NAME: Savannah Austin Myers
NICKNAME: Austin
AGE: 20
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: College
FACE CLAIM: Mila Kunis
POWER:
Name of Power Cold/Ice Manipulation
Her particular affinity towards ice and the cold manifests in the way of being able to produce it from water that is already present and being able to lower the temperature of her skin.
Austin can form ice from water that is already surrounding her. The larger the body of water, the easier it is to make it. For example, if she were to simply touch a puddle, it may freeze completely. However, if she were at a lake, she may be able to freeze the whole surface or only part of the surface. At this level of her development, the thickness of the ice may be thick enough to walk on, but the further she develops, the larger amounts of water she can manipulte. This can also come from water vapor in the air, not just from physical water. This is more difficult for her to do since she has to draw in more energy to combine and freeze the molecules of water. The more dry an area is, the more difficult it is to produce it. The ice produces in the shape that she sees fit, learning more shapes as time goes on, but at this point, it mostly looks like icicles. These shards never get too big, typically about eight inches long if the air is just right for it. Whenever she wants to, she can lower the temperature of her skin. In a hot environment, she can lower it to be more comfortable.
Limitations
The amount of water she is trying to freeze may be impossible for her and the depth she is trying to reach may be unreachable. She can only freeze so much at a time. This grows with her development, but she would never be able to freeze a whole lake all the way through or the whole ocean. If the air is extremely dry, it may be difficult or impossible for her to produce ice from water vapor. There needs to be at least a little bit of humidity for her to be able to do it that way. She can only lower her skin temperature so much. Her skin could never feel below freezing, and at the moment, she can’t lower it more than 30 degrees of the outside temperature.
Side-Effects
-The more effort she puts into freezing a larger body of water or the harder she has to work to pull water from her environment to form ice, the more her body exhausts. This may result in physical exhaustion, like needing to take a nap or needing to sit down, or this may result in heavy stress on the body, like muscle tension or headaches.
- Her ability to use her powers may be affected by the mood she is in at the time. The more emotional she is, the more difficult it is to do the things she wants to do. And sometimes her powers manifest because of her emotions. The temperature of her skin may sporadically lower in a flare of anger or sadness. If the air is really moist, she may produce shards around her in these emotional fluctuations as well.
-Whenever she uses her power, her head will hurt for the next few seconds, or maybe even an hour, depending on how much she exerted herself. Whenever she really exerts herself, trying to do things beyond her limits, she may have a migraine for up to a day.
-Her powers also stress her out. In her adolescence, she didn't know this, and this is probably what led to a lot of her outbursts. The older she got and the more used to it she got, the easier it was to handle this aspect, but it makes her restless and tense up. This makes it difficult for her to relax after she uses her powers and it takes a toll on her emotionally when she uses them too much.
APPEARANCE SECTION: Savannah’s skin used to be sunkissed, but the longer she stays at the school and the more she delves into her power, the paler her skin becomes. Her hair color is naturally brown, but for as long as she has been allowed, her hair has been dyed black. Despite what she does to it, her hair is straight. She has rare moments when it will hold some volume or maybe even a curl, but typically it is long and straight, not that she minds. Her eyes are dark brown and large. When she doesn’t focus, she gets a real deer-in-the-headlights look, but when she’s angry, the real depth of them shows and the way she feels is unmistakable.
She isn’t tall in comparison to other girls, standing at about five foot three. Her build matches her height; small. She doesn’t have much to show for in any particular area; her waist is small, her bust is small, and her arms are toned. The only thing she admires about her body is her legs which make up most of the little height she has. She never wears much make up, other than the occasional eye liner and lipstick. She doesn’t do much to enhance her appearance, but some would say she doesn’t have to in order to look good.
MUST HAVE APPAREL: Austin mainly wears t-shirts and jeans. If she goes to work or goes out, she may dress up with a dressier shirt, black skirt, or even heels, but her favorite outfit consists of a black v-neck, her necklace, jeans, and black converse. When she gets the chance, she does enjoy dressing up and feeling fancy, but she doesn’t think she needs to to get attention. It just boosts her confidence. The necklace she wears every day is a small turquoise heart on a small silver chain. She wears this daily and would feel naked if, for whatever reason, she were to lose it or forget it.
PERSONALITY SECTION: Austin has a subtle confidence. The reason it is is subtle is because she doesn’t flaunt it in your face or talk about how awesome she is. She keeps that to herself and tries to convey it in her actions, rather than being outright about it. Like her confidence, she keeps most of her other emotions to herself and relies more on her actions to show how she’s feeling rather than telling the people around her. Because of this, it’s difficult for people to know when she actually cares about you. The only feelings she is outright about are the more negative emotions. For example, if she doesn’t like you, she will tell you. If you make her mad, she will yell at you. The way she deals with her emotions makes her seem unapproachable or at least difficult to get close to, which is the way Austin likes it.
Her fears are mostly irrational. Despite being pretty smart, or at least having a lot of potential to be so, none of her fears make sense. Her fears are darkness and heights and snakes. These things don’t make any sense, but she can’t help them. She prefers to be in the light, on the ground, and out of the wilderness.
Savannah generally likes to be around people, but she doesn’t like to be close to people. It is a fine line to ride, but she manages to do it. She doesn’t get attachments to people, but she enjoys spending time around them. She doesn’t like being physically close to people. This stems from the way her body temperature used to fluctuate without her realizing it and people commenting on how cold her body was. It led to some ridicule during her developmental years, and so now she just stays away from people in case it were to happen without her realizing.
EXTRA QUIRK: Austin likes to be a tease and sometimes she likes to confuse people. She will occasionally introduce herself as Savannah, then occasionally introduce herself as Austin, just to mess with people. Being a tease is fun for her because she knows that she will never actually let anyone close to her. So making people think it’ll happen and then pulling it away is fun for her.
FATHER: Trevor Myers
MOTHER: Kamilla Braun
SIBLINGS: Trevor Myers Jr. , Annalise Myers
PET: none
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
WORTHY MENTIONS: Marshall Taylor (Best friend besides brother)
CHILDHOOD: Savannah is the middle child. Whenever it was just her and Trevor, she was praised and her parents loved them equally. It’s not that they ever loved the three of them unequally, but there was visible preference once Annalise came along. See, Savannah’s mother was strikingly German. Blonde hair, blue eyes, the whole nine yards. The reason she was so German is because she was straight out of Germany. Her father was in the military in his younger days, they met on a deployment, and nine months later there was a baby and a marriage. This didn’t make for a completely healthy relationship, but what do you? They stuck it out and as soon as her dad’s contract was up, he came home to Florida for good and the Savannah was born.
So, this is where we pick up, Savannah’s life was good. She had an older brother to grow up with and her parents loved her. Well, her dad did more so outwardly. Her mother was always missing home and it bugged her that neither of her children looked even remotely like her. Trevor also had dark hair and dark eyes, contrasting their mother. They both adopted their father’s mixture of Cherokee indian and blue-collar American genes and they both had American names. When Annalise came along, the whole dynamic of the family changed. Annalise was blonde. She had blue eyes. And she got the German name. Her mother’s focus shifted to her new child and her father felt like he was in this awkward in between place of trying to love all three of his children equally and not show favoritism, even though their mother clearly did. This was a recurring theme throughout their childhood.
ADOLESCENCE: Somewhere between her childhood and her early teen years, it came out very slowly that her father was becoming more and more distant from the family, making Trevor and Savannah closer, avoiding Annalise and their mother as much as possible. Before Savannah turned eleven, they’d all found out her father was an alcoholic. At the time, she knew what it meant, but she didn’t know what it meant in the greater scheme of her life. Being in the military, stationed over seas, he’d been exposed to alcohol at a very young age. On the weekends, they drank all the time. And when he came home, he had felt like he was under all kinds of pressure to support his new wife and his new baby. The more children, the more pressure. Especially when his young bride was so difficult to handle in her later years.
One day, when Savannah was twelve, she got home and her father was gone. She looked around for him everywhere, confused. She looked for her brother and he was in the living room, along with the rest of her family, upset. Her mother was the only one that looked like she had a clue what was going on. Savannah stood there and looked to her for answers. Her dad had left, gone to rehab she said. She said he’d had a problem for a long time and they couldn’t help him anymore. Her life was going to slip into a sure hell. She and Trevor went to the beach that day and she sat on the beach and cried. Cried for as long as she had tears. She started to feel cold, despite the warm July summer sun. She felt her face where the tears had been and there was frost.
From the remainder of her time there, she stayed in her room. Every time she would cry, this would happen over and over again. Trevor wasn't allowed in the room, no one was, and all she could hear was her mother rampaging on a daily basis. She was in a chilly hell and she was scared. This went on for about three weeks that summer and then she was being whisked away to go to this school for children with abilities. As if adjusting to her life wasn’t difficult enough at this point, she was ripped away from everyone else. When she got to the school, she was pissed. She wanted her brother. She wanted her dad. And she certainly didn’t want this crap. She didn’t even know if her dad was back home yet.
Her anger towards the school led to a couple of very rough years. Of course, everyone there had their issues and their discipline problems. Savannah held her anger on her sleeve, she wasn’t going to keep it pent up. So everyone knew this was not a place she wanted to be. Her grades were passing, but not that great. Her progress with her ability was greater than she ever let on. Her anger and disdain fueled its progression, but no one at the school would know unless she wanted them to. And she didn’t. Because she hated every single one of their guts.
Her anger started to subside once she got closer to graduation. This life became more normal and she hated everyone less. Now, she was just there to get by and managed to do so. She made a few acquaintances along the way, but most people chose to keep their distance.
ADULTHOOD: Getting out of the school changed her personality completely. She didn’t feel constrained and she actually cared to do well in school at this point, so college was completely doable for her. This place almost felt like her home. She continued to stay because she knew that going back home may never feel like home again. There may not be a family. there may not be her father, and there may not be her brother. So going back didn’t seem possible to her.
Being an adult, in college, holding down a job, makes her feel much better about life. Her attitude is still the same, but she’s grown out of much of the aggression she previously held and now spends time trying to harness the ability and letting her emotions get to her less. She still doesn’t have a big group of friends, but she can be around people and be happy, rather than being upset. She still misses her family and things about them all the time. She harnesses a lot of guilt and pain because of the distance, but she knows going back to that could trigger all sorts of emotions she isn’t ready to handle.
SAMPLE: The night was cold, wind blowing, menacing clouds overhead. The type of night that usually freaks everyone out due to all the strange noises and suspicious shadows. But not Alec Carson. This night was what he loved. It was nature at its best, showcasing the power it had for all the world to see. Showing that it was, ultimately, stronger than any force in this world, including those magical beings at Southwarks's sister school that thought they could out do anything. It wasn't that Alec had anything against the school, though he had every reason to. He didn't care if someone was magical or not. But he did believe all Wizards and Witches thought they were better than muggles whether they would admit it or not. They were all born feeling a little supirior to those who couldn't do magic just because they were different, and that was okay. It's not like Alec could do anythign to change it, even if he wanted to.
As the night continued to put on a show, the long-haired boy walked the halls of the school, a bag in his hand, looking for a room that wasn't inhabited by a teacher staying up late to grade papers. It didn't take long to find one that wasn't too far from the dorm room. It was just any other classroom, tables and chairs, posters on the wall, the usual. He sat down the bag down on the table, unzipping it and pulling out his guitar. He sat down on the desk across from the case and put the guitar in his lap. This was his first accoustic guitar. His parents bought this for im after he threatened to try and switch to a public school, though he wouldn't really do it. Sure, it was a pretty underhanded way to make sure he got what he wanted, but there was really no way of getting anything with them. They had the things they wanted him to do, and if he did them, he still wouldn't get a reward. He felt as if he should get at least a small one, but in order to get it, he had to manipulate them. It wasn't that bad, really. They were much worse to him.
He contemplated it for a moment and strummed a few chords, not really knowing what to play. He really needed to practice. Just get better at the instrument rather than playing the same songs over and over again or creating the new ones. That could be considered getting better, but he wasn't any more skilled than he was. He sighed and did a couple of scales slowly, then faster, then faster, though he fumbled over the frets, playing a couple of wrong notes. "Dammit." He whispered under his breath, then tried the scale again, trying to get it down, though it seemed as if he wouldn't be able to get it going this fast for awhile. He sighed, frustrated, as he cast his guitar aside, leaning it against the table. It was so frustring to not be able to play something so simple. Maybe it was because he was tired, though he didn't want to fool himself with such thoughts. It was simply because he wasn't good enough.
