Rebekka is a fighter. Before she even had her formidable ability, she fought. Flight wasn’t an option. There was fight, and only fight. She wouldn’t back down. She wouldn’t be cowed. Once she stuck to something, she fought for it tooth and nail. But only if she found that something worthy of her time.
With rust tinted view
The world is harsh. The world is cruel. Even with it’s minor moments of beauty, Rebekka doesn’t let her guard down. Anything apparently clear cut and obvious, she viewed with suspicion and doubt. Every stainless steel truth became covered in rust. She learned to trust no one and no thing but herself.
Angry over something
Rebekka is not some bubbly fool. Her laughter is often bitter and harsh. Her smiles wicked and sardonic. Compliments are laced with mockery. Sympathy tainted with judgement. Getting a real positive emotion out of her is a challenge most have failed. The emotions she does show are sharp. She doesn’t care if she leaves you bleeding.
And morals askew
Rarely is anything definitively black and white. Rebekka sees the consequences of her actions in varying tones of grey. Some are darker than others, and some are lighter. Some things she’s willing to live with, and others she’d scowl at in disgust. The decision is ultimately up to what she feels will benefit her. And what consequences she can bear.SECRET(S): None.FATHER: Edward KnightMOTHER: Valerie KnightSIBLINGS: Jimmy and Nora KnightWORTHY MENTIONS: Spanky, her pet rottweilerCHILDHOOD:Life is complex. Rebekka learned that early. Her father was a man of many faces. Edward was the one she knew. The one who would come home later at night. The man who would have to disappear on long business trips for pieces at a time. Even young, she knew something was wrong. It might’ve been the litter of bottles. The countless lies her mother repeated. There was a speck of hope in them, but they were lies all the same. They both knew it. Rebekka was the only one to accept them.
She grew cold towards Edward. The man who constantly called himself her father. The one who vehemently denied all suspicions. A hardworking, honest man. That’s what he called himself. It was good enough for Valerie. It wasn’t for Rebekka. Which was why she wasn’t surprised when the truth reared it’s ugly head. Crashing through the precarious glass house her parents had tried to build with their lies. Edward fled, his deception failed. Rebekka found content with his absence, while her mother found despair.ADOLESCENCE:Despair descended into depression. Rebekka’s house was deemed no longer adequate for her upbringing. She was given to her grandparents, raised under their care. Sightings of her mother became less frequent. Not that Rebekka minded. Valerie had turned into a shell. A husk of an already pathetic soul that Rebekka found herself cringing from in disgust. She didn’t want anything to do with the woman any longer. The visits became scarce enough until they stopped altogether. Rebekka continued life as if nothing had changed.
Until her younger siblings were born. Like Rebekka they were taken. Twins. The father’s identity was a mystery. The result of her mother’s slow descent into the darkness. Rebekka took ownership of the two. Hefted up a responsibility she felt was hers. They were hers to protect and guide so neither ended up like Valerie or Edward. It was one of the few acts of genuine kindness Rebekka ever committed. One of the few times she managed to pull light from her corrupted self. She’d seen too much to go back now. But these two she could prevent from turning into someone like her.
She did her duty. For a time. Fate had other ideas. At the age of 16, Rebekka was suddenly engulfed in flame. It is the only memory of fear she can recall. Men came a week later, demanding she leave. Rebekka did what came natural. She fought. Eventually she was subdued, forced to go to a school she didn’t want to. But she couldn’t deny her power’s existence. She had to learn.ADULTHOOD:Hours turned into days. Days turned into months. Months turned into years. Rebekka’s rage cooled over the passage of time. She began to use the resources she was given. She kept to herself. Created a safe barrier only few could get past. Sarcasm was a weapon to keep others at bay. She was better off alone, especially with a volatile power like hers. At the same time, her power helped her decide her job. She would work with the school. Be part of the security keeping the kids in line and most importantly safe. Through some sense, she saw her younger siblings in every face. The least she could do is make sure they didn’t go up in flames.
But fate had on final trick up its sleeve. Death struck fast and silent. Her grandfather was dead. His will had been altered by his own choice. Suddenly Rebekka found herself on the receiving end of her grandfather’s legacy. Immediately she moved her family members to Kalispell. Where she could watch them. Where she could protect them. Her mother was not part of that group. As far as Rebekka was concerned, she’d been dead for years. Her true concern lay with supporting her younger siblings. Nothing else mattered.
SAMPLE:”Shoo.” She commanded. She waved away the crowd that had gathered. Like skittish animals they fled. There was some satisfaction to glean from that. her attention turned back to the miscreant in her grasp. A boy who really should have known better. His so-called opponent lay half awake on the ground. Rebekka dropped the boy. Dumped him next to his victim.
“I don’t need to tell you what will happen if I catch you doing this again.” Her voice was grim and low. The color drained from his face. A smirk wormed its way onto her face, filled with sadistic amusement. She jerked her head in a direction. “Good. Now take that kid to the nurse.” She ordered after. “I’m checking in thirty minutes. And if he isn’t there…” The threat lingered in the air. Floated in the space between them. Much like the lick of flame that escaped her mouth. Wordlessly he got up and dragged the other with him. Rebekka gave a bark of laughter. It wasn’t a pretty sound. It was harsh and taunting. Her work there was done, so she turned and left the way she came.
