POSITION: English Teacher
FACE CLAIM: Jane Levy
POWER:
Sleep inducement
Sleep inducement- Bell has the ability to create great drossiness within a person to the point of falling asleep. There are certain things the body does to prepare someone for sleep there are certain things the body does to prep itself for slumber. Included but not limited too the breakdown of the chemicals of Melatonin and Adenosine that the human body releases to make someone fall asleep and increase the desire to sleep in a person. At will Bell can release brainwaves that almost seem to trick the body into believing it’s time to sleep so those chemicals are pumped into the subjects at accelerated pace almost always resulting in the person being over come with waves of extreme doziness. Bell application of this power simply relies on focusing her thoughts on the people she wished to use her power on and the brainwaves naturally waft off her.
Limitations
It’s not a guarantee that Bell can knock out someone cold no matter what they’re doing. Adrenaline is the natural negator of her abilities, when the adrenaline is pumping through someone it’s near impossible for Bell to put them to sleep. The best she can do is calm them down.
-The range of her ability (when he's not touching them for it to work) can go as far as 10 metres.
-Anyone with mental shielding or mind reading powers are immune from her powers
-She can knock out at most three people at a time
Side-Effects
-She sometimes receives a back draft of her power leaving her to feel sleepy too
-Lack of focus
-Migraines
Oh you want to know about me? Well, I can’t say it’ll be particularly exicting or entertaining I’m afraid, I’m quite a boring people, I don’t have any interesting stories that I’m sure some of the students or teachers could tell you. I’m sure they can tell you maybe interesting stories of parties or drunken nights out. The best I can do is recount to you the last seven weekends I spent curled up on my cough reading books with my cat curled up on my lap. Not terribly interesting is it?
But I have some time on my hands, I have a rare free period before I told the hospital I would be back in a few hours, I’m reading the children the first Harry Potter book, were at the part where he first arrives to Hogwarts and they’re terribly excited, most of them having seen the movies either which I consider a wonderful thing, not that I have anything against the movies you understand but it is nothing compared to a child imagination and I would so hate for it to be bound.
Well, as you probably noticed first is my hair, Yes it’s always been like this, Very red and very curly. It’s ridiculous isn’t it? You can imagine the comments I got in school, It doesn’t seem to grow down like the average person but rather out that makes me look like a mad scientist. That’s just my families genes and yes the pale skin and bright green eyes too, The only things that I missed out on was the fact that I come from a family of practical giants. You could not believe how tall my family is. I’m 5ft 1in.
Annoying right?
As you can imagine I’m forever looking up at my family, but despite the fact that he was easily about 6ft, I was never intimidated he was the most gentle, sweetest man in the world, both my parents were. We never had much money but that didn’t stop my parents giving me the best childhood they could. My favourite memories of my childhood was the routine we had every night. After I had got into my PJ’s and settled into bed one of my parents would come into my bed room with a book, maybe “Peter Rabbit” Maybe “Charlie and the Chocolate factory and they would sit there and read it until I drifted to sleep. That was always the best part of my day, feeling so relaxed and comfy in bed, My dad was always my favorite though. He always made sure to do the voices of every character going deep to very high pitched. It never failed to make me laugh.. I guessed you could say I was destine from the never beginning to become a book worm…
I still remember the day I manifested vividly. I was about 12 years old sitting in the middle of class, surrounded by students. We were in the middle of a math test and that wasn’t exactly my best subject shall we say, so I was stressed staring blankly at the test frustrated, trying to concentrate as much as I could on the page, then suddenly the student next to me slumped in his chair, then the one on the other side of me passed out.
Then the teacher fell to the ground snoring…
Needless to say once I got home there was a trainer waiting for me.
Adjusting to the new school was hard as first I was a naturally shy creature –Still I’m as a matter of fact- but I managed to focus on my studies and by the time I graduated I had reasonably good control of my powers. After I left Bellefonte I bounced around the world for awhile, I’m something of a culture junky; Rome, Paris, Japan everywhere between I just wanted to soak it all up like a sponge. Eventually I came home and I saw that there was an opening for English teacher in Bellefonte. So I thought why not apply for it. I’ve never thought for a moment I would get it but I guess I just got lucky.
I like to think of myself as a talented teacher, but I’ve never gotten to grips with the whole disciplinary thing. I’m not good at in the least. I can’t really yell or shout, and I feel terrible after giving punishments. But I can be firm when I need to be, You can’t let them know you’re soft, they’re nothing that can smell weakness quite like high school students, but I prefer to use the carrot more then the stick whenever I can. When I look around my class room I see so much potential and my jod is to encourage that potential in anyway I can. Who knows, the next great writer could be in my class. All they need is someone to believe in them.
It was during this time my younger sister Sarah joined the school, I remember hearing how happy she was when she manifested, how proud my parents were when she first put on the uniform she was almost giddy the first day she arrived and…And-
I’m sorry…It’s hard to talk about her.
We all remember where we were when the school was invaded and shots were fired. I remember I stayed behind and tried to escort the younger kids to safety, I was so scared but I couldn’t show it. I was an authority figure for them, they relied on me to be in control. If I started panicking then they would despair so I remained calm.
Thankfully none of the kids I was with was killed, but that’s where the good news ended.
Sarah was on the list of the dead…
She was 12 years old…
Some time after the fact I learned that the Headmaster used his powers to bring one lone student. A family friend coming from a family of great influence. As first I thought it was a lie they would never let something that happen, surely no family would so willingly put one life above all the others, they couldn’t pick a family friend over dozens of murdered children. Who were they decide who lived and who died?
Evidently I was wrong.
I do what I can to help the family and those effected, I volunteer at soup kitchens, read at hospitals and I give half my pay to the families effected, but whenever I see one of the headmistresses pass me by in the hall. I just picture how scared Sarah must have been.
I will never forgive them…
