Ashlin Hale
FACE CLAIM: Maddie Hasson
---------------------------------
AGE: 16
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Student
POWER: Plant Manipulation. Ashlin can control or try to, manipulate all forms of plant life. She's just now coming into her powers good enough to where she can control some things without it going out of control. She's able to make a flower seed grow into a flower bud and make the grass grow a little longer than it is for right now. She is able to use this power by touching the plant with her hands. Her powr is only tailored to grass, flowers and small vines right now.She doesn't not have the power to manipulate the growth of something huge like a tree.
LIMITATIONS: Of course when she gets a bit mad she tends to let her power control her. She unknowingly uses her power when her emotions get the best of her. If she is standing on grass or touching a flower when she gets mad or sad, it will grow alittle bit till her physical presence is no longer on the plant life. She can only try and grow a plant and control a certain amount for a few minutes at a time and right now her limit is 2 without getting too tired. She's working on her limitations everyday to make the time longer. Ashlin has to physically touch a plant in order for it to grow.
SIDE-EFFECTS: Ashlin often gets major headaches to where she has to lay down for a few hours and even pop a few extra strength pain relievers. The dietary issues she never really understood but she was a bit happy that she would be able to grow her own vegetables since she was a vegetarian. It's also a hassle that when she uses her power, Ashlin gets fatigued. The power drains her more the longer she uses it. It'll usually take about half a day for her to recover.
HEIGHT: 5'6
HAIR COLOR: Blonde
EYE COLOR: Sky Blue
MISC: She has about 3 piercings in each ear with studs in all of them. No tattoos to mention because of course she's too young for them. She has a small scar on the back of her left hand from her not being able to control her power.
PERSONALITY: Ashlin is kind of a calm person, she mainly keeps to herself because she's afraid to let people in. She's a bit of a sarcastic girl who will tell you about yourself when she feels you need to hear it. Although she is very sarcastic, Ashlin is very emotional, although she tries to put on a brave face for people around her, but when you get to know her, you'll find out that she is the sweetest thing ever. Once she cares for you she'll always care for you, you'd have to do something pretty terrible to her for her to never talk to you again.
Of course when she gets mad, then I'd suggest you walk the other way. For such a short girl, Ashlin Hale can pack a mean punch. Her temper is very short so she has no patience for people who do stupid things to annoy her. She'll mainly ignore you if she feels you are the type of person who would pick on her or make any kind of trouble for her.
SECRET(S): None
FATHER: Peter, Hale
MOTHER: Janice, Hale
SIBLINGS: None
WORTHY MENTIONS: She has a little leopard gecko named Riku that's all orange with a thick black line trailing down her back from her nose to the tip of her tail. Ashlin first acquired Riku when it was just a few weeks old from her local pet shop. Her mom freaked out a bit at first, but she finally came around when she saw that the little reptile was a bit low maintenance and Ashlin was doing a good job taking care of it.
CHILDHOOD: The childhood at the Hale Residence was pretty normal. Ashlin was the only child and she loved it that way because it meant she got all her parents love and affection, well at least from her father. Ashlin's mom Janice Hale was a flight attendant for Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta Georgia, which she has done for 10 years. In fact that is where her parents met for the first time. It was on a flight going to New York City and Peter was one of those passengers who was a bit annoying always asking for extra condiments.
Two years after meeting, the two lovers were married, and a year after that they had baby Ashlin. It wasn't immediate, but after the baby was born Janice found herself missing the friendly skies so she decided to go back to work and leave Peter at home to take care of the baby. It was hard on Peter but he made the best of it and got help from family members when needed. He loved raising his little girl but there were just things that Janice would be able to do better than him and he sort of resented her for going back to work so soon.
Ashlin was a young child so she really didn't understand why mommy wasn't around for several birthdays, family functions or holidays. Ashlin knew she was a spoiled little child, her dad bought her all the new toys and dolls that had just came out, had various birthday parties for her with different themes and bought her every flavor ice cream she could imagine. But one thing was still missing, she just wished her mom would put her own selfish needs aside and be a mother.
ADOLESCENCE: "What the hell was that?" Ashlin screamed as she nearly tumbled backwards. With her pink beats in her ears and Paramore's Ain't It Fun blasting in her ears, she was walking home from picking up new school clothes for this year. She had just gotten off the phone with her mother, who unfortunately told her that she wouldn't be home at least for a few more days. To say that she was pissed was a bit of a understatement. At the age of 15, Ashlin has only seen her mother a few days at a time because she was always on this flight or that flight going to different states and countries. She knew that was what flight attendants had to do but she at least thought her mom would slow down a bit since her only daughter was becoming of age. The age where she was just now getting interested in boys and she was pretty much hitting puberty.
It was becoming a bit annoying to her now, she knew she wasn't the only kid with a flight attendant for a parent, "But what 15 year old growing girl doesn't want or need their mother around?" Ashlin quietly asked herself as her newly painted fingernails softly touched the petals of some lilies that she was walking by. She could feel her rage just boiling inside because she wanted her mother to be here right at this moment shopping with her and doing other things that teenage girls do with their mothers. As she was about to walk away, she noticed one of the lilies buds start to grow. With a small shrug, she just thought maybe the shop owner had some of that magic grow she saw advertised on TV. Her fingers continued to trace an imaginary line across the flowers, she once again noticed that the buds began to grow. Now it was getting a bit weird. The growing buds had her stuck for a moment and she didn't see a little piece of the sidewalk missing, Ashlin stumbled and almost fell flat on her face. The random people in the street starting staring at her as she straightened herself out, "What the hell was that?" she asked herself as her pace quickened towards home.
"DAD? DAD are you home?" the girl shouted into a obviously empty home. Ashlin kicked off her sneakers by the front door then sat her bags on the couch before going into the kitchen. Living with her dad has been hard, especially since he was basically a hardcore carnivore and petite Ashlin was a vegetarian. Grabbing her salad and bottled water from the fridge, her little body flopped on the couch and began to dig in. Her mind wandered back to the little buds then her bright blue eyes looked down at her hands, she couldn't help but wonder what happened. "Ugh, I have to start having a better balanced diet. My head feels like it's about to pop." she said to herself as she opened her messenger bag and took out her pain pills and popped two before laying down on the couch where she would wait for her dad to get home.
"My little Ash why must you always fall asleep with food on the couch? Once of these days we'll be over run by ants." laughed her father as he lightly tapped her shoulder then pick up her half eaten salad from off her lap. Ashlin stretched as she crawled off the couch, "Dad don't be so over dramatic, it's not even that much foor in there. And I highly doubt ants would be interested in my plain salad." she said as she tiptoed and gave her seemly tall father a kiss on the cheek. "I picked up my outfit for my birthday party, all that's left is to send out the invitations, order the cake, pick up the balloons and hoping try and con mom into taking a few days off to be here for this." Her dad looked at her with a awkward smile, "Don't worry Ash, I took care of all those things. I even called your mother and told her about it, She said she was going to come."
The smile on Ashlin's face could mirror how she looked when she had gotten her first barbie doll, the smile of a little girl knowing her mother was putting her first for once. She skipped all the way to the couch to show her dad her birthday dress which was a army fatigue with shoulder pads and the black combat boots she wore to match. "Very uh....very unique." laughed her dad. He loved how unique his daughter was and she sure did have her own sense of style.
It was time, time for her party and time for the guest to arrive. It had been a little over a weel since that incident with the lily buds happened. Nothing weird had happened since then and for that Ashlin was happy. She just hoped everything went according to plan....smooth. Her dad had to work that dad but he helped her set everything up before leaving and he promised he'd only work half the day and be home before the party even started. The short and petite now 16 year old looked over herself in the mirror and smiled, "I look pretty hot if I do say so myself." Making her way down stairs, she glanced over everything and made sure things were in the right place. Her dad ran inside the house in front of a few party guest like speed racer, "Sorry Ash, the traffic was just really horid. I'll go clean myself up right away," he looked back and smiled his charming smile at the 2 girls and 4 boys then back to Ashlin, "by the way, some guests have arrived." Ashlin nodded then ushered him up the stairs before making her way to her guests.
Things were going pretty smoothly. All of her invited guests seemed like they were having a good time. Ashlin was feeling all over for her phone, she heard it ringing but this dress had so many pockets that she just knew whoever was calling would probably hang up by the time she found it. Got it! she thought. "Party central, birthday girl speaking." said Ashlin into the phone. "Hey darling, I know I told your dad I would be able to make it to your party, but the airport needed me to hop on a connecting flight as soon as I got into Atlanta. Baby I'm so sorry but I will be sending you one of those weird comic books you like from Japan ok?" It took everything she had not to scream. This was just the last draw, she was tired of getting broken promises from somebody who is suppose to be her mother. The anger inside was boiling over now and she could feel herself shaking. Her bright baby blues looked around at all her party guests and she just shook her head. "NO, IT'S NOT OK MOM! IT'S MY DAMN BIRTHDAY. I'M 16 DON'T YOU THINK YOU'VE MISSED ENOUGH OF THEM ALREADY? WHAT IS A COMIC BOOK GOING TO DO FOR ME?" she screamed into the phone. Her dad ran his way over to her and tried to take the phone away but stopped immediately when he saw something strange happening at Ashlin's feet.
"UGH, YOU ONLY THINK ABOUT YOURSELF! SINCE YOUR NEVER HERE, YOU SHOULD JUST STAY GONE, DAD AND I HAVE BEEN DOING JUST FINE WITHOUT YOU." she screamed some more. The more she screamed the more she could feel all the pain and anger welling up inside her. The guests as well as her dad just stood there staring at her as they witnessed the grass at her feet growing longer as she screamed into the phone at her mother. Her dad snatched the phone from her hands and ushered her inside of the house. "Sorry everyone, party is over, please take some cake and food with you and thank you for coming." said her dad as he hung up the phone without so much as a word to his wife. Ashlin ran up the stairs to her bedroom and slammed then door then locked it. Her dad knew she would just have to calm down, there was no talking to her when she was like this. He made his way back out to the yard and stood there staring at the longer grass where Ashlin was standing. "Hmmm, that was peculiar." said his dad as he started to clean up what was suppose to be the best sweet 16.
The slam of the front door is what awoke Ashlin from her slumber. She was about to yell out to her father when she heard him speak, "I am just having a hard time understanding what it is that your telling me." she heard her dad say in a confused and angry tone. Being that she didn't hear another set of footsteps, Ashlin peeked up and saw two unfamiliar people standing in their kitchen in front of her dad. "Mr. Hale, what Miss Sharpe and myself are saying is that your daughter is a very special girl. Of course we don't have to tell you that, you are the one who raised her." Now Ashlin was even more curious about what was happening because it involved her. "You see Mr. Hale, Ashlin inherited something very special. A gift of sorts. My colleague and myself here, recruit these magnificent kids and bring them to our school so they can learn how to control their gifts." said the confident man.
Ashlin got up from the couch and entered the kitchen catching them all by surprise. With her arms crossed and her hip leaning against the wall she asked, "And what is this gift if you don't mind me asking since this conversation seems to be about me." Her dad smiled sideways and his eyes darted from the two people then to his loving daughter. The two strangers smiled as they were now facing Ashlin. They looked her over, it was like they were expecting something else but were glad to see this regular teenage girl standing in front of them. "Well out with it. What is this gift you speak of? I am more than intrigued seeing as how my dad would not let strangers come into his home especially not asking to ship his only daughter away to some school. If you ask me it sounds like some kind of kiddie sweat shop….no offense." The two strangers laughed and the blunt way the 16 year old spoke. "Well Ashlin, we are recruiters for a school where kids like yourself are able to go and control their gifts. What gifts you ask? Well it may be hard to take in, but you my dear have the gift for plant manipulation. You are able to touch plants and make them grow. Of course right now your powers are just beginning to manifest so you can't make a seed grow into a full grown flower just yet. And we were alerted here by an event that happened here yesterday afternoon."
The incident with the lilies that happened a few days ago as well as the grass incident from yesterday and wondered if she should mention it to them. There was no way she trusted these people that just popped into her home talking about things that she only read in comic books and saw on TV. With a deep sigh, Ashlin looked from her father then to the floor, "There was something strange that happened a few days ago and yesterday like you said." she said as she walked over to a bouquet of Orchids that her mother had sent her for her 16th birthday, which was 2 days away. "I was getting upset about my mother not being home to shop with me for my birthday and I was running my fingers along some lily buds at the flower shop down the block," she said quietly as her fingers mimicked what they did earlier. "and one of them started to grow, then the more I touched, the rest of the buds started to grow as well. I know…..I know this sounds crazy. Like maybe they use that super expensive magic grow fertilizer on them or something....right?" she questioned as her baby blues looked up to her father and she noticed the care and love in his eyes for her. "Then yesterday I was screaming at my mother on the phone because she wasn't coming to my party and the grass where I was standing started to grow." she said as she pointed out the window for the two of them to look at the grass in the back yard.
"Well Miss Ashlin, that is true. Those incidents did happen because of you and your high emotional state. You are able to control and manipulate all plant life. Of course, your powers are just now starting to come forth so it's no wonder you are very confused about what happen. It seems like your power is tied to your emotions. I would also say that a side effect of this particular power are very bad headaches as well as fatigue." Ashlin's eyes widened as the man spoke. After coming home that day, she did get this very painful headache that only popping some pain pills could help. If there was a chance that she had this…power, she wanted to find out more about it, but being away from the only parent that cared for her was a bit scary. "Little Ash, I can just see the wheels in your head turning. I know your scared but I can also see that you are curious. I sure don't want you away from me" her dad paused and titled her chin up so that her eyes were focused on him, "but if you need to go to this school to understand what's happening to you then you have my blessing little Ash."
"I hate to say this, But when we come into contact with these gifted kids, we bring them to our school right away to avoid any sort of exposure of our world. I know it'll be hard to say goodbye but it's not goodbye forever. By the way, my name is Noah Gray. " Ashlin and her dad nodded their head and hugged each other. Who would have though this would be happened to her. What would this new school be like, what are the kids like, would she make any friends? So many thought flooded her mind as she made her way up to her room and played some Paramore on the loudest volume it could go to drown out the many thoughts in her head as she packed for her new life.
ADULTHOOD: N/A
SAMPLE: "WOW" Was all she could say as she stepped out of the black town car that brought her from her home to the new school she would be attending. It was really hard leaving her dad at home alone, she was sure that he could take care of himself since he did such a great job caring for them both for 16 years. It was mainly herself that she was worried about. She didn't know if she would fit in with all these other special kids. Before she left out of her home, she gave her dad a hug that felt like she would never see or speak to him again. They both cried then he kissed her forehead and told her to go get em.
Ashlin picked up her duffle bag and followed the two recruiters to what she assumed was the office. Her eyes darted back and forth, following all the kids that were just walking around or talking to one another. Seemed like everyone was split into groups like a normal school would be, and here she was coming in at the middle of the school year, "Great. Nothing sucks more than being the new girl." she said quietly as her paced quickened to avoid being lost in the huge crowd that was gathering. Going through a pair of large oak doors, Ashlin bumped into a tall pretty boy with the most hypnotizing green eyes. "Um, uh...sorry." The boy smiled and nodded as he made his exit but not without locking eyes with her once more. A small smile appeared on her face as she felt her cheeks glow bright red due to the embarrassment of maybe already being labeled the clumsy new girl.
"Well here you are Miss Ashlin. Just wait for the admin and she'll explain everything you need to know about Bellafonte academy. Welcome to the most exciting school you'll ever have the pleasure of being in. I'm sure we'll be bumping into each other again." Ashlin raised an eyebrow and wondered if that whole bumping into thing was a crack at her earlier failed walking debacle. She nodded then made herself comfortable in the plush leather chair and cranked up the volume of her phone to calm her nerves a bit. "Well I'm sure it's a bit late to go running out, so here goes nothing Ashlin, you can do this." she said to herself then took a deep breathe.
