Fiona Thorne
FACE CLAIM: Mellissa Clarke.
---------------------------------
AGE: 25
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Not sure
POSITION: Maintenance Worker (Bellefonte)
POWER: Shadow Morphing
Fiona is able to take shadows and complete darkness and shift into a sort of shadow creature. What it really is, is that she can manipulate the shadows to wrap around her and solidify into this sort of humanoid monster shape. Depending on the amount of darkness she has to manipulate and shift into this form, it can be stronger or weaker. She can also make it bigger or smaller depending once again on the amount of shadows/darkness she has to work with.
However with each time she shifts comes a consequence. Every time she shifts, she also creates a very small creature she calls a shadowling. At it’s first formation, a shadowing is relatively harmless and is more annoying then deadly. Fiona can absorb these little creatures back into herself to destroy them, which she tries to do for all of them. Her little creations are very hostile towards others, although at this tiny state they can’t do much. However, if they manage to get away and find a dark shadowy place, over time they can grow bigger and more deadly, maxing out a little taller than Fiona’s standard height of 4’11” (149.86cm). They can take a lot of grotesque shapes but it is usually humanoid-based.
If Fiona tries to absorb these stronger shadowlings, that also comes with a consequence of its own. Absorbing makes Fiona act more aggressive and hostile for a certain period of time, with brand new shadowlings only lasting in a few seconds of aggression, while fully formed shadowlings can make her angry and hostile for up to 30 minutes. In these states she becomes feral and almost bloodthirsty, but immediately after she is exhausted (possibility to pass out) and depressed and horribly sorry, as she’s able to see what she’s doing but with no control over what she does.
LIMITATIONS:
Fiona requires Darkness or Shadows in order to create her shadow form. The same goes for her shadowlings, which require darkness or shadow in order to grow. The length of time it takes for a shadowling to fully mature depends on the level of shadow/darkness it’s exposed to. Normally in decent shadow it would take around 10 days. In complete darkness the time would be cut in half to about 5 days.
Fiona can maintain her shadow form for 45 minutes at max. After that, she passes out and her form dissolves.
Light can dissipate her shadows and shadowlings, depending on the strength. Weak light would hardly do a thing, while strong light could completely destroy her shadow form.
Fiona has no control of her shadowlings, who display some form of sentience only it seems limited to being entirely hostile towards nearby living things other than their creator Fiona herself. With her, if no other living beings are nearby, the shadowlings are passive and seem to display traits of ‘curiosity.’ Fiona herself is unsure if they actually feel anything of the sort.
When Fiona goes into one of her aggressive states, she has no control over what she does during that period, but she remembers everything afterwards.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
Fiona and her shadowlings are extremely extremely sensitive to light, to the point where it’s fatal. Artificial light can harm or annoy depending on the strength (ex: Flashlight=annoyance and irritation. Floodlight= physical pain and burning). Natural light such as the sun is extremely deadly and can result in 3rd degree burns or even death if Fiona is exposed to it for too long. Natural light will also instantly destroy her shadowlings, with the smallest and new ones evaporating immediately and the mature ones rapidly deteriorating in the span of a minute or 2. Artificial light annoys or harms them much like Fiona, only they are weaker than her against all forms of light. If Fiona is to go out in the daytime, she has to wear full body gear so that every part of her is covered. Otherwise her skin can start boiling in only a few seconds.
Due to her extreme weakness to light, Fiona has become nocturnal in nature, meaning she mostly sleeps during the day and works during the night.
Due to her manipulation of shadows, she can almost “feel” when she’s touching them. So when she’s in complete darkness, she can maneuver using this sort of sixth sense instead of actually seeing in the dark. It goes away completely in light, and is weaker when only in shadow. It extends pretty far, in about a 20m radius.
Since she is almost always in constant darkness, her skin is very pale, and she has very sensitive eyes.
When she absorbs one of her shadowlings, she becomes extremely aggressive and hostile, usually lashing out either verbally or physically at whoever is closest. These periods of aggression depend on the type of shadowing she absorbs. A small, new one would only make her angry for a few seconds, while a fully mature one would make her hostile for around 30 minutes.
After shifting into her shadow form, Fiona is often exhausted and starving afterwards. Depending on the time she spends in that form, she can even pass out afterwards, and usually her body temp drops very low. Usually she wakes with a horrendous headache after passing out, which meant she had gone past her max.
Fiona’s life started out decently normal. She lived in London. She was the third child out of three in the Thorne family. She was tinier than the others in her family and much paler. Initially her parents thought she might be albino when she born, but that obviously wasn’t the cause when her jet black hair began growing in and her blue eyes shone with curiosity.
As she grew up, it was obvious she was a very gentle soul. Always kind and quiet, Fiona was bubbly in her own way. Her siblings, Robert and Jamie, protected her fiercely from anyone who would dare try and tease her. She actually got a good amount of loyal friends due to her shy but sweet nature. As she progressed in age, she kept most of her friends and her relationship with her brothers was very strong. However, then at age 15, things took a drastic turn for the worst. When Fiona tried going out, her skin erupted into boils as if she were being burned. She was ushered back inside and tend to by her family and a doctor. Very soon, only a day later, Recruiters found Fiona and informed her that she was a mutant. Her parents instantly made her leave to go to St. Bethany for her own safety. Fiona was terrified to leave her family behind, but did as she was bid. She kept in contact with her brothers, but her parents never tried to connect with her again.
At school she had to take special classes due to her weakness to light. She was almost aways covered head to foot un clothing without a bit of her showing, and could only truly show herself at night. Due to this, her classes were mainly at night and she would sleep in the day in a closed off room so no light could get in and harm her. She was very much terrified by her own power, especially when she learned of the shadowlings. Thus she tried to never use her powers, and only used them in her training so she could learn to control it better.
After that, she got a job with the school, seeing as how she couldn’t step a foot outside during the day, and she didn’t feel like she could be near any humans without her secret coming out. However, there was an incident involving one of the students, and her friends suggested that she change schools and go to Bellefonte instead. Reluctant but not wanting to hurt someone else, Fiona made the switch and moved over to Bellefonte. Now she works the night shift of maintenance, making the basement of the school her dark home. Although from time to time, she does go out, but only at night so the sun can’t hurt her.
