Nodding in agreement, Beth offered the girl a comforting smile. Well, it seemed as if her heart was in the right place at the very least. Beth could hardly ask for more for the time being. Baby steps and all that.
"Time heals all wounds, but wounds also leaves scars," she spoke. "The pain will grow bearable and you'll simply learn to live with it all." Her smile widened slightly. "That's really all we can ask for, but don't worry, it will also get better."

Olivia sighed. The pain would grow bearable. That was a nice teacher way of saying she'd always hurt. That the pain would never go away. That lent a certain bleakness to her future. She'd have to live with it though, as it was the only future she had.
"Scars make us who we are. I guess. I think that's from an Adam Lambert song. Seems appropriate. Thanks for talking to me about this Beth. I think we'll have to keep doing this. I'm calm now...but I can feel myself teetering on that ledge between a breakdown and sanity. I'll slip sometime." She shrugged. It was just a matter of time.

Offering the girl a warm smile, she nodded. "My door is always open for you, Olivia," she replied, reaching for her purse. She pulled out a small note of laminated paper and handed it to the girl. "Here's my card. My cell phone number is on it, so feel free to call me whenever you need."
She brushed off her shirt and turned her gaze towards the lake again, the corner of her lips tugging further upwards.
