Darcy Isabella Pearce
FACE CLAIM: Katie Findlay
---------------------------------
AGE: 25 (born on January 2nd)
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Demisexual
POSITION: School Therapist
POWER: Hormone Detection and Manipulation
She can easily sense how other people are feeling despite how well they try to hide it. Emotions give off these chemicals that she could detect and identify. She is also able to manipulate these hormomes, enhancing the emotions felt--thus the person acts on what they feel intensely. She can do this by physical contact. Darcy herself rarely uses this power as she dislikes manipulating people’s feelings. Still, she has fairly good control over it as to not use it by accident--but often, the emotion one mostly feels is enhanced when close to her. Her main use is the detection part because it comes in handy when doing her job.
LIMITATIONS:
She cannot create emotions. In order for her to detect or manipulate, the emotion must already be present. She can only manipulate hormones by physical contact. If one is out of reach, they are fairly safe from manipulation. Also, even when one’s feelings are enhanced, it is not guaranteed they will act upon it--this part is too human and unpredictable. She can influence them, not control them. As for the detection part, the strongest emotion felt would be what she senses first. Deeper and buried feelings take a longer time and more concentration. It goes without saying that the closer she is to a person, the easier it is to detect. This lasts all day and all night--almost like a sixth sense.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
If someone’s hormones are too strong--be it enhanced or natural--it might rub off on her. The feeling would literally become mutual. This is the same if her own hormones are not controlled. Too many different emotions felt could cause a slight personality disorder. In extreme cases, chemical imbalances take place and she acts on different emotions at a time. Sometimes, this also prevents her from connecting properly on social occasions.
HEIGHT: 5’5
HAIR COLOR: Dark brown.
EYE COLOR: Brown.
MISC: No tattoos, piercings or scars--though she doodles on her arms a lot. But she always wears this ring.
PERSONALITY:
Darcy is a kind and gentle person. Generally bubbly, she gives off good hormones. She loves positive feelings and dislikes negatives--which leads her to try and help people. She likes people, food and fun. Still, she usually has her guard up as to not be too emotional. Her strengths lie in social stuff--people like her and she is able to make good connections by playing to their emotions.
Depending on the way you look at it, strengths can be seen as weaknesses as well. She sometimes focuses too much on other people, she forgets her own feelings. Burying them deep, one rarely gets past the first layer of merriment. In truth, she wants to be able to let her emotions run free despite the consequences.
SECRET(S): She fears accidentally enhancing someone’s hormones too much. Also, her past is something she would rather people not know.
FATHER: Kendall Pearce (not mutant)
MOTHER: Joy Jackson (mutant, hormone manipulation), Maria Pearce (maiden name: Michaels, step-mother, not mutant)
SIBLINGS: Max Vincent Pearce (half-brother, 15, not mutant)
WORTHY MENTIONS: Rylee Gordon (her patient and main priority)
CHILDHOOD: Her parents were never married. In college, Joy loved a man who did not feel the same way so she manipulated his feelings. She soon became pregnant with his baby. When he found out about the deceit, Kendall broke it off though kept her powers a secret. Still, he helped to provide for their daughter.
She had a fair upbringing. Her father visited her often but her parents could barely stand to be in the same room with each other. Her mother never forgave him for walking out. Darcy never suspected that her emotions during childhood had been manipulated--her mother enhanced her more positive hormones to make them seem normal. Honestly, this part of her life was blurry.
ADOLESCENCE: Her transition to this phase was blurry too but she started to see things more clearly as she grew up. Her mother became less tolerant and used her powers regularly, creating a chemical imbalance within her. Darcy started to realize that her feelings were not under her control. Joy was able to make her do things by enhancing certain emotions. Her father’s new wife and son did not help her psyche. Kendall visited less often till not at all.
When her manifestation came at age 13, it was a relief. Where most people were unnerved by this event, she welcomed it as she was able to control how she felt. She had always been an odd girl--goth, to be stereotypical--so manipulating others was kind of fun for her. But she did not get to do this for very long as Bellefonte took her in. There, under better supervision, she had to restrain herself.
ADULTHOOD: She definitely matured over the years. Gone were the dark clothes and makeup, and in with the cardigans and floral skirts. After graduating, she did not attend college at Bellefonte. She decided to take up psychology to understand her powers better--she also broke off communications with her family. She also learned more about the human mind. She did well for herself and became a therapist who specialised in psychology. The SPRITE did not affect her.
When the existence of mutants was publicly acknowledged, not many wanted to be treated by the hormone manipulative doctor. Though she never used her powers on them, the patients or their family were hesitant to trust her. Luckily one patient remained. When Rylee Gordon, who was a mutant as well, started attending Bellefonte, Darcy moved there to join her. As a school therapist, she also works with the other students as well though Rylee is her main priority. Still, her office is open to all.
SAMPLE:Darcy took the plate of freshly baked brownies from her desk and held it out to the young girl. These brownies contained chocolate which she knew gave off happy hormones--she found, through experience, that this helped when dealing with her more skittish patients. This was the only way she would evermanipulateinfluence another's feelings. After the girl took a piece, Darcy placed the plate and her own mug of hot chocolate--yes, she, too, needed it--onto the table in front of her.
"To what do I owe the pleasure?" She rarely got unexpected visits from her patients, especially since the existence of mutants were revealed. But she was also known for keeping her door open to anyone during her free time. She rarely went anywhere else, really. "Tell me what has you so jumpy," she said calmly as she went behind her desk and unlocked a drawer, pulling it out. A doctor must be organized so it was easy for her to find her patient's file and got it out. She also took her pen and journal in which she recorded every session she had--be it planned or otherwise.
Darcy sat on the armchair across from the girl and opened her journal up on her lap. Just another day on the job.
