Nikolai Volkov
FACE CLAIM: Ferran Calderon
---------------------------------
AGE: 30
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Pansexual
POSITION: Local
POWER: None
Nikolai does not have any powers.
LIMITATIONS:
N/A
SIDE-EFFECTS:
N/A
HEIGHT: 7'4"
HAIR COLOR: Black
EYE COLOR: Light Blue
MISC: Nikolai has one large tattoo of a tribal wolf's head on his back between his shoulder blades. He keeps himself in excellent shape, and is a giant among most. He's definitely attractive too, in a rugged sense. He usually wears dark clothing, and normally has a jacket.
PERSONALITY: While he may look intimidating, Nikolai is a very laid back individual. He doesn't mind most people and is usually very social to those brave enough to approach his towering form. When he does talk, he speaks with a thick Russian accent and a smooth, deep voice. If someone doesn't mind looking up to talk to him, he's usually a good conversationist. They'll quickly learn he has a dry wit, and is very sarcastic the more he feels comfortable with a person. He's often easily amused by what he calls "American customs and antics," and still doesn't quite understand some of the things people do in this country.
However, he does have his flaws. Nikolai can be extremely stubborn at times, and it's pretty much impossible to make him change his opinion or give in. He's blunt too when asked an opinion, which can sometimes make him sound incredibly rude. He has his secrets, and doesn't like to talk about them. If someone persists in questioning him, he'll turn cold and distant, shrugging off any attempts to communicate. He doesn't like being bothered about his past unless he trusts someone.
He also has a bit of a dangerous side to him. If he doesn't like someone, it shows. He can get very mean, almost sadistic, when dealing with them. From subtle jibes and comments to direct insults and taunts, he isn't against completely humiliating someone. Or hurting them. Beneath that calm exterior lies a cruel spirit that will snap at those he greatly dislikes. Especially if they betray his trust.
SECRET(S):
- Nikolai can be quite sadistic and cruel when he's dealing with someone he hates or dishing out his own "justice" to someone who wronged him. The worst part is; some part of him enjoys it.
- Nikolai avoids telling anyone about his time in the military. Even to those who do know, he doesn't talk about his missions of where he'd been stationed and what he's done.
FATHER: Artyom, Volkov
MOTHER: Aleksandra, Volkov
SIBLINGS: Konstantin (Deceased)
WORTHY MENTIONS: Borya, Konsta, and Polina; his large german shepherds
CHILDHOOD: Nikolai was the second born of his family, only two years younger than his older brother Konstantin. Konstantin was the troublemaker of the two. He was rowdy, rebellious, and always managed to draw his little brother into his shenanigans. Their mother was the one who usually didn't reprimand them for their (Or rather Konstantin's) antics. She would take them inside, sit them down, and calmly tell them not to do it again. The boys would promise, and by the next day or two Konstantin would be dragging Nikolai back out into the same trouble.
It was their father that really disciplined them. As a higher ranking member of the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation, he did not put up with any of their tomfoolery. Nikolai often heard his brother getting reprimanded from their room, and many times it would erupt into a huge argument. Nikolai would always stay silent when it was his turn for his father's stern talks, but his scolding was always much shorter than his brother's. Nikolai would only argue when his father would talk negatively about Konstantin. Nikolai looked up to his brother as much as Nikolai looked up to his dad, so he would never let his father insult Konstantin in front of him. The two Volkov brothers were a formidable team, supporting each other inside and outside of school. No matter what came their way, they were there for each other.
ADOLESCENCE: As the years went on the two brothers grew up, but their bond stayed the same. They both skyrocketed in height, soon being just as tall as their giant of a father. Konstantin became more of the fun-loving ladies' man, always kidding and using his natural charm to get whatever he wanted. Nikolai, on the other hand, became the laid back, dry-witted mystery, letting his brother do most of the talking while he simply listened. They enjoyed their schooling together (Well, at least as much as one could enjoy school) while Konstantin still managed to get them in trouble.
But their destiny was sealed the moment they were born. Since they were little, their father had been making sure they were in excellent shape so that eventually, when they were old enough, they would become soldiers just like their father. They had even been enrolled into Military schools, just to make sure they would be perfect for the job. As their father expected (And demanded), they both excelled in their schooling. And eventually, they completely followed in their father's footsteps.
ADULTHOOD: The rest of the brothers' lives were essentially dedicated to serving in the Ground Forces. Their father was adamant on having them serve much longer than they had to when they signed up, determined to have them rise up within the ranks like he had. Neither brother disappointed, as both rose up as excellent soldiers due to their training from school and their father.
They managed to see a lot of action in their time serving. They were shipped all over, as border guards, peacekeepers, and occasionally doing missions in the Soviet successor states. Through it all, the two brothers managed to stay together and support each other. They both had their fair share of mental scars from all they did. Nikolai sometimes couldn't sleep, faces of the dead haunting him in his dreams. Konstantin would binge drink spontaneously, worried for his own life and for Nikolai's. But they always communicated their fears with each other, one way or another. They had been a team from the beginning, and they remained a team until the end. Together, they battled their foes and their demons, and managed to keep their sanity.
But one day something went wrong. The brothers were sent out with a group of the Forces to deal with a small terrorist group causing trouble outside Chechnya. However, when they arrived, the size of the group had been sorely underestimated, and the Forces had been expected. The battle practically turned into a slaughter. During all the heavy fire, Konstantin got hit. Nikolai rushed out and pulled him to safety, and soon they retreated. Despite the best efforts, Konstantin ended up dying from his wounds in Nikolai's arms.
Nikolai never felt so alone. Suddenly, his second half had been ripped from him without warning. He felt hollow. The faces Konstantin had been able to keep at bay came back stronger than ever. Especially because a new, familiar and loved face was among them. The Volkovs were devastated by the death, but Nikolai was hit the most. He didn't drink himself to despair or death; he had too much pride and respect for his brother to become something like that. But Nikolai did begin to pull away from everyone, growing more depressed and distant and angry as time went on. Finally, his mother insisted on sending him to see someone.
For roughly 2 years, Nikolai obeyed. With the help of counseling, he started to return to his normal self. He could smile and laugh again, and he didn't seem so dead inside anymore. However, he couldn't go back to the Forces. He couldn't go back with Konstantin dead. Which was why, during the time he got counseling, he began learning English and reading up on US history. When he was finally labeled as "recovered," he returned home and gathered all his things. With only one backwards glance, Nikolai fled Russia and headed for the United States using the money he had gotten during his time of service. The only thing he left behind for his parents was a note to tell them he loved them. He didn't tell them where he was going, and got rid of his phone the moment he could. He knew how disappointed his father would be, and he knew how devastated his mother would be. Yet Nikolai couldn't stay there any longer, in the place where the memories of his brother were too strong.
The moment he got to the USA, Nikolai converted all his money and thought out what he was going to do. He applied for a US citizenship as fast as he could, and managed to pass fairly quickly. After that, he headed deeper into the States. No one knew him there, and it was refreshing. He kept his family name, but he kept his past a secret. He didn't want people to start asking about his time in the military. It was hard enough dealing with the ghosts without being reminded. Eventually, through sheer luck, he found Kalispell and decided to settle. His father would never think to look for him here, and he had a blank slate to start from.
Now he lives in Kalispell in a small house with a large yard, spending time with his three german shepherds (Borya, Konstantin, Polina) whenever he's free.
SAMPLE: "Oh c'mon Nikolai! It'll be fun!" Konstantin insisted for the fifteenth time. It still didn't reassure the younger Volkov. He stared into the window of the tattoo parlor, silent as he pondered his brother's idea. Getting a tattoo sounded like a pretty dumb idea to Nikolai. He didn't see the point in it. However, Konstantin was obsessed with the idea once it had jumped into his head, and he had dragged Nikolai to the parlor to join him.
A swift smack to the back of his head shook Nikolai from his thoughts. "Hey!" He protested, rubbing the stinging spot as he glanced at his brother. The big blonde had inherited his looks from mother's side of the family. He had father's face though. Nikolai, on the other hand, was the opposite. He looked a lot like their father, but had the personality of their mother. He wasn't quite sure where Konstantin got his personality from.
"Stop thinking so much! It's giving me a headache!" He ordered with a grin. "Just do it! We'll both get wolf tattoos! Oh don't look at me like that," He tsked when Nikolai only stared at him with a deadpan expression, "We're Volkovs! We're wolves! It's only right we honor our family namesake!" He argued. Nikolai cracked a smile at his brother's persistence.
Maybe it wouldn't hurt. Besides, if Nikolai got it in a place no one could see, then no one would know. And a lot of the other soldiers had tattoos anyways. It wasn't like Konstantin was suggesting they dyed their hair blue or something. Nikolai exhaled through his nose, glancing into the window again.
"Oh alright." He finally conceded, earning a triumphant whoop from his brother. Quick as a snake, Konstantin grabbed Nikolai and headed inside.
"Hey! We want some tattoos!" He shouted unabashedly.
