It was not something she liked to do before because it reminds her of her loss, her late husband, but now she has found a way to remember him without the hurt and the pain she use to feel before.
With that being said, Lola is still a cranky old lady. She is skeptical towards almost everything and questions everyone's motives. Furthermore, she likes to use her old age to her advantage because she knows most humans with a heart have a soft spot for little old ladies. This causes her speak her thoughts out loud without considering much of what others would think. Who would talk back to an old lady?

CHILDHOOD: Lola Green is the younger sister (by 5 years) to Arnold Zane. The two siblings were very close, like two peas in a pod despite the age gap. He was the one who taught her to ride a bike. Whenever she was feeling sad, she would go to her brother for comfort because he would either read or sing to her. She was not close to her parents as she was to her brother because they were usually busy with their work schedule.
When her brother manifested, she was only eight years old. She was amazed by what her brother could do and wished she too could do something similar. Her brother told her that his powers and his kind was not something she should fear. At the same time, it was revealed to her that their grandmother was a mutant as well.
ADOLESCENCE: Ever since her brother had manifested with heightened senses, Lola had always prayed and hoped that she too would manifest. When she hit puberty, nothing felt different except for the cramps and the monthly subscription to Lucifer's waterfall. The fact that she was not a mutant like her brother took a huge toll on her. She feltnot specialordinary. Every night, she cried about it. She could not go to her brother since he was in the boarding school, Sir Henry Barnet Academy.
She saw less of her brother, and her parents paid less attention to her, so she decided to throw herself into her school work. If she was not to have anything special about her, she was going to be a smart ass. She studied hard, hoping her parents would see how hard she worked even though she had no powers like her brother, but they never acknowledged her hard work except for the occasional pat on the back. Lola felt under appreciated.
ADULTHOOD: Upon graduating from high school, she packed up her bags and moved to the United States. She received a scholarship and attended the University of Columbia where she met her now late husband, Joseph. The two were studying business and management. It was love at first sight for them. Lola was very much what you would say a nerd, but Joseph had helped her to loosen up a bit. No longer did she spend her Friday nights locked up in her dorm, revising for the class tomorrow.
When the two love birds graduated, they decided to move to California together where Joseph's parents lived. California was home to Lola, especially when she married Joseph. Unfortunately for her, after only three years into their marriage, her husband passed away due to an accident. Moreover, they did not have any child together. She allowed herself a reasonable amount of time to grieve over Joseph's death, before she threw herself into her work again. She worked odd hours so when she came home, her body would be too tired to acknowledge the loneliness in the house and just go to sleep.
By this time, Lola's own parents had passed away and her brother was still somewhere in Australia and already married. She went back sometimes to visit her brother and his family but after he passed away recently back in 2016, she never returned again. There were of course the usual Christmas postcards from Arnold's children but that was about it. This only made Lola more of a moody woman -- so many people she loved had passed away.
When news of the mutants' existence broke out, Lola had already retired. It came to her knowledge then that her grandniece, Blair, was a mutant just like her brother had been and is attending the school in Montana. So she decided to pack her bags again and move to Kallispell to be closer to the girl. Moreover, it was also as a favor to Blair's parents, her own niece and nephew, Arnold's children. Apparently, the girl had grown distant and her parents wanted Lola to keep an eye on her.
