Roxana had heard form Vera recently that there was a girl by the name of Selina Taylor that had an interest on the squad. Or it could have been someone else and that Selina's name had just come up in the conversation. Roxana was not one hundred percent sure due to her mind having been distracted with late. With how her one confession had gone and how the other had yet to happen, she was in a bit of a rut. Or less of a rut and still in a state of confusion as she had been before she left for home to handle some business.

On top of that all there was also the fact that some of that business had made its way onto BA grounds. In other words, there was a lot on her mind and schedule that was causing some level of stress to build up. Yet, she was not going to let it get in the way of one of her many jobs and thus she had contacted Selina via email and told the girl to meet her at the Arena. That way she could confirm if this girl was actually interested in being on security, giving her the test if she was, and just getting to know this girl that Vera had spoken about.

While Rox and Vera were not the best of friends and Rox was pretty sure Vera was still on the fence about her, she had a level of respect for the other girl. She knew the things Vera had gone through and how she worked hard at their job. Rox was normally indifferent to others getting into relationships but due to recent events that had changed. She could at least say she was...happy for Vera for finding someone that was just as mess up as she was.

Perhaps that was not the best way to say it. "Hello, Selina, correct?" Roxana asked as she saw the other girl approaching. Of course she knew it was her, but she had to play the role.

    Selina nodded to the beauty who’d spoken, “Yes, and you must be Rox,” she replied with a smile. She still wasn’t one hundred percent sure about this whole security thing, as she already had a job that she was considering, but she was definitely interested. Selina was one to consider all of her alternatives and she never really liked feeling of depending solely on one option. Besides, both of these jobs were in the same type of field and she was curious about security in general, as she was heavily considering making that her focus while in college so she could get a job in the field after she graduated.


    This was more of an informational thing for Selina though. She mainly wanted to see what would be expected, so she could figure out whether or not she would have the time and energy for it, but she also wanted to see what being legitimately employed could look like. Part of her longed for a traditional way to contribute to the society that likely hated her. Selina almost shook her head at her negative train of thought and decided to focus on the positive. Meeting the other member of the school’s security team and building rapport with potential colleagues was always important as well.


    “Thanks for the email, I’m glad we could meet up like this,” she admitted. Roxana seemed like someone Selina would be interested in regardless, as she always appreciated being able to meet others interested in self-defense and security. This was going to be a good thing, either way. Selina was tired of being so cynical to some degree. Part of her just wanted to forget the conflict and the realities that constantly kept her on edge. Focus on something normal. Whatever normal actually meant, she wasn’t sure, but a large part of her felt like it would be desirable.

"I am. Well that is one of my nicknames but I am fine with you calling me that." Roxana assured her. She didn't mind that people called her Rox, it was what most people knew her by do to those on the security teams and squads being 'close' enough to her that they felt using one of her nicknames worked. Not that she was overly concerned or even thinking about it at the moment as she looked over the other girl. Not in a checking her out way, but more of sizing her up, and taking in information just by the way the girl looked and carried herself.

She had already heard a little bit about Selina from Vera but this was her first time meeting the girl face to face. Vera had told her of the girl’s abilities a little bit of what she thought of the girl, and of course that Selina had expressed some interests on possibly joining the squad or being a security intern. While what Vera had said about the girl being pleasant to look at, Rox could also agree but it was not like she was going to be staring or thinking about anything unprofessional in this situation. Unless the other girl did something that would cause her to assume that was something she wanted but she was guessing that it was not.

"No problem. Vera spoke highly of you and wanted me to meet you in person." Roxana said back with a slight nod as she approached the girl a little more. Yes, she could see several things that Vera had pointed out to her, but she still wanted to ask a few things and see a few other things for herself. "Vera told me that you had some interest in what we do. Is that still true? If so, would you mind showing me your ability?" Roxana went ahead and asked, getting right to business.

    Selina nodded and smiled at her, “Sorry, is Roxana better? I’d just heard about you, and that was the name they used. Whichever name you prefer is what I’ll call you by,” she offered. Selina always respected the names people chose for themselves, and she merely hadn’t been sure what Roxana typically went by. Some people liked nicknames better than others. Selina glanced over Roxana in turn and was positive the girl would prove to be a challenge to any who tried her.


    Selina was surprised to hear that Vera had spoken so well of her. She’d liked the woman quite a bit, but it was always nice to hear that the people you respected thought well of you too. Selina nodded in answer to Roxana’s question, “Yes, I’m very interested. I’m thinking about eventually going into private security for a living, so I thought this would be a good place to get some experience,” she explained. Selina smiled at Roxana’s second question, “Sure. I’m a black belt in Aikido, and have just started learning karate. Is there anything specific you want to see?” She greatly appreciated Roxana's practicality and ability to get straight to the point.


    Vera had wanted a sparring match, and Selina absently wondered if that was what Roxana would want as well. Selina was up for anything, but she paused as a thought nagged at the back of her head, “Did you want to see anything regarding abilities with my mutation or no?” she asked, almost hesitantly. Selina never liked to use her powers aggressively unless it was self-defense. Sometimes she’d slipped up in the heat of the moment, but she was working hard now on controlling her more automatic reactions. She had no desire to end up in any more sticky situations, and she was determined to be able to control her own emotions well enough to control her own power as well.

"As I said, I'm fine with you calling me Rox. Not many people call me by it, so it was just interesting enough for me to point it out. Well, Vera does call me it among a few other nicknames but she is one of the few bold people who do so." Roxana said. She probably should not have bothered saying her actual name since she honestly didn't mind if Selina called her by Rox or not. It was just something she was not used to being called by except by a very small handful of people. Then again, that very small handful was also her only friends so perhaps that was why. She noted it down to think about later since it didn't really matter at this moment and time when she had other matter to deal with.

Roxana nodded and listened as Selina explained that she was interested and what she wanted to do for her line of work in the future. If only the other girl knew that was sort of what Roxana did, but of course Rox would never tell her that. She just officially met the girl and would certainly be looking into her now that the girl was possibly going to be working with them. Rox already knew a few things from the whispers and rumors and so far most of them had been true but she reserved judgement on those things since again they didn't matter at the moment.

"Good that you have some sort of idea at your age and if you do end up working with us, it would certainly be great for your resume and likely land you a job when you are done with college." Roxana informed her as she made another mental note while writing something else down on the paper she had with her. She already had the information on the other girl being a black belt, which of course was also useful in this line of work. "I would like to see what you are capable with both your body and power, working together as one." Roxana responded back to Selina's question.

It was very important that a person on the squad and especially apart of security had a decent amount of control over their power and could use it well with what their body was trained or could do. All of it had to work well together but also well separate, but Rox could easily tell how a person's abilities worked separate once she seen them work together. Roxana gestured at the large container of water a few feet away from them at Selina’s question. "I would, yes. If you would like to go up against dummies, that is perfectly fine. However; if you are comfortable with it, I would not mind being your opponent." Roxana informed the other girl. It was all her choice and Rox honestly was fine with 'the test' being done in either method.

    Selina grinned, “Alright then, Rox it is.” Selina liked the girl already, but she also withheld her judgment as she always did until she knew Rox better. So many people that had made good first impressions on her had ended up screwing her over in one form or another that she’d learned to be cautious. Of course, she was cautious with just about everything nowadays.


    Selina smiled at Rox as she explained about how the job could help her and nodded, “That’s what I’m hoping for,” she admitted. “But, I’m also just interested because… I’m interested,” she added with a laugh. It was true that there were benefits for her possible future, but she also wanted to live her life in university the way she saw fit. Being a part of a security team seemed like a good way to meet other people with similar interests and also to give her something to work for. Selina always preferred having a busy schedule to not, which could occasionally get her in a bit of trouble with taking on too much, but she was excited about this opportunity nonetheless.


    Hearing that she was expected to use her power, Selina nodded solemnly and looked to the dummies, “I’ll practice on the dummies,” she offered. It wasn’t that she disliked sparring at all, but merely that she didn’t like using her powers against people that she could potentially harm. It wasn’t that she thought Rox couldn’t defend herself with adequate skill, this was merely for Selina’s comfort level. Her physical ability was already impressive, even without the augmentation of her mutation, but she also understood why it would be necessary to have a good command of your power for this type of job. Losing control at the wrong time could be disastrous.


    Selina took out her water bottle and opened it, “Hope this amount is fine?” The amount of water would easily be enough to cause a significant amount of damage if she wanted it to. She manipulated the water to come out from the bottle and she formed a frozen ball that fell into her hand that she simply held. She’d found in practice that using a very little water conserved her energy while also allowing her to maintain speed. She could freeze and unfreeze such a small volume of water easily enough at this point since she’d practiced so often with it. She wasn’t too worried about passing out in the middle of the demonstration.

Roxana gave a simple nod when the other girl said that she would call her Rox. That was fine and there was nothing more to say on the matter. It was good that the girl was actually paying attention to what she was saying and was showing an interest. It was hard to find people that actually had the feelings they were expressing about something. Roxana didn't want just anyone to be on the squad or to be a member of security. After all, the job was supposed to be a serious one and they had to be ready to protect those at the school, and maintain a certain image.

The latter; maintaining a certain image, was also very important, which meant that Roxana would indeed be looking into the kinds of activities Selina participated in if the girl did in fact pass the 'test'. That would come later, with Rox liking talking about it with Vera first, before she would do her on things. Selina was interested because she was interested. Roxana personally was not satisfied with the answer but she gave a small nod that showed that she accepted it. She could not expect everyone to have a clear cut out reason why they wanted to do something and just expected with time the other girl would have more to her answer when asked later on.

Rox just gave another small nod when Selina choose the dummies over her, she made a mental note of that but it was nothing that would affect her decision on the girl. Perhaps she didn't feel confident in her power or didn't know what Roxana was capable of. All the same, Roxana gave the girl her space and got ready to watch what she could do to the dummies. "If that amount suits you, yes. If you need more water those three canisters are full of it." Roxana said as she pointed to the three blue plastic canisters behind her and a little off to the side. She picked this spot for a reason, since it was used by mainly elements and thus had the things an elemental would need to practice with their power laying around.

She watched closely as Selina froze the water and turned it into an ice ball. So she was the type who liked to use her water ability to focus on freezing the water which took more effort for someone who was not an ice manipulator but certainly achievable. Rox didn't say anything still, taking more mental notes as she watched Selina, allowing the girl to have her creative freedom and just do what she would do in order to attack the dummies.

    Selina wasn’t about to lie and pretend like she would risk her life for people she didn’t know because of some righteous passion. She was here for purely selfish reasons, and she didn’t mind admitting it. If she were accepted, she would perform her job to the letter, as she held high standards for herself in regards to working and being professional, but she also wouldn’t claim to be doing it for the sake of some altruistic greater good that she didn’t believe existed either.


    Selina was practical to her core, and if she didn’t work well with what the school was looking for, she had other options. She was willing to give this a shot though, so she splintered the sphere in her hand and performed a complex striking kata, with the splinters of ice hitting the target where her fist or foot would have had she been closer. The splinters dug into the wood and stayed in place due to the momentum behind her strikes. The only hard part was the initial energy it took to freeze the water, aside from that, it took roughly the exact same energy to manipulate the ice in her hand as it did to manipulate liquid water.


    Selina hit the dummies with blows that would debilitate versus kill, as she had a feeling this school wasn’t going to appreciate lethality in their security team, but then again she could be wrong. Selina aimed her last strike for a dummy’s stomach and hit it dead center. It could be a lethal hit, or merely knock the person's breath from their body. Selina then figured she might as well use some of the water in the basins and drenched the dummies, similarly to how she would if two students were fighting and merely needed some light external encouragement to break it up.


    She was breathing heavily by the time she finished, but she could still do more if Roxana wished it of her. “Is that alright? Is there something you would prefer I do different?” she asked. She’d just been going with the flow and following her typical training forms, but she wasn’t sure if that was enough for the short-haired woman.

Roxana remained silent the whole time, not really seeing the need to say anything that she was thinking about what the girl was doing. Roxana didn't talk much in general unless she felt like something needed or should be said. In this case, nothing really needed to be said since she was just looking for a simple display of the girl's powers and how she would choose to use them when told to use her power on the dummies. Rox did not tell her what she specifically wanted or what type of situation this scenario was for a specific reason. One that she got her answer to as she watched what Selina did with her power.

The method itself was similar to one way Roxana used her power; creating daggers and using them as a weapon to fight with. The girl's skill was pretty decent but Roxana could easily tell what style the girl was using, not like that was a bad thing. As for how most of her shots ended up being ones that would just injure a person, the last one could kill depending on how deep it would go into the person. A blunt object could even be used to kill someone; the skin itself was not all that tough compared to the rest of the body's defense of muscle and bone. The other female even used some water that was sitting there for her use if she choose to.

Then everything was done and Roxana gave a small no, mostly to herself. Selina was breathing heavily which at least showed that she did put some effort into what she had just done. Good. "No, that was fine. I left it open for you to do as you like so long as you dealt with the dummies and you did just that." Roxana responded as she moved to pick up a water bottle and a protein bar for Selina. She didn’t know if the girl was actually hungry or thirsty but it was always a good idea to hydrate and consume some food after a workout, even if it was a little bit. "Here." Roxana said as she held out the water and bar. She figured that she should say more but she didn't really feel like there was much else to be said.

"You performed well and I can see why Vera spoke highly of you. I'll be sure to take everything you showed me here into consideration when I write up my take on this event and pass it up to my superiors." Roxana informed her. Rox and Vera were in charge of the squad so it was easy enough to figure that Selina would at least make that. As for being an intern, that needed to be talked about with those that were the higher ups for the schools main security.

    Selina nodded to Rox as she heard the girl say that she didn’t need to do anymore. She then smiled as she saw the water and the food, “Thank you Rox,” she offered. She nodded to the woman as she heard her assessment. “Is there anything else I should do?” she asked, wondering if there was an application or anything that she should fill out. Paperwork was always a bit of a drag, but Selina was more than ready to do what she needed for this.


    She knew that the job with the Conners was legitimate, but at the same time, part of her was still wary of just how far that could get her. For some reason, the school security team felt more real, more concrete. Maybe it was because this was something that had been within the realm of her possibilities even when she’d first attended. Maybe it was because she still didn’t trust anybody richer than her mother. Perhaps it was also because she was still in shock that the other opportunity had even come up at all. She honestly couldn’t say why this offer felt more real to her. It just did.


    Whatever it was, Selina was grateful for this opportunity, and she made a mental note to thank Vera for recommending her and for contacting her in the first place. She would work her ass of here just as she did for her paying employers, because Selina took real pride in her work ethic. She wasn’t one to ever take on something she didn’t plan to dedicate her all to, whether that was school classes, a job, or a relationship… though the last excluded everyone but her family at this point.

Roxana just gave a simple nod in response to the thanks she got from Selina. She didn't see the point in saying thanks other than for manners sake. Roxana was just doing something that was part of her job after all and also as a favor to Vera. Vera had strangely become...friends with Roxana and it only seemed right to look into the girl that was mentioned. Selina certainly had a talent about her and could prove to be a valuable member to the squad and possibly internship. Rox was not going to say much on it for now and just kept a hold of all of her mental notes to put down on paper later.

There was technically paper work Selina could fill out but Roxana figured she would take care of that so not to waste any more of the girl's time. "No, you are free to go whenever you please. I will ask that you still try out again when the official try outs come out, just so there is more to go off of then just my word." Roxana pointed out. Even if her word carried a lot of weight and power behind it, there was nothing wrong with having extra measures to go buy when it came to this sort of thing. Plus it would also reveal if the girl was still interested when positions officially opened up and people had the possibility to be moved around.

With that all out of the way Rox glanced off for a moment before looking back to the other girl. Yes, that was pretty much everything and she didn't want or see any point in keeping the girl around any longer if the girl had things to do. "Thanks again for your time. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask." Roxana said, giving a slight bow of her head. She didn't head off to leave or anything; instead she sat down and took a drink of water, looking like she planned to stay there for a little bit or so.
