Riley Forrester
FACE CLAIM: Ruby Rose
---------------------------------
AGE: 19
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
POSITION: College Student
POWER: Voice/Sound Mimicry
Riley has the ability to mimic any sound or voice she's previously heard and can even combine sounds to make a strange mixture. She does so by focusing to skillfully manipulate her vocal cords to produce the sound she wants. If she really focuses, she can even make multiple sounds at once. However, this strains her throat and cords even more, so she can't do it as frequently or long without hurting herself.
LIMITATIONS:
In order for Riley to mimic a sound or mix sounds, she has to hear them first. Then she has to focus on making the sound in order for it to work. She can only make sounds that her vocal cords will allow for, almost like the lyre bird. However, she can't mimic white noise or a sonic scream because her vocal cords can't build up that high amount of pressure. She also can't mimic exceedingly high pitch noises.
In order for her to "split her voice" and make multiple sounds at once, like before she has to have heard the sounds before in order to mimic them. Doing this puts a lot more pressure on her vocal cords and can make her lose her voice much quicker than her just imitating one sound or voice.
Riley's ability requires oxygen for her to use it. If she can't breath, she can't use it.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
Overusing her ability will make Riley's throat raw and sore, and thus make her voice raspy and harsh. Extreme overuse can even make her start to cough up blood. She also will get massive headaches if she imitates a sound too frequently. If she really goes over the limit, she can even lose her voice temporarily.
HEIGHT: 5'6"
HAIR COLOR: Black
EYE COLOR: Brown.
MISC: Riley has a very lean form and barely a chest to speak of. With her short hair, if she dresses right she can look like a very feminine boy. She's attractive in a sort of tomboyish, punk-rock way. She wears a lot of dark clothes and jeans. On her left shoulder is a tattoo of a curling dragon. She can get mistaken for being a boy sometimes depending on her clothing choice
PERSONALITY: Riley's name fits her perfectly. She is by nature what she is by name. She's a confident tomboy who isn't afraid to get dirty and who isn't afraid to let loose. Although she is very laid back and chill, she can just as easily get energetic and loud when she wants to or when she's excited. She also has a habit of being mischievous and getting into trouble just for fun. It doesn't take much to make her smile and laugh, but it does take a lot for her to trust someone.
When she does, she's a loyal friend- if a bit sarcastic and majorly sassy. As she puts it; "If you didn't want my sass then you shouldn't have approached me." With friends, she's willing to sit and listen if they've got problems, and will go to the ends of the earth for those she considers close enough and trustworthy enough.
However, Riley can also get very irritable if she's in a bad mood or dealing with something/someone she really doesn't want to. She's not afraid to show when she hates someone, and it's hard for her to conceal her feelings. She may take a while to anger, but once she does it's obvious. And once she's pissed, she is vicious. She also generally doesn't care about other people's opinions on her, so she can come off as pretty rude.
SECRET(S): Any secrets your character has that no one (or few) people know about? If there's something you don't want the others to know, you still have to message a staff member about it.
FATHER: Devin, Forrester
MOTHER: Alice, Forrester
SIBLINGS: Richard, Walter, Carly, Lily
WORTHY MENTIONS: Lily
CHILDHOOD: Born as the fourth child among five kids, Riley wasn't really looked after as much as her other siblings. Her family was a very rich one, with her father owning a very successful hotel chain and her mother owning an equally successful restaurant chain. Some have even speculated that the marriage was more strategic than love-influenced, but that's a story for another time. From the very beginning, Riley proved herself to be the more troublesome kid of the group. She was independent for a child, and didn't really get along with her elder siblings. Richard was an obvious playboy, Walter was an asshole, and Carly was a manipulative bitch in Riley's eyes. Her parents were simply uncaring. Still, Riley managed to have fun in her own way.
While she might've been a bit of a pain in the neck to her family, she was awesome in the sight of her friends. Tomboyish and more than willing to get dirty, Riley seemed practically fearless in the face of her peers. She might not have had a ton of friends, but the ones she attracted usually shared her outgoing disposition or at least were infected with her easy-going and cheerful nature. Riley was riley by both name and personality, and her friends loved it.
From an early age, Riley's love of music also became apparent. Instead of asking for dolls, clothes, or action figures, Riley begged for CD's and records to listen to. There wasn't any genre that Riley hated, but she was mostly interested in any song that happened to have a guitar. Since music seemed to be the one thing that could calm her down, Riley's parents agreed to buying her any music she wanted basically.
Then when Riley turned 8, her little sister Lily was born. Riley took an instant interest in the baby, and didn't want her ending up like her 'stuck up' older siblings. So, Riley spent a lot of time with her younger sibling, and as the years went on the two became extremely close. Lily remains the sole link Riley really has back to her family to this day.
ADOLESCENCE: The teens for Riley were filled with the similar type of shenanigans that filled Riley's childhood. Only this time, Riley was allowed a lot more freedom than before. Her parents had all but forgotten her, yet Riley didn't care too much. Instead, she took advantage of his invisibility to do as she pleased when she pleased. She managed to talk her parents into buying her a guitar, and Riley began to teach herself how to play. Lily would come into her room sometimes to hear the older girl play, and was wonderfully supportive of Riley.
Meanwhile, in school, she managed to make friends with a lot of the kids labeled as "punks" by the rest of the school's social hierarchy. Whereas the rest of the school saw a bunch of rebellious, attention seeking pests who barely cared for their education, Riley's view was vastly different. They were fun-loving like her- and if they weren't initially they soon grew to be around the dark-haired girl's extreme confidence. A lot of them actually did very well in school too, Riley amongst the ones who got straight A's almost 95% of the time. And like Riley, some of them were really into music. Enough to even form something of a band. They mostly did covers and performed in the nearby park on weekends just for fun, but they were surprisingly good. Enough to become something of urban celebrities.
But then Riley's abilities manifested because of course they had to some day. It happened when Riley was 16. She and her sister were watching some movies together at home when their parents were out at a business dinner and their siblings were either at college or out partying. This the two younglings were left alone to do as they pleased. So, naturally, they decided to watch Godzilla just for the hell of it. During one of the scenes where Godzilla appeared, Lily commented on how the big monster sounded. As a joke Riley made to mockingly imitate the sound, but ended up completely copying the sound. Both girls were utterly shocked, and Riley kept coughing from the sudden strain on her vocal cords at making such a sound. She was stuck with the noise for a few minutes before her own voice finally came back. Although spooked, both girls were interested at Riley's sudden skill at imitating things. For a while, they played around with it carefully, listening to different sound clips of things on the internet before having Riley attempt to imitate them. Eventually they stopped when Riley got a massive headache and felt like her throat had been scraped raw.
The two kept Riley's abilities a secret from the rest of their family, but Riley came clean about it with her group of friends. While they initially freaked out, they didn't shun her. Riley was still Riley. Energetic, mischievous, confident Riley. The only difference was that she could make some different kinds of noises now. So Riley's life went on as usual for awhile. But eventually, a recruiter came for her seven days later.
Her parents were indifferent to the whole ordeal and didn't really care that their fourth daughter was being taken away. The only one who cried at the news was Lily, and she was the only one Riley kept in touch with once she left. Riley also had to say goodbye to all of her friends at school, and promised to keep in touch with them no matter where she ended up. Where she ended up turned out to be the Academy of Acton Vale, since Riley's powers weren't anything too serious and Riley herself wasn't too much trouble when she had to go.
Riley turned out to love the academy. She had been expecting an extremely strict prison where she was forced into shape to control her powers. Instead, she was led to a beautiful school with very relaxed professors and a lot of freedom to do as she wanted (within reason of course). Riley was thrilled and actually did very well at the school. Meanwhile, she would also talk to her friends back home and Skype when they wanted to have a little jam session. To Riley's approval, Lily had started hanging out with her group of friends as well even when their parents were not so happy about it. The group accepted their leader's little sister readily, and even more so when they figured out Lily was an amazing singer. Riley was happy to see them all doing so well, and they were excited for her in return.
As the years went on, Riley grew better and better and using her ability to mimic sounds and voices. She also managed to get her friends and Lily up to visit her in Acton Vale a few times. She loved having them there with her, even if the trips were brief. It was hard getting Lily to visit more so than Riley's buddies most because the Forresters did not approve of their youngest hanging out with such punkish and rebellious kids. But the few times she managed to go, Riley milked every ounce of joy out of their time together
ADULTHOOD: Originally, Riley wasn't going to go to college once she finished high school. However, Lily insisted that she do it and major in the one thing she knew Riley loved: Psychology. The brain had always fascinated Riley, but the fascination had always played second fiddle next to her obsession with music. But her sister argued that Riley could pursue an education in psych as well as work on her music. Riley eventually gave in and attended college at Acton Vale. Unfortunately, the fire hit and burned the Academy to the ground. Riley was inside one of the dorms when it happened, and had to escape the burning building with the other students. The event was devastating, and Riley was at a bit of a loss on what to do. She called up Lily and told her of what happened, sitting with a lot of the other shaking, terrified kids. Lily calmed the older Forrester as best as she could before urging Riley to still go to a college to get her degree when the older sister voiced her idea of stopping her education again. As luck would have it, Riley found out about another Academy back in the States called Bellefonte, and begged for a transfer to the school. It took some time before Riley got the "ok" and managed to switch schools. Although it was a little tough, Riley kept her head up and looked ahead, determined to get her degree for her sister's sake.
