Blair had been having a pretty shitty day. No worse than usual but it still sucked nonetheless. Her solution? A good movie. That always seemed to help--watching fictional characters fix their problems and get their life together could be motivating if not slightly depressing in comparism. But she was an optimistic person. That was why she was at the Mall, trying to find something to rent for the night. Hah, another night to spend watching movies alone. Sounded like fun.
But she could not seem to be able to choose a particular one. Blowing the hair out of her eyes, she looked up. Blue eyes scanned the store for snag her attention. Maybe a change of genre would help. Stepping into the aisle of animated movies, she found someone else already browsing through. An adult looking through animated movies? Well, young adult but still, that was something one did not see everyday. She sighed. If she could not solve her own problems, maybe she could help another person with their's. She needed to work on her people skills anyway, Stuffing her hands into her sweater, she plastered on a smile and walked up to Kirk Morrowik. "Hi there. Need a recommendation?"

Which one should I choose? Are you seriously asking me this? Yes. I need help deciding. I don't give a shit what you pick. Andy, the less you help me the longer I'll take to get out of here. Then just grab all the movies and go!
Surprise dawned as Kirk seriously considered Andy's words for once. He had actually made a good bit of sense with that comment. Eyes looked and movies held as Kirk sorted through the different ones with a slight frown.
I'm not sure how much money I brought though.... Oh for fuck's sake!
However, ears caught and head turned as someone else was near him and asked him a question.
Thank you!
Andy ignored and offered considered, Kirk glanced back at the movies before giving the girl a slow nod, smiling a little sheepishly at her. He'd take all the help he could get, considering Andy wasn't much right then.

Blair stayed silent for a moment, waiting for him to say something--people often did, she had found out recently. But he did not. A nod and a slight smile. That was it? She was hoping for a little something to go by--a gist of what he was looking for. No such luck, she supposed. He did not even go by the social protocol of introducing oneself.
Turning on her heel, she looked at their options. A number of new movies were available but there was a selection of old ones from earlier in the century and before--and so many genres. She needed to narrow this down. "So what's the occasion, stranger?" She turned her head to look at him--it was polite to look at the people one talked to. "Got a kid back home or something? I do not usually see "grown-ups" in this section unless so."

Eyes caught the slight confusion on the girl's face. Kirk had a feeling she was wondering why he didn't say anything.
It always sticks when I've got to go through the whole 'I'm mute' thing. Well what the hell did you expect? Not everyone knows sign language, dimwit. Yeah but still. Does everyone just talk a ton? Is it that strange I don't talk? I'm sure there's got to be some people who don't chat so much. Kirk, most people at least make a noise in greeting. You can even do that.
A slight frown and Andy ignored, Kirk hated the fact that he was right. Eyes returned as the girl was asking him a question. Panic grew and thoughts grabbed as Kirk tried to think of a way to respond without using his powers.
Shit, umm.... Oh!
Idea came and pockets searched before Kirk found his phone and pulled it out. Fingers flew and message made, he showed it to the girl.
No occasion. Just wanted to watch some movies. And I don't have kids. Also I'm a mute.
Last part added after a brief thought, Kirk smiled a bit sheepishly at how ridiculous he must look.

When the boy pulled put his phone and started typing, Blair had thought he was ignoring her. Rude. But then he showed her the screen. She immediately felt sheepish too for not even considering the possibility. "Oh." She looked back at him as her cheeks warmed. Mute... So he could still hear her, but answering would require another method. She had never met a mute--or a deafie or a blind person, for that matter--face to face and wondered if he knew sign language.
That would probably be the easiest way to communicate. She remembered getting addicted to a show which featured the deaf community, and then proceeded to attempt to learn sign language--the trial was rudely interrupted by teen drama. So she dropped it. Shame. It would have come in handy right about now. Who would have thought? The girl rummaged through her brain for anything she might remember.
Clearing her throat awkwardly, she realized she had been staring. Now that was rude. "I'm Blair." She lifted a hand and signed it out--B-L-A-I-R. Rarely did people spell it as "Blare" but it happens. "Sorry." She made a gesture on her chest. "If I seemed rude..."

Eyes caught Blair's expression as she seemed to turn sheepish from reading the phone. She blushed, probably from not even thinking of him being mute as a possibility.
Well no shit. Who would know? Shut up, Andy. Whatever idiot.
A slight frown and Andy once again ignored, Kirk focused back on the girl as she clear her throat and seemed to look embarrassed. She introduced herself as Blair, and then signed out her name. Shock burst and jaw dropped before Kirk's face lit up in a goofy smile and he signed back. "K-I-R-K" Excitement grown, Kirk shook his head and gestured. "It's alright. You didn't know."

Kirk. Now they were getting somewhere. What he signed next was almost lost to her--but she recognized the sign for "don't know" so she got the gist of it. She laughed a little. "Uhm, the alphabet is pretty much all I know--and a bit more." Rolling her blue eyes at herself, she added, "Picked it up from some show I used to watch."
She looked back at the DVDs available and one in particular caught her eye. She picked up How To Train Your Dragon--a story about a boy who developed a friendship with a dragon despite the language and species barrier. Kind of fitting. She showed it to Kirk. "It's an old one but I loved it. Nothing like the books," she paused to shrug, "but a great movie nonetheless--CGI, score, plot... Have you watched it?"

Ears caught and face feel a little as Kirk realized she wouldn't be able to read all of his signs. He was still impressed that she had picked it up from some random show though. Hands moved, he gave her a thumbs up combined with a goofy smile before dropping his hands.
Eyes watched as the girl looked through the movies, and kirk looked along with her. Head turned when she spoke again, and eyes trained on the movie in her hand. Expression brightened, Kirk reached forward and took the movie while nodding. Kirk had seen the movie a few times already, but he loved it dearly. It would be no trouble for him to watch it again.
Hands moved, Kirk signed out: "G-O-O-D M-O-V-I-E" As he smiled widely.

Blair smiled and signed out a "yes". "It is!" She found it nice that someone else still remembered it--it had been over half a decade. The film series had been her favourite since the first movie came out, never getting tired of watching it. Despite the anger at it for diverting from the book, she enjoyed it. Admittedly, she cried during a number of scenes too. "It is one of my favourites--so naturally I would recommend it."
She chuckled a little at wide grin on Kirk's face. So sincere. Pretty dorky for an adult. She supposed her job was done--she offered to give a suggestion and she had. But she felt like talking so she hoped he did not think she was annoying. "What about you, mate? Favourites... preferences...?"
