Looking over the area, Evelyn's brown eyes searched for the girl in question. She'd already heard the news about her brother seeking the girl out with the thought of hiring her for "muscle", and although Evelyn didn't at all doubt her brother's judgment, that didn't mean she didn't want to see for herself what all the fuss was about. When she'd first heard about it, it had caused her eyebrow to quirk, but she supposed there had to be something behind all of this in order for her brother to grow even remotely interested.
It was in moments like these that Evelyn was glad her brother was the one who sought out their partners. Although Evelyn could be charming and approachable when she wanted to be, she was the far more reserved and calculating out of the twins. She didn't like people on a general basis - especially not teenagers.
Sighing, her lips pursed as she finally spotted the girl. She made a beeline towards the table she was sitting at, and once she reached it, she cleared her throat to get the girl's attention, pulled out a chair and sat down.
Her brown eyes remained locked upon the girl's face, and the corner of Eve's lips tugged upwards into something of a smile. "Miss. Taylor, I presume?" she asked, her hands folding. She studied the girl's face for a moment, before continuing. "We haven't officially met." With that, Evelyn extended her hand to greet the other girl. "Evelyn Conner."

Selina was in a rather good mood lately. Things seemed to finally be looking up for her and she was going to have a job. A job that paid her really well. Selina couldn’t help smiling thinking about it. She’d actually ended up finding some good luck at this school and she was hoping it would only get better. Apprehension often quickly came to end her happier spells and made her wonder what was about to go desperately wrong. It was like she was standing on the edge of a precipice and she had no idea if she’d end up flying or falling.
Selina glanced up in surprise when she heard a girl clear her throat before smirking as the girl introduced herself. The second Conner to sit down across from her. How interesting. Selina reached across the table and gave Evelyn a firm but quick handshake, “Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Conner,” she offered with a smile. Though Drew seemed alright with being on a first name basis, she had a feeling Evelyn was very different.
“Is there something I can do for you?” she asked politely. First the bodyguard, now the sister. Would she meet everyone connected with Drew in the next couple of days? Was this something rich people did, or was it something specific to the Conner family? Her musings were mostly facetious in nature, but still, she couldn’t help but wonder when the next person would come up to her and introduce themselves as being affiliates of her employer.

At least the girl was polite, which was always a good sign. She also seemed to pick up on cues rather quickly, as she resorted to using Evelyn's last name instead of going directly to a first name basis, which so many of these kids seemed to do. Now, there was only a few people Evelyn allowed to call her by her first name, and even less that she bothered doing the same with.
"Not quite, no," she replied, her head tilting slightly as she studied the young girl. "Call it... Wanting to see what the fuss is about." She looked around then, making sure no one was within earshot. She turned back to the girl, her hands folding across the table. "I've yet to meet several of the people my brother has hired, which naturally, includes yourself." She offered the girl a stiff, but polite smile.
Her brother had only briefly mentioned the girl, but considering how Evelyn was in charge of the paychecks and numbers, the girl's name did pop up, after all. Now, she didn't normally care much for getting to know the help, but she supposed it was only polite of her to introduce herself at the very least.

Selina raised a brow at Evelyn’s choice of phrase, as she hadn’t been aware that there was a fuss being had. Luckily, she was smart enough to keep her mouth shut and just nodded to Evelyn instead, “I’d be happy to provide any clarity I can,” she offered sincerely as she followed Evelyn’s glance around the cafeteria. So both siblings were paranoid. Good to know. It was almost a comfort knowing that other people in the world were as cautious as she was, or potentially even more so.
Selina nodded to Evelyn once more, still unsure what it was the woman was looking for. Was this a social visit? A business discussion? Evelyn’s version of an interview? “I see,” she offered with a polite smile. Selina honestly wasn’t sure what information she should provide, if she needed to provide any at all. She was used to doing job interviews, but she’d never been a part of anything quite as underhanded as this.
Some might consider that surprising considering her background, but Selina had kept herself mostly aboveboard for the sake of her mother until now. And it was for the sake of her mother that she’d chosen a different path now. Funny how life turned out. Selina wasn’t sure how much information Evelyn was comfortable discussing in a cafeteria, but she figured she’d wait and see. She’d let Evelyn lead this to where she wanted it to go, so Selina didn’t end up saying something she shouldn’t.

Evelyn was pleasantly surprised at the politeness the girl offered. It was such a refreshing thing to behold, given that so many of these children were rude and less than pleasant to be around. It wasn't enough to make her lower her guard, but it was enough to make her feel a little more at ease. She wasn't here to interview the girl or even ask her about every single detail of her life. It was nothing more than curiosity.
She trusted her brother's judgement, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to do a few rounds of herself.
She supposed a little polite conversation was in order. "You don't have to worry, Miss. Taylor. I'm not here to check up on you or ask you to map out every detail of your life." She offered the girl something of a smile, which was rarely seen on the brunette. "I'm simply curious. That is all." She pulled her hair away from her face and tucked it behind her ear.
"I'm curious about why my brother sought you out of all people." She already knew why, but that didn't mean she couldn't see what the girl would respond with. "As I'm sure you already know, you hardly look the part."

Selina nodded to Evelyn as she revealed that this wasn’t an interrogation. She could work with curiosity. Selina didn’t mind being the subject of this girl’s scrutiny much, after all it wasn’t unwarranted. Being in this type of business while being a in a high-profile family like Evelyn’s was risky. Then again, this girl probably had the funds to pay for lawyers, bribes or whatever else she needed to get out of any potential trouble, but Selina imagined the possible bad publicity wouldn’t be a desirable outcome.
Selina was still slightly surprised by her question though, and wondered why Evelyn didn’t just ask Drew instead of going out of her way to ask Selina. Selina then briefly wondered about the relationship these two siblings had, but quickly realized that whatever was going on between the two, the fact remained that Evelyn had chosen to hear the answer from Selina. “I won’t pretend that I can speak for your brother, Ms. Conner, but he found out about certain skillsets and experiences I have that he likely thought would be beneficial to your… endeavors.”
Selina eyed Evelyn, wondering just how much detail she should give here, as they weren’t exactly alone, “I have a colorful history that not many here share, and I also believe that the fact that I don’t ‘look the part’ might be a significant part of the reason he decided to contact me over the others he may have considered. Though, I’m honestly not sure,” she admitted easily.

"I see," she replied, nodding. The girl surely had a good head on her and out of the many people her brother had sought out that Evelyn had met, she liked this girl the best. At least thus far. She didn't seem to have any intense personality disorders, she was polite and easy going. She wasn't one of those people who grew instantly defensive or awkward when spoken to. It made being around the girl all the more easier. Thank heavens. "Well, my brother does have a good head on him," she began, lips pursing. "If he sought you out, he did so for a reason." Why Evelyn felt the need to assure the girl, she didn't know. She did offer her a smile though.
Which felt oddly alien.
"Clever girl," she said, nodding. It was obvious that the brunette was pleased by the answer, even if the girl was uncertain. "And very good answer." Evelyn could admire honesty. She could also admire people who so easily admitted their uncertainties. In that alone, showed strength. The girl thus far, had done nothing if not leave Evelyn pleasantly surprised. Which didn't happen often.
For someone who normally acted indifferent towards others, this girl was so much easier to talk to. Evelyn could easily enough agree with her brother's choice.

Selina grinned at the woman’s attempt at reassurance. Evelyn was surprisingly cute underneath all of that business persona, not that Selina would ever say such a thing to or about her. Selina felt quite certain that she might end up on the woman’s bad side if she did, and Selina wanted to keep that from happening if she could. “Thank you Ms. Conner,” was all she said in response with a polite bow of her head in acknowledgement of what she’d said.
Evelyn was also quite pretty when she bothered to smile, and Selina couldn’t help but smile herself in response. Selina nodded once more in thanks for the second compliment she received and relaxed a little. “Is there anything in particular that I should be aware of from your end of things? I’ve been able to speak about details with your brother, but is there any time I might end up taking directives from you as well?” she asked in curiosity.
Evelyn was certainly interesting. She seemed to be intelligent, careful, and just the right amount of confident to pull something like this off. Selina didn’t mind the idea of working for the sister as well in the slightest, even if that hadn’t been discussed previously.

Offering the girl a strained smile in response to the polite reply, Evelyn left that bit of conversation there. Now, it always felt odd to smile, even when it was strained. It didn't feel natural against her features. She figured she'd spent far too much time being indifferent. Smiling wasn't something that happened often, unless it was her trademark shark-like, arrogant smirk - which she naturally shared with her brother.
Allowing herself a moment to chew on the question the girl offered, Evelyn's head nodded faintly. "Perhaps," she started. "I'm not going to be as forward to claim that your services won't ever be needed, but I suppose time will show." After all, you never knew when you needed someone with the... skills this girl had. Now, she could usually rely on Alistair with such matters, but she supposed it was handy to have a second option at hand, just in case.
"Don't worry, it won't ever be something that would make you uncomfortable or put you in a demeaning position." Despite everything, Evelyn was lady. She might have been harsh and direct at times, but she didn't consider herself cruel.

Selina nodded to Evelyn, “I understand. Thank you for your consideration,” she offered. Selina liked knowing her priorities and responsibilities up front and she appreciated the honesty in Evelyn’s response. She vastly preferred harsh and direct over flaky and roundabout. She couldn’t really stand people who never got to the point. It just wasted her time, and she had better things to do than to listen to people jabber away meaninglessly.
“I look forward to working with you and your brother, Ms. Conner,” Selina said with a smile. She would be getting paid more than she ever had being a waitress or a janitor that was for damn sure. She’d done what she had to for the longest time, and now she felt like she might be able to actually do something she wanted to do.
It was also a relief to not have to worry overmuch about abusive bosses. Or inappropriate bosses. She wasn’t sure which one of the two she despised more, but the Conners didn’t seem like they’d fall into either category, for which she was very grateful.
