembling a little. She still couldn't even think of the attacks without shivering. Plus, she was up here, alone with Devyn, and she couldn't help but think back to what had given her a panic attack. She looked over at Devyn, obviously wanting to trust her, but obviously absolutely terrified at the thought of doing so.

Devyn was pleased to hear her Zoe's tone seemed to be a little different than before, like she had some more confidence behind her words. She was even more pleased to hear that Zoe was basically doing some work for the school. "Then you for sure are going to get some shot of the fair from this high up and show them to me." Devyn pointed out and she did actually always enjoy the photos that Zoe took. They may have all been mostly black and white, but Zoe seemed to know just how to capture a photo just right that it didn't need color to get the vibe across or the location. "I'm going to have to figure out getting a job somehow since you seem like you are going to end up the big money maker." Devyn teased but also meant it since she did need to get other ways of obtaining money other than her mother and the checking account she would have access to on her eighteenth birthday.

Thinking about getting a job made her think if she wanted to live on campus when she turned eighteen and if maybe Zoe would like to join her in living in an apartment in town. Maybe that was probably best to save for when they were in or out of college; and if Zoe even still wanted to be with her by that time. Devyn felt weird to think about it, but she felt like she could see herself living someplace with Zoe. Zoe looked over at her and then shook her head about the whole getting their faces painted. Saying she better not even if she loved to. that just didn't make sense to Devyn, and while sure she understood Zoe's worry about the whole accidently paralyzing someone, she had that medication stuff. "I think you should still give it a go. It would be a brush touching your face and if they did touch you, you could give them that EpiPen thing. Put it to the test." Devyn said with a small shrug, not wanting to force it on Zoe but felt that if Zoe wanted to do it then she should.

"Plus with paint on your face won't it lessen the effects of your ability. When you put that lipstick on at prom and I kissed you I was able to kiss you longer." Devyn pointed out, not sure if Zoe remembered that little fact since she was drunk. Devyn remembered everything about that night; no way could she forget a single detail about it. Zoe was looking back over the fair and Devyn did the same, feeling her heart beat a little faster at seeing how high they were up. Yeah, she was pretty sure still that she was not afraid of heights, but just the idea of something bad happening and falling did concern her. She certainly felt like she was about to have an adrenaline rush, but then she felt Zoe's hand on her and the words that left Zoe. Looking over to her girlfriend and seeing her tremble as the words left her mouth, making Devyn feel bad.

"I promise I’ll keep you safe Zoe. Don't even think about stupid SPECTRE. They are never getting their hands on you again." Devyn said as she moved to put an arm around Zoe, going to pull her closer, just wanting to sort of half hold Zoe protectively. She also wanted to say the words that Zoe had said to her before, but she promised to not bring it up, she didn't want Zoe to panic and she wanted to keep her word. It just felt like it was hurting inside her to hold back the words. Fearing that if she didn't say them she was going to miss out on something good in her life. She bit her lip however, telling herself to just keep her word, instead squeezing Zoe's hand three times. Something that she did before but doubted Zoe even knew what it meant. It was the syllables of the words she wanted to say. I love you.

Zoe smiled at the suggestion and thought of getting pictures from this height. How beautiful they would look! And the poetry! Her mind already began spinning the verses, wrapping words about thoughts and drifting toward it, so much so that she only vaguely heard Devyn's tease about her being the money-maker. Like the fragile artist really made that much money: if she did, then Zoe would have considerably more clothing and possessions than she had now.

Truthfully, she wasn't even sure she could afford face-painting. Then again, Zoe supposed that Devyn would pay for it, especially as she continued talking about the benefits of it, mentioning the Antidote in an off-hand manner. Then again, Dr. Campbell had suggested that Zoe needed to feel comfortable with the device. Wouldn't do any of them any good if she just kept it. Still, to use it for something as selfish as face painting...

Zoe nearly sighed as Devyn brought it back around to kissing, turning and giving the other girl a slightly exasperated smile. That always came up with Devyn, and it worried Zoe. Yes, it was doubtless her way of showing affection. Like the arm she brought around Zoe's shoulder, and the little hand-squeezes. All of it was physical though and... Zoe just wondered and worried, as she always did.

"I don't think I can stop," admitted Zoe, turning to look over the carnival. "They attacked us, attacked me and..." she trailed off, feeling those hand squeezes again. Zoe squeezed back, moving to grip the stuffed tiger. The Ferris Wheel jerked to a stop as well, leaving them up there. Zoe looked out at the fair, still wishing for her camera. That would distract her from her gloomy thoughts.

Then again, all her thoughts were gloomy of late.

Even if Zoe was not making a lot of money, Devyn assumed she was getting paid something for when she would take photos of the school. So in that fact that at least Zoe had a job while Devyn just lived it up on the savings she had thanks to her dad and those years of course before going to BA. Still, maybe getting a summer job in the area could help out a little bit. Maybe then she really could take Zoe out on a shopping spree and pick herself up a few things. She needed socks; she always seemed to run low on socks. She swore that the dryer was eating them or something because everything she did laundry she had one less pair or sock then she had last time. So socks for her, some outfits for Zoe; probably like shirts and other girly things that Devyn personal would never wear, and some food. That was mainly what Devyn spent her money on, unless it was for like 'toys' but she had pretty much stop such purchases and left it to others to handle such matters if that was what they wanted.

Devyn would pay for Zoe to get her face painted, she had been pushing for it after all and she wanted to treat Zoe. Make up for the lack of asking her here in the first place and what not. Plus she did want to get it done as well, maybe she ask for like a dragon on the side of her face, or make it look like she got into a fight. Yeah, it had been a while since she had gotten her face painted so she might not have been thinking of it as the innocent childlike manner and more like the tattoos she got. Granted no of her tattoos were like skulls or cross bones, they were all pretty simple and her favorite was the bird on the back of her arm above the elbow. She would not keep pressing the matter if Zoe really didn't want to do it, but if they pass she would bring it up for sure. There was smile that Devyn was not sure if it was a good thing or not, well her gut was telling her it was mostly not the good kind of smile.

At least Zoe was not pulling away or telling Devyn to let her go, so that was good right? Damn it she was just so unsure right now. She had apparently left her confidence back on the ground and now that they were up here it felt like there was no way to get it back. Zoe spoke, admitting that she didn't think she could stop thinking about SPECTRE, they attacked the school, they attacked Zoe, and something else that Zoe's voice trailed off and did not complete. Zoe's squeezes back, Devyn even seeing her grip the tiger. The jerking of the Ferris Wheel seeming to have been the only thing that stopped Devyn some simply just...se didn't even know. Didn't even want to think about it as she moved to rest her head on Zoe's shoulder. "I'm sorry Zoe...I..." Devyn bit her lip to stop herself from going on a rant of sorts, Zoe probably didn't want to hear or deal with any of that. “I'll protect you with my life, Zoe...because I want to and..." Devyn took a deep breath as one of her hands slipped into her own hair and gave it a small tug.

"I do, love you." Devyn just went ahead and said it, feeling like holding it back anymore was just going to make her feel worse. It was low, but Zoe was right next to her so could probably hear her, if Zoe was paying attention. Devyn didn't know, she just knew she had to say it. Get it out of the way, out of her head, and passed her lips. Can't even fucking keep your promises... Devyn thought to herself as she half move to put her hands to herself. She told Zoe they would not talk about it, but she went on ahead and said it. Did that count as talking about it? Devyn hoped not because she was just tired...so tired of being the cause of any pain for Zoe. Or anyone for that matter.
