"Well," Regan said, pulling his suitcase into the room, "new home sweet home."
Excitement flowed through him. From the first moment he'd heard about this place he'd been itching to see his new home, and he was finally here. He could barely contain himself. He walked over to one of the unoccupied best and hauled his suitcase onto it, doing a slow turn to take it in.
It was perfect.
He'd been hoping his new roommates would be here, but no such luck. Oh well. He'd meet them soon enough.
He glanced at the door and noticed that his brother hadn't yet taken a step inside. "Cole? Come on. Come inside!"
Cole let out a sigh and carefully walked into the room. He looked afraid the place was going to cave in on him, Regan thought with a grimace. He walked over and took his hand. "Come on, Cole... at least try and be happy about this."
"I am happy," Cole replied unconvincingly.
"No you're not," Regan retorted.
"I am too! I just..." Cole sighed. "I dunno..."
He was still standing in the doorway with his suitcase. Regan sighed and went to collect his suitcase. "Look, I know what you're thinking--"
"No, don't," said Cole. "It's nice. I like it. I just miss Arianna, that's all."
Regan hauled Cole's suitcase onto the dresser. "Miss her?? She just dropped us off an hour ago!"
"I know..."
Regan bit his lip, walking back to Cole's side. He put his hands reassuringly on his brother's shoulders. "Look... I know how you feel. I'm scared too. But she isn't too far away, and this'll give us a chance to meet new people. People like us!"
"Freaks like us," Cole added with a slight grin.
"Exactly!" Regan chuckled. "You'll see. It'll be awesome."
"You really think so?"
"I know so."
After a moment, Cole nodded. Regan smiled. "Look, why don't you go take a walk and explore a bit? I'll get us unpacked and stuff. Okay?"
Cole nodded, looking relieved. "A-alright."
Regan clapped his shoulder and watched as he turned and left the room, hands stuffed in his pockets. He allowed himself another sigh. Selling Cole on this place had taken a bit of work, but Arianna sure thought it was for the best... Cole would come around. Eventually. He hoped.
He looked at the suitcases again. I could unpack, he thought, or I could be a lazy ass and flop on the bed.
He considered this for a moment.
I like option 2, he decided, and threw himself down onto the mattress with a contented sigh. He was here, he was ready, they were starting a whole new game. And life was good.
