Normally she was not allowed to do this. But with the amount of time she was away from home and in the library she liked to make sure the courtyard was empty at night and get her panther Fido and let him play a little. Fido new the rule of not being able to go out of ear shot of Kenny which was maybe 30 feet or a little longer. But even if someone was out there he looked more intimidating than he was. he would likely try to be pet and bring them his kevlar stuffed pig. or the medicine ball he places with. Once she got Fido to the academy keeping him in the courtyard was easy. It was getting him to the academy in a cab that was usually the pain in the ass.

But tonight she did not have a problem. She was sitting by a tree running her hand along the pages of a braille book. Her other hand was petting Fido whose head was in her lap as she was reading to him out loud. She knew Fido did not care about her stutter nor did her hair so she was content and peaceful. Her hair would turn the pages as she finished reading them because one hand was reading the other was petting her cat. 

For a moment she stopped reading out loud. Her hand stopped moving on the page but her other hand kept petting the cat. She thought to herself that she was only meant to read the adventures not live them. Was this her life? spending her nights alone in a large courtyard reading a book out loud to one of her only friends?. She wished she could be like a character from her books. A vibrant personality full of life that could go out and create the adventures rather than reading about them and find their happily ever after. But she had always thought that happily ever after was just a fairytale to blind librarians and she should just get it out of her head.

Tamara could still remember the time when she had to stay up until very late at night and walk the hallways of the dormitories to make sure she wouldn’t hear any party or see any shenanigan going on. There was always someone who’d try to sneak out, or back in, or go to a room that wasn’t theirs. This had to be prevented. You didn't want to hear that something unfortunate took place. Now head of the dorms, she no longer had to do this. But there were still nights when she could not sleep so well. Nights when her thoughts, whatever they were, prevented her from falling asleep until pretty late, or very early in the morning, depending how you wanted to see it. Not being an avid reader, all that was left for her to do was watch the television. And when there was nothing good on it, well, it was a real shame. Besides, she heard it was bad to try to sleep while watching television.

Another thing she did was going out. But she was not really feeling like it. Her only other option then became taking a walk. She just couldn’t sleep anyway, she was not tired enough and would likely not be for a while longer. She may as well walk it off. She knew she could use her power, it would make her vision blurry and eventually tire her brain out. But that would also leave side-effects she may have to deal with in the morning. And she hated to think it might give her cancer someday. Besides, what kind of image could she really create? The walk was really the healthiest, simplest option.

She walked to the courtyard, a light shiver creeping down her spine. The temperature, although not cold, was not the same as the one inside the building. The courtyard was so quiet at this time of the night. As it should be, really. There was still time for curfew, she supposed, but people were rarely spending the night out there, not at this time of the year at least. It may be why, when she saw a silhouette by a tree, she got intrigued. Her brain did not scan yet what she was looking at. A woman, no doubt. With a cat that she was petting. Only it was some pretty big cat. A really big cat.

She had to come closer to realise what it was that she was looking at. A... panther? It had to be a student, right? The school would never allow a student to own a panther but some were able to turn into animals. Maybe one could turn into a panther. As she approached further, she realised this was not a student. She recognized someone she did not see a lot but knew of. A blind librarian, now that was something you could only get at Bellefonte, really. She didn't hear what she said but she still walked closer to her. “I thought you lived in town,” she let out. She kept a reasonable distance from the librarian though. It was a panther resting on her lap after all. She didn’t want that thing after her.
