Getting coffee before stepping into work, Reid's bright blue eyes scanned the little bistro as she waited for her coffee. Quietly, she played the guessing game on her own, making up stories for all the patrons as they went about their business in pairs or groups or alone.
Tugging at the collar of her coat, she caught someone looking at her at the corner of her eyes. She slowly turned her head in that direction and quickly, they looked away. Her eyebrows furrowed in the middle before she went back to her quiet musings.
Once again she found herself being looked at and this time she actually caught the person just before they started gathering their things. They left in a hurry and Reid wondered briefly why that was just as the barista called to her to get her coffee.
Armed with her coffee, Reid walked out of the bistro and saw them again. They started speed walking and her frown deepened. She followed them and the more she tried to close their gap, the quicker they moved away until they started to sprint.
"What the hell?" She took a sip of her coffee and started to jog.

Sometimes Rebekka had to get away from the school. She loved her job. She really did. But there was only so much she could take of the kids. No, the toddlers. Rebekka was still convinced that's what they were. It made more sense with how they acted most of the time. She had to play babysitter. But even the babysitter needed time off. So she took it. She was getting breakfast in town. It would give her some sort of breather. So she looked around for a good place to get food.
Then there was the sprinter. Someone came out from somewhere. Another person followed. Rebekka watched in faint curiosity. It only increased when the person sped up. They were heading this way too. Rebekka had a few seconds to decide. Help or don't? Helping meant her morning even away from the school could get busy. But at the same time, she couldn't miss out. When the person tried to pass, Rebekka tripped them. She smirked slightly when they tumbled to the ground. "In bit of a hurry there, aren't you sir?" She asked. The person started cursing and Rebekka had a feeling she'd made the right decision. She pushed him back down with her foot, and looked at the girl. "Something tells me this gentlemen is anything but gentle."
Surprised that someone had proactively done their part, Reid slowed to a stop before grimacing at the woman's astute observation.
"No kidding." Reid responded before locking her palm under the man's arm and hoisting him up. "What in the hell were you thinking, running away from me? Why would you even?" She asked, reeling back a little when the guy tried to swipe at her.
He continued to mumble and curse incoherent sentences. "Well, if you're not going to tell me, I can very well call for backup." She used one hand to unbutton her coat so the guy could see her badge. It seemed to be effective as he started to apologise. He had apparently recognised her from before and was wary of cops and such. He was also holding on to something 'for a friend' and didn't want to be bugged about it because he was on parole. Nothing she hadn't heard before. She gave the woman who had helped her an eye roll before searching his bag.
She smirked at the contents before calling in for backup. She cuffed him and brought him over to her car. "I'm going to need you to come with me too, Miss." Reid nodded to the woman. She will need her statement for what happened to fill out her paperwork.
"Thank you." She gave the woman a small tired smile as she made the perp get into the backseat of her car.

The woman looked surprised. Rebekka didn't blame her. She had a feeling there weren't many others in this crowd who would've stopped the man. Although the one who would probably had a better reason than Rebekka. The woman agreed with her and hefted the man up. Rebekka was content to watch. She was smirking widely. Not grinning but close to it. She started asking questions on why he'd run. The guy actually tried taking a swipe at the woman. Luckily she had the sense to avoid it. Not that Rebekka would mind needed to trip the guy again.
When she started talking about backup, Rebekka knew. Knew even before she flashed her badge. This woman was a cop. Which made the man start sputtering apologies. Now Rebekka was grinning somewhat. It was hysterical how quickly her changed his tune. All at the flash of a simple badge. Now he started confessing. Holding onto something? Rebekka caught the woman's eye and shared her eye roll. If Rebekka could get a dollar every time some kid tried using that excuse, she could buy a brand new tv.
The woman rummaged through his stuff. Rebekka kept her eyes on the man for the most part. Part of her almost wanted him to try running. Chasing him down could be fun. Although it was fun seeing him cuffed. The woman spoke up as she did it. Apparently she'd need Rebekka to come along. The fact killed her smile only a little bit. Mainly because that meant she'd have to wait for her food. But this was a pretty rare occurance. Besides, she wanted to see where this went. So she nodded and followed after. She even got a thank you, which prompted her to laugh. It always sounded more than a little harsh. "No problem. Just trying to make your life easier." Rebekka responded. "Besides, anyone sprinting like that can't be up to any good. Even if they're so 'kind' to hold onto something for a friend"

After making the necessary calls, backup would be arriving in a few minutes. It was a lucky thing they weren't that far away from the precinct. She didn't have to deal with the perp for too long. Reid chuckled at the woman's response before nodding at her assessment.
"It's like they think that excuse actually holds up." Reid looked down at the man who was still glaring at her from the backseat of her car. When she locked the car, she almost dared the guy to try and escape.
"Lieutenant Chase." She reached a hand out to the woman with a genuine smile. "Glad we still have civic minded citizens here."

The woman had to make a few calls but Rebekka didn't care. She had time to kill and one hell of an excuse if someone questioned how long she was gone. Who was going to argue against a cop? A cop who was actually getting Rebekka's humor. What a steal. "I know right? If they're at least going to make an excuse, they should try making it actually interesting." She responded. If a student could amuse her with a tale enough, she usually made the punishment a little more lax. The guy was glaring at them, and Rebekka grinned. It was like looking at a rat in a cage.
Lieutenant Chase. Rebekka chuckled and shook the offered hand firmly. It was nice seeing some honest manners. And rare too. "Rebekka. No title to go with it, I'm afraid." She replied, grinning still. "I don't know if I'm the best example for being 'civic minded,' but I figure you guys already get enough hell. And if I get an excuse to trip someone who looks shady, I'll gladly take it." She'd certainly had fun with that part. Now came the slightly more boring part. She dropped the hand. "So, we off to delivier this little rodent?" She asked with a glance at the window again.
Smirking at the back and forth between them, Reid couldn't have agreed more with the woman's response. "Although by now, to be honest, I've probably heard every single excuse. "It fell into my bag" "I've never seen it before in my life" "Someone is framing me" The excuses are endless."
The introduction left her smirking before she shrugged. "I have a very loose interpretation of civic minded. Don't sweat it."
With her hand loose from the grip, Reid pocketed it her coat before turning to the perp with a small shake of the head. "Still waiting on backup. I'm not on duty just yet and I can't drive him myself unfortunately. Would love to just find any pothole to drive over." Reid turned back to the woman. "You can either wait it out with me here or walk over to the police station and wait for me there."

Rebekka snickered. She had a point. She'd heard so many now, they started sounding the same. "That's true too. Don't forget 'I have no idea how it got there!' or 'This can't be mine!'" She responded. "I love it when they start saying it isn't theirs. Most of them change their tune when I start taking everything. Since none of it is 'theirs' right?" She added with a snicker. It was fun seeing the kids freak out. Especially if their phone happened to be involved. That or their laptop. Then their tune changed fast.
She had a loose interpretation of civic minded. Rebekka laughed. "Well that's a relief." She responded. Not that Rebekka did much particularly bad. She just was not he best example. Reid shook her head and said they'd have to wait. Rebekka had to laugh at the pothole bit. She'd probably do the same. And make sudden stops at that. Rebekka wasn't the nicest. "I'd rather wait around with you, red." She replied with a smirk. "I think you'd be better company than the side walk. Besides, we wouldn't want our friend to get lonely right?" She glanced in at the guy again. She was still chuckling on the inside at the turn of events today. Going into town was a good idea.
