Guylian Phoenix Dove
28//MALE//PANSEXUAL//SUGGESTION//TEACHER//TOM HIDDLESTON
POWER INFO:
The power of “suggestion”, can also be referred to as “siren” like abilities. Simply by adjusting his voice, making it almost velveteen and inviting, Guylian can “lace” his words to make them more suggestible to the person he’s speaking to. For example, while he cannot make a person outright tell the truth, or force them to do something, he can simply suggest to them that they want to do exactly as he says; and generally, due to the nature of his ability, they will.
Limitations:
Using his ability successfully requires a strong deal of concentration, and a total focus on the subject he’s speaking to. While he can extend his ability to address a larger group then one individual, his power’s strength is significantly weakened; generally only simple instruction works on mass grouped subjects.
The stronger his concentration and focus on the subject, the stronger it’s effects. Casual, offhand remarks spoken with his ability may have some influence, but far less then if he was in a full state of using his power.
While more casual remarks have little after effects on himself, the full state of subject manipulation (intense concentration, total focus on subject) will generally trigger headaches or migraines shortly after, and are emotionally draining. The worst effects are triggered when addressing a large group of people with the full concentration and focus required for optimum effect; the effects of which are an intense migraine and violent nosebleed, which result in him collapsing. This is the source for his blood phobia, since he mentally associates blood with that state.
GENERAL APPEARANCE:
6”3//198LBS//BLUE EYES//BLONDE HAIR
Pale skinned from his Norwegian heritage, Guylian also attributes his wavy blonde hair and blue eyes to this bloodline. His hair is generally full and despite his attempts to rein it in quite fluffy and messy, especially in the rain where it sticks in odd angles something awful. His features are quite sharp, with a slightly pointed nose and pointed chin, and despite his age his eyes seem to tell of more life experience then his physical appearance would suggest. His chest is marked with two jagged “star” shaped scars, left from the bullets that brought him to the academy. He’s rather self conscious of them.
MUST HAVE APPAREL:
Generally wears casual clothing as opposed to any formal “teaching” attire. Plain dress shirts paired with complimentary vests and trousers are his staple with brown Oxford shoes, a long brown overcoat teamed with scarves and jumpers for colder weather. He hates dressing formally, and feels very uncomfortable in any form of suit.
PERSONALITY:
Stern, serious with a slightly sarcastic personality, Guylian is an intelligent recluse who is generally described as old beyond his years. What you see is what you get with him, and he sees no need in relying on false pretence or lies in regards to discussing his personal life. Everything Guylian does is restrained, well planned, and methodical. He is a man of habit and a firm believer in restraint, law and order, and this goes for near enough every aspect of his life. His privileged upbringing has been a major factor on his personality, his gentlemanly manners and his calm, method manner of thinking installed by his parents from a very young age. His privileged life has led him to struggle to understand the needs and emotions of others, and instead of attempting to take the time to do so chooses to withdraw within himself rather then deal with the chaotic lives of others. Still considering himself human rather then anything else, he tries to keep himself emotionally uninvolved with the rest of the school, due to his desire to not want to admit that he belongs there.
He relies a lot on the stability of rules, instructions and order, and often refers to these when confronted with a situation in which his ability could become a factor. He weighs up the right and wrong and the severity of any given situation to determine if the use of his power is necessary. He feels his power isn’t morally decent, and when asked specifically about it, it’s the only thing he’ll try and avoid directly addressing. He keeps to himself, finding comfort in quiet solitude, choosing to avoid social occasions in favour of time alone. He throws himself into his workload and often uses it as an excuse to not be involved with anything beyond it. He doesn’t suffer fools easily, generally making it obvious that he thinks most are below him in terms of intelligence. Interactions with others are kept simple and straight to the point, so to attempt to avoid any further emotional attachment. Although not deemed by him to be completely unnecessary, it’s simply a safer manner in which to live. He however finds that when confronted with what he feels is a potential intellectual equal, he cannot seem to help but take delight in some from of debate, generally used to stroke his own ego. He never uses his ability in such heated discussions, finding instead greater satisfaction in “winning” without the use of it. While he does find great enjoyment in this, he doesn’t go out purposefully to look for arguments nor go out of his way to start one; if someone begins it, he’s all too happy to finish it.
Intimately close relationships with others are few and far between, with his sense of self importance and sarcastic attitude generally driving people away; something he blames them for rather then himself. However, despite this, Guylian is naturally overprotective and defensive of others, a trait learnt in his childhood and established firmly from his police training. He will put himself in harm’s way in order to protect others, even if the result will ultimately end badly for him; this is regardless to his own personal feelings towards who is in danger, simply on the grounds that it’s the “right thing to do”.At his core, despite his stern and strict method of conduct, Guylian does express a level of care and affection to those he trusts and those under his protection or care, even if it isn’t outwardly apparent first off. With his high moral compass and straightforward nature, he is an ideal advice giver, although often won’t express his opinions unless directly asked, or unless he deems the situation severe enough for him to get involved with. While the school wasn’t something he originally wanted to be a part of, he quickly came to respect what they stood for, and values the students highly.
EXTRA QUIRK:
He has a phobia of blood, feels sick at the sight of it, and on occasion faints at the sight of it.

CHILDHOOD:
Guylian’s parents in their younger days lived a bohemian lifestyle, so when Nina gave birth to their first born she surmised it would be fitting to call him “Guylian” adapting the name of a chocolate box brand she craved while pregnant, thinking at the time that it would a perfectly unique and creative idea; Much to Guylian’s future embarrassment.Growing up he lived in a small town house on the outskirts of New York, and had a pleasant and loving upbringing. He was sheltered from the world’s problems and brought up in a privileged environment, since his parents were socially and financially in the higher brackets. He was taught from a young age the importance of social connotations, rules and limitations, and rather then rebel against his Father’s lessons in manners the young Guylian embraced it.
ADOLESCENCE:
Once he entered education however, life got significantly harder.
Despite having frequent insulting comments thrown in his direction throughout his school days in regards to his name, Guylian didn’t have the heart to ask to change it, and instead learnt to harden his feelings and bare the brunt of the insults, forming the sarcastic and almost cynical personality he still carries.
At 15 he was valiantly fighting his case to his principal and deputy teacher on a recent exam he’d failed, growing more frustrated as they were adamant they weren’t going to change his result; suddenly his voice shifted, during which he suggested to them otherwise, and they agreed to change his score without question. While he thought his odd, he shrugged it off.
In the coming weeks his ability grew more prominent, the velveteen control lacing his voice whenever he was frustrated or feeling intense emotion, resulting in him manipulating others without directly meaning to.
His parents began to worry about him, as he became more reclusive in an effort to avoid accidentally effecting others with his ability; they were thankful when representatives of a specialist Academy arrived, promising Guylian help with the recent manifestation of his power.
He denied at first actually having any ability, not wanting to acknowledge that he was anything more then human, but went to the Academy without too much of a fuss.
As he moved through the Academy’s education he remained reclusive, taking a great interest in History and English, specifically policing history; he spent the majority of his time reading and watching programs on the subject. He quickly decided upon his future career being destined to be within the police force.
Although still refusing to fully face the truth of what he was when questioned directly, he took training classes to control his power, able to lace his voice as and when he wanted by 18.
ADULTHOOD:
Guylian left the Academy as soon as he could, returning home at 18.
After attending college and obtaining a degree in English, Guylian joined the police at 21, having passed with flying colours every police exam he was placed into and excelling in firearms training; he continued to excel very quickly through the ranks to reach Detective Inspector at the age of 24, due to his exceptional skill and high arrest and conviction record.
Being the youngest of this rank in the history of his police branch, there were often suspicious rumours that he’d only reached this level due to his parents’ influence, which plagued him throughout his police career.
The truth was however not any parental influence but more the secret he’d harboured and selected to ignore acknowledging; he’d began choosing to use his power in interrogations, convincing himself that it wasn’t anything unusual and that it was for the greater good.
His life however changed drastically at the age of 28 during a call out to a hostage situation at a local government agency, and fearing for the lives of those inside and his fellow officers, Guylian ignored protocol and entered the establishment, intending to use his ability to settle the situation.
Witnessed by a number of other officers, he easily manipulated the assailant into giving up peacefully.
This move backfired when a previously unknown second man re-entered the room and instead shot him twice, in the chest and in the stomach, before he could even begin to speak to him.
Waking up days later in hospital, he was informed that one bullet had punctured his lung, the other just missing any internal organs or arteries, but the life saving surgery had left him physically scarred.
His performance in the field however had become a talking point in the police branch and on local news, with others beginning to comment on his unusually high conviction record.
While Guylian had fully intended to return to work after his time in hospital, but following the talk and the rumours of an internal investigation into his interrogation methods, the Inspector felt he’d come to an Ultimatum.
Remain and have his work scrutinised, with the high chance many of his convictions could be overturned on the grounds of his “suggestive and controlling interrogation methods” or bow out while he still could.
Choosing once again the option he felt was for the greater good, Guylian selected to leave the career he loved, instead applying to work as an English teacher where he’d felt at least he didn’t have to hide anything about himself; Bellefonte Academy.

The gunshot that rang out, sending a flurry of screeching birds into the desolate sky, sounded in such close proximity to the Undertaker for a fleeting second he thought HE had been one shot at; this was followed shortly by a horrific crash. He immediately slowed his full pelt run to an agonising stumble, his free hand now clutching at the top of his deep grey overcoat as he panted through gritted teeth; the air escaping between the uneven gaps sounded like a faint hiss, slowing to a complete stop as he hunched his body over, eyes clenched shut. His heart was thundering violently, so violently it was almost a wonder how it didn't leap from his very chest... His heartbeat was normally so irregular, often so relatively faint that he barely noticed it, and the feeling of it practically trying to rip itself from his ribcage was both unfamiliar and bizarrely welcoming... It felt almost normal.
This moment of respite was however short lived, as a furious hiss from the uneven rooftop above sank the man's heart to the pit of his stomach; and without a second thought or glance upwards towards the animal he broke once again into a run.
The undertaker at first hadn't been too concerned for his companions, despite the gunshot, since the being they pursued didn't wield a gun... and the shot combined with the crash from one of the entwining alleyways nearby had led to the quick assumption by Eric that the pistol that had been fired, a weapon he very easily recognised, had hit it's target; presumably, their prey... An assumption disputed by the cat's shrill, frantic cry at Eric's fleeting pause. The child... It had to be the child. He turned heel sharply to bring himself to a skidding stop, sliding into the more open area of a ramshackle crossroads; the weight of the shovel on one shoulder meant he had to lean to the opposite side and practically crouch to the floor as he did so, to avoid loosing his balance and ending up on the floor.
