{AU} Why We Don't Fly Delta

Something was horribly wrong, that much was certain. Everyone was yelling and it felt like her stomach was plastering to the back of her. She didn't know what had happened and couldn't hear the pilot over the sheer chaos in the seats. She wanted to look out the window but a majority of her was too scared to take even a glimpse. All she knew was that it felt like they were spiraling down, down, dow-

Lynette woke with a start. Immediately she shut her eyes again and groaned as her eyes registered the sting from the blinding sunlight. Now that she thought about it, her whole body was beginning to register a sting all around. She also felt something gritty and hot against her back. Slowly- achingly- Lynette rolled to her side and hissed. Now that she was coming to her senses, she could recognize the feeling of sunburn.

”O-“

When she tried to speak she realized her throat was horribly dry. She was terribly dehydrated, and when she finally opened her eyes she had a clue why. She was on a beach, the lovely white sand disrupted by bits of debris from the plan. Her eyes widened and she tried getting to her feet. Her memory was still spotty with what happened, but she knew she’d been in some sort of crash. Where she was currently was a complete mystery. Finally she reached her feet and chanced a lot around. She didm;t want to believe she was the sole survivor, but then she saw a form washed up on the beach that looked like a person! Although it was hard considering how wobbly she felt, Lynette made her way over and practically fell to her knees beside them.

”He-“ She grimaced and tried to clear her throat. ”He-hello? C-Can you hear me?” She gently shook them and glanced around to spot two more forms on the beach before glancing back down at her current person. ”Oh please wake up!”

Bits of the crash kept flashing through Gabriel's mind as he lay unconscious on the sand. He was supposed to be headed towards a recruit's home. A dangerous telekinetic from the sounds of it and now here he was, lying cheek down on the sand in the middle of nowhere.

When Lynette shook him awake, his whole body reacted as his mind woke up and felt every ache and pain coursing through his body like fire. Groaning, he tried to push himself up but his body felt heavy. His hands curled around the sand and he tried opening his eyes.

"Why am I still alive?" He moaned, trying hard not to scream at the pain still rushing through him.

"Why am I still alive?”

Seeing him move and hearing Gabriel speak sent a wave of relief through Lynette. She wasn’t the only survivor! She almost felt like crying, but she didn’t have any more water in her to give up. Instead she smiled happily before helping Gabriel sit up better in the sand.

”I,” Her answer caught in her throat for a second, ”Don’t know.” She confessed. ”I don’t know how any of us survived that, but I’m so glad you did. I think others did too.”

Lynette gestured towards the other forms she’d spotted on the beach. She glanced back at Gabriel.

”Do you think you’re strong enough to walk? I can help.”

Whether or not she helped Gabriel walk, Lynette made her way over to check on the other two figures. It was hard getting up but once she got moving she could manage. She stopped at one person and stooped down again.

”Hello? Are you,” Lynette didn’t want to say it but knew she had to, ”Alive?”

“Ahhhhhhhh!” A shrill shriek pierced the scene as Elizabeth Fisher sat up bolt upright her facial expression being one of shock and dismay as she sat on the beach amidst the bodies and the debris that surrounded all of them, her face scurred up like she ate a lemon her eyes wide as she looked all around her eyes bugging out of her sockets in fright “Ahhhhhhh!” She screamed once again so very shrilly like she was on the verge of a panic attack “MY NAILS! THEY’RE RUINED! “ She screamed out in sheer fright and disbelief

“Oh and there’s sand in my hair” She wept running her hands through her hair “Oh this will never do. This will never do at all!” She muttered to herself unaware or not appreciating  that were probably many has died she has somehow miraculous survived with nary a scratch on her person

“Coo-ee!” Elizabeth shouted out “Coo-ee!” She called out to the two people that seem to be moving in the distance “Would one of happen to have a spare fur coat?”

This was not supposed to happen; something must have gone wrong for things to end up like this. All Devyn was doing was taking a stupid plane to visit her mother who had recently relocated. Why she was choosing to visit her mom over staying at home with her wife was because Vera was busy and her mom actually sounded pretty upset over the phone. They had their difference but it was hard for Dev to just outright ignore the women, even if now it seemed like that was how things were going to turn out. Things happened so fast and Devyn managed to use her power to at least protect herself and maybe a few others that were close by to the shadows she pulled towards her to take on her other form.

However at some point she ended up passing out which lead to her form turning back to a human as she lay their unconscious on the beach after having been washed assure. She wanted to move, to get up but she just felt so drained from the way the sun was beating down on her. This was when it sucked to have power over shadows when the sun was not only your friend for the shadows it created but an enemy because it just drained you. She didn’t know if others were alive, all she knew was that she needed to be on her guard and figure out where she was and a way back home.

That was why when the women stooped down next to her, Dev could not help but to lunge out in an attempt to tackle the other women to the ground and let out a deep growl. That would only be for a moment because she would soon realize she was dealing with a person that had to have been in the crash. "S...sorry." Dev muttered out as she lifted a hand up to cover her eyes, wincing once the pain in her body fully registered. No doubt she had bruised her ribs and likely sprained her ankle from the whole crash. The sound of someone yelling off in the distance had her motioning for the ones that had come to her to move along.

The woman's offer to help was met with a quiet shake of the head as Gabriel lay still on the sand. He wondered briefly how many actually survived. But why did they survive? How did they survive?

He didn't know what on his body was injured but he knew something wasn't working anymore. It was times like these that he felt his abilities were just so damn useless.

When the woman went away, he heard someone yelling something incoherent but he paid no mind to it as he tried to push himself up. When he did, a searing pain ran up his right leg, causing him to throw up at the sheer pain.

When the women stooped down next to her, Dev could not help but to lunge out in an attempt to tackle the other women to the ground and let out a deep growl.

Lynette yelped and fell backwards onto the sand. She was already shaky enough, but the sudden lunge sent her heart into a rapid rhythm.

"S...sorry.”

Once the girl froze, Lynette’s heart rate began it’s slow descent back to normal. She opened her mouth to assure the girl it was fine, but then the sound of someone screaming drew Lynette’s attention. She had no idea what the person was saying from this distance, but from the flailing she appeared to be having a panic attack of some sort. She glanced back at Devyn.

”Can you w-“

Her sentence was once again cut off when she heard the sound of someone heaving. Her head spun and her eyes grew wide once she noticed Gabriel throwing up.

”Gabriel!”

Lynette struggled to her feet and shot a glance back at Devyn.

”If you can walk, could you please check on the other girl?” She asked before hurrying over to Gabriel. ”Gabriel what happened?!”

When the redhead came back to him, Gabriel was still heaving. It took him awhile to recover and when he did, he was as pale as a sheet. He collapsed on to his back, trying to breathe.

"Something's wrong with my leg." He said when he caught his breath. He couldn't see but his leg from the knee down was clean off it's socket. His pant leg was caked with dried blood.

”Oh god.”

Lynette paused as Gabriel heaved and only stooped next to him once he’d stopped. He looked awful, and Lynette was afraid he might pass out at any moment. She’d learned enough about throwing up to tilt his head to the side slightly incase he started again. The last thing Lynette wanted as for Gabriel to choke to death.

"Something's wrong with my leg.”

It only took a single glance for Lynette to deduce that his leg was most likely broken or at least something along those lines. She grimaced and looked back at Gabriel.

”It’s most likely broken from the,” She hesitated, ”The crash. I could try maybe,” She glanced over at the trees and general vegetation further on the island, ”Making a brace of a sort for your leg? It’s all I can think of right now.”
