NAME: Spencer Elias Mason
NICKNAME: Spence
AGE: 30
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Dance Teacher
FACE CLAIM: Eminem (Marshall Mathers)
POWER:
Name of Power Super Speed
spence’s version of super speed means that he can accelerate a portion or all of his body to perform at a speed that is greater than that of what is typical for an average person. this means he can run more quickly, he can speak more quickly, and he can write more quickly if he really wanted to. he is trained to almost the full extent of his abilities at this point, but there could still potentially be room for improvement. he can only accelerate two of his body parts at a time, such as being able to pump his arms and move his legs quickly simultaneously.
Limitations
the faster he goes, the accuracy of the tasks he is trying to perform lesson. so if he is trying to run too quickly, then he could fall and this would cause him to have a lot of physical damage. depending on the surface he fell on (like concrete) he would have a heck of a lot of cuts and would bleed a lot. if he fell on grass he would have less damage but definitely still a lot of pain. if he fell on one of his limbs they may break. basically, he can get pretty messed up if he isn't careful. if he is trying to speak to quickly, the words may start to run together. if he tries to write too fast, it will start to look like gibberish.
he can’t go super fast for super long periods of time. the slower he goes, the longer he can sustain that speed. the faster he goes, the shorter the amounts of time he can perform that action in. so, he may have to stop, take a break, and start again. he has been experimenting with his time limits and it’s something he is looking farther into developing.
his top speed when he was younger was about fifty mph, but once he hit twenty-five, he couldn't run faster than 75 miles per hour. he assumes he couldn't go any quicker since that's about the age men stop growing. any faster than this and he will fall, so he tends to not go this fast at all.
Side-Effects
the more he uses his power in the day, the shorter his fuse gets. his temper gets shorter if he uses his power more in the day and causes him to even be aggressive. so if he has a full day of training, he basically has to quarantine himself from people so he doesn’t end up hurting someone or getting into a fight over something truly insignificant. it takes him about as long to cool down as he has used his power for that day. so if he only uses it briefly, then his temper should only be testy for a shorter period of time.
it causes tensions in his body. if he doesn’t keep his body conditioned to the speeds that he is capable of, then his body will ache quite a bit after performing a task. for example, if he hasn’t run in a few days and all of a sudden tries to run as fast as he can without falling for a longer period of time, his muscles will cramp up and be in pain, sometimes to the point where he can’t move, depending on how long it has been or how much he overexerted himself.
his extreme speeds cause him to burn off extreme amounts of calories, so in order to compensate for this, he has to consume about five times as man calories as the average person if he decides he wants to be super fast, so on most days, he eats this man calories regardless, just in case he wants to do something intense that day. plus the fact that he works out, the normal way, causes him to consume even more calories, so he can be seen eating a protein bar or drinking a protein shake at almost any given moment.
APPEARANCE SECTION:spence is approximately five foot eleven inches tall, just shy of six foot, something that had always irked him in his younger years. His hair was always cut to the scalp, with just enough hair to tell what color it was. Lately, it had been brown, but he’d been known to dye it blonde a time or two. this usually didn’t last all that long, though, because he never felt like it really suited him. He has a prominent jaw line, one that makes his face harsher than he intends it to be, no matter what he does. He literally always looks like he’s in a bad mood, even if he doesn’t mean to be.
when he walks, he carries his attitude with him. he clearly is not someone you want to get on the wrong side of, and, coupled with his expression, people typically didn’t. he likes to keep his eyebrows well kept. besides typically not caring what people think of him, he likes to make sure he looks put together for himself, so that meant keeping a clean shaven face at all time, getting his hair cut regularly, and even doing the occasional brow maintenance when things were really starting to get out of hand. he never let people know he put this effort into his appearance, but he did it for himself.
he has broad shoulders that he is pretty proud of. under his t-shrits and jackets lays a body he worked hard to build. he wasn’t a buff guy in high school, so after that, he tried to make sure he a had a body that people would be afraid to mess with if they knew what was there. unfortunately, most of the time, his build was hidden beneath his clothes, so that was a nice surprise for people to find out that he, indeed, had muscle under there. He has some scars on his chest and on his body from where he would try to run too quickly and end up eating dirt, causing the skin to break all over his body. his hands are callused from working out so much and being active.
MUST HAVE APPAREL: spencer keeps a simple wardrobe, one filled with t-shirts and hoodies. If he isn’t wearing a hoodie or a jacket of some kind, he instantly feels like something is missing from his body. He likes to wear hats a lot, too. Typically a beanie to keep his nearly bald head warm. He wears a combat-boot style shoe underneath his jeans, unless he’s decided to wear sweat pants that day (which he also does quite often). He is never out to impress anyone. If you can’t take him at face value, your opinion really doesn’t mean anything to him. he went through a phase where he had his ears pierced. the holes are still there, so if he’s feeling particularly sassy that day, he will put them back in. his wallet occasionally dangles from a chain and into his pocket. If he has jeans on, he also has a belt. The belt doesn’t always serve its purpose because his jeans inevitably hang a little low, but he doesn’t like for too much to be shown. Barely anything at all is preferable. he can be seen with head phones dangling around his neck on a regular basis, linked up to an ipod classic that he typically keeps in his pocket, whether its in use or not.
PERSONALITY SECTION: everything about his appearance and his body says run away, but in reality, he’s just a goofy guy, caring and loyal to the people he choses to surround himself with. he can’t always be that goofy guy because sometimes he’s an asshole without really even meaning to be, due to his power. if it weren’t for his power and anger issues because of it, he would be a class clown. sure, without the power, he would pick on people and not be everyone’s best friend, but with it, he can easily be viewed as a dick if he’s been training a lot in one day. without it, he doesn’t hate people. but with the side effects, he just wants to be left alone.
his conflicting personalities cause a lot of internal turmoil for him. he wants to be his normal, joking, still kind of an asshole, but lovable self. he can’t always be that person, though. and it’s incredibly frustrating for him that people view him as this unapproachable jerk. sometimes, he wants to just not even use his power and go back to just being himself all the time. If he doesn’t use it, though, it’s incredibly hard to get it back if he wants to. if he waited too long to start training again, it’d be like starting over from the beginning, and he can’t reason letting go of all the time he’s spent to get to where he is.
since he knows how he is perceived and how difficult it is for people to approach him, he tends to be extremely independent and doesn’t rely on other peoples approval or opinions to find his own internal happiness. this is why he’s basically never had a girlfriend. he’d tried once or twice through high school, but they could never handle his ever changing moods (all of his current personality issues mixed with hormones? geez). it’s not that he wouldn’t want one or anything, he would actually really like to have someone to lean on every now and then, but it would take a lot of time, effort, and trust for him to get to that point. he’s afraid of physically hurting someone, so he tries not to let his emotions get too attached to the girl he may be with in the brief moment, so he typically cycles through them rather than keeping one single person as the focus of his life.
EXTRA QUIRK: he has to find an outlet for his anger. this outlet comes in various different forms. sometimes it comes through music, sometimes it comes through dance, and sometimes it comes through working out. he has to deal with it in some way shape or form, so he either locks himself up for the day and just doesn’t come out if it’s really bad, or he tries to find a way to channel it.

WORTHY MENTIONS: his grandma, Carol Anne Sharp
CHILDHOOD: his childhood is pretty foggy to him at this point. he remembers being from georgia. atlanta more specifically. there are some parts of atlanta that are just gorgeous. he wasn’t from those parts. his home resided in south atlanta where the crime rate was significantly higher and there were far more issues. his family had had owned and lived in the same home for as long as his family had been there, he was pretty sure, so at least his grandparents parents. he lived there from the time he was born to the time he was taken away, along with his mother, father, and grandmother. his parents tried to play it off like they were staying in grandma’s house because she needed the help, but it was clearly the opposite. his grandma was always fully capable, just old. she was the only sane member of his family, it seemed, and that’s how they built up such a close relationship. she would sit at the table and help him with homework, make his lunch, and make sure to take him to school most of the time (she was old, she forgot sometimes).
his parents were a different story. spencer never knew his mother very well. she had a night job and he went to school during the day. there was a lot about her he never knew at the time, but it was clear to him that there was always something off about her. whenever she was around, she seemed a little twitchy or anxious, and sometimes far too energetic for having worked for a whole evening. his father was gonethrough a lot throughout his childhood. he couldn’t hold down a job to save his life and he seemed to always be drinking. spencer and his dad never got along because of this. his drunken nature led to him harassing whomever was in sight and that was never okay with spence.
due to the location of his neighborhood, the school he went to wasn’t all that great. he had difficulties learning and didn’t get along with other people. no one there really got along with anyone, it seemed like, even his elementary school years, that people were extremely aggressive and couldn’t find loyalty to each other. he didn’t have a lot of friends there, just a small group of guys that he spent time with to avoid being singled out and picked on for being a loner. these guys weren’t the best either, but they stuck together throughout his stay in atlanta. everyone had issues and he wasn’t going to judge them for being screwed up, he was just as bad.
ADOLESCENCE: once he got a little older, his whole childhood started to make more sense to him. one day, when he came home to find her passed out on the ground, there was a bag of white powder was still on the table next to her. he knew what it was, and his suspicions had been confirmed. his grandma wasn’t home, so he shook her a couple of times and she grunted and moved a little, he just helped her up onto the couch and went about his day. his grandma found out he’d seen and was furious with her, but she wouldn’t make his mom go to rehab, so it kept happening for the next couple of years. he would get her water and food and help her back in the bed whenever it was really bad. something in her triggered as he got older and she stopped trying to hide it. she was just in too deep.
the day he found out about his power was also the day his parents went to jail and the day after he turned thirteen. it was in one of his drunken episodes. it was late at night and his mom was getting ready to go to work, but he wasn’t having it. they were fighting, blaming her for everything that was wrong in his life. he was sitting across the living room, minding his own business, trying not to get too mad or get too involved in it. hopefully he would just talk and then let her go. she started to talk back a little, and spencer looked up. she didn't usually fight back, maybe she was so strung out she didn't know what he was doing. he looked over and saw his dad pulling his fist back, like he was about to punch her. he remembered trying to run to go help her, but he was in front of his mother before he even knew what happened and he was taking a punch from his father. he felt a burst of anger and started punching him back, but he was too weak for it to make any difference. his father reacted by punching his son, repeatedly.
his grandmother was the one that called the police after entering the room to find her grandson on the ground. his father left the house immediately, trying to escape the punishment, but it wasn’t that hard to find an alcoholic. the police tried questioning his mother, but she hardly knew what happened. she kept saying it was impossible, that there was no way spencer could have gotten there so fast, but she was so cracked out that no one, not even her, really knew what she was saying. she was so obviously under the influence that they had to take her in, too.
he went on for the next few days, trying to act like nothing happened. no one said anything about his bruises at school (people had bruises a lot) and he just tried to act like what he had done made sense. he’d decided it was an adrenaline thing or something. but, when he got home after three weeks of convincing himself nothing strange had happened, there were people waiting for him to take him away. his mom and dad were still in jail and he had no idea how long they'd be there yet. he didn't have much of a goodbye for them anyway. saying goodbye to his grandma was the hardest, she'd basically raised him. then, he was gone.
being at the school had been a completely different life for him. people cared about his education and him trying to figure out what the heck he was and how to make it better. for a long time after he started training his ability, he was just mad, all the time. and his muscles ached, always, which put him in an even worse mood. there were days where he would just stay in his room, all day. he missed a lot of days at school because of this. he couldn’t be in a normal classroom, he’d end up interrupting with his fits. and moving from class to class? forget it. he just had most of his work brought to his room (which was a bonafide mess. breaking things helped the anger). being in his room a lo got him used to the feeling of being alone and being okay with that. once he got older, it was easier for him to cope with being around other people and at least build a couple of relationships here and there.
he’d discovered his ability to channel his anger in his teenage years. this got him really interested in the arts, like dancing, writing, and music. he was never that great at science and math, so being able to be involved in those things made him feel good about himself. instead of being locked up in his room some days, he may go to the studio and just dance (hip hop, mostly) or he would sing in the music lounge or he would hull up in the library and just write, anything from poetry to short stories.
ADULTHOOD:
in high school, he was always underestimated. people assumed because he was pretty skinny that he couldn’t do much to defend himself. since he wasn’t around people much, he just kind of took it. but once he got out of high school and started trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life, he got committed to working out and bulking up his muscles. he hardly ever had to do leg day, thanks to the super speed, so he spent a lot of time defining his upper body and torso. this passion made him realize he wanted to open a gym or some kind of dance studio so that he could help others reach their greatest potential.
after two years of job hopping in the town next to the school, he decided to go back to school and get his degree in business. he had no hopes of opening his own place if he didn’t know how to make money and how to operate a business, so it only seemed like a logical choice. after graduating five years later, he realized he would never be able to open this studio/gym whatever it was he wanted unless he had a real job first. he was trying to seek financing for his gym/studio, but the banks wouldn't approve him. he didn't have the credit yet and he certainly didn't have the cash to make it happen, so he had to try and save up a little money and build a little credit before he could really do what he wanted. he started looking or a temporary career path, but he wasn’t cut out for the corporate world. he managed grocery store chain for a week, but he could not stand the amount of authority and control they had to have over all the employees. the idea had been to move up to corporate, but he hated it already and moved on from there. and that’s how he ended up back at school, yet again. teaching hip hop was, by far, not his dream job. but, it was a job that was making his money. it isn’t his long term goal, but he knows he will get there one day. while he works at the school for awhile, he will work on saving money and building credit so he can eventually get financing to open his studio/gym.
