The Missing Piece Theorem

Add nodded. She was quite certain that she would be of tremendous help to Seiji in his endeavors. Plus, she was certainly looking forward to something to use her impressive talents toward, something that would be more invigorating than attempting to balance books or something inane like that. She took more sips of her drink, already anticipating how she would go about aiding him, mentally putting various things into mental boxes.

The question got her attention though, and she looked over at Seiji. Part of her was curious as to why he would ask, but she didn't see any reason not to answer: "Twenty-two," she said, speaking clearly. She didn't bother to ask him his age; she hardly thought that age was appropriate. It was only a number assigned to how long you'd lived so far. Of far greater importance was what you'd managed to do in the time allotted to you.

Seiji answered her question though, explaining his situation, which had Add nodding. She continued to sip at her drink noting that there wasn't all that much left in it. The drink was running out, which wouldn't give them much more reason to stay here. Seiji's explanation though, that was far more interesting than a drink, and Add focused on that. "I can appreciate such a clarity of purpose. I feel as though mine is somewhat lacking here," she tapped her fingers against her mug for a bit, considering, "but things are falling into place. Perhaps I shall be able to find my place,' she nodded, feeling that there was a Fate of some kind in store for her, and she was willing to accept it.

Add drained her mug.

"Wow, two years younger than me. Then again age never really was something that prevented someone from having a great mind." Seiji said, clearing that up, not really concerned about her age all that much. He was just curious and putting into prospective how long she had been alive and living with her mutation. It also caused him to wonder if she was already a prodigy long before her ability and when it came to be it just increased her knowledge to that of a newer level. She had to be using more of her brain then the normal human being did. He was sure of it, just as he was sure that mutations could be passed in a family and that there was always a way to work around a problem a mutation caused. There had to be.

Seiji too was getting near with his drink, but was happy to be in the company of Add, but she was speaking. Making it clear that with her drink now being gone that she herself was most likely going to be doing the same. He could understand that, no need to linger around if there was nothing more to discuss or to do with one another. "Ah, I understand." Seiji responded as he finished up the last of his drink and collected Leevi who now moved to make his way back into a hidden position on Seiji's body as the college man held out a hand to Add. "I'm sure you will, until then. It was very nice talking to you Add and I look forward to working with you. I uh...also hope that we will become good friends." Seiji said with a small and slightly embarrassed smile, but he had said it, meant it, and was hoping for it.

Two years younger indeed. Add felt that she still had a lot to accomplish, but something told her that she'd need to work fast. Perhaps she could feel Fate looming in the wings, urging her on, insisting that something important lay in her near future, that perhaps her time on this Earth would be somehow limited. She couldn't help but shake that ominous feeling, no matter how many times she went over the math. why would someone like her be in threat? No matter; she'd worry about such things later.

Seiji offered friendship as Add rose, and she stared at him, blinking. How many friends did she have, exactly, here? Not many. Not enough by most standards. Would anyone miss her if her Fate did come tomorrow? Most likely not. Most likely people would forget that Adelaide McLisk had ever returned to Bellefonte; she'd become nothing more than perhaps an interesting footnote in the longterm history of this place. Maybe she could accomplish something before that happened, make something.

She certainly felt like she'd started something now. She nodded at Seiji, smiling a full smile, one that actually showed teeth. 'Yes, I believe that is quite possible,' she said, nodding again. "If nothing else, I hope that ours will be a fruitful relationship. I relish the opportunity of contributing something before my time here comes to an end."

Add walked over to the snake, giving it a few pats and a quick scratch under the chin. She then nodded to Seiji one last time and turned, walking out of the little cafe, feeling confident that she was walking off to meet her Fate.

He had gotten a smile out of her, a full smile and he felt his heart do a little flutter. Not that he had fallen for her in that moment, but he did feel something stir inside of him at seeing that smile. He was worried that Add did not smile but there was one, a full smile that showed her beautiful teeth. He did feel odd about her choice of words and it was a little bit unsettling for the college boy with the power to communicate with snakes but still learning how to deal and understand humans in terms of interactions. "Until next time Adelaide." Seiji said, confident that they would have a good relationship despite her ominous words. Leevi enjoy the pat and scratch and was making good comments as Add left. Seiji watching her in silence until she was out of site. He was a bit unsettled but cleaned up the puzzle without taking it complete apart and would head home.
