NAME: Artemis Cody James
NICKNAME: Art, Arty.
AGE: 17
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Demisexual
POSITION: Student
FACE CLAIM: Logan Lerman
POWER:
Wasp wings and power surpression barbs
Artemis’s mutation has given him a pair of fully functional wasp wings, enabling him to fly with some speed and significant manoeuvrability. At his fastest he can manage flight a little faster then the speed of a human sprint, although this level of speed can only be kept up for around half an hour. At a slower speed, say the same as a typical human jog, he can keep a steady flight for around an hour before needing to take a break.
He can hover a few feet above the ground, is rarely still while doing so and often darts around slightly while in flight. He cannot carry any more weight then what he can carry while on the ground, and depending on said weight his flight time can be significantly reduced. For example, carrying a human within his carrying ability may reduce his flight time to around five minutes and his speed to that of a human walk.
His maximum height of controlled flight is around eight metres high off the ground, although there’s a chance he can improve on this with training.
Artemis’s mutation also has given him power suppression barbs, tiny, jagged barbs which lie under the skin of his hands, which contain a poison that attacks the mutant gene. Although generally these barbs lay safely under his skin, cannot be seen and provide no harm to others, when threatened or angry, they emerge from under his skin as a defence mechanism. If he touches another mutant with his barbs his poison will be transferred, and acts quickly. Within around a minute, the infected will temporary lose their mutant powers.
He has no control over his barbs extending, although he is immune to his own poison.
Limitations
• His poison only attacks the mutant gene, so typical humans are unaffected by his barbs beyond a nettle like sting.
• Although the poison is fast acting, it’s also quickly dystaturated by the blood; It’s effects only last around five minutes.
• He cannot control his barbs. They’re triggered by either fear or anger, extending in those emotional states if he wants them to or not. He also must also have skin contact in order for the poison to be transfered.
• Artemis struggles to fly in rain or strong winds, and as soon his wings become heavy with moisture he can no longer fly.
Side-Effects
• Artemis’s wings aren’t constantly extended, and when not in use lay down his back and down the back of his legs, like a layer of veined membrane. Extending them and replacing them back over his skin is very painful, and feels similar to a large layer of skin being peeled from the body.
• Using his wings causes a lot of muscle pain in his back and neck, depending on how long he’s used them for and how much exertion he’s placed on them.
• The extending of his poison barbs, due to the fact they’re ridged, causes a burning pain, and often leave his hands bleeding slightly once they reside. They’ve left him with scarring on both hands.
APPEARANCE SECTION:Standing about 5'8, Artemis’s frame is slim. He has naturally dark hair which is generally in a well cut medium length style which when cut shorter often sticks up in fluffy tufts despite his effort to style it. His face is more rounded then he’d like, giving him an almost baby face, which he feels can make him look younger then he really is. He’s always clean shaven, his complexion pale skinned, which is made more prominent by his dark hair. His most startling feature are his deep blue eyes, a feature he shares with his twin Lucy.
MUST HAVE APPAREL:
Artemis’s attire when outside the restraints of the Academy’s uniform is usually comfortable, but fashionable clothes. Often keeping things simple with t shirts, jeans and a open shirt over the top, jackets or a hoodie. He enjoys dressing up, and takes pride in looking sharply dressed, and as such opted for the formal jacket and tie combination when it comes to his uniform. In does this not only due to his desire to look well dressed, but also in an attempt to make himself look more his own age, but he feels he often just ends up looking like someone’s kid at a wedding.
PERSONALITY SECTION:
Generally bright, friendly and positive, Artemis is a kind yet fiery heart.
A people person, Artemis dislikes being alone and thrives in an environment surrounded by people. He feels he can never have enough friends, and his friend circle has the potential to be quite large; And he never forgets any of those in it, taking the time to socialise and make sure each one knows how much he values them. Self sacrificing, Artemis is devoted to the safety of the Academy as a whole, and will strive to protect it with almost unwavering vigour. This is likely an aspect which was enhanced by his wasp mutation, the “protect the hive” mentality.
Having cared for his younger siblings, Artemis had a lot of patience in regards to children, and has a natural caring demeanour. He’ll give advice on a situation if he’s asked for it for not, and often will take situations into his own hands if he feels he knows best. He can be rather steadfast and stubborn.
His actions, despite being quite forward, are rarely self indulgent, and his strong common sense attribute generally makes him an ideal team player; but he has a habit of wanting to lead, and in situations regardless of who his superior is if he disagrees with the request, he’ll defy it regardless of the consequences.
Having been put down through his childhood by his mother and others alike for a variety of reasons, being his sister’s shadow, being untalented, being trailer trash, he’s developed a strong desire to prove himself, which accumulates specifically in terms of his violin playing. He’s passionate about his hobbies, about his education, and takes things sometimes perhaps a little too seriously. He wants to succeed, and wants to achieve. He’s a naturally hard worker.
Artemis is quick to come to the aid of others, even if he doesn’t know them personally, and hosts a strong sense of right and wrong; He has no fear, and will confront others even if it puts himself in danger. As such, his fiery attitude when faced with animosity can often get the better of him, and he has no qualms with using his power on others in order to deal with a potentially violent situation or to protect other people. He can get riled up pretty quickly, and he often acts without thinking in this state, jumping to conclusions before knowing the full story. He’s extremely over protective, especially of his sister. Even if she doesn’t want him interfering with her life, he feels he has every duty to look after her, especially as he feels he failed to protect her earlier in her life. This especially adheres to potential boyfriends of hers… They have to go through his interrogations first, and if anyone harms Lucy or anyone he cares about in any way he won’t hesitate to make sure they regret it.
EXTRA QUIRK: Since his mutation, Artemis has developed quite a taste for highly sweet food.

CHILDHOOD:
Artemis was born as one of a set of twins, named in the vein hope that an educated sounding name would better his chances in life; His mother, however, failed to notice that his name is typically used for females. Upon realising this however, she stuck with it regardless thinking it sounded “chic”.
It was Artemis’s sister Lucy however who was the one who received frame and stardom at an early age; Artemis featured solely in her photoshoot portfolio, and was never picked up on while Lucy was swept up into a flurry of an on screen and on stage lifestyle. Their mother, who after realising it was Lucy who was the bread winner, gave little thought or attention to Artemis beyond general basic care. Their Father wasn’t on the scene, having left before they were born. Artemis to this day has no desire to know him.
Despite being pushed aside as a baby and his twin favoured, Artemis didn’t harbour any dislike of Lucy growing up; Instead, the pair became very close. His sister was always quiet and withdrawn to others, but with Artemis she opened up, laughed at their shared jokes, and genuinely smiled. Artemis recalls these times with fondness, back when Lucy was herself.
Artemis struggled in his education at first, and was frequently put down for his family’s background. He got into a number of fights with other students who either insulted his mother, him or his twin. His short size however generally left him the worse for wear. In an effort to give him a creative outlet to vent his frustrations epidemically, Artemis was placed into a scheme which provided music lessons for under privileged children. After trying out a number of instruments, he took to playing the violin.
It was during this time that his younger brother Dylan was born, shortly followed by Orlando. With his mother solely focused on pushing Lucy’s career, Artemis was often left to care for his younger siblings.
Things however began to gradually spiral destructively, as Artemis noticed his sister’s steady withdrawal from the rest of the family and her hardened attitude towards their mother. While he choose to ignore it at first since her relationship with him seemed unchanged, it worried him. Their mother was extremely pushy, and as hard she she’d pushed Lucy before, she’d never before returned the action; Until now.
As the acting work dried up, Lucy became even more withdrawn, lashing out and denying now even Artemis any insight into her wellbeing. The twin he’d felt more bonded to then anyone else he’d known suddenly began to feel like a stranger. Naturally he reached out to her on a number of occasions, only to be shoved aside as Lucy was now alienating herself from their mother and the rest of the family.
With the family’s “star child” steadily falling into her own personal emotional black hole, Artemis found his mother suddenly taking an interest in him and his talents. Having previously been belittled in the occasional comment from his mother mumbled to others for being the “runt” of the twins, she now threw her all into encouraging him; And throwing her all into ignoring Lucy.
ADOLESCENCE:
Artemis had always felt as though he’d been defined by his sister. He was always “the twin of the famous kid”, the shadow, the untalented one.
But as Lucy spiraled, their mother suddenly latched onto Artemis, attempting to push him into a similar career that his twin had suffered through. Artemis was however no better an actor then he was as a child, much to his mother’s disappointment. After her attempting to get him signed up to an agency, often using Lucy’s name to get appointments, their mother eventually gave up. Throughout the entire process, Artemis simply endured, for his family’s sake, and in the hope that if he did get selected that the pressure would be removed from his sister.
His life encompassed trying to please their mother for the sake of the family, trying to support his younger siblings and trying to reach out to his twin.
Their family life however steadily grew worse, with Lucy’s attitude becoming far more violent and self destructive. Artemis’s attempts at salvaging their broken bond were meant on deaf ears, and after he found some of her stash of pills and proceeded to get rid of them instead of confronting her, a frantic and furious Lucy left the home.
Artemis blamed himself when he awoke to find his twin missing; He should have protected her, tried to reach out to her more then he did have. He also blamed their mother, and after a few heated arguments over the course of a few months, after exhausting daylight searching and talking to police, he declared he was going to leave in an effort to find Lucy himself before anything worse happened to her.
His time on the streets was short lived. The first night he made inquiries to Lucy’s whereabouts, and after following a number of tips from various homeless, found a dealer who knew his sister. This encounter became a prolific point in Artemis’s life.
It didn’t take the dealer long to rile up Artemis, especially with the manner in which he spoke about his sister; He got into a fist fight, which stopped abruptly when Artemis was stabbed in the chest with a small knife. The dealer fled, leaving an injured Artemis. He spent a week in hospital, and the incident left him with a scar underneath his rib cage.
While in hospital he began to suffer with severe back pain, and a painful burning in both hands. Thinking the knife had somehow damaged more then previously thought, he was taken for an X Ray. The X Ray revealed his premature wings. An hour or so later, his wasp wings emerged from his back, which was a painful ordeal. The fear he felt during his manifestation also triggered his barbs, which cut out of his skin, leaving them bleeding and only retracting once he’d calmed down.
Unknown to Artemis however while he lay in a hospital bed, his mother was pushing the doctors to simply remove the wings from his body, that such an act would be a blessing to him then having to endure being a “freak” like his twin.
Their mother had known weeks ago where Lucy was, and what she was; but had chosen to keep that from Artemis since in her view her daughter had become damaging, and while she hoped the Academy she was sent to would straighten her out, she didn’t want Lucy’s attitude and mutant status to somehow “poison” the rest of the family.
Her request never went ahead however; A recruiter turned up at the hospital at the end of the week before his mother could push for further action to be taken, to take Artemis to Bellefonte. His mother failed to mention his twins’ presence at the school until he was just about to leave, a reveal which left Artemis reeling emotionally, as well as birthing a void between him and his mother. He’s still refusing to speak to her despite her best efforts to contact him at the school, but does keep in contact with his siblings, the youngest of which, Pixie, is only a few months old and is now the centre for his mother’s affections. He fears she’ll eventually push Pixie into a similar career as his twin had, and that she’s using her as a “replacement” for Lucy.
When it comes to Lucy, his twin, Artemis no longer feels the same strength of bond they once had; But that’s not to say that he doesn’t believe it’s still there. With them both hosting the mutant gene, he wants to find in her a kindred spirit once again, but fears she’s grown into a stranger that he’ll never understand. This doesn’t stop him trying however, and he’s determined to rebuild their relationship.
