Karsen Leander Ford
FACE CLAIM: Trevor Jackson
---------------------------------
AGE: 16
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Sexually indifferent
POSITION: Bellefonte Student
POWER: Technopathy
- Karsen has to ability to take apart and put together most machines as long as there’s some type of electrical pulse running through them.
- He can communicate with technology allowing him to understand exactly what a machine needs to run or be repaired.
-His gifts also allow him to hold mental conversations with technology. For instance he can verbally or mentally tell it what he wants or needs from it and he'll get a sort of feeling of what it's reply is. For instance a no would be a shock or a yes would be a nice hum (electrical pulse wise.) Each electrical pulse means something different and he can use that to make a conversation.
- He can manipulate technology with a simple wave of his hand however reaction time varies based on size and complexity.
- Because he can interact with the computer and it’s programming he’s able to manipulate the computer to form websites or get past firewalls.
- The same goes for things Robots and Remotes, he can mess with the programing so long as he’s in sight or contact.
- He can feel and identify electrical impulses mean .
LIMITATIONS:
-His power requires contact or sight most of the time and an extreme amount of focus
- He’s unable to pay attention to anything around him while working on project unless it’s extremely loud.
- After using his power he gets extremely dizzy depending on the complexity the severity increases or decreases
- Being a technopath doesn’t give him outside knowledge on how to do things, He uses this power to communicate with machines and alter them, he can not however build from scratch with this power.
- This means he relies on a blueprint to make and new device and mostly uses his power to interact or order the machine around.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
-- Karsen also experiences severe panic attacks when he’s away from anything that gives an electrical impulse.
- prolong separation from technology can have a severe mental impact on Karsen and he retreats inside himself because he is unable to function.
- Karsen suffers from slight headaches and dizziness.
- because he can interact with technology on a mental level he feels lost without technology so he’s constantly interacting even if he doesn’t realize it. This leaves him with a sort of balance problem so he’s incredibly clumsy. When walking or interacting with humans or playing sports.
- He’s completely useless outside of modern civilization.
- Depending on how much effort he puts into whatever he’s doing determines how bad the symptoms are.
- He’s completely useless outside of modern civilization.
POWER: Mechanical Intuition
- Where Technopathy allows Karsen to interact with the machines on a mental level
- Mechanical intuition allows Karsen to make a blueprint of something new and build it.
- He had the ability to build machines from spare parts on around him
- an uncanny ability to know how devices work and how to improve them such as computer programs or robots.
LIMITATIONS:
- karsen doesn’t have enhanced intelligence meaning that he doesn’t actually know anything about these machine he hasn’t learned from books or school.
- He understand how to build machine and such but not how to work them, for that he relies on his technopathy.
- He’s limited to the parts that he has around him, the less parts the simpler the device.
Often times the devices fall apart or don’t work the first because of his inability to focus both his abilities.
- He can build something without a power source, if it doesn't have an engine or battery or some type current he has no clue what he’s doing with it.
- because his intuition is affected by his mental state the more sleep deprived or distracted he is the less and less either power works
- Karsen still relies on his technopathy (short cut) to put things together, however his intuition allows him to make a blueprint to follow.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
-Because this power is just enhancing his technopathy he see’s everything as something to improve. It’s to the point where he’s become obsessed with building things over and over again until he can't improve it anymore.
-Karsen lacks the ability to normal social skills because of his inability to walk away from a machine he improved with difficult. This has lead him developing social anxiety to the extent that he only has a few close friends and often freaks out if there are a lot of people around.
- Because he feels like his progress is limited by how much he knows outside of his power, Karsen is addicted to reading books on physics, engineering and programming.
HEIGHT: 5’9-10ish
HAIR COLOR: Brown
EYE COLOR: Brown
MISC: Karsen has both his ears pierced and wears glasses, He could opt for contacts but he doesn’t like the way they feel in his eyes most of the time. He loves Chuck taylors and skinny jeans and can almost always be seen wearing them when he’s not in uniform. He’s sort of lanky but not quite with awful balance, which means that more often than not he can be seen bumping into people and things or causing accidents. He also always wears a hat whether it's a beanie or a baseball cap sort of thing.
PERSONALITY: Karsen is very private person, he doesn’t like when things get too loud or too wild. While not a very secretive person he isn’t a very open person either. He talks to machines when he works on them or walks by them it doesn't have to be a very intelligent machine either. He believes that every Machine has feelings and he treats them as such. Further more he's very easy to confuse mostly because being around technology makes him crave logic, so anything illogical will confuse and anger him. He thinks that people in relationships are adorable even if he doesn't understand them at times.
When Karsen is comfortable around someone, he's a whole different person than most people see. While he's still awkward he's way more talkative and playful. He is also a very helpful person, if someone is having computer problems or breaks any device they own he'd be more than happy to fix. Like wise, if one of his friends wanted some cool high tech thing he'd do his best to provide mostly because he's a very caring person. The only problem with that is that not many people will ever know because he shies away from human interaction most times.
SECRET(S): Karsen is extremely scared of the dark, mostly because that means that there’s not electricity to provide light. However it’s gotten to the point that he has to sleep with some sort of light on. He has an older sister and a younger sister he doesn't talk about, ignores, and lies about.
FATHER: Fredrick P. Ford
MOTHER: Martha Ford
SIBLINGS: Amara Kingston (23) Jasey (14)
WORTHY MENTIONS: Tim (best friend)
CHILDHOOD:
Even as a kid Karsen wasn’t very social, he loved hanging out in his father’s garage or helping him mother do whatever it was that she was doing. Most of the time He spent his time handing tools to his father or learning about how cars worked. It wasn’t that hard but for some reason Cars never really interested him as much as the pieces that went into it. He never really cared about the finishing product unless it was some use to him, for him it was always the work that had to be done that was more interesting. His father however felt that he needed to interact more so that meant countless sports and play dates with kids that just weren’t able to connect with him...or vice versa.
During elementary school he wasn’t all that popularity after reaching the fourth grade, he preferred the library to most places and sat in the grass during recess reading books like Harry Potter or comic books like Batman. Considering that’s when most kids stop trying to befriend you or form clicks (especially in small towns) he was an outsider. Unfortunately that was short lived as he decided that non-fiction books about cars which brought other car enthusiasts towards him and for the sake of his father he tried to get to know them. Which lead to him being invited to a birthday party which he reluctantly agreed to go to much to his father delight.
ADOLESCENCE:
His powers showed up when he was just shy of eleven years old. His mother and father failed to understand him the way most parents did with kids his age. It wasn’t as if he was have an identity crisis he just couldn’t figure out why he couldn’t spend his time in his dad’s garage helping out. However he was stuck at some stupid birthday waiting for a kid to find him even though he was sure they weren’t looking for him. It was in the way he could hear the laughter and giggling of the children. It wasn’t the hushed whispers and laughs of people trying to sneak up on someone. Which meant he was free to roam around and find some place of solitude. The door was big and heavy, one of those “do not enter” type doors and those were always meant to be ignored.
He was in Mister whatevers office and it was awesome. There was a TV and and mini-fridge. The only thing that was out of place was a small desk lap that he often saw in those black and white films. Unfortunately for Karsen, he’d recently be having trouble keeping his hands to himself when it came to things like lamps and TV’s. Unsurprisingly to him the lamp ended up on the floor spliting the rest from the long neck of the lap. Almost comically his eye’s popped out of his head as he rushed to pick up the pieces. It wasn’t proudest moment but as he tried to fit the pieces back together and began to panic after it wouldn’t fit together. He frantically waved his hand over the lamp and it instantly came together freaking him out a bit. After shakingly putting the lamp on the desk and turning the knob he was happy to find it worked. The dizziness kicked in and he stumbled into a shelve knocking down a few pictures. His parents took him home after that.
After that he spent hours testing out his ability, it was always the same way it would be broken and he would know how to fix it. After walking away with a few minor headaches and dizziness, he was determined to test out his ability on bigger things. His Parents assumed that he was either a genius or an engineering prodigy recalling all the time he spent hanging out with his father in the garage it all made sense to them. Until he entered a personal robot that he designed to be his companion and entered it in the school science fair. After getting a lot of unwanted attention he was recruited and sent to a school in canada which he hated. They were a bit too social for him and then it burned down. He kind of blamed himself because his robot had the tendency to overheat after an upgrade and he was sure he had left it alone after leaving it to finish it’s upgrade.
He was sent to Bellefonte Academy and even though he didn’t really like the school any better than his previous one he’d grown used to it.. He decided to try and make his computerized friend again, this time with computer to hash out the software. He was able to put a lot more downloaded software instead of assuming that the battery of a small robot could power such functions. The only time he remember having fun he wasn’t sure how old he was exactly but it had to be around fourteen and fifteen, he was trying to make a skateboard that would stay under him while he did tricks. It was something about magnets and rockets and he wasn’t even sure why he wanted to put rockets on the end but it’s safe to say he didn’t get rocket fuel. Instead he tried to attach a makeshift engine out the parts that he had around him (thankfully he had enough) and while not the most efficient engine it got the job done. The problem was that the magnets weren’t working how they were supposed to or maybe it was the button that was supposed to make them stick, or maybe he was terrible at directing the remote control. It slipped out from under him and nearly knocked someone over. Luckily the engine failed and it stopped right before, that was the last time he tried to build anything without getting a couple of hours of sleep at least..

SAMPLE:
Karsen didn’t really understand why saturdays started so early, it wasn’t as anybody really had to get out of bed. He knew that he had all day to try and figure out why his computer program wasn’t running but he still wanted to sleep. It wasn’t until he actually realized that sun would not go back to sleep and stop bothering him that he got out of bed. He walked over to his desk space and turned on his laptop, the sight of it slowly loading caused him to draw out a notepad and write, optimize performance. He hated how restricted he felt sometimes at the school, maybe it was because he had to share a space with three other individuals all who were sleeping if the lack of noise was anything to go by. He looked at the alarm clock on his bed and sucked his teeth, they were asleep because it was six in the morning. It seemed the sun was only bothering him, or was it the need to finally get this program right. It’s not like he needed a friend now that he had Tim but at the same time, it was nice to talk to a computer and tell a computer what to do. Even if he did do that all time, now that he thought about...why was the program important again?
Sighing he put in his password and opened the malfunctioning program, he really didn’t understand why it was being so stubborn. He really did hate when the computer started being stubborn and then he the problem. He didn’t have enough space on his hard drive, growled and took a flash drive out of his desk drawer, transferring all the files from his computer to his disk drive. He would just have to load the program onto another computer, the only question was how to get another laptop. His parents would probably refuse to get him another laptop after he took apart the old one, perhaps he could find a junk shop to browse they always had some old laptop that needed a serious rewiring. Closing his lap he drummed his fingers on his desk before reaching out into the drawer and gathering the control panel for his skateboard.
Turning on his work lamp he began to work on that until he knew that others would be going into Kalispell, then he could try and find an old laptop to use. Perhaps he’d find his friend and see if he wanted to come along.
