Rachel Jacobs
FACE CLAIM: Tatiana Maslany
---------------------------------
AGE: 20 years old.
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
POSITION: College student
POWER: Force field generation
Rachel has the ability to generate invisible force fields around herself or others, generally to protect them and herself from coming attacks, may those be physical or energy based. Her ability is often mental based, although her moods could sometimes make them appear. This power cannot be seen unless you count the shine around the form, often times made out as an orb, although it can be a thick wall, of about two inches thick, and could easily be mistaken as glass, though far more durable and actually made out of energy, more specifically, her mind waves. While she grabs elements from the air, it’s her mental energy that bounds those elements together, forming the orbs and walls.
Small fields don’t take much concentration to make, so she can create orbs to hold in a squirrel if she wanted to without much thought (plus it’s fun to freak them out like that). The orbs can levitate some distance above the ground, but they’re still tied to her being close enough to them. Despite this, they wouldn’t be able to hold in anything that’s heavier than something she can carry.
The orbs become heavy to those who try to move them, only managing to be rolled from one place to the other by the people inside of them, or being moved by Rachel’s mind. This doesn’t mean they won’t break if a strong energy hit them, or would disappear if Rachel lost consciousness.
LIMITATIONS:
- Her power has a distance limit, since she can’t create any orb or wall if she’s more than twenty meters from her target.
- She also can’t produce an orb that lasts more than an hour.
- The orb can’t appear if there’s something in the way, it can’t cut through anything, just protect. It can’t, say, appear in the middle of a person to hurt them.
- Rachel can’t make orbs bigger than five meters cube, and the bigger they are, the weaker they get.
- Her orbs respond to her emotions and concentration, so if she needs to create something resistant, she needs to be fully concentrated in it, staying still and focusing on the spot she’ll create it in.
- Fear often times will be a trigger for a field, making random ones appear when she’s feeling particularly nervous.
- An orb can be destroyed or penetrated by a particularly strong hit. It also lets air move in and out. Because of this, any gas can still move in and hurt her.
- The field will disappear the moment Rachel loses her concentration or any sort of mental power, shield power or anything directly affecting her mind or emotions succeeds in distracting her.
- While the orb is difficult to see, it could be detected by anyone with a trained eye.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Rachel will often times have a headache after training, particularly if she focused on making stronger and bigger fields.
- Her emotions sometimes trigger random walls that make her slam into them constantly.
- If her force field is destroyed, this will trigger a sharp and harmful pang inside her head that’ll cause a migraine that could last for days.
- While keeping a field up for long will cause mental strain, this often results in Rachel also feeling physically tired.
- She often has bruises all over. Not because of her powers, but because she keeps slamming against the damned walls and falling to the floor.
Documentary
Subject: Rachel Jacobs.
Take one
“Hey, cutie.” Rachel greeted the camera with a smile, waving a hand at it, “This is for the take, right?” When she received a positive, her grin widened and fluffed her curly brown hair. “So, what? I just talk about myself? Ha! Like I don’t love doing that.” She grinned again, turning her brown eyes from someone beside her to the camera. “Right. Okay.” She moved on her seat until she was more comfortable, crossing one leg on top of the other and smiled. “Hi. I’m Rachel Jacobs. Twenty years old and I’m a mutant.” She stopped, frowning and then turning to the guy again. “Ugh, did I sound like a prick? I think I sounded like a prick. Can you cut-”
Take two
“Hi! I’m Rachel Jacobs and I’m a mutant!” She stopped talking and rolled her eyes. “Whatever,” She shook her head then. “This is bullshit! These lights make me look so pale! Like a fuc-”
Take three.
“My power?” Her grin grew wider and shrugged. “It’s nothing too impressive, really. What am I saying? Yes it is.” She leaned forward and her face turned serious, “I protect people. With big ass force fields. Super force fields. I’m like a superhero, you know? Without the latex because that’d be too stuffy. I mean,” She laughed and leaned back, “I could tell you ALL those times I wore latex! The rashes I-”
Take four
“Fine! Not a superhero. Jesus! Who wants the truth anyway? That’s so dull.” She rolled her eyes, “Fine. I make energy fields for protection. Nothing too fancy. Happy?” She stopped for a second and her smile widened, “I once saved the President-”
Take five
She lost her smile. “Do I have to?” Rachel let out a deep breath, rolling her eyes back. So annoying. “I just was walking down the street, some asshole didn’t stop when the red light came up and BAM. Right into an invisible wall. Two days later, I get recruited.” Rachel looked away, letting out a bitter laugh, “You should’ve seen the people around. They were-” She sighed, “They weren’t happy. You’d think a little twelve year old not dying would make others happy but NOO! Let’s focus on the fact that this weirdo kid-” She stopped as she realised she said too much and looked at the camera. “Stop recording. No, I mean it . I don’t want to-”
Take six.
“ You sure you want to know about them?” She stared at the camera, still smiling, “Well, dad would tell you I’m a screw up who can’t take anything seriously and my mom would tell you I’m a monster and going to hell. You know? Your every day, totally normal family.” She nodded, leaning back on the chair, “Just one brother. He’s older than me. And he’s-” She nodded, “Yeah, he is too. Both kids lost in under five years.” She laughed again, “Mom never saw it coming. Two spawns of the devil! Ah, all the things she said. No wonder dad left.” She shook her head, hugging herself. "They're still in Chicago. Well, I think. I haven't heard of them since dad remarried."
Take seven
“Don’t laugh! I’ve been here all my life. It’s true. Since I got my powers till- till now.” She shook her head at the next question. “No, I want to leave.” Rachel smiled, “No! I’m serious. I just- I want to see the world, I want to be someone, you know? Like walk down the street and have people know exactly who I am.” She sighed, “No, I- it’s not that simple. My force fields keep me here.” She snorted, “Do I look like I know why? I don’t know! It just happens.” She fell quiet and looked away from the camera. “Can we talk about something else?”
Take eight
“And then-” She laughed, bending her back and snorting, “Then I said- I said-” She gasped for air as laughter didn’t let her speak, “That’s just my penis!” She started laughing on her own, holding her stomach. Nobody else was laughing though. “Get it? Because of the hair?” More chuckles. “Ah, I’m so good- Uh? That’s all? Okay.” She giggled again, rubbing the tears out of her eyes carefully, just to not spoil the little makeup she had.
Rachel stood up, removing the mic from herself, careful not to tangle the cord in her hair and turned to the camera. “You sure you don’t want me to dance? I could just go- Uh, uh- uh uh! yeah!” It was obvious she was doing this merely to make them as uncomfortable as possible. “Wait wait- It could be all like mutants go wild. That’d bring in the cash, just like WOO-” She made the move to lift her shirt, but the camera went off.
