Roman Lee Park
FACE CLAIM: Yongguk Bang
---------------------------------
AGE: 22
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Homosexual
POSITION: College student (also works as a bartender)
POWER: Felidae shapeshifting and physiology
Roman has the ability to shapeshift his physical form into any species in the felidae family (although he prefers the bobcat over the rest and rarely shifts into others out of pure familiarity). While he can shift his entire body into that of a feline, he is also able to only change parts of his body to that of a feline, such as slitted eyes, a tail, or claws at his fingertips, due to extensive training.
LIMITATIONS:
He can shift into a full feline form for about a half-hour at maximum, and usually only once or twice a day. Larger cats, such as tigers and lions, are more tiring than smaller cats, such as lynx and bobcats, so he can hold those forms for less time and suffers more severe side-effects from them as well. Partial shifting is less wearing on the body and he can hold them for longer, but they also require more focus and concentration to keep. He can keep multiple 'parts' of a feline at any given time, but the more he has, the shorter he can keep them and the harder it is to concentrate on all of them.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
The most common and obvious side-effect is pain while shifting, both into the cat form and out of it. It's less painful to shift into cats that are closer to his size, but it still always hurts to a fairly severe degree. After shifting back to his human form, he also usually becomes a little paranoid and twitchy from losing some of the more acute senses of a cat for a short period of time. Some other common side-effects include headaches and fatigue after shifting, as well as an unusually high flea attraction.
HEIGHT: 6'
HAIR COLOR: Typically dark brown
EYE COLOR: Brown
MISC: Roman typically wears a resting bitch face, and doesn't care if you find it intimidating or not. With dark, short-cropped hair and somewhat heavy features, he uses his uninviting appearance to his advantage when he doesn't want to be bothered or is trying to intimidate someone. The most jarring of his facial features, however, is a thin, jagged scar running from the top of his left cheek to almost the left corner of his mouth, which warps his already aggressive features even more. He also has both of his lobes pierced twice.
He stands at a fairly tall 6-foot even, and has a very solid build. He's not incredibly bulky, but he has broad shoulders and a wiry, compact figure that makes it obvious to see that he works out. His skin is generally unmarred, although he does have some speckling of acne on his back and shoulders, as well as around his jaw.
His general attire consists of dark-colored jeans and tight-fitting black or dark tanktops. When it's cold, he'll add on layers of long-sleeves and jackets as necessary, but he sticks to a very dark and monochromatic color scheme for the most part.
PERSONALITY: Roman doesn't get along well with people. It doesn't matter the age, gender, race or sexuality or any other combination thereof, he's just always been a loner by nature. Not because he's uncomfortable with social situations or anything - he's pretty apathetic about parties and other gatherings - but he just doesn't like people. On the rare occasion that people approach him without being scared off by his initial glaring, they'll quickly find him to be very curt and sometimes cold, especially towards woman due to the abandonment of his own mother. He doesn't go out of his way to be rude towards authority figures, such as professors and his employers, but he doesn't exactly exude warmth and respect either.
He is, however, a hard worker. Whether it be school or actual work, Roman doesn't slack off, and hates to procrastinate. He's one of those students that will finish a paper a week before it's due, just to get it done and out of the way so he doesn't have to worry about it anymore. And even though he isn't outgoing at his job at the bar, he is very experienced in his work and makes sure to serve to his utmost capacity. He gets tipped pretty well because of this, and so it's one of the rare places where he does make sure not to act overly cold or apathetic.
Ever since he was young, Roman was pressured to be masculine and only pursue 'manly' hobbies. These include working out, riding motorcycles (which is his most common mode of transportation), drinking (which has become a little too frequent for his long-term health), and metalworking, among other things. Of course, his father would not approve if he found out his son was gay, and so Roman keeps that away from the old man despite actively pursuing sexual relationships with men - he just makes sure not to tell his dad about it and uses the excuse that he's too busy for a relationship. He does, however, only pursue very effeminate men, for the sake of trying to make his sexuality as 'manly' as he can (his logic is a little flawed).
SECRET(S): If asked, Roman will tell anyone that his scar was from a fight he got in when he was younger. He doesn't like telling the real story behind it.
FATHER: Joonho Park
MOTHER: Eunju Kim (left soon after he was born)
SIBLINGS: None
WORTHY MENTIONS: N/A
CHILDHOOD:
((TRIGGER WARNING: Abuse and alcoholism))
Roman's childhood was a rocky one. Born in a run-down neighborhood in the sketchier parts of eastern Los Angeles, he was thrown into a rough life from the start. His parents were young and unmarried when they had him, and it came as little surprise to anyone when his mother abandoned both him and his father only a few months after he was born. Rather than give the baby up for adoption, however, Joonho chose to raise Roman on his own.
In Roman's younger years, his father wasn't terrible - stern, yes, and always pressuring him to be tough and not to cry, teaching him that life wouldn't go easy on you just because you shed a few tears. Their neighborhood was violent, and it wasn't too infrequent for him to hear gunshots down their street, or at least very aggressive yelling and scuffles if nothing else. He was always quiet in school, never reaching out to try and make friends, and often giving silence in return to when other students tried to approach him. It was easier, his father taught him, not to make too many friends, because they would always end up abandoning you eventually. Roman never asked him what people had done to Joonho to make him so cold and bitter, because that's just how he was and the young boy didn't think to question it. He quickly learned not to ask about his mother either, because the only answer he would get would be a glare and an order not to ask about her again.
One of the only positive things that Joonho taught Roman was to work hard. And so he did, both in school and in his hobbies, and it's a trait that he has carried with him into adulthood.
ADOLESCENCE: As Roman got older, however, his father grew worse. He had always had a taste for alcohol, but it wasn't until his son began to be old enough to do more on his own that Joonho's drinking really got bad. He blamed it on his job being stressful and the stress of having to provide for Roman, and basically came up with any excuse other than blaming his own lack of self-control. The man was hard to handle even when sober; when drunk, he was much worse. When Roman anticipated his father coming home from a night at the bar, he would usually hide in his room until the next morning so he didn't have to deal with his father's insults and occasional physical abuse.
He was twelve when the worst time happened. Roman didn't know that his father would be drunk when he came home that day, nor that he'd lost some money on a bet at the bar. Joonho was in an absolutely manic mood by the time he walked through the door, and before Roman could say anything or try to leave the room, his father starting cursing him and swinging an empty beer bottle. In the scuffle, the bottle broke and ended up cutting into Roman's cheek, leaving a shallow but jagged scar that he still has to this day.
Desperate to get away from his father's onslaught, Roman tried to shrink away and hide, pain and tears blurring his vision... Until he realized that he really was getting smaller, and the pain wasn't just in his cheek, but all over. Bewildered and confused, he managed to hide his new body - which he would later realize was a small house cat - in a small enough space that his drunk father gave up his assault and collapsed on the couch.
Joonho was passed out by the time Roman shifted back, and, terrified and in shock, hid in his room for the next several days. Fortunately, his father wasn't home when the recruiters from Bellefonte came, and by the time he did arrive, Roman was already packing his bags and ready to get out of that place. His dad didn't seem to upset to see him go, and the newly manifested boy wasn't sad to leave, even if his father's teachings stuck with him throughout his time training at his new home.
He kept his loner status while training at Bellefonte, not going out of his way to make friends and working hard to perfect his ability. He graduated on time and enrolled in college as soon as he was finished with his schooling at age 18.
ADULTHOOD: Nothing extremely interesting or life-changing has happened to Roman since his graduation. He worked at a corner market until he turned 21, at which point he got a job as a bartender. Despite his father's alcoholic tendencies (or perhaps because of them), Roman had already picked up a drinking habit by then, although he tries not to let it interfere too much with his college education. He's still a very hard worker and is pursuing a degree in mechanics, as he found a knack for working with machinery and cars during the last few years of his life.
