Since at a very young age, Poppy Lockwood never had much friends. Whilst the girl grew, the social circle did not. It remained as little as ever.
Therefore, to get her mind off that irritating fact, especially since she came into her adolescence years where friends were basically everything and if one did not have any then something was apparently definitely wrong, Poppy buried herself into the works of fiction. Her cat was another story.
She had grown to love how just some words printed on paper could move her so much.
Walking into the school's library that afternoon, she thought of browsing for any interesting titles. She was back in the academy even though classes had not started yet. So she planned to spend the spare time looking for her next read.
Before she did any browsing however, something someone caught her eye. That said person was hanging on the wall reading a book. Intriguing. Poppy walked closer to the girl and called out as quietly as she could. "How's the place up there? Good reading spot?"
She was engrossed in a book in the library. When she'd walked in, she'd found the section with her favourite author, picked up the next book in the series about people who gained the powers of wolves and then she'd perched herself on the wall. Next thing she knew, someone was addressing her. Oh and she was on page 150, but that wasn't really unusual she was a fast reader. She looked up from her book and went to wave. And then she realized she had a book in her hands and gave a squeak before automatically shooting a web to catch the book and bring it back to her.
"God DAMMIT I lost my place. But hey. And I like it. Who're you?"

Her head had been tilted upwards as she addressed the other girl. So the book crashing towards her looked closer than it really was. Putting her hands up as a shield, she waited for the smack on the face. Who knew why she did not just move aside and avoid the pain.
UnFortunately, it never came.
Lowering her hands, Poppy stared at the book in midair. It was hanging by something that looked like a string. When recognition hit her, a grin split the brunette's face.
She shot the other girl an amused look. "Just a reader searching for the next book to satisfy her masochist heart. What about you, Spidey?"
The girl hadn't moved out of the way. The book would've hit her. Kara knew it was just a paperback but the girl didn't so was the girl's subconscious just slow? Maybe. Then she saw the moment the girl realized what had stopped the book. Kara grinned at the nickname.
"It's Kara. And reading the book because between you and I...well I destroyed a book I borrowed a while back and managed to get out of the fee with an excuse so now the librarians hate me. Hence my reading the books so they don't actually have to leave the library. Where there's a will there's a way. 'Course I don't know a single guy named Will but that's besides the point."

The girl on the ground chuckled. "Yeah? What lame excuse did you use?" She crossed her arms as she questioned with a wondering tone.
As far as Poppy knew, the librarians were strict and she could not imagine someone getting out of paying the fee. Especially if the book was so badly damaged and enough to make the librarians hate her. Either that or they hated her because Kara got out of paying the fine.
Despite the not that funny joke, Poppy liked the girl's dry humor. "I know a Will. Charming, always had a way with words and people. He's dead though," the nineteen year old said with a shrug and a smile.
"So, Kara, do you always read up there? Or is this just a one time thing?"
"That my powers stuck the pages together and because I wasn't in control of them I shouldn't be held financially responsible." She shrugged.
"It worked, but now they hate me because I got away with it. And no I don't always read up here, but it's a comfy spot and it allows me to practice my powers too. So really it's a winner all around, right? Also, my condolences about your Will. Hope he left a will." SHE HAD TO THE JOKE WAS JUST, LIKE, SITTING RIGHT THERE WAITING TO BE USED.

"Ah, I see you used the I'm not in control of my power card," said Poppy and she nodded in respect. It was not the best card among the teachers but it sure as hell did the trick when it needed to. And Kara confirmed her second thought.
Poppy liked how the other girl thinks and Spidey seemed like a cool person. Especially after she made that little joke which got a laugh to escape from the nineteen year old's lips.
"Okay, alright. I love you for doing that. But yeah, err no. Will didn't leave a will. At least I don't remember if he did...It's been a long time since I've read the books," she pointed out with a shrug. So Will was a fictional character. Poppy liked them more than most people she met everyday.
"I got a question for you Spidey. Can you like shoot webs from buildings to buildings like Spiderman?"
"Hey if I have a card I might as well use it, right?" Her grin came easily and she shrugged. Then the girl mentioned that she'd loved the joke, and then that the person had been a book character and Kara gave a sigh of relief.
"Oh shit I am so glad he was fictional and you liked the joke. It was irresistible to make the joke but oh man I felt so bad about the fact I might be joking about a dead relative. I would've felt totally crappy, trust me. Especially since an alarming number of people at this academy have lost someone close, or been abused or...I don't know numerous other possibilities." She laughed nervously.
"And I totally understand about book characters. The last time I lost a favourite character of mine, I pretty much threw the book at the wall. Only I grabbed it with my web at the last second. It MIGHT have been a library book. Of course some good that did me when I lost that privilege anyways." And then the girl used the nickname again and she chuckled at the question.
"I might be able to, but I haven't exactly tried. Jumping out of a something story building window isn't the first thing that comes to mind for a normal person when they get powers." She grinned.
"I don't have super strength, so if I could it would depend on if I could pull my own weight, or if there was some kind of momentum or something. My turn for a question: what's your name? Or do I just have to call you Mary Jane, or maybe J Jonah for your interest in my powers."

The nineteen year old saw the relief on the girl's face as she informed her Will was a fictional character. What Kara said was true. The school was filled with a number of people with some dark back story. "Well I have no terrifying past or anything. Unless you consider having a cat for a best friend since a young age then," she said and shrugged to finish off her sentence. "Anyway, you don't have worry with me. My life before the academy was as normal as any. No traggedies really." She grew up in a loving home. It was all alright.
At the mention of the book, Poppy chuckled. "I can't tell you enough how many of my favorite fictional characters have died. There was Finnick, Sebastian, Enzo, Max..." She rattled a few more names as she remembered the ache her heart experienced. Some deaths, she could not just get over it easily. Even if they were just words printed on paper. "Sorry. But I get it. Like why for the love of god do the authors love killing off the loveable ones?!" The girl groaned.
Before she could ask Kara to try jumping off buildings one day, the other girl explained further about her ability. And fired a question at her. "Mary Jane works but it'd be an insult to do so because I don't have her gorgeous ginger hair." The brunette flipped her hair playfully. "It's Poppy. So Spidey, let's go jump off buildings or something and test that power of yours. Come on, I dare you."
"A cat does not terrifying past make. Unless you have a cat allergy I guess...then...maybe." She arched an eyebrow, thinking on that for longer than she probably should've. When the girl said about loveable characters dying, Kara nodded, putting a hand on her forehead.
"Oh no kidding. Don't even get me started. Finnick...hell, if you get upset by character deaths don't read Allegiant. That book destroyed me." She shook her head sombrely. She hadn't been able to continue that series because she'd lost heart. And then the girl supplied her name, but not before a joke about Mary Jane's hair. Kara grinned. Jump off buildings? She was kind of hesitant, and then the girl dared her.
"Just...shorter buildings, right? I don't want to die. Wait what's your power again?" She knew Poppy hadn't said her power, but again was a very nice way to put it she thought.

She shook her head to say she did not have a cat allergy. Now that would just be horrible. Coca Cola was a huge part in her life and to not be able to cuddle her pet as much as she liked to was not fair.
The bookworm part of Poppy kind of expected the other girl to mention Allegiant. It was one of the bestsellers in its year. "Well, that's a bit too late. I've read the book though don't get me wrong, it was one hell of a series. But Tris' death did not give me that much feels ya know? On the other hand, Uriah's death... Now that was painful."
As she suggested to jump off buildings, the girl saw the grin on Kara's face. Then she asked about her power and Poppy knew she had deliberately not supplied that information yet. "Come on, lets go to the roof. I'll show you there."
With that, she turned around and walked out of the library. Before exiting, she paused by the door to see if Spidey had followed her.
"Well that isn't the same for me. Tris' death destroyed me. I mean, who kills off the main character. I so wanted that jerk Caleb to die instead. All while I was reading it I was expecting a plot twist so that she was still alive, and...no." She sighed shaking her head. And then the girl refused to tell the power, instead saying she would show Kara on a rooftop. Kara followed the seemingly daredevil bookworm rather cautiously.
"If I die, it's all on you. Because unlike some of these poor sods at the academy, my parents would miss me. Go figure." She shrugged.

Poppy smiled as the other girl followed her. Now that was more like it. So the two strangers made their way to the school's rooftop. It was midday and the weather was just nice to be out in the open.
When Kara mentioned about dying, it got a laugh out of the nineteen year old. "Same here. But if you think I can revive you with my powers, you're waaaaay far off, Spidey. Though I think I can help you not fall and die...or something," she replied nonchalantly before breaking off into a run to the far edge of the roof.
"Are you ready?!" She shouted out to Kara. Poppy was very excited to see if the girl could pull it off. She focused her eyes on Kara, in case she ever needed to use her power on the girl.
"Wait...RIGHT NOW? Nope nuh-huh no way." Kara crossed her arms and shook her head, her eyebrows arched.
"Not without knowing what the hell your power is. If I'm going to put my faith in it, I need to know what the hell it is. No ifs ands or buts. Not even butts could get me off there." There was no bloody way she was taking her life into her hands. Not without knowing what this girl could do. Even then she might not. Kara wasn't one of those reckless adrenaline junkies...sometimes she was an adrenaline junkie but not reckless.
"You know how Tris jumped off a train? Yeah that kind of trust is not something you're getting from this girl."

Poppy doubled over laughing out loud. With her arms crossed, shaking her head and complaining, the Spider girl reminded her of a little kid sulking because they did not want the wanted. In a way, Kara did not get what she thought was coming.
So okay, the plan was a littke reckless, the nineteen year old admitted to herself. And maybe stupid. Or a lot stupid. The girl's life was at stakes. So Poppy accepted her reluctance.
"I see you're not the ever Dauntless, huh?" She shouted from across the roof. The wind was blowing their way. Glancing to the bottom of the building, Poppy took a deep breath and hopped onto the ledge. "Remember the Dauntless first initiation test?" She said with a wide grin as she faced Kara.
Trusting herself and her power, she took a step back and fall. But almost immediately then her power kicked in and instead of going down towards the gravitational pull, the girl was floating in mid air.
