NAME: Alexander Graham O'Rourke
NICKNAME: Alex, Lex
AGE: 28
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: International Trainer (St. Bethany)
FACE CLAIM: Ian Somerhalder
POWER: (Organic) Dermal Armor
Alexander has the ability to create an organic dermal armor that is resistant to attacks, harm, pain and extreme temperature changes. Basically, what his ability does is that it produces cells that hardens his skin to the point of becoming so hard it can resist a lot of pressure, yet still be stretchable, which makes him capable of moving around as he normally would be able to do. When touched, it feels like thick leather as hard as steel.
This armor appears whenever Alexander's adrenaline kicks in (but he can also purposely make it appear by imagining his body hardening) and mass produces cells that can either cover his entire body, or parts of it, by simply imagining or picturing a body part growing the armor, and it does. The process doesn't necessarily hurt, but it can be uncomfortable, or itch as his actual skin changes. When going back to his "normal form", the skin retracts the same way it appears, almost as if it seeps back into his skin again. HOWEVER, if the armor takes a lot of damage, he needs to shed it, very much like a snake would have.
Now, that's not the only part of Alexander's ability. Because the first part is a 'turn on and off' kind of ability, his skeleton is also slightly more sturdy than that of a normal human being. This is for him to be able to maintain the weight of the armor, as well as avoid getting any internal bleeding from any harm done to the dermal armor. His skeleton, especially around the rib-cake can take a lot more pressure before breaking.
LIMITATIONS:
- Weak against Deoxygenation (Abilities that removes oxygen from the air), lack of oxygen can make the armor porous and itchy, which can become painful.
- Can only keep the armor on for a maximum of three hours at a time, and the longer it's on, the more time it takes retracting it, as his body slowly grows used to his new skin, which means that the longer he keeps it up, the more painful retracting it will be.
- Can only use this ability on himself, and not other people.
- His armor can withstand a lot of damage, but that doesn't mean it's invincible. Like, he could withstand bullets (depending on the gun), but he wouldn't be able to survive being shot at with a bazooka, or in any case, he'd be severely hurt. He can survive walking through fire, but not forever.
- To keep his skeleton strong and healthy, he needs to take vitamins and supplements.
- The weight of the extra skin doesn't affect him much more than it would a normal human being gaining weight.
- His ability to withstand extreme temperature changes only goes so far; He can't do something that's not humanly possible.
SIDE EFFECTS:
- Suffers from dry and itching skin, which can cause quite the displeasure. His skin often gets red and sore, and if pushed after that point, his skin can start shedding, almost like getting gnawing wounds/scratches.
- Tense and aching muscles and joints. Often struggles with back and shoulder pains because of it, as well as other parts of his body, all depending on what part he uses his armor on. His body also grows sore after using his ability.
- Because of the adrenaline he needs to use his ability, he often struggles with heart and abdomen pain, and can easily grow stressed and restless. Other side effects include; insomnia, fainting, headaches and cardiac fibrillation. Might even go as far as having a heart attack or his heart stopping.
Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Alexander was born to Lucy and Daniel O'Rourke, a nurse and a military sergeant. He grew up in the suburbs, and had a fairly normal life. Nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing you wouldn't expect from a middle class family. Alexander went to school along with other kids his age, he played sports and had friends and hobbies. He grew up alongside two other siblings, a younger brother, and a younger sister. His family was close in a very untraditional fashion. They very rarely fought and there always seemed to be an aura of respect and agreement surrounding them.
However, when Alexander turned eleven and it was discovered that his mother's side of the family wasn't everything the rest of the family, including their dad had expected, it created quite the ruckus as Alexander's ability manifested. Don't be alarmed; Nothing sparkly, woe is me happened, but as you can imagine, not everyone was as pleased to find out about this information as some were.
At first, Alexander was perplexed, having no idea what was happening to him, and his body. So a few days, two to be exact, passed where the young boy tried researching his 'symptoms', trying to figure out what was happening to him. It wasn't until his mother walked in on him during another ability spike that the young boy got any of the answers he had so desperately started to crave. She herself had attended the British school as a teenager, but met their father close after graduation, and due to the secrecy around her 'kind', she had opted to keep her ability a secret.
After two weeks of his initial manifestation, Alexander walked through the gates of St. Bethany, on his way to start his brand new life as a mutant. He was scared. He was alone. He didn't know a single soul at the school, and he had traveled far, far from home, to a brand new country. Away from the safety of his home, his parents and everything he knew. But just like everyone else, the young Irishman learned to adapt.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~A tall man, approximately around 5'9 sits on a plane, gazing out the window with his bold, blue eyes. He narrows his eyes as he turns to the person sitting next to him, offering her a lopsided smirk. "I am so tired," he sighs solemnly and lifts his hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. He does however drop his hand as one of the the flight attendants pull up and smiles politely at him. "Good mornin', luv," he greets her and reaches out his hand to shakes her. Smiling shyly, the flight attendant shakes his hand and giggles. His smirk grows. "Yer quite the beauty, ain't ya?" he grins, almost mockingly so. The flight attendant flushes and hands him a menu of the various drinks, struggling to find her voice.
"Let's see what ya got here," he smirks, looking down at the menu. "My lads an' I will take a glass of yer finest bourbon," he smiles, batting his eyelashes. The flight attendant nods, though doesn't move right away. She lingers next to him, her cheeks flushed as she moves nervously. The woman next to the Irishman peeks up with a glare and the flight attendant's smile drops. "Awh, would ya stop," the man says, playfully giving the woman next to him a playful bump against her shoulder. "I apologize for my mate here. She can be quite da buzzkill."
As soon as the flight attendant leaves, the woman turns towards the man and grins wickedly. "Your charm never baffles to amaze me," she sighs, "To think that they fall so easily for your wickedness." The man smiles proudly. "I'm quite da charming lad," he winks. They both laugh warmly and looks at one another with mischievous glee.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~After graduating, Alexander returned home and spent a few years back in Ireland with his family until he finished college there. Once he finished college, the young Irishman decided to return to the academy and become a trainer there, which he has been ever since.
To Alexander, love and relationship was never something he put first. He much preferred being single and being able to do whatever he wanted. That doesn't mean he never dated, mind, it just never was for him, or rather, he never really met the right girl. He loved traveling and doing whatever he wanted, when he wanted, and as such, being single became a liberation rather than him being lonely.
Befriending a lot of amazing people, Alexander grew fond of the school's variety of students and staffers. One of them was Dean Walker; Despite their age difference, the two trainers grew close.
And when the opportunity of traveling once again reached Alexander's horizon in the form of the IMAC program... Well, needless to say, he jumped the rope immediately, and off to USA he went, curious about what the next few months is going to bring...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Standing in front of the giant building, his bright eyes glances over at the sign reading "Bellefonte Academy". He smirks as he gives his suitcase a shake. "Finally here, ey?" he says and turns to his mate, Dean. Grinning, he starts walking towards the doors, noticing the curious glances of the students around.
Once inside the building and their dorm, Alex doesn't manage to say much to his friend Dean before the Brit is out the door, hasting down the hall. Shaking his head, Alexander purses his lips, eagerly choosing the first, and obviously best room for himself. "Ayh, this is life, eh?" he says to himself as he plops down on the bed, chuckling to himself.
"Finder's keeper's."
