You'd think by the way the others in the cafeteria were eyeing her that Morrigan was offering up the blood of a virgin. Or maybe that her meal was the beating heart of her enemy or something. It was ridiculous. After a nerd looked at her particularly oddly, she shot a glare at him and he skittered away. He really did. It was kind of hilarious, but as she looked down at her tray with spaghetti and a slice of pizza, she kind of wished someone dared to talk to her. She didn't even care if they were her age. Heck, she might've even talked to a human...no. She wasn't that desperate she decided. She sighed.

It happened again. Callie had run out of food in her room. It was nothing new. Except this time instead of running to the nearest vending machine she decided to tempt her fate by heading down to the cafeteria. There was always something available there for her to eat. They question was if it was any good to eat. She was sporting her usual messy side braid and her jeans, a blue flannel shirt and black cowboy boots with a blue trim. Her pocket cam was safely secured in her back pocket as she meandered into the cafeteria.
It was as it usual was. Students and staff sprinkles about, coming and going. It was a busy place to be most of the time. Callie had made her way down the food line. She got some salad and bread and was tempted to try to pasta which seemed to not have meat sauce today. “Ain’t that somethin’?” She said, a bit surprised that it was in fact plain pasta sauce.
Her icy blue eyes scanned the scenery. She didn’t see anyone she knew there. So she opted for the next best thing. To meet someone knew. She spotted a girl she hadn’t seen before who was sitting alone and for some odd reason people had seemed to keep their distance from her. Unsure of she was a student or faculty member Callie made her way over to the table and took a seat across from her. “Mind if join ya?” She asked. More as a statement rather than a question. Her southern accent was present as she spoke, “It did look a bit runny. But hey. I’m just glad there ain’t meat in it.” She added with a friendly smile as she prepared herself for a somewhat decent meal.

The girl approached and asked her and Morrigan nodded.
"I don't mind go ahead." It wasn't like anyone else was vying for the seat across from the murderer. She said about the meat and Morrigan arched an eyebrow.
"Vegetarian, or does meat just not agree with you?" It could be either really, she knew. She'd tried vegetarian for a while, but meat seemed more vicious somehow which is why she'd gone with it. She just couldn't help herself.

Callie had adjusted herself to the uncomfortable seat at the table. Her eyes scanned her food once more before making their way towards the girl’s plate. Pasta and Pizza. Interesting choice. She took a sip from her water bottle and was glad to hear the girl accept her at the table. “Thanks.” She said, remember her manners.
Normally Callie would look someone over bottom to top, but seeing as they were siting it made seeing anything below the girl’s torso difficult to see, and there was no way that Callie was about to look under the table. Not yet at least. That would be weird.
The blonde gave a toothy smile when the girl asked about the meat. “Vegetarian.” She confirmed, her drawl followed each word she spoke. “Which is funny ‘cause I grew up on a farm.” She added, getting ready to pick up her knife to butter her bread. “But like I told my mama. I ain’t eattin’ my pets. No ma’am.” She continued to elaborate as she swung her knife in the air before purposefully letting it slip out of the weak grip she had on it. She heard the clink it made on the floor, and without missing a beat she proceeded to bend over to pick it up while simultaneously getting a glance of the hidden parts of the girl seated across from here. Cute shoes.
Swiftly she grabbed the knife and sat back up to face the girl. “Oppsie.” She said with a giggle. Callie placed the now dirty knife off to the side as she had no real intention to put butter on her bread anyhow. She wanted to dip in in the watery pasta sauce. She picked up her fork instead and continued her scan of the girl. As always, she ended at her face. Taking in the features of the girl. All the contours of her face, and her blue eyes. She was pretty.
The blonde kept her trademark smile, “Nice ta meet ya. My name’s Callie.”

Vegetarian who used to live on a farm.
"Well in a way I suppose that vegetarians on a farm would be more likely because you get to know the animals. But they're just livestock. They wouldn't even exist if not to serve mutants and humans. They wouldn't be born if we didn't breed them." Almost like humans to mutants. Livestock to do as they pleased. Although Morrigan had gotten in trouble for regarding them as such, it hadn't changed her view of the useless humans. They were mutant playthings. The girl dropped her knife on purpose, Morrigan knew that much. And Morrigan didn't really care. If the person wanted to see under the table that badly so be it.
"Just so you know, you didn't have to check my lap for a weapon you could've just asked and I would've shown you my hands. Plus I'm not allowed weapons anymore. I was handling them responsibly as far as I was concerned. Go figure though." She shrugged. The girl introduced herself. Callie...hmm.

Callie kept her eyes on the girl's face. She made mental notes as her eyes moved along. The way her hair fell and the subtle movements of her face. They way her lips moved as she talked. She couldn't help it. It was what she did. As the years went on it was what she found worked best. Morrigan was just lucky that they were eating. Otherwise, Callie would have had her camcorder out and focused all on her.
She briefly glanced at her plate, with the fork in hand she stabbed the salad that was on her plate hovering the fork with whatever managed to stick slightly above the plate. She was about to take a bit when she was shocked by the words that came out of Morrigan's mouth. Serve mutants and humans? What? Her facial expression remained unchanged. She let the comment go. For now. Her smile grew as she let out a small giggle. "They were more than livestock, more than animals, more than my pets, they were...family." She said as memories followed the words she spoke.
Her memories faded as she was taken aback by another thing this girl said. Weapons? This girl was slowly becoming even more interesting with every word that left her mouth. Callie needed to know. This was it. She was hooked. Her smile simply grew as the girl spoke and Callie couldn't help but let out a laugh at just the thought of her checking for weapons. Although, it did tell her that she wasn't as slick as she previously had thought. Not to worry. One more thing to work on.
The blonde bobbled her head from side to side and spoke after letting out another giggle, "I wasn't checkin' for weapons if ya must know. I just like to get a full image of people." She said to clarify. It almost had her wondering if she should concern herself with people at Bellefonte walking around with weapons. Wasn't it bad enough it was a school full of mutants? Callie titled her head to the side, "Why you ain't allowed weapons anymore anyways?" She asked and then proceeded to take a bit of the salad that had remained on her fork.

"Family huh. Well family doesn't mean much either." She'd had the Clan, but she hadn't had a conventional family so she didn't quite know what the girl was talking about. She just kind of glossed over it. Callie looked intrigued by something and Morrigan wondered if it was her really. Then the girl explained why she'd looked under the table and Morrigan shrugged.
"I didn't need to know really. But okay, I get that. Better to see someone completely. That way at least their physical appearance is all out there, even if their secrets are not." Now she? Morrigan considered herself pretty much an open book for the most part. Callie asked why she wasn't allowed weapons and she shrugged, giving a chuckle.
"I did something that horrified the mutant schools. I killed a human. Oooooh what a horror. Thing was useless to anyone anyways. Don't get why everyone made such a big deal. Apparently they classify it as 'murder', but they don't classify a cow's death 'murder'. They're both basically the same as far as I'm concerned."

The blonde remained as she was, face unchanged, her smile showed as she chewed. The fact that the girl thought family didn’t mean much only made Callie to dive deeper into this girl’s life. As far as she knew, family was important, and everyone had one whether they thought so or not. Clearly this girl had been through something and Callie was hell-bent on finding out exactly what. As she finished chewing she pointed her fork at Morrigan, “I’d have to respectfully disagree.” She said as her southern drawl followed the words she spoke.
Every time Morrigan spoke Callie was always pleasantly surprised. This girl was unconventional. She was open, yet mysterious, and Callie was hooked. She knew she could find out whatever she wanted to know. She’d just have to ask the right questions.
Even though she found the girl intriguing and full of surprises, Callie was not expecting the next thing to come out of her mouth. Her blues eyes went wide in shock as she dropped her fork on her plate. She killed somebody? She killed somebody and she’s sitting in a school cafeteria instead of being in jail? What is that? Are the mutants protecting their own kind? Were there more out there who thought the same way? Callie recalled about the group of mutants a few years back that exposed themselves for who they really were. Mutants were a thing that the whole world knew about now. She was fully aware that there were humans who disliked mutants, but to think mutants would hate humans. No. She shook the thought. As far as she was concerned they were all the same, just some were blessed with different qualities. That’s all.
She had wished that she hadn’t reacted in the way she did. “Why you do it?” She asked, hopeful that perhaps there was a good reason for it. Although, is there ever a good reason to kill someone? She wasn’t too sure of the answer herself.

Morrigan chuckled at the girl's reaction to her admission. And then the girl asked the same thing Morrigan had been asked at her private trial. Why had she done it? Morrigan considered carefully.
"Really, it was mostly just because it occurred to me. I'd been taught that mutants were way superior to humans by my Clan. Thought that meant they were our playthings. Apparently I was wrong because the Clan kicked me out and shunned me. Been confined to mutant campuses ever since for 're-education'" She put finger quotes around the last word.
"So far I still don't see the problem, but nobody's pissed me off enough to make me want to take the steps again, so I don't. It's no fun when people give you consequences afterwards."

Callie sat still in silence. Her blue eyes focused on the girl who sat across from her. Her smile had faded, curious to find out the answer to her question. He fork remained on her plate as she was no longer interested in eating at the moment. She tilted her head slightly to the side and gave a faint half smile as the girl seemed to have laughed at her. Whether it was from her reaction or response she did not know.
Although it was only a few seconds before the girl answered it had seemed like minutes. As each word left the girl's mouth Callie listened intently, yearning to know, to understand.
"Taught?" She asked more to herself than to Morrigan, not realizing she had actually said it out loud. Her clan? Callie's mind was racing, completely baffled by everything she had just heard. She was fully aware that everyone was raised differently and to be open minded but she could not seem to wrap her mind around the fact that someone had taught this girl that she was better than humans for the simple fact that she had powers and they did not.
As Morrigan continued, Callie remained silent, letting the information sink in. The more she heard the more her shock and fascination faded and instead turned into pity. She felt bad for this girl. Wholeheartedly bad for her. There was no anger, no rage...just sadness.
Callie shifted in her seat and grabbed her fork, before taking another bit her trademark smile returned and she gave a small giggle. "Hopefully I don't piss ya off." She said before taking another bit of her salad. There was no point in telling Morrigan that she was wrong, because to her she wasn't. She was never the one to tell someone they were wrong just if she thought differently. No matter how serious or drastic the difference in opinions were. Everyone had their own opinion, it was what go them to that opinion that mattered, that's what she wanted to understand. Callie wanted to understand more, if she could understand, then maybe she could help. Maybe. It would be tough. "Just be glad you ain't in jail." She said, taking another bite off of her fork. "Do you think about that person at all?"

"Naw you're okay so far. First person I've actually genuinely wanted to talk to really. Or pretty close to it. And I am glad I'm not in jail. Did I not sound thankful enough for avoiding that mess?" Morrigan tapped her chin briefly before smirking at the question.
"Can't say I really do think about that person all that much. Really they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Callie smiles remained, and gave a giggle, “Glad ta hear that.” She said feeling a bit relieved. Not that she was worried, but there was always that faint thought in the back of her mind. Morrigan thus far had been kind and welcoming. Not to mention she was more than comfortable with herself and had no problem sharing her story. It was something Callie had always admired about people, when they embraced who they were. Morrigan was no different.
The blonde continued to eat and gave a small nod. “Why’s that?” She asked, probing a bit more. She wanted to paint the picture in her head. She needed to know the whole story. There is always a reason. After chewing, she swallowed, wanting to know everything. “What’s your ability anyways?” She asked, as she shifted, pulling on her camcorder from her back pocket. It was beginning to get uncomfortable, she hadn’t realized how long she’d been sitting on it.

"Well, I'd just escaped the Clan's settlement and gone to the nearest town, and I was feeling like killing a human. That's the whole reason I came to the town. And the first human I saw in a location that I figured wouldn't be seen easily? They died." She shrugged. And then she heard the question about her ability and saw the camcorder pulled out.
"Turn that thing on and I'll leave. Just letting you know. I don't like being recorded. It's just something else that can be later twisted to suit peoples' needs against my best interest." She was still smiling and friendly though. It was just a warning was all.
"I can manipulate shadows. I can also heal the shadows in a peron's emotional aura."

As Morrigan explained, Callie listened patiently. The clan? She wondered if she was part of the group that were responsible for exposing the mutants. She just felt like it? Was it really that simply? The way she had said it. She was so nonchalant about the whole thing. It was almost like she was talking about food or something. Like yeah I felt like having some ice cream today, so the first shop I saw I got myself I big old ice cream cone. It was so…odd. “The clan? Is that where ya from? Your family?” Callie questioned, needing to understand more. To just go out and feel like killing someone. Something had to have caused it. She had a hard time believing this girl was a straight up psychopath.
The blonde went to pick up her bread when Morrigan mentioned the camcorder. She couldn’t help but giggle. “I ain’t gonna use it. It was just hurtin’ my butt. Been sittin’ on it too long.” She explained before taking a bit from the bread.
“Shadows? That’s quite fasniatin’. What ya mean heal people?” She said blue eyes filled with curiosity and wonder.

"I guess the closest descriptor for the Clan would be family." She shrugged. And then she heard the explanation about the camcorder and Morrigan took a deep breath.
"Oh okay then. As long as I'm not going to be recorded." The girl's accent was kind of...novel. Morrigan thought it was interesting anyways. Then Callie mentioned her powers and she shrugged. Heal people...hmm how to explain it...she tapped her chin lightly before answering.
"I see peoples' emotional state by their aura. And sometimes their aura has these black streaks in it. Generally it means something that's really bothering them. Hurting them even sometimes. And I can make the shadow less so that it doesn't hurt them as much to think about and deal with that issue. So not exactly healing, more like kickstarting an immune system I guess."
