Drew didn't have any desire, whatsoever to actually speak to Elizabeth Fisher. Ever. He'd seen her on TV, heard her on radio, read her accounts of what she would do if she became mayor and the bigoted filth toward mutant kind she seemed to think was okay. But, as a primary, and late coming, opponent of hers he felt it would be at least cordial to tell her of his intent to run against her in person. Drew didn't think he could stand to be in the same room with her just yet so a polite phone call would have to do.
"Miss Fisher." He said once the other line had picked up. "It's Drew Conner, I was hoping to speak with you about the upcoming mayoral election."

Elizabeth was ever so happy to pick up the phone and discuss things with the high class of the Bellefonte society, so of course She answered the phone with a slight high pitched thrill of hello followed by a welcoming coo “Oh, Hello there! Connor. Connor...yes I know that name. It seems everywhere I go your name crops up...What can I help you with?”

"Your name is one on everyone's lips as well." Drew replied with a faint nod, even though she couldn't see. There was only professional courtesy to be found in his voice. Drew didn't like Elizabeth in spite of never having met her and he doubted he ever would. He dispensed with the small talk and immediately presented his business. "I was just doing my due diligence in informing you personally that I'll be running against you in the upcoming election."

Oh hush, do go on” She said with a small smile unable to surprise how much she’s enjoying the fact that she’s been pushed into the lime light. Of course she was being nice to him up until a point she was aware of Drews…...Problem, but THEY dealt in violence. While Elizabeth didn’t need to shout or attack, no she was simply happy in the quiet knowledge that she was right.
Howeve, the moment Drew announced why he was calling, her smile ended rather abruptly. her heart stopped in her chest...Did he just….no.. no he couldn’t have
“I’m so sorry about this...There seems to be a faulty wire on your line but..heh...it ALMOST sounded like you said...this is so silly..that you were running against me” Elizabeth let out a little tidder as if the idea was insane

A thin smirk touched Drew's lips as he caught the faint shift in tone that followed the brief moment of silence that spoke volumes. Thanks to his power he took in every subtle inflection in Elizabeth's voice and that she'd so obviously been thrown off was, even Drew would never admit it, satisfying.
"No, no faulty wires." He replied. "My candidacy is official. It looks like we'll be opponents in the coming months. I hope you have a campaign strategy other than one built on intolerance and hate."

Strange. At that very moment, Elizabeth had a strange urge to throw her phone with all her strength at the nearby wall and then stomp it over and over again with her foot. How dare he. HOW DARE HE, TRY TO TAKE AWAY HER MOMENT. SHE EARNED THIS. SHE HAS BEEN WORKING HER FINGERS TO THE BONE AND NOW THIS...THIS...FREAK THINKS HE CAN JUST-
Elizabeth closes her eyes for a moment, inhaling inward and deeply before breathing slowly outward. Once the eyes were open again you could hardly tell she had slipped at all.
Or in fact that there was a vain in her forehead pulsing.
“Well. Drew. I can call you Drew can’t I? I’m afraid it’s not as easy as that’s, there’s quite a number of paper work to think of, -I’ve filed months in advance, Signatures...money...and the deadline is...well in a week. Have you REALLY thought this true?”

Drew could nearly feel the anger emanating from the phone. It wasn't professional or mature but he couldn't deny the simple pleasure he got from getting this sort of reaction out of Elizabeth.
"No." He said curtly. There would be no niceties between them. As far as Drew was concerned they were bitter enemies. "Mister Conner works just fine."
"I hope you don't think you can intimidate me with the monumental task of paperwork and money, Miss Fisher." That, alone, was nearly laugh worthy. "If you knew anything about me you'd already be well aware I don't do anything without meticulous planning and preparation."
Drew paused, but only for a moment. "And if you think the mutant community is going to sit back and idly watch as you spread your bigoted, ignorant lies all over TV and the radio then you're sorely mistaken."

“Oh, Well. If you insist!” Elizabeth said in a sing song voice already returning to her, despite the momentary lapse, she had the candor of a presenter for a tv program aimed at very young children, and she was trying to explain to them the concept of the color blue. “How very formal”
“Oh no no..” she tutted “I’m not trying to intimidate you, I’m just concerned because I would so HATE to see you miss out on a technicality. I’m RELISHING the thought of competition, This is just going to be so much fun!
“I don’t deal in Lies Mr. Connor, I just say what’s clear for everyone to see, I’m the best friend the mutant community has because I love you enough to tell you the truth

No, Drew didn't believe he'd ever be anything other than formal with Elizabeth. She wasn't the type of person he felt deserved anything more. He was keeping up his professional demeanor simply because it would be uncouth for him to unload everything he truly thought about this woman.
"Truths?" Drew said almost incredulously. He could stomach her cheerfully delivered lies about relishing competition but this was on an entirely different level. "In recent months we've seen a massive spike in violence against meta-humans while incidents of violence on humans perpetrated by mutants remain all but non-existent. Explain to me who, exactly, is the danger to whom."

“Oh certainly” Elizabeth thrilled not missing a single beat “Would you like to start with the mutant attack on the government? Or the shooting at your school? Or maybe even when you set fire to your own school. Your own place. If you’re don’t have respect enough to keep that place set, how are NORMAL people ever meant to trust you with the entire town?
Post by Drew Conner on Feb 12, 2016 2:42:48 GMT -6
Drew's brow quirked. Elizabeth, apparently, played hardball. "The shooting at the school was perpetrated by a non-mutant sector of the government run by a fanatic who shared many of your ideals." Drew shot back quickly, even though his tone remained flat and even. Elizabeth wasn't worth his anger. "Is that your next step?" He accused. "Would you start executing us?"

“ Ah. You’re not talking about the fire or the government attack” She said with a slight tone of victory in her voice before the last part silenced her quite effectively “...Why, Drew. I have to be honest, I find that….VERY hurtful that you would say something like that. Is that the best you think of me? I’m afraid this turning to harassment”

"I'm merely curious as to what you would, ultimately, do with us if you were given the chance." Drew replied calmly. He wasn't going to take the bait and lose his cool. "Surely you're not content with being the mayor of some small city in the Midwestern United States. You're a driven woman, Miss Fisher. I'm curious as to what your endgame is."

A brief smile came to her face as she listened to the question, as was always the case when she was given the chance to speak about her policies “Funny. I was going to ask you the very same thing. I’d be concerned what’ll happen to the AMA if a MUTANT gets in power

Drew chuckled softly as he leaned back, bringing his feet up to prop on his desk. "Equality, not superiority." He said plainly. "We only want to be afforded the same, basic civil rights as everyone else."
