Matt was walking down the streets, his hands buried deep in his pockets and his eyes fixed on the ground. Walking around with non-mutants nearby made him feel even more uncomfortable than spending time in school.
At least in school he knew there wouldn't be an anti-mutant guy trying to attack him. But well, no one here could know he was a mutant, no one here could know who he was all together, so actually there was no real reason to be nervous, but he guessed it was just too soon to go through town relaxed and without looking in every narrow aisle before passing it.
He sighed, he hated having to do the shopping, but he couldn't make his roommates do it all the time, either - everybody had to do it at some point. That was the deal.
Looking up from the ground he realised he had reached the super market already and his roommate's had explained him where to get what, so he hoped it wouldn't take too long.
He was just going to go inside, when he heard an awfully loud crashing noise right behind him. He spun around, his eyes wide open from shock, not sure what he was going to see and not sure whether he wanted to see it at all.
There were bits of cars everywhere, two completely wrecked car bodies standing in the middle of the road, jammed against each other, smoke rising up from their motors.
Matt looked around, waiting for something to happen, but no one moved, everyone just stared at the wrecks, too shocked to do anything.
But someone had to do something, anything. Matt could do something; he could actually do quite a lot. Was he hurt? He looked at his hands, trying to remember. No. He hadn't done anything... no scratch, no cuts, let alone any serious injuries. Healing would be without any risk right now, he could save a life, why was he hesitating?
He lifted his head again, some people had gotten out their phones, obviously calling the police and the ambulance, but still... whoever was in those cars was still jammed between car-pieces and probably dying.
Matt had to help, to heal. Nothing could go wrong anyway, right? He walked towards the cars first, but started running pretty soon, his arm in front of his face, as there was still thick dust in the air. He decided to go to the car closer to him first, trying to find the driver somewhere in between of broken plastic, glass and motor.
It took him some time and when he found the woman, he had to look away for a second, before he could pull himself together and climb through the broken window.
"Hey, can you hear me?", he knew, it was pretty much useless, but he could at least try. As expected the woman didn't make a sound. Matt moved himself closer to her, until he could reach out and take both of her shoulders. He grabbed her tight, starting the healing process already and pulling her out of the car. He knew like this his power wouldn't be enough for both of the drivers, but he couldn't save both of them anyway, so the least he could do was help one of them and hope the ambulance was here early enough for the other one.
It took surprisingly long to get her out of the car and as they had reached fresh air again, he could feel his heartbeat slowing down already, making him dizzy. However, the woman seemed to be breathing and her own heartbeat grew stronger and stronger each second. She could make it. He took her wrist, feeling her pulse and trying speed up the healing, even though her pulse was more stabile now, he still had to hurry up.
