Harper (Bex) Bexley Kinston
FACE CLAIM: Adelaide Kane
---------------------------------
AGE: Sixteen
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Pansexual
POSITION: Student
POWER: Artistic Psychometry -
The ability to obtain historical memories or sensations concerning a piece of work that is deemed art. Harper can feel what the artist was feeling when they were creating their art and she can catch glimpses of thought, a look into their life and what it was like at the time it was created.
LIMITATIONS:
This ability is specific to art in an ink-like medium. Photography (unless hand-colored), sculpture and computer graphics are the three forms of art that do not pertain to Harper's ability. There are too many outside effects that distance the person from the art which makes it next to impossible for her to feel anything. She can't see the full life of someone through their art, just small glimpses and snippets into their life at the time of the art being created. The only way she can use her ability is through hand contact with the art and it only lasts as long as she is in contact with the art, as soon as she moves her hand away, the feelings go with it.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
-Tingling fingers upon contact
-Extreme rush of emotions
-Light-headed/dizzy
-If it's a particularly dark or happy feeling that she gets from the art work, it has a slight effect on her own emotions and can linger that way, even if she can't put a finger on what it is that has changed her feelings.
“Art is the ability to turn a trick while all watch.”
-Austin Kleon
Do you ever wonder what an artist is thinking when they put their work down on canvas or paper? What they’re feeling? Of course we often analyze what their work means, but everyone’s interpretation of that is quite different because we relate it to our own experiences. Ha, well everyone except me. I’m a sixteen year old mutant who can pick up a painting, a piece of canvas, or brush my hand across a mural and I know what the thoughts and feelings of the artist were in that exact moment of completion. Cool, huh?
My name’s Harper, not much you can do to shorten it, so my friends call me Bex as a shortened version of my middle name. Harper Bexley Kinston if you really wanna get fancy. I'm short, only like 5'3" and I have a sort of athletic build, despite my distinct distaste of most sports. Dark hair, dark eyes which makes me blend in with people very easily as I like to stay under the radar. I'm average looking in my opinion, never been the one to stop traffic, but I also don't show off a lot of skin annnndddddd I have tiny boobs so, nothing to draw attention.
My one true love, as you might have guessed, is art. More specifically, spray paint. I’ll let you in on a little secret...I’m a graffiti artist and I’ve been tagging walls since I was seven. Most people mistake us as vandals and crooks, but we’re not all about fighting the system and defacing public property, although, sometimes we are. My parents were well-known graphic designers with a respectable reputation in the art industry and believe it or not, they were the ones who brought their kid tagging with them. Funny right?
I grew up in the world of artists, so to become anything less was encouraged, but unlikely. I guess you could say ink runs in my blood and fueled my manifestation so early on. I was an early bird in the way of manifesting, eleven years old to be exact and honestly I think I was okay with it. Granted, it was weird and a little uncomfortable going to a school full of people with crazy abilities, but all I had to do was go to a different school. I didn’t have some dramatic move to a new state or country because I’ve always lived in Kalispell. My story wasn’t even that exciting, I was going through some of my dad’s work and he was telling me all about the things that inspired him. All I did was pick up one of his base sketches and it was like seeing right into his brain. I said things that he had been thinking and he looked at me like I was nuts. A few days later I was hauled off to the looney bin that is Bellefonte.
I’m a quiet kind of person, I don’t like being the center of attention and so I kept to myself mostly. On occasion I’d make a comment here or there in classes that resulted in making a few decent friends, but I’ve never been the type to seek out a crowd. That and I like keeping my alternative identity on the DL. School has been pretty mainstream, nothing out of place, other than the outside world having its problems. Sometimes it feels like we’re untouchable, but just on the other side of the walls of our sanctuary, there’s proof that we’re not.
