Delilah Ann Kotter
FACE CLAIM: Lily Rabe
---------------------------------
AGE: 27
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Pansexual
POSITION: Art Teacher
POWER:
Plant Manipulation and Communication:
Delilah's Power allows her to move/control various types of vegetation and plants, with the larger plants calling for more concentration than smaller plants. In order to manipulate/control any sort of these plants, she must gesture her hand(s) (Usually just one if it requires little concentration, both if it requires more concentration). With much concentration, Delilah can manipulate a not yet bloomed, or seedling of a plant to influence rapid growth, until blooming. With this power from her genes, she has began to learn to master the ability to control plants without knowing the exact location or looking at said plant. In order to manipulate the plants, although she feels an attraction or connection to said plant when gesturing her hands to guide movement, she does not technically "communicate" with the plant as she does not make physical/sensory movement directly in contact with the plant, so it's more forced movement. (In the off chance that she does manipulate a plant towards herself/she makes contact with the plant, she can feel the plant's thoughts of being manipulated, which is usually confusion). Through rigorous training, she has learned to move small to medium sized plants with little concentration, and even the ability to manipulate more than one plant at once, but still must focus her concentration to manipulate larger plants, such as trees. When manipulating plants, Delilah feels an physical attachment to the plant, as she feels a tingling sensation run down her veins in a similar pattern of the movements of the plant, and it almost sometimes gives the sensation of her moving the entire earth beneath her.
With her also closely related, but much weaker power, Plant Communication, Delilah has the ability to in a way read the "thoughts" of plants, by using senses such as touch and smell to visualize how the plant is feeling, and the said plant can also feel and react to Delilah's thoughts and emotions based on physical contact, which can be helpful in a dire life/death situation. Although Delilah has tried to train the ability to be able to understand more in-depth the "language" of the plants, and be able to hold longer and more efficient conversations without focusing so much concentration, this ability is much harder for her to use than Plant Manipulation.
LIMITATIONS:
-Must concentrate to be able to move plants (amount of concentration required varies based on plant type and size)
-Not all plants are willing to talk to Delilah, or friendly for that matter (Not all plants like to be manipulated..)
-Plants able to bloom/manipulate must be compatible to climate of area where you are located (Can't control/bloom a cactus on an Icy Plain)
-Must directly control and predict movement of plant through gesturing of hand(s) when moving plants (Can't just quickly flip hand up to move a sunflower upwards, must actually slowly guide the exact growth/movement path of flower)
-Causing new plants to "bloom" instead of moving already placed/created plants almost drains all energy and power until cooldown (Time depends on size; Larger plant, longer wait)
- Can only move/grow plants to semi-realistic standards. (I.E: Can't grow a Sunflower to the size of a Skyscraper, or move plant 20 miles in one direction)
-Must be relatively near plants and limited amount of plants able to move at once
SIDE-EFFECTS:
-Headaches due to over-usage/straining concentration of communicating/manipulating plants
-Possibility of unusual emotional over-attachment to plant(s)
-Occasional feeling of guilt, anxiety, or uneasiness when eating fruits/vegetables (result of over-attachment)
-Sometimes awkward Social Interactions with Humans due to plant attachment
-Must be relatively close to plants in order to manipulate/communicate
- Can only manipulate so many plants at the same time before concentration capacity reached/brain damage.
HEIGHT: 5'7
HAIR COLOR: Dirty Blonde
EYE COLOR: Sapphire Blue
MISC: Standard Ear Piercings, with a Helix Piercing on her Right Ear. On her Right Forearm, she has a Medium Sized "Dream-Catcher" Tattoo, with the quote "I have no fear I have only Love" written on the top circular-side of the "Dream-Catcher" She tends to slightly dress in the stereotypical "hipster" clothing, along with "hippie" clothes.
PERSONALITY: With her powers, It is obvious she loves the outdoors, and all things nature-related, and Delilah considers herself to be a "wise spirit in a young body." Since a young age, Delilah has had an interest in the Fine Arts, but mostly in painting and drawing, and didn't really pick up a habit of gardening until after her powers manifested. She's more of a non-traditional teacher who is chilled back, and loves to "Go with the Flow", which is often a huge turn-off for people who are extremely orderly. Through life experiences explained later, Delilah has a problem, even a fear, of getting into romantic relationships, but other than that she is usually okay with any person, as long as they can get past her what is considered to be "goofy and nutty" personality.
Despite her being a "Goofy" person, she has a slight shell of shyness, as if holding herself back when she first meets new people, and can be considered "awkward" when first met, or even if you were her best friend due to the side effects of her abilities. Delilah is quite the joker, and likes to make the light of every situation, but is turned off and can be annoyed by too crude of humor. The one thing Delilah can not tolerate is disrespect towards herself, as she feels that she's worked hard to get into the teaching position that she currently holds, and she won't let anyone put her down. Delilah also cannot stand if people make fun of her, after realizing her secret.. and it always makes her upset deep down whenever people talk about romantic relationships excessively. She has had anger issues since she was a child, but has slightly mellowed out since she has entered her twenties, and it is found that students either love her, or hate her. Even Delilah can be mean sometimes and find herself ranting about some of her students or people she doesn't exactly like-- but then again she is human.
Delilah tends to become enraged when students refuse to follow her orders, and can even go as far as throw "temper tantrums.". Some students like her chilled-back personality, while others think she's just a "poser", or trying to be hard to be liked by the youth. Deep down, Delilah still has sad thoughts due to some traumatic experiences she's been through, which may be an influence as to why she tries to make the best of every day, but some days she just doesn't have good days. She tries to treat all of her students and staff members with equal respect and be as friendly as possible unless they react rudely to her, in which she can quickly become a cold person in return. Delilah's ultimate desire is to teach at The Bellefonte Academy for a few years, then move on in life, exploring all kinds of new ways to live. Her goals whilst at Bellefonte are to teach students to be the best artists of her capability, or at least teach them how to find a creative outlet, and she hopes to convince the school board to open a Horticulture class.
SECRET(S): She is a Widow.
FATHER: Charles Powell (Mutant)
MOTHER: Shannon Powell (Non-Mutant)
SIBLINGS: Vaughn Powell (Brother; Mutant)
WORTHY MENTIONS: Alexander Kotter (Husband; Mutant; Deceased)
CHILDHOOD: Delilah was raised by her Father and Mother Charles and Shannon Powell, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born as the youngest child, two years after the birth of her older brother, Vaughn. Growing up in a small Suburban Area just minutes outside of a large Southern City, Delilah grew up in a fairly well-to-do family, leading to her parents being fairly consumerist in trying to spoil their "baby girl."
At a young age, Delilah began taking interest in the Fine Arts, despite her academic acceleration that she had gained from her parents hiring private tutors to help give her a "jump on the other kids", in which she did her best to get into every arts related class/club throughout Elementary School, fully applying her talent that she had always seen as obsolete, or horrible, but practiced in the arts as a creative outlet. She was very close with her brother Vaughn, and around the time of her 10th birthday, Vaughn began to manifest mutant abilities of his very own, and was sent all the way away to the Bellefonte Academy, as it was the school Charles Powell, their father had attended, after pulling some strings and getting a nearby "mutant-detector" within Charlotte to verify that Vaughn was a mutant, in which he scheduled the migration of Vaughn to the Bellefonte Academy.
Delilah, saddened by her brothers sudden leaving, was depressed by the news of her brother leaving her alone with her parents to go to the Bellefonte Academy. Don't get her wrong, she loved her parents, but they tended to be a bit.. overbearing towards their children, Delilah especially, considering she was the youngest. As her childhood years continued to pass, she conflicted whether or not if she hoped she would manifest powers or not, due to her mother not being a Mutant.
ADOLESCENCE: Delilah as she reached early teenage-hood began to finally get over the fact that Vaughn had powers, and she would just have to deal with it. As she entered her Freshman Year at the provided Charlotte High School, Delilah became a social butterfly, much like the rest of her family had eventually became, and she tried to make as many friends as possible, terrified of the thought of being a "Loner" throughout her regular High School Career. Even in her earliest year, when she told all of her teachers she aspired to become an Artist, they all in a way doubted her ambition, as "Artists will never get stable-paying jobs."Delilah was saddened by this realization, and began doubting her artistic abilities once again, and tried to think of other passions she could try to pursue as a career--just a normal teenager facing a normal crisis in what they wanted to do. Despite this, Delilah still had time for plenty of friends, and Right around the still early time of Delilah's early Freshman Year as she turned 14, and finally began to severely doubt the fact of her ever manifesting powers, Delilah had finally discovered, and began manifesting powers, ironically at the time that she had secretly hoped she could have a "normal life", unlike anyone else in her family.
On an average school-day right around the time of dismissal, Delilah decided to walk through the large city as she normally did, through a forested path that was a shortcut to her Suburb, in which something inside of her felt strange as she continued down this path. In a way, she felt.. connected to every leaf and branch of every tree, and every plant that she rustled her feet and legs through to get home every day. Delilah began assuming it was stress, as it happened to be a night she was assigned a lot of homework, but already had plans to hang out with friends that evening. As she continued to walk through the path, she began feeling even closer to nature, like each tree gently swayed in the air to her exact pace of walking, or each plant slowly but delicately moved out of the way as her feet crunched on the autumn leaves that scattered the whole forest, covering the entire path to avoid being stepped on. As she began panicking, believing she had went insane, she gently began pushing her hands in front of her, to push the leaves out of the way that stretched far off the tree branches, as if to block her path. As she made contact with the leaves, she could feel the leaves communicating with her, as if they said "Keep going", as they slowly but barely moved out of the way without Delilah touching them.
As she began to sprint home, the path continued to overwhelm her, as she felt more and more panicked, trying to think of a logical explanation, when it finally hit her-- she may be a plant-related mutant. With all of the stress, Delilah fell over panicked, and passed out. As she awoke, she was lying on the couch in her living room, glancing out the window seeing the night sky, signifying how long she was asleep. She could feel something different in her veins-- an urge to learn about nature, or adventure outside, as her parents walked in the Living Room with a disgusted look on their faces, scolding that they had to come searching for her in the woods, and how she was supposed to be home hours ago, as she contemplated whether or not she should tell her parents of her discovery. She knew her power would only continue to manifest, and someone would find out eventually, so she sighed, telling her parents about everything, as the conversation turned emotional, Delilah knowing she would have to leave all of her friends, and by time she returned, they would all have either moved away, or forgotten about her.
Immediately, her parents after being hesitant at first in admitting their daughter was a Mutant, as that would mean their last child would have to leave "the nest" to a boarding school, so they grabbed a small potted plant, and placed it on the coffee table in front of Delilah, asking her to prove it. Annoyed, Delilah concentrated as hard as she could to manipulate the plant to move to the side, but eventually after the slightest movement, Delilah was freaked out but excited at the same time to the fact that she had powers, and her parents were saddened, but had no choice but to send her away to the Bellefonte Academy. Her Father, still having the phone number of the Charlotte Representative "Mutant-Detector" that he used for Vaughn's application, called the Detector to come and help get Delilah set off to go to Bellefonte, after confirming she was in fact a Mutant. The Detector predicted she would likely be a mutant due to the aggressive gene, so he filed out her information, and sent it to a recruiter, in which she was sent to Bellefonte, in a similar manner to her brother. In a way, she was glad she was the youngest, so she wouldn't have to break her younger sibling's heart with no choice but leaving, like her brother did to her.
Delilah started to become slightly socially awkward, and definitely lost a large chunk of her previous reputation of a "Social Butterfly", as she tended to just stay around her sustainable group of friends throughout her first few years at Bellefonte. She took interest in the Art Program and Art Club, as she befriended the Art Teacher at the time of her attendance, always signing up for some sort of Art Class every year of her education, as she had available space from her acceleration in academics. It took a while for Delilah to get the hang of her Mutant Abilities, but when she finally got a scientific grip of what it was and how it worked, and how she could control it, she began to slightly accelerate it. Up to her Senior Year and Graduation at Bellefonte, her new found interest in her ability, and her prior love of the Arts lead to plenty of compositions and paintings of nature landscapes, all cherished by her Art Teacher. In her Senior Year, when she had finally finished all of her academics, and mainly focused on doing what she wanted to do, she met a fellow student, Alexander Kotter, and it was love at first sight. After her graduation, she pursued a college career in Arizona, around her lover's hometown, right as she turned 18.
ADULTHOOD: When Delilah moved to go to college in Arizona, her and Alexander had bought an apartment to share together. They were a perfect couple in everyone's eyes, almost a perfect match that someone could find only once in a lifetime. She attended an Arizona College of Arts to get her Bachelors in Art, and decided she would also get the bare minimum qualifications to become a teacher, as she had decided she would want to teach Art to the local community of her small Arizona Town she now called home.
As time in her life passed, she realized that Alexander was her perfect match, and the one person she felt comfortable around in her life, as she knew even her brother Vaughn, and her parents secretly had always despised the idea of their daughter being a "starving artist", but Alexander was comfortable with whatever she wanted to do. Alexander went to the same college, and got the qualifications to become an Architect, and shortly after their graduation dates, Delilah and Alexander rushed into a Marriage.
Delilah's parents were furious at this, as she lost contact with them as she began to attend Bellefonte, and they were no where near as close as they wanted to be. They believed that Alexander was just "taking advantage of her beauty", and that she shouldn't rush into marriage after only knowing Alexander for about 5 years, but she ignored their warning, which lead in them to never come to her wedding. They absolutely outlawed dating from Delilah as a Child and early Teenager, so it was obvious they couldn't stand the fact of marriage.
On the same year of their marriage, when Delilah turned 23, Alexander and Delilah decided to get matching "Dream-Catcher" Tattoos, with the most inspirational quote from their life they could think of. Delilah chose the quote "I have no fear I have only Love", from Fleetwood Mac's hit song Gypsy, as she grew up around that band with her parents as a child, and always loved the quote. Alexander chose "Not all those who wander are Lost" from J.R.R Tolkien, from his Poem "All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter". After this time, Delilah and Alexander began to plan to have 3 Children. Around this time is when Delilah began letting her true personality shine out, and dressing in the style she adored, and being the person she was born to be.
(Trigger Warning(s) Applied Here):
Few months after the Tattoos, when their marriage was at an all-time high, Alexander was tragically killed in a Car Crash on his way home from work one night, which lead to Delilah becoming an absolute wreck. She immediately quit her job of being an art teacher and began tapping into her life savings to use recreational drugs such as Marijuana and Cocaine for a short period in her life, to numb the pain of her lost one. As time passed, and Delilah could feel her life spiraling down, her brother Vaughn flew all the way out to surprise visit his sister Delilah who he had not talked to for a while for her 24th birthday, only to find how sad she had been living. He immediately enrolled her into Rehab, and after a lengthy process when she was fully healed, he decided to take her home with him back to Charlotte, where he had began his own family.
Delilah finally began getting over this sadness, or at least learning how not to act like a completely depressed freak to everyone she met, but she knew deep down that it would take a while for her to truly heal from her pain of loss; but she has still considered putting herself back out into dating if she could be persuaded into it, or truly felt like she fell for someone. Slowly, she began taking an interest back in something she hadn't done since High School and College, painting Environmental Landscapes. She went back and visited the place where she had originally discovered her Powers, and painted arguably the most beautiful piece of her entire career as an artist so far, and just practiced her Manipulation and Communication on the trees that talked to her the very first time, which began sparking her ability that she hadn't used in so long back. She finally began to think about how she could position plants exactly right using her abilities, to paint perfect landscapes, and this discovery is what finally began bringing back her happiness.
A few months after this, Delilah got her own place in Charlotte, and began teaching another Art Class, and selling her paintings on the side for extra money. It was a simple life, but a happy life. In Charlotte she had met some real best-friends for life again, no-where near as close as she and Alexander were, but definitely people she loved hanging out with. Her new found friends, Isabella and Monica moved in to her home with her, and they enjoyed a life together as roommates, going on road trips, and doing all the things they aspired to do in being their own persons, until the day that she had decided to visit Kalispell, Montana with her friends based on the list of locations they offered to go see. She knew she had to visit Bellefonte, and found they were offering a job as an Art Teacher at the school.
Delilah told her friends she had decided to stay in Montana, and teach at Bellefonte, and welcomed them to move in near the city so they could still be friends, but they decided to stay back in Charlotte. She was saddened by this, but they promised to constantly write, text, call, and visit each other, so Delilah could learn to live with this. She applied for the job as an Art Teacher and successfully secured the job, happy with her new life choice.
SAMPLE: The Apartment was very open-complex, with the Bedrooms and the Bathroom directly, but neatly squeezed into the very left side of the floor after entering the Door to the apartment. The Kitchen and Dining room was on the very front, but right side of the Apartment, and the Dining Table bordered the large window that stretched around the entire floor, connecting every room together from the outside, and stood right next to a glass door to a beautiful balcony. Pots of plants were scattered in an orderly fashion throughout the Apartment, and despite the Modern Furniture, the warm color scheme of the objects gave one the feeling of a Luxury Beach-Side Resort. Even the curtains had a faint smell of cleaning supplies, one that would remind you of a vacation spot, and the view was beautiful. You could see all of the technology of the city, as it stretched all the way back, but the windows were wide enough to see the faint beach shore of the city miles away in the distance from the balcony.
Evan, taking in this beautiful view sighed, and looked over at Valerie, while standing up. "Look Valerie.. I think we should talk.." he spoke, as he began walking towards the balcony door, gesturing her to follow.
"As long as you promise to not push me off the edge." Valerie said nervously, until Evan looked back and smiled at her, which imitated a slight giggle from the young girl.
Evan opened the Glass Door leading to the balcony, and sat on the floor, and continued to stare at the beautiful, blue sky, completely perplexed by the beauty, as Valerie plopped herself down next to Evan.
"I.. I just want to say i'm sorry for being so angry about you about when you yelled at me. I know you didn't mean it, and it's just really a stressful time for everyone. Sorry i'm not really good at these emotional-type things, but I think we both could use a friend during this time." Evan mumbled, as sincere as possible.
Valerie let out a small smile, and patted Evan's hand that rested on his knee as he sat up on the balcony, in a similar manner to how you'd pet a dog. "I know.. I'm sorry too.. I didn't really mean it, though." she replied, as they both looked at each other and smiled, until it became awkward. Valerie cleared her throat, and quickly thought up a witty remark to end the now embarrassment of the situation, since they had both said what they needed to get off their chest.
