Post by Amélie Lèvesque on Jan 21, 2015 23:37:22 GMT -6
NAME: Amélie Rose Lévesque
NICKNAME: May or Rose (for those who can't do the whole french accent thing)
AGE: Twenty-five
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Amélie is the French teacher and has taken on the gig of the drama teacher. It's only fitting after all.
FACE CLAIM: Jessica de Gouw
POWER:
Name of Power
Pyrokinesis: The ability to control an open flame, whether it be contorting it into a ball of fire or expanding upon a fire that has already been started. Amelie needs to have a source to pull from, she can't pull oxygen from the air and combine it all together in order to make her own fire. With a source, she can build it up greater or snuff it out completely. She can burn it hotter or bring it to a cool flame. The possibilities can seem endless with an ability so open. Her body is noticeably warmer than most others, with a temperature of 104 being the normal for her. Her palms are hottest to touch due to her hands being the way she controls the flames. Though she can't create her own flame, she pulls heat from other places which elevates her body temperature.
Limitations
-Can't create fire from thin air, only from an open source
-Can't make things spontaneously combust
-Can only manipulate one area at a time. One source, not many
-Can't handle temperatures below freezing unless bundled with layers upon layers of protection
Side-Effects
-Overheating while trying to build a flame too great
-Severe cases of hypothermia in temperatures below freezing
-Migraine when trying to dull a flame
-Spacey attention span in cooler temperatures
"Mrs. Levesque, isn't it?" The young lady asked as she looked up from a clipboard of what Amelie could only assume was things that they'd acquired from her application and perhaps background check. With as odd as powers were around here, Amelie half wondered if they even needed to send one in or if someone just magically knew of all the mischief she'd caused in her earlier years.
"Mademoiselle actually, Miss I guess for you. Haven't taken that leap yet," She laughed out her nerves and her fingers twisted around each other. This job was important, it would keep her here and she couldn't afford going back to France. Not yet anyway. This was where she belonged for the time being. A quiet place away from Rouen. As quiet as one could get in America anyway. This place was much faster paced and louder than she was used to. Of course those transfers from this school she had met were rowdy, but a whole country of them?
"Oh, well I apologize. Miss Lèvesque, you have an impeccable grasp of the English language. I imagine you excelled in your English class at the schools you studied at?" The interviewer inquired. It was a tough question to answer. Why was she so good at English despite only living in America for such a short while?
"To say the least, yes. I am fascinated by English. I also learned how to speak a few others, but the romance languages all sound fairly similar. I'm third best at Italian. In school, I was very close with several people from all over the continent and even some transfers from this school. We all learned from each other and, well I am a fast learner. My father could speak five languages fluently because he was a professor at the university in France and was first in his class when he graduated. My mother was a little more human you could say. She was an art teacher, loved self-expression and performing. I guess you could say I got the best of both worlds."
"It would appear so. How did you get here? If both of your parents are French and you didn't transfer?"
Amelie sighed and chewed on her lower lip. She didn't want to sound unprofessional or pathetic, but the reason was sort of the most ridiculous thing she'd done, and that was saying something coming from her. "Lets just say love led me to America in the form of a lovely French college boy looking to become a director on Broadway. Sadly, it didn't pan out for me and I finished my schooling here in hopes of being some kind of teacher. I ask that you please don't judge for my teenage girl crushing," May laughed and shook her head in frustration. Most ridiculous stunt she ever pulled.
"We've all been there, am I right?" The interviewer laughed and Amelie relaxed a bit.
"To be honest, I'm kind of glad I came here, I always wanted to see what this academy was like. I've done my fair share of research. Artsy as I am, I can turn into a bit of a nerd as well when something sparks my interest."
"Understandable, now for a tricky question, we like to know as much about the manifestation as possible, in case we come across someone with a similar upbringing into their manifestation and in case they need help of any kind coping. What was yours like? Details are appreciated for the reason I stated."
Manifestation. Well shit, that was probably the last thing she wanted to talk about outside of her pathetic travel story. She was such a brat as a child. "Uh, well, I'm a pyrokinetic as I stated in my application. Not the kind that can summon from the fiery depths of hell, but from a source rather. Well when I was thirteen, I was sitting in my living room, my mother had a cigarette hanging from her lips and my father was grading papers. I was in a foul mood because I didn't receive the lead part in our school production of Chocolat and my parents weren't giving me the encouraging words that I was seeking, telling me that there were always other roles and that at least I had received a larger role than others. I was a spoiled drama queen at that age and didn't take well to being told that I should appreciate the smaller role. In my frustration, my mothers cigarette flared and poof, all the way up to her lips burnt. Both of my parents knew before I did, they are both mutants as well, though they have calmer abilities than my own. I guess my father sensed it with his own. It was about three days later I was introduced to my recruiters."
"Fair enough. What do you think will help you with relating and connecting with students here? Do you worry about being French in America and not finding things to bond over and discuss?"
This woman was challenging her love of the arts. French or not, she knew her American classics and modern loves fairly well! "As I said, I become a nerd when things spark my interest. I can hold my own when it comes to things trending in America just as I can with those trending in Europe. I'm not too worried about relating to students. Especially being as young as I am, it's easier for them when they see how close in age and maturity a teacher is to them. I want to not only be a teacher that gives them a chance to learn things that I happen to love teaching, but also a teacher that they confide in. I had a sort of Mentor back in France and she was the most amazing influence in my life outside of my parents. I want to be that for someone."
Amelie pulled her dark hair over her shoulder and sighed. She really wanted this job.
"Well Miss Levesque, I think you would make an excellent mentor and addition to the faculty here at Bellefonte. I'll introduce you to the headmistresses before the hiring process can commence, but I'm sure they'll find you fit for the job."
