Kara Christina Travis
FACE CLAIM: Kate Bracken
---------------------------------
AGE: 18, February 3
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: bisexual
POSITION: College student
POWER: Spider Physiology
Webslinging - Kara has glands on each of her wrists. They aren't physically noticeable, but they shoot and spin webs. Like a real spider's, the spiderwebs she shoots are about five times as strong as steel. She can use them to swing, but she can also use them artistically, or practically. A small cave of spider silk would be possible, for example. However, the more silk she spins the more tired she will become. The spidersilk looks kind of like a larger version of the real thing, and it can perform as the real stuff can. However, it can also work like the stuff in Spiderman's webshooters, rapidly woven and shot.
Wallcrawling - Kara can use her fingers and feet to stick to walls and ceilings like a spider can. She can also keep herself oriented while she's doing it. She sticks to the surfaces with the help of a static sort of force. It's strong enough to hold her. Basically it would be strong enough to hold whatever she could, with her human strength.
LIMITATIONS:
She can't carry tons of weight while clinging to walls and ceilings. She also can't wear, say, leather work gloves or steel toed boots and still be able to cling. And you know how those spiderwebs are five times stronger than steel? It isn't like she can sling a car to a building with them like Spiderman because she doesn't have super strength like he does. If she was to try, she'd just plummet whichever way the car was falling.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- exhaustion with more than an hour of wallcrawling or thirty minutes of continuous webslinging
- dry mouth if she overuses webslinging
- the more she uses her powers, the more she has to eat to make up for the extra calories burned
- possible nausea when she rights herself
- possible nosebleeds with overuse
HEIGHT: 5'8"
HAIR COLOR: Brown
EYE COLOR: Brown
MISC: Kara got a small tattoo of a tarantula between her shoulder blades. She prefers to wear leather jackets, but that's about the only peculiar thing. She has pierced ears but that's it.
PERSONALITY: Simply put, Kara is alive. She doesn't let anything rule her emotions. That doesn't mean she doesn't have spontaneous outbursts, but it means that she doesn't let other people get her down. Anything that gets her down is of her own doing. She still has problems emotionally of course. For example...she might have...mood swings.
Alright she isn't as stable as she'd like everyone to think, but what she hasn't realized yet is that very few people are. She hates that she can't control her emotions, but she loves that she has them. Confusing enough? Basically she wishes she could control her emotions, but she has a feeling she knows how a lack of emotion would feel and she hated that even more.
Kara tries to be understanding of others for the most part, but when she's in full mood swing, she can sometimes treat people like crap. She likes peanut butter and can't stand it with honey. She dislikes un-necessary seriousness at times, and yet likes when someone knows when to be serious about something. In other news, she likes country music and dancing slowly in headlights. Basically, she likes to seem tough but at her core she's a sensitive little romantic. This is of course all at odds with her tomboyish preference of dressing, but we're not going to lock poor Kara into gender roles now are we?
SECRET(S): She really doesn't have any. Just that her family has a bit of prejudice against mutants and she hasn't told them she is one yet.
FATHER: Jackson Travis
MOTHER: Abigail Travis (nee Roberts)
SIBLINGS: Elliot Travis (older brother)
WORTHY MENTIONS: Any pets? Any important people?
CHILDHOOD: Kara had a fairly normal childhood. Her parents loved her, her big brother teased her mercilessly. The normal stuff. Her parents even cared for her enough that they homeschooled her. You see she was very energetic and wouldn't have been able to concentrate well enough at public school. They weren't rich by any stretch of the imagination, but they weren't poor either. They were comfortably off financially.
When she was nine, she met her best friend of the next few years. Terrance was honest with her, and he was a loyal friend too. He didn't die, in case you're wondering why it's past tense. He just moved away when Kara was twelve, so he wasn't around when she manifested either. She was just an average Canadian girl before she gained her powers. Then she gained adamantium claws and...no wait wrong Canadian superhero.
ADOLESCENCE: She went to a laboratory for school and got bitten by a radioactive spide-no wait wrong origin story. A thug crossed paths and because she didn't stop him her uncle Ben died...nope wrong again. Kara was just doing her homework...well not exactly she was cheating and looking at cat pictures and reading comics instead. Anyways, she was so absorbed in what she was doing that when her brother snuck into her bedroom and put hands suddenly on her shoulder, she jumped. And stuck to the ceiling. And that's how, at thirteen, she and her brother discovered she was a mutant.
A couple of days later, a guy in a suit showed up and said she was being recruited for a fancy school. Well of course that sounded pretty cool to everyone involved. Unfortunately it was a boarding school, so Kara had to say goodbye to her very-much-alive and loving parents. She went to Acton Vale. When it burnt down, she was transferred to Bellefonte Academy, although her parents disapproved considering her previous school had bloody well BURNED DOWN.
She applied herself properly to her studies at Bellefonte, learning to control her powers so that she isn't randomly spinning webs in places. The janitorial staff has enough problems with regular webs after all. She still has a little trouble with power control of course, but it's better.
ADULTHOOD: Kara's only been an adult for a year, but already she's tired of it. Maturity, that is. She likes having fun and doing what she wants. Nobody can tell her what to do. The attitude's gotten her in trouble a couple of times, but they've just been minor things. She started a food fight at a restaurant, although if you asked her she'd probably tell you the biker gang started it not her. The other time she got in trouble it was because she stuck a fake moustache on one of the art students' statues. But it was easily removed, so that didn't really get her into too much trouble.
Believe it or not, Kara's also been doing fairly well in her college courses. She hasn't decided what she's majoring in yet though, but she figures there's always time for that. She's focusing on having fun and making friends as well. Maybe even finding someone to love, although she's certainly not holding her breath on that one.
