Richard Samuel Buckles
FACE CLAIM: Iwan Rheon
---------------------------------
AGE: 18
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Student
POWER: Hyper-physics- Richard's brain processes his surroundings more like a computer does in relation to understanding kinetic energy. Instead of having to do calculations consciously his subconscious does it for him. This gives him increased ability to aim projectiles as his mind calculates trajectory with an object in seconds. Given his ability to understand kinetic energy he has the appearance of increased athletic ability and reflexes.
LIMITATIONS:
Hyper-physics: The use of this ability requires mental focus and stability. Strong emotions can cause his ability to faulter and become unable to process properly. An apparent increase in athletes-ism it due to the fact that he knows how to manipulate himself or objects more effectively and does not do anything that anyone else could not do with the proper knowledge. His physical reflexes are no different than anyone else just his mental understanding of situations. This gives him reflexes that of an Olympic athlete. His response to an object headed towards him that he is aware of is only hundredths of a second faster than a normal humans.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
The use of Hyper-physics processing is usually only active when he has a direct goal beyond just basic normal tasks. If he continues to use it a building mental tensions comes on that will build into a low grade headache that will grow more and more severe till reaching a migraine. The harder the task the more the strain. As well as mental fatigue he will experience any physical pain that anyone would for doing tasks his body is not well trained for. Rest is the solution to this though sleep is better.
HEIGHT: 5'11"
HAIR COLOR: Dark Brown
EYE COLOR: Blue-Green
MISC: Real simple minded fellow when it comes to fashion. Usually just around in t-shirts and jeans on his own times unless he is out hunting. He had a two inch wide scar the under side of his arm.
PERSONALITY: Richard is a warm hearted person that is very liberal about many things so he accepts people for who they are. He is pretty out going socially. Usually he warms up much faster if doing a shared activity particularly playing sports. He loves the out doors and with that, as well as sports, he enjoys camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, rock climbing. His love of the outdoors does have something to do with a strong sense of claustrophobia, seeing as it is hard to feel trapped in at all while out in the open air. He is a kind and happy type of person most of the times, positive and hard working.
He believes loyalty is very important and that you need to be able to trust fully those you rely on. When he feels like he is failing to learn or do something he starts getting wound up bit by bit making the difficulties worse. If he gets to a point he will lash out emotionally and verbally in frustration. On the other side of things when he is very good at something he can be a bit showy while not being cocky about it. Making a half court shot in basketball while making him smile he would not make a big deal about it.
SECRET(S):
FATHER: Earl Buckles
MOTHER: Sharon Buckles
SIBLINGS: Aaron Buckles, John Buckles
WORTHY MENTIONS: His black labrador Wallace.
CHILDHOOD: Richard was born the youngest child of three. He was born and raised on a dairy farm just outside of the township of Sylvan, Minnesota. His older brothers as he got older of course teased and harassed him, playing jokes. One that left a bit more of a mark than any of the others was when he was five. They tricked him into getting into a large suit case then proceeded to latch it closed on him leaving him trapped inside for several hours. Until he was old enough to help with the cows he would help around the house with mom cleaning the house and in the garden.
School was always a bit of a challenge when he was younger as he had trouble sitting still and focusing at all. He did always play the school sports starting with baseball at the age of six. That was leading him to want more so within a few more years he was playing basketball, wrestling, and hockey. Of course most young boys he was eager to go hunting with his dad and his brothers. He was allows to practice with a BB gun on cans but not any real gun until he was 11. That is when he was getting trained to go on hunting trips himself.
ADOLESCENCE: Starting middle school he already had his oldest brother leave for college as he was 8 years older than him. Receiving a academic scholarship to go to Minnesota State in Minneapolis. While it was a big deal having his brother leave home he quickly would have that excitement of getting to go on his first successful hunt put it behind him. He managed to bag a medium size Ruffed Grouse in the Pillsbury National Park at 13. That would be the start of many hunting trips he took with his father and brothers.
While in high school he seemed to have outgrown is attention issues for the most part. He still played sports but eliminated wrestling and basketball and took up football when he was a sophomore. He was hoping to play well enough to get into college on a scholarship like his brother Aaron had for football. Now here was 16 and the only of the three still living at home. Though sometimes he hated his brothers because of how they picked on him he was missing them now that they were gone.
He had been giving the military a bit of thought now and decided he wanted to try to become an officer in the Marine Corp. He buckled down on the books very hard but he still managed only around B's usually. He was struggling to do better so he could get academic scholarship assistance if sports scholarships would fail. By the time it was his senior year he did not score high enough GPA or play well enough in any sports to full fill his dream.
ADULTHOOD: In the spring of 2015 he was graduating high school with no ability to attend college other than through student loans. So he had an idea through some research he had read about how you can join the Marines as enlisted then use the bill that would give him a free college education to go to school and maintain his ties to the Corp through on campus ROTC. Then after college if he had a degree and scored well enough on his SAT he could go through officer training.
He knew it would be a long way around but he was determined to do it. It was maybe a bit ambitious but after talks with his guidance counselor he decided he wanted to have a clear goal with his life. He wasn't as smart as John or as athletic as Aaron but he was more certain than they were when they were his age about what they wanted out of his life. The opportunity to serve his country and protect those around him.
This was the sentiment that made when his late in life manifestation such a wrecking time. He had his life all planned out and he made it through to week 8 of his training before the event. It was the week of live fire exercises. He had been only doing slightly above average at the start it wasn't till the day of the test did anything strange happen. He fired perfectly into the target, he was shocked by the result himself as were his superiors. That is when he came across the desk of the school. And within 16 days they had him in custody and transporting him to the school.
SAMPLE:
(Hopefully you don't mind that I am taking this from two points in time.)
Day 64 of boot camp
The road was empty with the only break from the concrete and the surrounding foliage was the sight of 300 young men coming around the bend in the road all in blue shirts and green shorts. They were all sweating heavily as it was the last bit of the P.T. run. They were handling it relative ease as they had been doing the same everyday for months now. A sharp sounding voice of their leader rang out "Alright that's enough of that now everyone make your way back the last bit and hit the chow line!" A resounding sound of all of them shot out "YES SIR!" as most of them blazed their way the last quarter mile.
Richard wasn't charging his way up as he knew you had to let your body cool down after a long run no matter how hungry you are. He wanted to be ready for today on the range especially since it was rest day and they would earn their Rifleman Badge. He was hoping to do better than he had in practice. He was sure he could get the Sharpshooter level one but had been hoping for Expert. He was stretching with his arms out on either side as he walked along side three other guys from his squad.
Their conversation was sort of fuzzy to him as he was so focused on the range test later he didn't say much of anything even after reaching the dinning hall. He went through the line feeling sort of strange like he was moving on automatic. He sat down with his fellow recruits and gunned through his food. What snapped him out of it was a backhand to the arm as someone made a joke and he was zoned out. It was his squad mate Mike "Hey man you alright? You been a zombie since the run."
Richard smiles laughing a bit shaking his head "Yeah...yeah just fine Mike." he said as he sat his fork down.
"Are you all up in your head about the range test this afternoon?" he asked Richard.
Richard replied "No, no that I am not worried about. I am sure I wont have one bit of problem passing unlike the rest of your sorry bastard."
The guys started laughing as Mike punched Richard on the arm "Oh look whose cocking an attitude now."
Breakfast finished and now was the time for them report to their barracks and clean their guns. They were being called 10 at a time for the test but even at the pace it would take quite a while for the hundreds in his battalion alone. Richard took the time to go over in his head his firing practices earlier in the week. Till finally it was his platoons time up. They were all dressed in full camouflage and helmet. There was a single file line as each group was brought up one at a time. All made to aim 10 single shot rounds from each position of standing, kneeling, and prone. Then followed up by kneeling for a 5 shot of automatic fire.
Richard's group was up he took aiming position at the fresh target. Removing his safety he waited for the instruction. "FIRE!" he heard and pulled the trigger with aim taken. He only struck into the shoulder "FIRE!" came in a bellowing shout. This time he landed into where the heart would. "FIRE!" he had corrected entirely and now hit dead center. He continued shooting from the other two positions with his weapon discharging on each command in spaces side by side. The bullet holes all grouped together so tightly there was a whole the side of a soft ball.
"HALT! WEAPONS TO SAFETY!" The instructors watching over there respective recruit were all eying Richard's target. There was some discussion which Richard was paying no attention to as he was focused on waiting for orders and performing on the test. After a few moments of discussion they sent someone down to change out Richard's target.
"RELOAD MAGAZINES WITH FIVE SHOTS!" the order came out. Richard swiftly unlocked his gun and pulled the clip out and reloaded the empty magazine with five bullets. Then shunting it back up into the weapon and drawing back to aim. "FIRE!" was resounded after a few moment. He pulled the trigger back firing the rounds with greater reaction he hit his target like before making a circle that led to one large hole.
Day 80 of boot camp
Richard was sitting in a small room with a table and a pair of chairs on either side of it. It looked like an interrogation room almost but he was not shackled at all. He was in the middle of the crucible when they had someone come out into the field and pull him out. He was nervous, feeling nothing but anxiety inside about what this was all about. He sat still with his hand held together as he poured over in his mind what he did wrong possibly to deserve this but he couldn't find the answer.
Besides the sense of uncertainty of why he was here the room was a bit small and cluttered and that was slightly agitating his mind. Feeling a bit closed in on he was intentionally breathing in and out very deeply. He was waiting for 17 minutes before the door shot open and the commander of the base entered. He immediate shot to standing and saluted like his training as taught him.
"At ease recruit." the General stated with a folder in hand. "Do you know why you are here Recruit?"
Richard furrowed his brow in concern as he didn't know the answer "No Sir I do not."
The General opened the file and pulled out the targets from his live fire test and unfolded them placing them down. "Your scores were the best I have ever seen. Honestly I did not know what to make of this at first but then we were contacted by an group. Son I hate to bare this bad news but you are being pulled from the training program."
Richard's eyes shot open as his face started to turn red and his breathing became a bit ragged "What? What did I do wrong Sir?" he said with a quiver in his voice.
"Nothing but I need you to understand that we are pulling you from the program here. I came in to break the news but the specifics will be handled by a another person come to collect you. Take a few moments to compose yourself and I Will send them right in." The General then exited the room.
Richard slammed his fists onto the table as he gritted his teeth with a strained scream held back by a closed mouth. He felt like his future was pulled out from under him in one instance. His hands curled in tighter, clenching his fists together as he was breathing hard trying to calm himself down. He couldn't understand why he was being dropped. He was thinking back to the start of training when he was keeping up the same as rest. It was the live fire test where thinks started improving. Though while his results had been doing better at the end of every day he was more and more tired with headaches forming.
He knew he couldn't flip out right here on base he calmed himself down after some heavy breathes. Quickly after he had composed himself the door opened once again. The camera's in the room which he hadn't noticed before were suddenly turned off. There stood a gentleman in a suit smiling politely.
He walked himself in and sat down across the table from Richard. "Hello Richard. Would you mind taking a seat?" Richard obliged and sat down. "Thank you so much. Now I know the Brigadier General Bierman informed you how you are being dropped from the Marine Training program. The question is do you know why?"
Richard shook his head "No he didn't mention it."
The mean then puts his hands on the targets Richard had shot at "Well it would be because of these right here." there came a small pause after he said that "I know it seems odd that they would choose to drop you because of these. I mean this are amazing. I heard it was a new record on base. Almost for the corp itself with the M-16anyways. I know you must be upset but I am here to tell you that you are going to become a Marine if you really want to."
Richard loosened the fists as his body relaxed after he was told he could still join the core. He exhaled sharply as he started breathing normally, he sat down now listening to the man. "I still join the Corp?"
The man nodded "Just think of this as special training. And you will get to go to college out of it as well if you so desire to." He pulled out of a case a file that he opened up "So I see you have some experience with hunting of small game is that correct?"
Richard nodded "Yes Sir I have been hunting for a while now."
"But you have never fired an assault weapon before it shows. So how is it you think you manage to score so perfectly? Being a quick study only accounts so far. Can you explain?"
Richard shook his head lightly as he replied "No I can't. I just shot once and I just knew where to aim to get to my target after that."
"Says here after that as well your martial arts training seemed to accelerate to the point that the instructor was the only viable sparring partner. Do you have any combat skill training before you came to the Corp?"
Richard thought that over "No Sir. I mean I rumbled with my brothers some but not anything like I learned here."
"With such a rapid improvement from now where there was a thought it might have been drugs. But before they even cleared it out you were brought to our attention."
That is when he explained to Richard about he school and how he was gifted.
