"It was afore that!" snapped Beau, gesturing and letting out a groan of frustration, "an' you know it!" he added in a quick burst of anger. It had been: it had been when they'd started talking about music, or when they'd talked over the breakfast or--
or what was she talking about? They seriously set fire to the place out of jealousy? Beau stared, not quite believing what he heard. They... that really was a horrible reason. An awful, horrible reason for something that horrible.
"That's awful," agreed Beau, looking down at Liz's feet, "an' it jus' goes to show how stupid people really are," he looked away for a moment, "but they ain't burned you down, an' it don't look like they got everythin'," he looked around for a bit, then landed back on Liz. "So why you hangin' out in here? 'fraid that people are gonna come in an' see that you ain't so beastly after all?"

She refused to believe that what Beau was saying was that he liked her when she was still a scraggly looking girl. The thought of that was so foreign to her.
"Yeah, and you forgot stupid." She added unnecessarily before shaking her head. "They got everything that mattered. I didn't know how much it would hurt to have my family wiped out in a single fire. I didn't even get to see their bodies. They just disappeared." She shook her head.
"People are a lot of work. I only trust my staff. They're my family and we know each other well and that's all I need. And you need to go back to your family. And maybe convince the townsfolk that I'm not a monster and to stop egging my front lawn."

Beau hear the stupid comment, wincing a little. This whole mess sounded pretty stupid to his ears, but he certainly couldn't think of a way of better phrasing it or organizing it or anything. Though he did notice that she said that her family just... disappeared. And seeing as they were acting out a Disney movie, that meant that the only one who probably had actually passed away was Liz's mother... assuming she'd been alive at the time of the fire in the first place.
He did agree that people were lot of work though, even nodding, though the rest had him shaking his head. "My family is gonna be worried an' all," he did admit, "so... I guess I should probly check in on 'em or somethin'. An' I didn't see too many eggs on the front lawn; you sure htat wasn't jus' some sorta leftover thing from Easter?"
He grinned at that last, hoping that the joke would help lighten the mood, since it seemed like they needed that and they'd neglected to drum up a comic relief.
