NAME: Katerina Raquelle Blackwell (Maiden name; Bouvier)
NICKNAME: Kat, Kit-Kat, Katnip (whatever have you)
AGE: 27
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Local - Journalist
FACE CLAIM: Jennifer Love Hewitt
POWER:
Pain Illusion
Katerina has the ability to create a false feeling of pain on herself and/or others, usually by touch, though, Katerina has learned how to do this without touching (This is done through a mental link, the same way certain other mental powers would work), as long as it is within a certain range (Check limitations). Basically, what Katerina does is that she tricks the mind into thinking that it is in physical pain. However, this doesn't actually hurt the body, but it's a good way to put targets down for a certain amount of time (Again, check limitations). She can also choose what kind of pain, and where it's felt she inflicts upon herself, or others by focusing on said area, and thinking about the amount/kind of pain she wishes to inflict.
It is possible for Katerina to make an illusion strong enough for people to actually faint with pain, and it can drive people to the point of insanity, though this is of course something she cannot control, as people are different when it comes to how much pain they can take and tolerate. This ability can be used as a form of torture, or a device to pleasure others (Depending on the strength and area).
When emotionally unstable, she has little to no control over her ability. She can inflict the illusions on anyone, regardless of where or to whom her emotions are directed towards, though it's more likely for her to use it against someone she's angry with, or someone who has hurt her.
Limitations:
◆ The range of her ability (when she's not touching them for it to work) can go as far as 15 metres.
◆ How long she can put targets down depends entirely on how well rested she is, and how much pain she inflicts on them (And of course, how much pain they can take), but varies between a few minutes to a few hours.
◆ Katerina can only use her ability on a small group of people at once (5-7), and she cannot create any real damage on anyone, since it's nothing more than an illusion. Basically, she tricks the brain into thinking it's under constant pain, and she can only do this for an hour at a time before the nosebleed and severe migraine kicks in.
◆ She has to be able to actually see her targets for her to cause them to feel any of her illusions, and it works even better if eye contact have been made, and it doesn't work through obstacles (Closed doors, other rooms, walls, etc).
◆ People with mental shields (People who can block out certain mental abilities/attacks) are usually immune or highly resistant (All depending on their level of training) against her powers.
Side-Effects:
◆ Headaches that can develop into migraines when the mind is put under strain.
◆ Nose bleeds (This happens whenever she pushes herself too far or too hard).
◆ She's prone to having nightmares, which isn't as much a side-effect as her subconscious dealing with the sight of seeing someone in severe pain by replaying the memory in her dreams. Trouble sleeping, insomnia are other side-effects that comes from both the nightmares and her actual ability.
◆ Nausea, loss of focus/concentration and restlessness are other common side-effects by the usage of this ability.
If I die young, bury me in satin
''Tell me about your childhood, Mrs. Blackwell. Where were you born?''
Katerina chuckles and waves her hand at the reporter, ''It's Ms. I'm divorced,'' she says with a smile before pursing her lips, ''Well. I was born in France. More accurately; Dijon, november second, 1987.'' With this, Katerina leans further back in her seat. ''My mother was a struggling artist, and I never knew my father. I guess you could say that all in all, I didn't really lack much. I mean, of course, money was tight and there was times I wished things were different. I also wished I had known my father, or had some kind of father figure to look up to, but then again, what young girl doesn't?''
The reporter nods slightly before turning her attention back towards the notebook in her hand, ''I see. What else? Anything out of the ordinary happen to you? What did you do? What were your dreams?''
''I can't really say anything extraordinary happened during my childhood, but I was happy. I was a happy child that did things children usually do. I had friends, I went to school and I had hobbies; Writing has always been a hobby of mine.'' Katerina sighs and smiles as she looks out the window. ''I was your typical girly-girl who loved anything that sparked, pink clothes and wished that somewhere out there, there was a prince that would come along and sweep me off my feet,'' she adds with a laugh.
''Did your prince ever come?''
''Getting a little ahead of ourselves, aren't we? I'll get to that.''
''Fair enough. What else can you tell me?''
''My mother and I lived together in a small studio apartment. It wasn't anything big or fancy, but it was enough. Hand-me-downs and leftovers was as much part of my life as money are to a hooker-- I'm sorry. That was a lame joke.'' Shaking her head, Katerina sighs. ''I don't think my mother ever got over my father, as there was never a new man in her life. For as long as I can remember it was just the two of us, and everytime I tried asking about him, she got really distant. I think he might have broken her heart. But it's only natural for someone the be curious about who their father is, right? I like to believe so.''
''Yeah, I think so too-'' the reporter says with a soft smile, ''-I think I would be curious too.''
''I inherited my looks from my father as I have brown hair, brown eyes and stand 5'2ft above ground while my mother was tall and blonde. She was also rather scrawny and flat while I have a more curvy form. I didn't even inherit her artistic talent. My mother was a free-spirited woman who did whatever the heck she wanted, regardless of the social norms and standards. It was one of the things I liked the most about her.''
Lay me down on a bed of roses
The reporter laughs and wipes a tear from the corner of her eye. She remains silent as she waits for the brunette to continue. Something in her eyes has changed; They appear more lit up, somehow. Happier.
''When I was eleven, my ability manifested. I don't remember the exact details, as there was nothing in particular that caused it to happen. It just did, and shortly after, a recruiter from a school named St. Cadou came to visit us.'' Katerina says, absentmindedly tapping her fingers against the armrest of the chair. ''They told me I was a mutant and that I had no choice but to go with them to Romania. So, clearly, I didn't have much of a say and I hated the idea of leaving my mother, but truth be told, I was excited.'' Katerina smiles and pauses before taking a deep breath. ''There has always been this little adventurer hiding inside me that rejoiced over the idea of visiting another country. And the knowledge about me being a mutant too? Well, needless to say, for an eleven year old girl that seemed to be the closest thing to magic I would ever come across.''
''St. Cadou was nice. The people were nice too; It was your typical boarding school, at least apart from the fact that we all had one or another form of superpowers anyways. I met a lot of people there too; Some of which I still talk to today. Bonds were forged and memories were made. I learned to control my ability too, or at least to some level. All in all, I enjoyed my stay there.'' Katerina shifts her position in the chair and continues to cross her long, slender feet.
The reporter nods and scribbles down something on the white paper in front of her. ''That's where you met--'' she stops, and a sheepish grin forms on her lips. ''I'm sorry. Continue.''
''Yes, I met my ex-husband at St. Cadou when I was fifteen. His name was Alexander Blackwell-- as you already know, and he was this gorgeous American transfer student from Bellefonte Academy, which apparently was the founding school of, well all the other 'mutant' schools out there.'' Katerina says, bopping her head before grinning. It appears that there are no hard feelings in the picture. ''We hit it off right away, and needless to say that man charmed me from the very beginning. Shortly after, we started dating, and things were fantastic.'' A soft sigh can be heard escaping the brunette's lips.
However, the smile previously displayed on her lips turns sadder, ''My mother died in a car crash when I was sixteen, and I had to take a few weeks off from school to get the funeral and the like in order. It was tough, as you can imagine. It took a lot to learn how to deal, and not being able to talk to my mother whenever I wanted to. She had been my rock for so long, and despite our differences, she was always there for me. But life had to go on, and somehow, I found a way to deal with it. Alexander helped me through it, and I don't think I'll ever be able to thank him enough for that.''
''I'm so sorr-''
''Don't be. That's life. Sadly, it happens.''
Sink me in the river at dawn
Katerina continues, ''When I turned eighteen, Alexander and I moved to America soon after graduation. We settled down in New York, which was where I started college. I started studying journalism, whereas Alexander, just like the rest of his family, got involved in law. His family is well off and well known around America, and for the first time in my life, I didn't have to worry about anything. Everything was covered, paid for and settled.''
''So... He was your sugar daddy?'' the reporter asks, grinning.
''Something like that,'' Katerina laughs.
''When Alexander and I turned twenty-one, we got married. It was a huge wedding with a lot of publicity; Which wasn't all that odd, considering how famous his family is. I became a part of the Blackwell family and legacy, and we were happy. Or we thought we was, anyways. Being poor and married into such a renowned family has its downsides too, but I didn't care. I was madly in love, and as long as I could continue my schooling and be with the person I loved, I was willing to go along with just about anything.'' Katerina shifts her position again and folds her hands in her lap, shaking her head a little. Her cheeks turns red and she chuckles.
''Once I finally finished school, I was ready to start a career of my own, but sadly, the Blackwell family had other plans for me. They put my education to what they seemed to see as good use, and they used me to further their own reputation. Truth be told, I didn't really mind it so much. It wasn't how I had expected it all to turn out, but I didn't complain.''
''Do you regret it now, looking back?''
''No, not at all. I was happy.''
Send me away with the words of a love song
''But sadly; Marriage wasn't all it was cracked up to be. With our two different lines of work, and with all the travelling, we grew distant. We barely talked anymore. It was almost like living with a stranger; It simply didn't work. We didn't want kids. Or maybe it was more that we didn't want kids with each other. I loved him, don't take me wrong, but he wasn't the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. As we grew older, we also grew apart.'' Leaning back, Katerina rests her elbow against the armrest and places her chin against the back of her hand.
''Do you still love him?''
''Oh yes. I will always love Alexander, but sometimes, that's not enough.''
''What do you mean?''
''We weren't happy together. We're still friends, and we talk regularly; But it simply did not work. We got married too early, too quickly, and didn't allow ourselves the opportunity to grow as individuals before throwing ourselves into the pool of life.''
''I see.'' The reporter shakes her head before tapping her pen against the notebook. ''What happened then?''
''We talked, and decided that we would be happier apart than together. It was a mutual agreement. But sadly, his family did not agree, so instead, we had to get a divorce in secret,'' Katerina says, ''But of course, secrets can only be kept for so long, so when they found out, they created a huge story behind how and why things had ended the way it did. Alexander and I didn't stand for it, and eventually--''
''You mean now? That's what this interview is? For you to share your story?''
''Correct.''
''I suppose being a journalist yourself helps a lot,'' the reporter laughs. She smiles as Katerina nods, ''What now? What are you doing? Where do you live? What are your next goals? Are you looking for love?''
''You don't hold your breath, do you?'' Katerina laughs. ''Well,'' she begins, smiling. ''After the divorce, I moved to Montana, Kalispell-''
''Why? Why Montana out of all places?''
''Because Alexander told me I'd like it here. Even though we're divorced, he is still my best friend.'' Katerina smiles. ''As I was saying... I moved to Montana to get a fresh start and get away from the big city life. I've always enjoyed smaller towns and nature, so it seemed like a good fit for me. I'm still a journalist, and I work to better the image of the school, Bellefonte Academy on the site. Especially with SPECTRE running around-''
''What are your views on SPECTRE?''
''...''
''My goals? I don't know. Live, laugh, love? No, I don't have any goals, not like that. I've never been one to plan everything. I enjoy being spontaneous and take everything as it comes. The same thing goes for love.''
''Are you happy?''
''Oh yes. I am very happy.''
SAMPLE:Katerina slid the folder across the desk as a sigh fell from her lips. Peeking up, she gazed at the man sitting across from her on the other side of the table. She didn't know him, nor did she think she cared to. He wasn't exactly the kind of person Katerina usually had to deal with, which was probably a good thing. She didn't fear him, even as uncomfortable as his icy stare made her. He was intimidating. There was no doubt about it, but she would be damned if she backed down now.
''I'm sorry, sir.'' Katerina shook her head. ''I don't think I'd be able to help you.'' The main remained quiet. He simply sat there, staring at her. Scrunching her eyebrows, Katerina leaned back into her chair and folded her hands across her lap. She too fell silent. There was no sound in the room apart from the ticking clock on her desk and the occasional honk from a car somewhere outside the building. It just made the situation seem a lot more eerie than what either of them had meant for it to.
''I don't care about the money,'' she added and looked away at last. ''I won't help you find him - nor will I help you bring him down. Whatever he did to you, or your family is no longer any of my concern.'' She knew it would be like this. Of course it was. After all, one didn't simply divorce the son of one of the larger law firms without there being some repercussions. ''I am well aware of the situation, but trust me when I tell you that I have absolutely no interest in helping you, or this case.'' She almost suspected that the man couldn't speak. After all, he had walked in here in silence and handed her the folder with the envelope and letter attached within it.
Finally, the man opened his mouth to speak - or so Katerina thought. Instead, he smiled. It wasn't a pleasant smile. Oh no, it was a toothless grin followed by a soundless laughter that seemed to fit directly into a Stephen King movie. Arching her eyebrow, Katerina felt the sudden urge to neutralize the threat. She didn't know why, or how the man had done such a thing, but he scared her.
And if there was one thing Katerina Blackwell did not like, it was people who purposely made others feel smaller by backing them into a corner. ''You should leave.'' She said. ''Before I call security.'' This was ending here.
There was no chance in hell that she was going to give them any information on her ex-husband. Even if they were divorced, it didn't mean there was any bad blood. It made her a little sad, knowing that most people jumped to that conclusion. Neither of them deserved the drama revolving around their divorce.
''Now,'' she added coldly.
