Over the span of six months, the once blue-eyed jock with a haywire ability and a resentment towards his brother, had done a 180 from who he'd been. No longer was he the pretty boy, the ladies man who went around and partied because he could do whatever he wanted. Things had been changing in his life, constantly. His resentment turned to regret and respect for his brother. He loved Nick, he loved Nick's wife and even more than anything, he loved his nephew, Hayden. His love for his nephew, for his family, had only fueled a bigger change. With anti-mutant organizations springing up, Nathan had taken into his own hands, a way to protect people. By working for Helios, he was trained to fight and he was trained to protect the way he'd always wanted.
Although the need to protect stemmed from his family, there was more to it than just that. There was always a girl that got away. In Nathan's case, she had been taken away and even though she wasn't his to lose, he took it as hard as if she was. Luxanna Viera was one of those people in his life who had called him on his bull shit and his crappy attitude. Despite how angry he could get, he'd never once been able to get angry with her. And she looked past it when he did get upset for no reason at all. Even if it hadn't been declared between the two, she had been the closest friend he had, and was sadly the first girl he'd ever really cared about. Alas, she had been taken though by someone else. And then she was gone completely, out of his life, out of this world, taken too soon because of the ability they both shared. Hers had just been harsher on her body than his was.
Now that he was back, back from training and living back in the town of Kalispell, he saw her face everywhere he looked. She was still in his dreams, the same awkward, sassy girl that he knew. So while he walked through downtown, his puppy, Koda at his side, Nate wasn't surprised to see her walking out of a store. He blinked a few times, and then she'd be gone. Except...as he blinked...and blinked, she didn't disappear like she had before. Koda let out a little yip and he hushed the pup before looking back up and into the eyes of a ghost.
