NAME: Alice Theresa Hobbs
NICKNAME: Ali
AGE: 18
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Bisexual, but prefers men. She thinks.
POSITION: College Student
FACE CLAIM: Shay Mitchell
POWER: Dragonfly Wings and Hallucinogenic Dust
Flight & Wings
Alice's mutation has given her a pair (four in total) of fully functional, blue/pink-ish colored dragonfly wings that give her the ability to fly with "great maneuverability". She is agile in the air, able to turn on a dime and slightly faster than that of a human sprint, though she can't keep up those speeds for longer than half an hour before needing to rest/stop. Normal flight speed for her is approximately that of a human jog, and can last between 45 minutes to an hour. She is able to "hover" by flying in a space that is about a three foot cube, though she's never entirely still unless she lands, and can't lift more than she can physically carry in the air with her. Her maximum height of (stable) flight is generally around 5 meters (16 feet), though she might be able to better this with more training.
Her wings work very much the same way like that of a dragonfly, where each of her four wings operate independently. The four wings allow Alice to produce higher forces, allowing acceleration and climbing while, if the wings flap with the right timing, the lower wings are able to reduce the energy wasted. Any air motion that isn't downward fails to support the body and is wasteful, but Alice's four wings are able to use their lower wings to recover energy wasted in side to side air motion in the wake - if they're flapped at the right time.
Flapping with two pairs is more efficient - by around 20 per cent - because it required less power to lift the same weight as just one pair of wings.
Hallucinogenic Dust:
Alice naturally secretes an organic compound that dries on contact with the air, which comes from her flapping her wings (This usually happens intentionally, but can happen on accident when she gets scared/agitated). She can concentrate and, usually focus her "pixie dust" on a single target to throw it at them, which works very much like a small sandstorm. She is unable to make it manifest into any forms as of right now, like for example a ball. She has no control over what her victim sees or experiences while under the influence of her dust, though this may change in the future when she has more control.
The effects can range from mildly distracting, to incapacitating depending on one's susceptibility to toxins. It must be either breathed, eaten, or somehow taken internally (including getting it in one's eyes) in order for it to take effect. Strong winds, rain, snow, and other inclement weather dampen the effects of her "pixie dust" by dispersing it or washing it out of the air. The effects last anywhere from five minutes (one round) to several hours, depending on the dose that one receives and their resistance to toxins. Those that are totally immune to organic toxins, like snake venom, are also immune to her dust.
Limitations & Side-Effects:
Since her wings aren't constantly out, they're shaped as a tattoo down her back and over her ribs whenever they're not in use. Absorbing the wings back into the body and having them expelled is very painful. It's as if a thousand needles pokes through her outer skin at all times, and it has somewhat of a burning sensation.
Flying and using her wings causes her back to ache. She can feel the pain from her neck and the entire way down to her lower back, and sometimes she can feel the ache in her shoulders and down her arms, depending on how often and how long she has her wings out and how much she uses them for flying.
When it rains, she usually has more trouble flying. The more rain, and the wetter her wings get, the less maneuverability she has, and the slower she gets, until her wings get wet enough, and she won't be able to fly at all. Same thing goes for wind; Even the slightest breeze of wind might throw her off her course, and the stronger the wind is, the less control she will have in the air.
Alice has grown somewhat resistant to any mind-altering drugs, which means that it will in most cases have no affect on her mind (Basically, she'd have to drink a lot of alcohol in order to get drunk). It will however have the same effect on her body as it would any other humans. (Like for example causing damage on her organs, depending on the drug.)
She sometimes experiences people not taking her seriously when she talks or explains something, which is caused by her "Hallucinogenic Pixie Dust". This is very stressful and often very annoying. Especially when whatever she's telling is serious and she wants to bring a message out.
Other side effects include, muscle and body aches, headaches, migraines and stuffed nose, which can often lead to nosebleeds, disorientation, restlessness, hyperactivity, trouble sleeping, insomnia and occasional blurred vision.
APPEARANCE SECTION: Alice has a bronze colored skin that gives her the impression of always being tanned. She doesn't tan easily, nor does her natural skin color fade, so she has an all year round bronzed tone to her skin. Complimented with this, Alice has a pair of dark brown eyes she loves highlighting with dark makeup, preferably some black eyeliner, some golden eyeshadow (though, sometimes she goes for even darker), black mascara and a lighter shade on her lips, preferably some kind of pink hue.
When it comes to her hair, Alice has naturally voluminous curls that fall to her mid back. She rarely does anything to style it and usually keeps her curls hanging loose down her back. She does however have her hair parted on the side. Her hair is dark brown, but tends to get a little lighter when exposed to sunlight for longer periods of time, so her hair is often lighter during the summer than what it is during the winter.
Standing about 5'8 feet above ground, Alice is a little taller than most of her peers, and she has a slim but curvy build. She weighs around 121 pounds and often compliment her build by wearing high heels and tight fitting clothes, preferably dresses, skinny jeans and tops or singlets that show some cleavage. She doesn't necessarily do this for attention, but she believes strongly that female curves should be appreciated and worn proudly, which is what she does, and does so shamelessly.
Walking with a cold confidence, Alice's posture often appear aggressive or even a little reserved. That doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy smiling, or even laughing, but she is however a little guarded which is apparent on her often nervous hand gestures and her averting her gaze.
MUST HAVE APPAREL: A pair of silver earrings she found in her mother's old stash after she left. She never wears them, but she keeps them close. She cannot sleep without having them under her pillow; She isn't sure why she does this, or even when she started doing it, but it brings a sense of comfort to her.
PERSONALITY SECTION: Alice hates being touched by strangers. She won't freak out, or even react much when they do, but she doesn't appreciate it at all. She can often become stiff and even nervous around larger groups of people, and even though she's not anti social, she's the quiet person of the group, never really doing anything to attract attention to herself. She's not as aggressive or even as cold as she might appear on first glance, but she is extremely guarded and doesn't trust people easily. This of course doesn't mean she isn't a happy girl, but it takes her a little longer to warm up to people.
She might be a little shy in some cases, but even when her expression is deadpan or her tone monotone, she doesn't really mean to come off as uncaring. As stated before, it takes her a little longer to warm up to people and feel comfortable around them, but once she has, they get to see a completely different side of her; A much more relaxed and easy going person than what others might have a chance of seeing.
Despite being very serious at times, Alice loves to laugh and have fun, just like any other teenager her age, but because of her past, she is a little more mature, responsible and independent than a lot of other people. She knows how to take care of herself, and even though she isn't a big talker, she isn't afraid to speak her mind.
When in an uncomfortable situation (which happens a lot), she is easy to fluster and she blushes easily, but can become a little defensive if pushed. She is the kind of person to pull away instead of attack confrontation head on, unless she really feels the need to. She isn't a fan of unnecessarily drama and tends to dislike people that crave attention and constantly puts themselves in the spotlight. Nor does she like people who treats other disrespectfully, or those who hurts people just because they can.
In some cases, Alice has proven to be very hypocritical and ignorant to the world around her, and has on several occasions grown very defensive and even downright petty if this is pointed out. She is however very overprotective of the people she cares about and will stop at nothing in order to make sure that they are okay, especially if it's her younger sister, Molly, who is her 'rock'.
EXTRA QUIRK: Whenever Alice is nervous, she twists her hair around her index finger, and can very rarely keep her hands still. They seem to constantly tug, touch or do something, and it has become a very visible character trait of hers.
FATHER: Michael Hobbs, Alive
MOTHER: Sarah Jones, Unknown
SIBLINGS: Molly Hobbs, younger sister.
PET: A turtle named Squirtle.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
WORTHY MENTIONS: Elizabeth Edison, best friend.
CHILDHOOD: Alice was born in Montana, Kalispell to Michael Hobbs and Sarah Jones. Her parents never got married, and truth be told, Alice never really cared to ask, nor was she old enough to. She doesn't remember much from her earliest years, as you can imagine, but she knows that when she was around a year old, she got a baby sister, Molly. The two sisters were close even from the start, and it was easy to see that despite the lack of any huge age difference, Alice quickly grew overprotective of the year younger child.
When Alice was about four, Sarah, the two girl's mother packed up and left, without any real explanation, besides some screwed up story about no longer being able to keep up with their father's bullshit, and thus the young woman left her family for another man. Their father, Michael fell into a long state of depression which mostly surrounded around alcohol, spending money and doing nothing good with his life.
In the beginning, it wasn't too bad, as it seemed as their father at least found some joy in the fact that he still had his daughters, but as Alice and Molly grew older, it became apparent that both of the girls, especially Molly looked quite a lot like their mother. It became harder for their father to be around their daughters, and as the years progressed, he more or less left the two girls to do as they pleased.
Truth be told, Alice didn't really mind. Why would she? She didn't know much else than her father being absent. She was used to it. It also taught her to become independent and how to take care of herself, and her sister.
ADOLESCENCE: Things changed though, when Alice was eleven and manifested. She woke up one day with severe back pain, and as the day progressed, the pain became almost unbearable. She stepped into the bathroom to take a look and she noticed these faint trails of black ink down her back, looking almost like two pairs of dragonfly wings. Understandably, the young girl had no idea what was happening to her, and she wasn't quite sure who to ask either. But as she stepped outside the bathroom, she suddenly fell to her knees, and it felt as if her entire back was splitting in half. She could even hear the skin tear, and before she knew it, she had grown two pairs of blue, pink-ish wings.
The young girl had absolutely no idea what had happened and in a state of panic, she rushed into her sister's bedroom. Molly tried calming her sister down, but Alice could see from the look in her eyes that neither she knew quite how to deal with all of it.
It didn't take much more than a day before the recruiters arrived at their home and explained everything. Not wanting to leave her sister, Alice remained living in their home as she attended the school.
She had a hard time coming to terms with her new 'lifestyle'. She couldn't quite grasp the fact that she was now a mutant. It became obvious though, that their mother had been a mutant with the same ability as Alice had manifested, and the mutant gene had transferred from mother to daughter.
What Alice didn't expect though, was that shortly after, Molly manifested too and became a student at the academy herself, with the same ability as both her older sister and their mother.
Once Molly was sent to the school, it became a little easier for Alice to adjust, knowing that her sister was alright and that she could look after her during the day as well. Alice did however have a hard time making friends. She was rather reserved and aggressive towards people she didn't know or felt comfortable around. She remained overprotective of her sister and made sure no harm came to her, even to the point of being clingy.
ADULTHOOD: Alice entered adulthood not too long ago, and there's not a whole lot to be said about it, other than her trying her best at succeed at life, just like every other kid her age does. She just recently graduated from Bellefonte, and once school starts back up again, she's ready to become a college student. Over the summer, the brunette worked as a waitress down in Kalispell, which she has planned on continuing even when school starts back up again.
She still keeps a watchful eye over her sister, but with her being a college student and her sister still being a student, this might prove to be a little more difficult in the future, but of course, this is not enough to deter the young woman.
Alice is ready to embark on the next journey of her life, and even though it might now show, she's actually looking forward to growing up and doing something with her life. She has decided on studying medicine so that she can become a surgeon in the future, so most of her focus has and will go to her studies.
